Five Things We Have Learned From Barnet’s Bank Holiday Double Header
Barnet went into the Bank Holiday top of the National League table and, despite having a mixed weekend, they came out of it in second place, just one point behind leaders Solihull Moors. A 1-0 loss away at Dagenham and Redbridge courtesy of a late Nicke Kabamba own goal meant that the Bees have failed to beat the Daggers in their last six attempts, a run stretching back to October 2020. But, the…

3 talking points as Celtic revival continues with second half blitz of Kilmarnock
It was a pretty even opening but when the visitors did try to be more expansive it left them vulnerable at the other end.Greg Kiltie's attempted through-ball to Alan Power was cut out and it left the latter out of position. Celtic broke quickly and Edouard saw a snapshot deflected just wide of the near post.Killie were very much in it though, with Stuart Findlay making a surging run out from the back that was only halted by Jullien on the edge of the Celtic box.It had been a pretty insipid first half for the hosts and, perhaps after a volley from their manager, they started the second period on the front foot.Almost immediately Jeremie Frimpong burst forward and teed-up Elyounoussi but the winger's curled effort was straight at Rogers. The right-back himself called the Killie goalkeeper into action moments later, before Edouard's effort was also saved after he connected with a Taylor cross to the back post.It was an early blitz from Celtic and Shane Duffy should have done better than heading straight at Rogers when he got on the end of a Turnbull free-kick.The hosts continued to turn the screw and eventually the pressure told, albeit in slightly fortunate fashion.Elyounoussi hit a low effort from the edge of the box that appeared to be headed straight for Rogers but, in an attempt to block, Aaron McGowan deflected it past his own goalkeeper.Alex Dyer reacted by throwing on Youssouf Mulumbu and Chris Burke, while Ryan Christie and Patryk Klimala entered the fray for Celtic.None had the chance to change the game though as Celtic killed it just moments after the changes.Turnbull sent in another teasing corner and Duffy was left with too much space to rise and power his header into the corner.Callum McGregor's missed header at the front post gave Killie the chance to reduce the arrears but Nicke Kabamba could only hit it at Hazard from close range.Christie looked to be in for a third but was denied by a fantastic saving challenge by Stuart Findlay, while fellow substitute Mikey Johnston fired over on his return to action.Celtic couldn't add the third goal that their second half play deserved but with back-to-back wins and a first league clean sheet since October Lennon will hope a corner has been turned.Edouard off itOf the many questions being posed by Celtic fans this season perhaps the most prominent is "what's eating Eddie?".The French striker is arguably the best player in the country on his day but this term he's struggled to get into any sort of rhythm. There are mitigating factors, not least a bout of coronavirus, but once again Edouard didn't look at the races and it was no surprise when he was taken off for Patryk Klimala with just over 20 minutes to play. The Polish strikes does a great job of helping his teammates find space.Power surgeHe's looked off the pace at times this season but Alan Power was back to his best at Celtic Park. The Irishman was everywhere, snapping into tackles and breaking beyond the Celtic midfield when Killie made their forays forward. He was unlucky to concede a free-kick to Edouard on the edge of the box for what looked a clean tackle. His efforts were ultimately in vain as Celtic raised the tempo but if Power can maintain this form it'll be a huge boost for Killie going forward.Duffy finding his feetWhisper it, but Shane Duffy looks to finally be finding his feet in a Celtic jersey. The Irishman was brought to add height and power to the centre of a defence which had struggled against physical strikers. The first dropped points of the season came at Rugby Park as Nicke Kabamba bulled Jullien but the Killie striker barely had a sniff on Sunday.Duffy won everything in the air and didn't look troubled on the deck, capping off his performance with the crucial second goal.Let's just not mention that 40-yard effort in the first half.

