Top 10 kpop songs of May

오늘 조금 취해서 그래 - YOUHA. Fully expected it at #1. TIL I learned the English title is "a bit tipsy" written as one word and the Korean title is "I'm a little drunk today." A god-tier song.

Flower Rain - YOUHA. Also no surprise. Another god-tier song.

Dahlia - (G)I-DLE. I remember listening to this and thinking it was gonna be my song of the month. That chorus is just sooo pretty.

Lost - (G)I-DLE. Something about it just clicked. Love the outro.

Island - YOUHA. Took a second to grow on me but gosh another banger from Youha.

Moon - (G)I-DLE. Love how the instrumental runs a counter-melody. Officially love every song from I burn.

Salty & Sweet - aespa. I like it but I am a bit surprised to see it so high up. It sounds poorly mixed. Still good though.

Left Right - XG. Grew on me when I made my chill playlist.

Yeah Yeah Yeah - Blackpink. Also a little surprising. But it and Left Right were both obvious additions to Chill so I guess that's why.

有吗炒面 ALGTR - Lexie Liu. Nice to see it hanging on. Such a majestic city pop synth infused dreamy song. Damn that was too many adjectives. Nonsense, no such thing.

First time top 5 artists have all been kpop (+ Lexie Liu at #5). Also first time no Lorde. Also a bit surprised that (G)I-DLE is #1. Then followed by Twice, who didn't have any songs in my top 10, then Youha, then Sunmi, and the bottom 5 is TS, Itzy, Halsey, Mamamoo, and IU. Love to see it.

Fresh Finds - May

Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard's Wife - Le Sserafim. Liked it even more when I realized what the title meant. Excellent soft girl crush, fun choreo, but the beat could be better.

Salty & Sweet - aespa. Excellent, excellent instrumental. Something sounds wrong about the mixing, like the voice isn't coming through clear at the beginning. As always the choreo is pathetic.

Hare Hare - Twice. A fun song. Not much to say though.

Queencard - (G)I-DLE. Very catchy cringe. Love Minnie's low opening lines. Also a fan of "What the Y2K." Much better than the censored, bad English rap of Tomboy.

Allergy - (G)I-DLE. Fun pop punk!

Wave - Ive. Goddamn the squash sounds actually work.

Pretty good! That's spring (and soon summer) for you. They really dominate the good releases.

the last thing i want to say for now is im very happy everyone is at least willing to listen to the issue despite what side they fall on. i think too it helps to recognize every part of this issue, because its not as simple as pro v anti or invader zim drama. after seeing the internet fall victim to black and white mentality it is a relief to see some critical consideration to look at the information we have and form an opinion

the problem with writing the fic about Jane’s recipe blog is that I desperately want to include my real favorite recipes in it!! Which would be so fun, because I genuinely enjoy baking and cook for myself almost every night, so I have a bunch of good recipes that could work for the fic.

Unfortunately, I forget sometimes (because I only cook for two people) that my cooking is….unsettlingly allergy friendly. Yes, it’s all gluten free. Sure, every single thing can be subbed out for non-dairy alternatives, and we often make them that way! Eggs are a little bit harder, but a ton of my baking recipes can use banana or applesauce with a little baking powder as a substitute for the moisture and leavening of a genuine egg.

Just…..I forget that not everyone is dealing with 3-5 food allergies at all times when baking for themselves and their friends.

#I’m still having fun with this concept #but I’m realizing that the structure I was considering may not actually work #because I was truly going to theme this around Actual Real Recipes that Jane Is Writing About #possibly one for each month of the year #sort of a seasonal thing #with a little vignette from the polycule before each fake recipe post where she recaps the drama and then shares the actual recipe #and then maybe some of her more entertaining comments on the recipe post #like it’s still funny if there aren’t real recipes #but it’s so much funnier to me if they’re all genuinely my favorite seasonal baked goods #only all of my personal favorite recipes are actually gluten free and mostly dairy free so I can’t actually be annoying about modifications #because They Work #sugar and spikes au

Gotta be honest, I overestimated myself today! Maybe I’ll finish the car someday, but not on a hectic one-hermit-a-day schedule like right now.
