Chapter two

(Male verson of my Dweller navi species.)
To say that when he woke up it was a breath of fresh air would be like saying that feeling your frozen solid lungs thaw was peaceful.
It wasn't.
The shit hurts.
Having hearing the cryo beds radio remind him over and over to hold his breath and breathe when prompted was like a wailing siren in his awaking heart. It made his head and skull pound with a fury of being woken up from its frozen dead state.
His body trembled in agony but also with excitement, his eyes still thawing as he forced his eyelids open to see the foggy glass of his chamber.
He couldn't wait to see her, his fiancé on a real plant thriving planet.
When he was finally allowed out of his chamber he moved across to the one in front of his shaky and clumsy legs not used to being thawed out and he waited for his Paz to finish thawing out.
When her cyro opened he grinned down at her, taking in her lovely face and wide surprised eyes.
"Morning sunshine." He greeted and watched as she smiled back at him.
"Morning Handsome." She lovingly said back to him.
They were all brought into a room for debriefing and to have further instructions given to them all about which ships would be deported to land on the planet Pandora and what order. They were debriefed on some of the wildlife and how to wear their specialized eco packs.
"We can not breathe the air?" Paz whispered and Quaritch tried not to let her disappointment reach his own as he looked at her softly.
"Still it had clean water and forests, I bet after we're all settled we can take a walk through some terrain." He whispered and there it was, that sparkle in her eyes that attracted him like a moth to a flame. A smile formed on her face as she squeezed his hand lovingly.
A walk would be nice.
"Remember all forms of life on this planet are nothing more than animals." The man he would be working for went over details, and then there was a scoff and a red headed woman standing up walking over to do her part of the debriefing.
"Mr.Selfridge, while a genius in RDA corporate grounds, is not very intelligent with the life forms and natives of Pandora." She spoke.
"I am Dr. Augustine Lead Exobiologist on Pandora and while most inhabitants are animals on this planet, it does have a species of intellect. The Navi, They are the natives living all over on Pandora and they are just as intelligent as you and I. While you're on base, you are to leave them be and they in turn will leave you be as a peaceful negation has been made with them. '' Dr.Augustine continued on the lecture going over the clan that would be near the base and how there would be a school for the native species children to be taught english by her in hopes to have easier translation between humans and the Navi.
After the debriefing Paz pulled him around the screens that had many pictures and video streams of pandora and this species they would be living beside. His own eyes move across the screens taking in multiple kinds of landscapes from floating mountains, to mountain ranges, vast oceans to colorful desserts and vast gorgeous forests. Some even have Navi clans in the landscape descriptions, others simply saying not available information.
"There's so much life here." Paz said put in astonishment and Quaritch chuckled as he took in the screens.
"That there is sunshine." His eye moved to a screen that showed pandora minerals and resources, no doubt resources that the RDA wanted to extract, And he pushed down that old familiar sense of dread in his gut. The feelings he got when a country found untapped oil somewhere on earth and he was shipped out in suits and masks with guns tied to his back. The chest weighting the feeling of threats of war.
"That there is."
There were footsteps that made him turn his head seeing the red headed doctor come to his and his fiancé's side.
"So your the colonel there putting in charge of the security and weapons on the base." She started not asking as she looked at him and then his fiancé.
"That would be me." He answered her and moved Paz in front of him. "This is My fiancé Paz Socorro."
"Ah the head engineer they choose as well." Dr. Augustine stated before taking his soon to be wife's hand.
"Always a pleasure seeing another woman taking something ahead of something."
Paz smiled and shook the doctor's hand back with the same merith.
"Yes, though if anything i'm more in charge of Quaritch temper." She teased, causing the doctor to chuckle.
"I came over here to see what your thoughts are on the school I am pushing to open, seeing you have military experiences." Dr. Augustine looked at him.
Quaritch licked his lips as he thought of such a thing, the alien species was bizarre to him, and learning about their primitive ways was a shock towards him, and gave The RDA an advantage if peace negotiations needed to be backed up with force. Though he didn't want to necessarily deal with all of that.
