Le Fay #1
Tumblr media
Le Fay #1 No Sleep/Evoluzione Publishing 2019 Created & Written by Marcel Dupree & Joshua Metzger Illustrated by Miguel Angel Ruiz Coloured by Vittorio Astone Lettered by Justin Birch     Morgan Le Fay was one of the most powerful fay. After a battle with Merlin she woke up powerless in the modern world. Determined to get her powers back she has decided to work as a PI for the Fay World in order to find clues on what happened to her.     I have been a fan of Evoluzione since Marcel sent me the first book he asked to be reviewed. I don't get to as many as I would like to, at least in a timely manner, but I super stoked to be doing this one. From the way that it's billed to the reality of what we see this is their strongest title to date and it's an amazingly good read. I very much like the idea of taking THE Morgan Le Fay and doing something with her that we've never seen done before. The freshness of the take and the originality behind the way this comes to life will grab your mind and imagination so you become engaged faster than you'll realise. This is a great attribute to have obviously and I love the fact that this has me so invested so early on.     I am blown away by how this is being written. The story & plot development that we see through the sequence of events unfolding as well as how the reader learns information is presented beautifully. There is this great way that the story, past and now that are being told that I appreciate in ways I wasn't expecting to be. The bluntness of what we see being said is refreshing and it leads directly into the character development. The sheer fact that we see who Morgan is, has been and will continue to be is crystal clear throughout this issue is sensational to see. I love the almost unapologetic way and manner that she has about who she is. Plus I adore Billy and the big bad we see here, who isn't the lead, just sends shivers down my spine with anticipation as the introduction of character is handled so incredibly well. The pacing is superb and the way it takes us though the pages revealing the twists and turns along the way really helps it work with everything else to create the books ebb & flow.     The interiors here are bloody well mindbogglingly good! I am stunned and enthralled by the interiors and how we see not just the linework, which is exquisite, or how the varying weights are being utilised. No it's the combination of all those in the backgrounds and the faces with their facial expressions and how this brings us depth perception, scale and the overall sense of size and scope of the book. Plus it gives that extra layer of characterisation that words alone cannot accomplish. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show an absolutely marvellous eye for storytelling. The colour work we see is divine! The utilisation of the hues and tones within the colours that create the shading, highlights and shadow work is just dreamy to see. There is subtlety and boldness mixed together in some images while toying with the eye in others and it is an amazing experience.      The introduction of the characters, the way the mind is engaged in some mundane and others supernatural ways but when they all blend together in such a wow manner. This is the years Magnificent Obsession and you'd best be on your way finding out for yourself why I say this. The writing is phenomenal, the interiors are stunning and all together this really slaps you in face with how good it is.

                                                       PART II
The Crimson City has taken new shape as The Emerald City, and the booze pours like water. Of course, anyone with foresight will know even a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration can’t go untouched by at least one of the families. The drinks have made their rounds, whether that’s lounged at the bar or courtesy of the green and orange clad waiters delivering martinis on a tray. Everyone found their way to their favorite attraction—more like staggered to their favorite attraction—when the heat pooled at their toes, licked its way up their ankles. Before they knew it, their entire bodies were consumed in heat, reddening their cheeks like a sunburn in the middle of Chicago’s burning summer.
It clicked just a little too late that they had been dosed, and the rage set in before common sense. Something erupted in the crowd, volcanic and angry, and the fights broke out like they were on a schedule. It was chaos; chaos that couldn’t be contained by the police guards eyeing the perimeter to prevent an event like last time. Civilians and family members alike, everyone present, began to lose their grip on reality. Attachments were lost in the wildfire of it all, and those who looked like friends morphed into something to be feared.
The O’Shea creation, BUA, and its side effects come from equal parts LSD, methamphetamines, and cocaine, all without the floating euphoria of feeling high. It’s very capable of killing, even in small doses, and even with the likelihood that you’ll survive, the drug leaves its traces on your brain for weeks after ingestion. BUA comes in all forms, and it can be injected, snorted, and smoked, depending on the vehicle of delivery. BUA is incredibly addictive, and it’s hard enough to get a hold of that anyone who ingests the drug will deal with the aftermath of withdrawals.
Your character, for the time being, is under the influence of BUA, meaning they may act out of character and violent toward their surroundings. That includes friends, enemies, and strangers.
Part II will run from March 20th through March 23rd. For this event, we’ll be throwing characters into groups, so they may interact with whoever they’re teamed up with. You can find all of your assigned groups below. If your character is not included, please feel free to reach out to the admins, and we’ll find a place for your muse. Also please note that your character could have been drugged by drinking any drink or eating any food.
SHORT-TERM SIDE EFFECTS (2-3 HOURS):
Rapid breathing
Increased sweating (typically with accompanying chills)
Pin-sized pupils
Skin redness
Hallucinations
Extreme agitation
Violent tendencies
Obsessive tendencies
Spiking energy and heart rate
Memory loss/lack of attachment
Death
LONG TERM SIDE EFFECTS (1-2 WEEKS)
Night terrors
Fever
Increased sweating (typically with accompanying chills)
Mood swings (ranging from violent outbursts to extreme depression)
Spiking heart rate
Lethargy
Muscle pain
Paranoia
Nausea
Mental confusion
Excessive hunger or craving
Death

Marcel Dupree and the Multiple Kickstarter Comic Book Campaigns
Tumblr media
Kickstarter and other crowd-funding companies have created a new revenue and publishing stream for comic book creators. It can be used to sidestep distributors and retaiklers, allowing individuals to back comics they like the look of, pre-order them and receive them directly. But it is common in comics publishers for small press publishers that much may go wrong. Delays are the big bugbear and on Kickstarter, combined with fulfillment issues, it’s nomal for the estimated delivery date to be a work of fiction, Lateness comes with the territory. But there;’s a difference between that and non-delivery – and a Kickstaretr funded project that suddenly stops talking to the p[eople who have backed it and are now wondering where their stuff is.
Marcel Dupree is a comic book creator/publisher with multiple accounts on Kickstarter, running simultaneous campaigns for different titles, but it seems many aren’t getting what they donated towards. With backer messages and e-mails being ignored. Collaborators on his projects have also been subject to people asking them where their stuff is – and they have no idea. And in one case, they really don’t want to know.