Rangers 2-0 Kilmarnock: Kemar Roofe & Ryan Kent on target for hosts
Tumblr media
Kemar Roofe (a ways left) got the precious touch to give Rangers the lead
Kemar Roofe scored his first Rangers purpose as they returned to worthwhile ways in opposition to Kilmarnock and moved three aspects clear at the Premiership summit.
Roofe netted moments after heading an effort in opposition to the post.
Ryan Kent, the subject of a failed £10m Leeds United roar this week, had earlier tested Danny Rogers with a curling strike.
Nonetheless he did salvage the accumulate with a serene blueprint as the Ibrox aspect registered a fifth neat sheet out of five.
Morelos made omission ‘easy’ – Gerrard
Response & because it came about
How did the gamers price?
No longer like Rangers’ 0-0 blueprint with Livingston closing week, the Ibrox aspect had been ready to turn their dominance into targets but they had been made to wait.
Brandon Barker and Kent drew saves from Rogers and Kent modified into also foiled by an extraordinarily valuable intervention by Aaron McGowan at the tip of a breakaway.
With Alfredo Morelos omitted of Rangers’ squad, Roofe and Cedric Itten got their first starts and Roofe headed a Borna Barisic unsuitable off Rogers’ left-hand post early in the 2nd half of.
Nonetheless the identical combination bore fruit moments later when left-serve Barisic’s low offer modified into aspect-footed in by the veteran Anderlecht attacker.
James Tavernier situation up Kent to space a 2nd to Rogers’ left after the Rangers captain had viewed his preliminary shot blocked.
Kilmarnock, silent without a preserve this season, equipped limited in assault and didn’t give keeper Jon McLaughlin unparalleled to attain.
Man of the match – Ryan Kent
Kent modified into provocative throughout and if Leeds are to resume their interest, Rangers would be despise to lose their most in-form participant
What did we be taught?
When each and every Roofe and Itten had been named in the starting line-up, it regarded admire Gerrard modified into fielding a front two but Itten before all the pieces performed wide on the categorical with Roofe via the center.
Neither if truth be told affected the game till Itten moved interior in the 2nd half of and the opening purpose shortly followed.
Barker modified into busy in a uncommon Rangers birth and the dwelling aspect had been bigger than absorbing to shoot from prolonged range when Kilmarnock had closed down situation around the distance.
Killie did that successfully for prolonged spells but going ahead they had been unable to give unparalleled service to both Eamonn Brophy or his replacement Nicke Kabamba.
What did they advise?
Rangers supervisor Steven Gerrard: “I’m very happy with the neat sheet and the gamers deserve hundreds of credit score for the account.
“We’re doing the dirty stuff in the serve of the ball if truth be told successfully. The gamers salvage utilized themselves ever so successfully and so they’re getting their rewards for it.”
Kilmarnock supervisor Alex Dyer: “We now salvage got advance up in opposition to a aspect who are taking half in successfully for the time being and are prime of the league.
“Clearly we would admire more aspects on the board. Nonetheless the performances had been respectable and now we salvage got to turn them into results.”
What’s next?
Rangers are away to Hamilton Academical next Saturday evening and Kilmarnock host Dundee United earlier that day.

Celtic 3-1 Kilmarnock: Neil Lennon's side 12 clear at Premiership summit

Celtic 3-1 Kilmarnock: Neil Lennon's side 12 clear at Premiership summit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leigh Griffiths scores Celtic third goal – his fifth in eight games
Celtic recovered from losing an early Kilmarnock goal to win handsomely and march 12 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
With Rangers drawing at St Johnstone, Neil Lennon’s men took advantage as they bid to win a ninth title in a row.
Eamonn Brophy’s penalty had initially rocked Celtic but Kristoffer Ajer and Odsonne Edouard had the hosts ahead.
Leigh Griffiths added a third shortly after Kilmarnock were reduced to 10 men following Alan Power’s second yellow.
The champions have now won 15 of their last 16 home games, with 32 goals scored since the winter break.
For Kilmarnock it was a third defeat in a row and leaves them five points off a place in the top six.
Increased lead ‘icing on cake’ for Celtic
Reaction & how it happened
Are Celtic now unstoppable?
Celtic did what champions do. They had the opportunity to extend their lead in the table and continued their relentless and now seemingly inevitable march to the title.
That happened despite an early setback. Kilmarnock started brightly and forced early corners with Nicke Kabamba going close but his shot was blocked. However, their persistence paid off.
Jozo Simunovic dived in rashly but didn’t win the ball cleanly. His attempts to recover resulted in Brophy being impeded inside the area and the Scotland forward tucked away the spot-kick impressively.
As that goal went in, St Johnstone scored against Rangers in Perth to ease the pain for Celtic fans – and soon things got even better.
Alex Dyer’s side dropped very deep and ultimately could not hold out. They had no out ball and Celtic forced the issue.
Griffiths was denied after superb build up by Edouard. Simunovic then sent in a deflected effort that was tipped over by Laurentiu Branescu.
Any resistance appeared unlikely to last and was pierced when Christopher Jullien scrambled the ball back into danger from a corner and Ajer bundled home.
Kilmarnock’s approach increasingly allowed Celtic defenders to step out as they had little to contend with. It proved key as Simunovic nodded Greg Taylor’s cross back to Edouard, who outmuscled Kirk Broadfoot to net the second.
The second half was a procession towards Kilmarnock’s goal as Celtic searched for the crucial third.
That task became more straightforward when Power received a second yellow after tackling Jeremie Frimpong. It seemed rather harsh as the young Celtic wing-back seemed to have lost control of the ball.
Unsurprisingly, the third goal arrived. An incisive move down the left released Ryan Christie to the bye-line and he pulled the ball across for Griffiths to tap home.
Brilliant play looked to have created a fourth but Griffiths’s strike was ruled offside, before he was then superbly denied by Branescu as time ticked on.
Celtic are flying and with a 12-point lead in the title race it feels like a huge task for Rangers to reel them in from here.
Man of the match – Odsonne Edouard
The young French striker is a class act and seems to thrive alongside Griffiths. Celtic fans will be desperate to retain him beyond the summer as he has everything.
His goal return is strong but it’s Edouard’s ability to be calm, to bring others into play that’s equally impressive. He is strong, always in full control of the ball, and more often than not picks the right option. He is an absolute nightmare for any defender and when you consider his youth, he has room to get better.
He netted again today and produced another impressive display that went a long way to delivering another league win.

