She was frozen, staring through the scope of her rifle. She could see the encampment. She could see the Buzzcocks milling about. Sergio was joking around with Blaze. She could almost make out their laughter from there. Mirja was showing Sam, their newest, how to take apart and rebuild a rifle. Everyone was going about their lives as normal. They looked just the same as the last time she’d seen them.

But she knew what was coming. She could feel it in the pit of stomach. The noise the Deathclaw made was loud in her ears. She heard its feet move across the earth, the snorting noise it made as it approached the camp. She turned her rifle to stare at the creature. She tried to pull the trigger.

Nothing happened. She tried again, tracking the beast.

Again nothing.

She heard the creature’s screech as it charged. She could feel it as it reverberated through her.

Suddenly she was seeing through the eyes of the creature. She could feel it tearing through the other Buzzcocks with each swipe of its long, terrible claws. The copper taste of blood hung in her mouth, and she was hungry. She lowered her [it’s] head and tore out a chunk of flesh. It was Tobias.

Dead eyes stared back up at her. His head had been gone when she’d found him. Now she tore it from his shoulders and crunched it between sharpened teeth. She could feel the skull cracking in her jaw.

She turned abruptly when she heard voices in the distance. She recognized them. She knew them. She even heard her own. Clawed feet moved her in their direction. She went for the three of them. Clawed hands reached forward, lifting Dick off the ground and–

She started awake. She stared into the empty darkness for a moment, unsure of where she was. She pushed herself away from the bed, moving to her feet, standing. She was shaking. She stared at her hands.

They were human. They were hers. Burns and cuts and all.

She could hear someone saying something to her, but the hollow echo in her ears had yet to fade. She looked around in her panic before her eyes landed on the familiar face. It took her a moment to register it.

Scratch.

She stared at him for a long moment. He was still watching her and she stepped forward. Hand still shaking, she gently touched his face, as if making sure he was actually there. Hadn’t she wished once before that he’d been a Buzzcock with her?

That idea no longer held any appeal.

She couldn’t stop the sob that emerged from her chest, but she hid it best she could by burying her face into his chest, wrapping her arms around his waist.

She hated how she was acting. Later she’d scold herself for it. But right then she was just glad he was there and alive.

December is suddenly gone and a new year has started, but just because December is over doesn’t mean that the celebration is stopping. Around this time of year it’s the start of Carnaval Season in the South Caribbean, so the fun continues. There is still some time before the big Carnaval parades but in the meantime, there are many festivities and a big song festival.

For a Jump In I am wearing a sexy and fun outfit. The weather is very hot during the day on the island but it can get just a bit chilly with the cool breeze from the ocean in the night so I am wearing these cute petal shorts that to my surprise fits perfectly, with the new sweater turtle neck from .Ecko., one of the many talented designers in the We Love To Blog Group. I am wearing these with shorts now but they would totally look good with leggings/pants too.