"I think it's a good start." He answered looking at the woman with a nod.
"I think it would avoid later issues down the road and hell probably make transitions to humans eventually moving in on the planet easier if The Na'vi and Us can form peaceful treaties and trades….I personally would like to get to know them as well, since we're all gonna be neighbor's and all that." He answered and the doctor's lips tugged to a smile.
"You seemed to have a reasonable head colonel." Dr.Augustine stated before she moved on to talk to another group.
Paz lightly hit his chest making him look down at her, her eyes filled with a spark in them and a smirk on her face.
"Who are you and what have you done with my man?" She asked and Quaritch bit back a laugh pushing her away from him.
"No seriously, since when did my Quaritch think so optimistic?"
"Enough sunshine." He said lightly to her, taking her hips in his hands as he looked down at her.
"New planet, new chances, new outcomes, I like to think they'd be good ones." He stated as he placed his forehead to hers looking into her eyes.
"Is that so wrong? To think of a future love?" He asked, and watched as Paz stared at him adoringly before moving her head where her lips were onto his.
"No." She breathed as if she took a fresh breath of air, tension leaving her body as she melted into him.
"Not at all."
The settlement was shit at first, however construction went by fast and soon the base was a proper one. Everyone was attending their decimated jobs and He found his wasn't all that different from back home, but it came with more upsides than downsides.
Such as, he could feel real sunlight on his skin when he did patrols around the mining operations and equipment.
Paz could come join him on these patrols, so he got to see his fiancé face light up everytime they got to explore some of the vast forest, not too far as it would invade the peace negotiations with the local Navi clans but enough to satisfy their needs to see real plants.
The pay itself was a hell of an upside and the housing, fuck the housing was one as well. They had a nice unit, two bedrooms, a spacious living area and even a nice kitchen. Their unit was blessed with a patio that was of course glassed in so filtered oxygen was being cycled through but it was nice waking up and eating breakfast with Paz on that patio watching the pandora sun rise over floating mountains with their waterfalls.
Both of them are always wondering how the floating mountains never ran out of water.
Paz suspected it had to due to condensation from the clouds, he simply stated magic and left it at that as it had gotten a great laugh from her.
He was happier, Paz was happier, hell their entire relationship felt like it was once they first started dating. Perfection. The smiles he got from her in the morning, the romance that seemed to spark back up between them with having small dates. The sex. The intimacy. They were finally happier and it didnt no longer feel like he was suffocating when Paz tried to slyly hint about the second bedroom being more than just a guest room.
Perhaps it was seeing the navi children running through the treelines through the crop fields over to Dr. Augustine's school hearing their lively laughter and seeing their curiosity not just for the not blue alien species that the humans were but just being filled with curiosity in general. Maybe it was seeing kids even if it was from a different species being so full of life that had him leaning more towards Paz hushed hints of having a little brat on their own.
He was heading back done with his shift for the day, but always on call if something did happen, walking past the school he watched as Grace, the doctor moved around in what her team called avatars. Shortly after she had opened up the school she was announcing a new program being opened up on the base. Her team had efficiently called it The Avatar Program where they made bioengineered hybrid bodies of human and Navi DNA to make these oversized lifeless puppets until the controller got into some fancy shmancy machine that connected their consequences into the oversize puppet.
It was fascinating, to say the least, and Quaritch chuckled seeing how the navi children that Grace was teaching were now her teachers trying to show her how to walk and climb and do what they themselves could do with ease. Innocent laughter rolled over the training fields as he walked past heading towards the main base doors. He laughed when he saw the doctor bust her ass and shook his head as he pressed through the main doors heading to the locker showers to wash up and change before heading home.
He opened his locker grabbing disinfected soap and a washcloth as well as a fresh towel before rummaging through his locker for his fresh clothes. Movement by his side made him glance over and nod in acknowledgement.
"Corporal." Quaritch greeted as he saw Lyle Wainfleet head to his own locker a few down from his own.