‘It’s the hardest thing in football’ – Lennon on Celtic’s winning run
Celtic manager Neil Lennon:“I thought Eamonn [Brophy] was offside, but our reaction to that was fantastic. It was a real magnificent performance. I thought we were outstanding.
“To be fair to Alex Dyer, he went with two strikers. But we dealt with that very well. I said to the players ‘don’t think it’s easy what you’re doing’. It’s important we keep the momentum going.”
Kilmarnock manager Alex Dyer:“We were doing alright – I thought we were in control. Then they started to play a bit, put us under pressure. We were sloppy for the goals, and scored maybe too early.
“The gameplan was to win the game, or at least get a point, but we came up against a side in really good form. I’m still happy with my boys – they worked hard and gave it all they’ve got after a hard week.”

Neil Lennon sticks up for Leigh Griffiths after abuse from fans
Tumblr media
Neil Lennon will back Leigh Griffiths “to the hilt” if there are any repercussions after the Celtic striker appeared to throw tape at Kilmarnock fans following his substitution in the 3-1 win at Rugby Park.
The Scotland international made way for Mikey Johnston 10 minutes from time after earlier scoring the Hoops’ second goal, in between counters by Odsonne Edouard and Christopher Jullien, with Killie striker Nicke Kabamba netting for the home side.
Cameras appeared to capture Griffiths tossing away tape into the main stand and a fracas ensued with words exchanged between some home fans and the Hoops bench, with stewards and police moving into the crowd.
However, Lennon, who described the win as an “outstanding performance”, played the incident down.
He said: “He was getting a lot of unsavoury abuse, uncalled for. He was backed up by myself and his team-mates on the bench.
“I thought his behaviour tonight was exemplary and at times we take uncalled for abuse. He didn’t do anything wrong. People can blow it up, it was nothing.
“He threw a bit of tape on the ground. I don’t know how you can say he threw it at somebody or towards somebody.
“People take off tape and throw it away. There is nothing in it at all. The kid had played well, he hadn’t got himself into any bother on the pitch, he sits down and gets abuse from supporters.
“In this day and age we have to accept this and behave in a sanitised way and he did. You are always looking for a story that is just not there. I will back him and defend him to the hilt.
“He always seems to get controversy around him but I will back him to the hilt on this one, his behaviour was top class as was his performance. That’s two goals in two games and he is getting better and better.”
There was some concern when defender right-back Jeremie Frimpong was taken from the field a couple of minutes from the end on a stretcher after a challenge by Alan Power.
Lennon said: “We don’t think it is a fracture. He is up walking about on it so that’s good news and we will just have to see the severity of the bruising on it, that’s all.”
Killie have now lost their last six Ladbrokes Premiership matches.
Boss Alex Dyer said: “I thought we played well against a good side but we made some mistakes.
“Celtic are top of the league and it was difficult for us, but we played some good football.
“However, you get punished when you make individual mistakes against a team like Celtic. The boys are working hard but it’s always a bonus when you beat teams like that.”

FALL GUY Christopher Jullien rose to the occasion last night as Celtic eased into the second round of the Champions League qualifiers with a 6-0 romp over KR Reykjavik at Parkhead.
The towering French defender thundered in a spectacular header from an exquisite Ryan Christie left-wing corner-kick to claim the third goal on the half-hour mark as the Hoops routed the Icelanders.
Nine days earlier, Jullien had come in for some ferocious criticism after a nervy display in the 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park as the champions shed two points in their bid for the historic 10 in a row.
The centre-back, who had been ragdolled by bustling Nicke Kabamba for most of an uncomfortable afternoon in Ayrshire, compounded the performance by gifting Killie the equaliser via the penalty spot which was tucked beyond new Bhoy Vaslis Barkas by Chris Burke.
After the showing, Neil Lennon admitted the player can be a slow burner in terms of gearing himself for the months ahead. The gaffer made a valid point that it had been the same last year following his £7million arrival from Toulouse when he failed to hit the ground running in the early days.
Before his stunning header, Jullien had helped set the Celts on their way with an excellent long-range diagonal pass that allowed Mohamed Elyounoussi to score the first of his two goals in six minutes to settle any pre-match nerves.
Lennon, speaking to the Daily Record, said: “I thought Chris was excellent. You saw what he is good at.
“Not only did he set up the first goal, he goes and attacks to score a great goal from a corner.
“That is what he gives to the team and, when he is doing that, I know he is sort of getting there now in terms of full fitness.
“I thought, defensively, he looked a lot more like himself, which I felt he would do. The more he plays, the better he gets. He can be delighted.”
THE JOY OF SIX

The Pittodrie side trailed with two minutes of the 90 to play, and again as the game entered its 119th minute. But Sam Cosgrove’s penalty and a Connor Johnston own goal clinched victory. It looked as if Mohamed El Makrini’s overhead kick, then Nicke Kabamba’s goal, would win the tie for Kilmarnock, but Aberdeen somehow snatched it.
