My Time for a Getaway in Indiana Dunes National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking through the national park beach house structure and looking to the north-northeast to the distant water of Lake Michigan. Here I used the concrete walkway as a leading line into the image. I also decided to use the framing of the beach house structure and keep that more or less in silhouette to draw the viewer into the image with that sliver of blue waters at the end of the walkway.

A View Back to Chicago Before Heading Out to Walk the Dune Succession Trail (Indiana Dunes National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: With this image, I turned around to the start point of the Dune Succession Trail. My thinking in composing this image was to have the trail as leading line and then the nearby grass covered dune ridges as a frame to lead the eyes into the image with the shores of Lake Michigan and then the much distant skyline of Chicago.

My Navigations in New River Gorge National Park & Preserve by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Stone Cliff Trail and taking in views of a forested setting seemingly all around and above. What I loved about this view was the sunlight caught in the upper portions of the trees and leaves while the ground area was still caught in shadows.

I used the idea of the “impact of less” to focus on this one area and let the forest seemingly spill over the ends of the image edge. That might then allow for a feeling of having the woods all around, surrounding the viewer.

Indiana Dunes National Park...Another Ultimate Stress Escape! by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: At the starting point for the Dune Succession Trail in Indiana Dunes National Park with a view looking to the west-northwest to the blue waters of Lake Michigan. I had a few thoughts in mind as I composed this image. One was to use a layered approach with the nearby grass covered sand dune so that the waves coming in with the waters of Lake Michigan were that step beyond into the image. The look across would complement the waves coming in and a more distant horizon. The last thing was given the overcast skies, I knew that I would want to work with control points in DxO PhotoLab 4 and then made adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image. Definitely something not blah with the overcast skies!