"Colonel." Wainfleet greeted back with a respectful nod of his own. Wainfleet was a good man, and over the months of the settlement being built and everything, Quaritch could even consider the man to be a friend.
But as there was a growing tense silence than comfortable one Quaritch sighed, shutting his locker and leaning on it as he looked at the man.
"Wanna spit it out or just gonna keep silent and I have to find out in tomorrow's reports?." He Questioned knowing the man never was silent unless there was something that would have to be brought to his attention.
"There's equipment missing from the mine operations." Wainfleet answered.
That gut feeling Quaritch knew all too well was starting to rise through him once again.
"How many." He ordered the answer.
"Five drills." Wainfleet answered.
Fucking hell.
He sat on the patio of his unit pouring over report logs and equipment check outs and check ins. His mug of coffee was long and cold as he swiped the holo tablet onto another report log. His eyes slightly burned from staring at the screens for so long but he needed to find those damn drills. He hoped it was due to some jackass not checking in the equipment or a miss equipment log for a day or so.
though the possibility of the Navi fucking with it-
Quaritch shook his head and leaned back in his chair removing his reading glasses. He didn't want to think of such things regardless of how real the possibility could be. He wanted to believe the peaceful negotiations were doing damn dandy and that Grace's school was actually leading in the right direction and that it really was some dumbass miner not logging equipment. He heard the door to the patio slide open and his fiancé walking out in a fluffy robe and two hot cups of joe in her hands as she came to sit down and set one towards him.
"You're a saint." He grumbled taking the hot cup warming his hands. Paz lightly chuckled beside him.
"Any luck?" She asked softly looking at his report logs and holotablet screen now projecting upwards.
He pushed a frustrated sigh through his teeth.
"Not a damn thing." He told her and he felt her hand on his thigh slowly rubbing it.
"You'll find them." She said assuringly and he felt himself relax only a little. His eyes moving to the land around them behind the glass and lowered down to the mining operations area where lights were bright on the equipment.
From his patio. Quaritch could see all the blind spots on the operations area and he let out a few strands of curses as he grabbed his holotable snapping a picture and starting to work on highlighting areas that needed cameras and lights installed on.
He would not blame or suspect the navi on this one, he will however blame the damn operations team. How the hell was he to find missing equipment if there weren't enough damn cameras on the operations area to give him full access to who the hell lost the shit in the first place.
He never did find those five missing drills.

Hi! I've never watched a period drama before, do you have any recs on where I should start?
Oh my goodness,I’m actually suprised you asked me. But I would love to help! (:
Honestly, there are so many films and tv series,I don’t even know where to start, but I will try my best. Well, you can always start with Jane Austen adaptations. They are very good, it has the perfect balance of romance, drama and humor. You can watch Pride and Prejudice (both the 1995 and 2005 version), Emma (2009), Northanger Abbey (2007), Sense and Sensibility (both the 1995 and 2008 version) and Persuasion (the 1995 version is my fav). These are the ones I most enjoy, anyway. They are a good start.
North and South (this one is really good for beginners too haha), The Paradise, Mr.Selfridge, Mercy Street, Call The Midwife,Victoria, The Musketeers and Grantchester are amazing shows that have no explicit images of sex and violence, so if you don’t like that,I recommend these. But if you don’t mind something that, there is: Outlander,The Borgias, The Pillars of The Earth,Vikings,Underground,The White Queen,The Bletchley Circle....
And,before I finish (I’m almost done,I promise) here are some more great movies to watch: Belle (2014),Atonement (2007),The Young Victoria (2009),Jane Eyre (2011),Amadeus (1984),Little Women (1994),Miss Potter (2007),A Royal Affair (2009),The Great Debaters (2007),The Light Between Oceans (2016),Much Ado About Nothing (1993),An Education (2007),Far from the Madding Crowd (2016).
I think I only made you more confused with so many things to watch,I’m sorry! But I really hope you can enjoy some of them and if you do, please come tell me. There is a lot more, but I think this is a good start. I hoped I helped somehow.
