The Wonderland Murders by Millie Ravensworth
Rating: ❤️❤❤❤❤
(this book got one out of five because I love the cover and the concept was good BUT the book itself was very badly written, spelling errors and the Anne Frank fancy dress costume was just so wrong)

Cozy Craft Mystery Series by Millie Ravensworth
This a general review so I will talk about the series and about the single instalments.
I love cosy mystery and have been reading them since I read the first Lilian Jackson Braun and was involved in mysteries featuring a quant town, lovely pets, and amateur detective/detective.
My taste evolved and now, after years and a huge number of series I read, I’m quite spoiled and I know when I am going to love a series after a few pages.
The Cosy Craft Mysteries were one of those series that are a lot of fun and solid mysteries.
Penny, Izzy and the characters grew on me page after page, and I was fascinated by the descriptions of the fabrics and the tips and tricks of professional sewing.
My sewing skill are very basic, but I always wanted to be like Izzy: creative, with a lot of skill in a manual craft, and a lovely person.
Penny is more logical and business like, I wasn’t convinced at the beginning, but she grew on me.
This a general review so I will talk about the series and about the single instalments.
The Wonderland Murders is a good start for a cosy series: even if it introduces places and characters it’s quite fast paced and there’s always something going and keeping your attention alive.
I liked the solid mstery as it kept me guessing and surprised me with the twists. There’s a lot of culprits as the victim is not very likeable.
I appreciated how the author described the bully and how you couldn’t help feeling for the women.
The Painted Lobster Murders is the second book in the series, a highly entertaining and compelling story since the first pages. We meet Monty the dog, a lovely character I loved.
This is another solid and compelling mystery. There’s a lot going on in Penny and Izzy life and they’re developing business and managing the shop as Nan took the backseat.
A fast paced and solid mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed and kept me guessing.
My only note: I hate love triangle, it’s my cosy mystery pet peeve, and hope it will be solved soon
The Sequinned Cape Murders is the third in the series and I enjoyed it even if it’s not my favorite.. There’s more sewing than mystery but it’s also the one with Izzy under the spotlight and I thoroughly enjoyed this change. There’s romance, there’s another good mystery and the usual suspects.
The Swan Dress Murders is the fourth book in the series: another fast paced and entertaining mystery that kept me guessing. I was hoping that the love triangle was solved and hoped this is the last book with Penny who can’t decide.
I enjoyed the story and the complex plot even if there’s my pet peeve but it’s not a main point in the story. Penny and izzy are a good couple of investigators and they’re investigation are well done.
Another good story and the last published.
Average rating 4/5

The Author:
Millie Ravensworth writes the Cozy Craft Mystery series of books. Her love of murder mysteries and passion for dressmaking made her want to write books full of quirky characters and unbelievable murders. Millie lives in central England where children and pets are something of a distraction from the serious business of writing, although dog walking is always a good time to plot the next book.

Behind the Register, Back in the Stockroom
By Lise McClendon
The bell rings as you walk through the door of the small, brightly lit shop. The window display has drawn you in with its colorful items. Inside on the shelves are delightful objects: books, trinkets, toys. On the walls are quilts, antiques, works of art. Everything is spotless and enticing.
But behind the doors to the stockroom, under the register’s counter, is likely a small mess. Orders in process, supplies in a jumble, maybe even a dead body. If it’s a cozy mystery, that is.
The small town and the small retail shop are staples of cozy mystery fiction and this anthology is testament to their variety and eternal appeal. I always wonder as I go through towns of all sizes and see independent entrepreneurs and their storefronts: what went into making that happen? What were their passions? What sort of person decided to open that storefront? Who the heck designed that sign? Who funded the shop? Are they successful or just hanging on?
We may skip the financial aspects of owning a small business in this anthology but all the other questions remain. Who runs that shop? Who owns it? Are they the village busybody? What would cause them to quit the business? In the mind of the writer, intrigue bubbles up.
In ‘Wild Irish Dreams,’ my short story in the anthology, main character Alix Thorssen owns an art gallery in Jackson Hole. In a previous story her partner and ex-boyfriend has been killed trying to save her life. She’s still recovering from that trauma when an old friend of both of theirs comes to town, looking for the boyfriend, Paolo. His motives are unclear at first but become very focused as the story progresses.
The four Alix Thorssen mysteries are my first published novels. I have also published a series set in pre-World War 2 Kansas City, several stand-alone thrillers, and my most popular series, the Bennett Sisters Mysteries, now 18 strong. The latest in that series is ‘Here There and Everywhere.’
I am thrilled to be in this anthology where all the proceeds go to reading charities in the UK, Ireland, and the US. There is no greater good than getting children to read and enjoying it, to my mind. I hope you enjoy ‘Little Shop of Murders’ as much as I do.
Thank you Lise for visiting today!

Why I Nominated Read for Good as a Charity to Benefit from
“The Little Shop of Murders”
by Debbie Young
When the editors of The Little Shop of Murders asked its authors to suggest children’s charities to benefit from the book’s profits, I had no hesitation in putting forward Read for Good. This wonderful charity does great work across the UK bringing the love of books and reading to children and young people in all sociodemographic groups via schools, hospitals and other settings.
Read for Good’s prime purpose is to motivate children to read for pleasure because reading changes lives. Habitual reading offers many proven benefits that last lifelong, such as:
Greater academic achievement
More successful careers
Better word power and vocabulary
Stronger social skills
Happier interpersonal relationships
I was lucky enough to work part-time for Read for Good for three years, just after I’d left my last full-time job to give myself more time for writing. It was a joy to work for an organisation that so valued books and reading, and what I learned there made me all the more determined to write books of my own and to promote reading to adults as well as to children. It’s one reason why I went on to found an accessible, affordable literature festival in my village.
The experience also made me aware of how privileged I had been as a child to have constant access to books and libraries, and to have parents who encouraged me to read for pleasure. I also realised for the first time how difficult it is for children in hospital to get access to a good supply of books, not least because infection control makes it impossible to share books or accept donations of second-hand books.
Read for Good’s work focuses on two key settings, schools and hospitals, but it also reaches out to other community groups and organisations.
For schools, Read for Good provides first-class resources, entirely free of charge. These resources help teachers run a sponsored reading for pleasure programme, Readathon®, that enthuse children to read for pleasure. It’s an important principle of Read for Good that children should choose to read whatever they enjoy – a refreshing change from prescribed reading curricula and books set for exams! By taking part in sponsored reads, young readers earn new books for their school libraries, and they also raise money to help children in hospital via Read for Good’s hospital programme.
Read for Good’s hospital programme provides new books and storytellers to all major children’s hospitals in the country, all year round. They supply colourful mobile bookcases to be taken around the wards and treatment areas, and they keep these trollies stocked with a huge selection of brand-new books, allowing poorly children to escape into stories. They also send professional storytellers on regular hospital tours, brightening the days of young patients, parents, carers and staff with welcome distraction and entertainment.
Any medical or community setting may also apply for one of Read for Good’s Brilliant Boxes of Books to provide young readers with access to appealing, modern reading matter to ignite their enthusiasm.
I left my job at Read for Good ten years ago to write full time. Since then, it’s grown and diversified, coping admirably with disruptions such as Covid and political and economic changes. The charity continues to be innovative, thoughtful, and thorough, and I’m bowled over by how much its relatively small but dedicated team achieves.
To find out more about the how Read for Good is improving the lives and futures of children and young people all over the country, visit its website at www.readforgood.org – and prepare to be amazed.