Soul Pact #1
Tumblr media
Soul Pact #1 Evoluzione Publishing 2019 Written by Marcel Dupree Illustrated by Vincenzo Sansone Coloured by Lorenzo Berdondini Lettered by Justin Birch     Nell was lord of the 5th ring of hell until her sisters betrayed her and left her for dead. A human girl named Nia found her. They made a pact that she can possess Nia if she helps her get revenge on bullies. Little did Nia know that Nell has her own revenge plot as well.     I have been an ardent supporter of Evoluzione Publishing for a while now. I like that they have found a niche that is under explored and often ignored. This is a fun book and I rather enjoyed how everything here has been done. The opening is done extremely well and it does exactly what it is supposed to do it piques the readers’ curiosity and interest and ensures they want to keep reading and see what happens next. It isn’t just writing Marcel does because at least one of these sister demons is the kind that you stare at and stare some more and you’ll understand when you see it but dayum son.     The way that this is structured is very well done and the way that the story & plot development flow throughout the pages shows some very good talent and skill. Marcel keeps improving with with ever new project he does and it’s a joy to see him blossom into such a talented writer. The way that we are introduced to these characters is a joy to see and while they may say things that make me cringe, not my language not my place to judge, it is a part of the culture for these characters of colour and I handle the N word in small doses. Still with the sister demons, the kids and the mysterious man in the coat are brought out in a natural progression within the story and it helps us see these them more as people.     The characterisation here is interesting as well. While I have no idea how the sisters are supposed to be they are demons so that will be fun to watch the more we see them. The coffee shop table with the N word and then there’s Josh who it almost feels like he is forced into a box and he comes across more muddy but with the potential to grow. All of it is at that point where we want to see their personalities grow and evolve and that’s an essential feeling for the reader.    I am a huge fan of the interiors here! The linework is incredibly good showing off a strong steady hand. By utilising the varying weights they way Vincenzo is doing creates this absolutely stellar attention to detail. The composition in the panels is giving me life and seeing backgrounds like this make them stand out, expand the moments and brings a sense of size and scope to the book. This shit is so damn good and I am not only in awe of it but it makes me want to see more. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a stupendous eye for storytelling. The colour work is strong, and vibrant and complimentary. The utilisation of light sources to create shading and shadows is nice to see though some more colour gradation and possibly a weathering effect when it comes to walls and buildings would make this stand out even more. Still the work is amazing and fully enhances the linework.     There really is so much going on in Nia’s world and whether it’s her gaming, rushing a Sorority or her friends in her ear she’s got too many different varying opinions being thrown at her. So what does this do to an impressionable young woman? The answer to that lays inside these pages and you are going to thoroughly enjoy watching that unfold before your eyes.

5 NFL teams that desperately need salary cap space
Tumblr media
Photo by Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images
Two teams, the Vikings and Jaguars, are entering the offseason over the $200 million salary cap.
Hope springs eternal in the NFL offseason. Every team has a chance to sign and draft new players who could become difference-makers in the future.
Some franchises have more resources than others, though.
There are teams that landed near the top of the 2020 NFL Draft order, a few that made trades to acquire more draft picks, and some that have plenty of room under the salary cap to dish out big money in free agency. On the flip side, there are a handful of teams that can’t afford to do much unless they make some tough decisions.
Here are the five teams entering the 2020 offseason with the most tenuous salary cap situations, and what they can do to clear space (all cap figures as of Feb. 12, courtesy of Over The Cap):
Atlanta Falcons ($5.3 million in cap space)
The Falcons didn’t make many changes after finishing the 2019 season with a 7-9 record. Head coach Dan Quinn, general manager Thomas Dimitroff, and offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter were all retained. Minimal cap space means the team doesn’t have room to make many big moves in the offseason either.
How did they get here? Matt Ryan’s 2018 extension isn’t the most expensive in the league, but his $24.175 million cap hit is still sixth among quarterbacks. Julio Jones is one of 12 non-quarterbacks with a hit over $20 million. There are another five players (Jake Matthews, Desmond Trufant, Grady Jarrett, Alex Mack, and Deion Jones) due to cost the Falcons at least $10 million each.
Three moves to save money
Release running back Devonta Freeman (save $9.5 million): Only four running backs are set to cost more in 2020. Meanwhile, Freeman’s 3.6 yards per carry made him one of the least effective backs in the league in 2019. He doesn’t seem to fit in Koetter’s offense and he’s through all the guaranteed money in his contract. It makes sense that the Falcons are reportedly considering a split.
Restructure for cornerback Desmond Trufant (save $5-10 million): The last four years of Trufant’s career in Atlanta haven’t been as stellar as his first three. He’s not a bad player when healthy, but Trufant is overpaid with a cap hit of $15.15 million. The Falcons would only get back $4.95 million in savings by releasing or trading Trufant though. The better move would be shifting some of his base salary into a signing bonus to clear space.
Release safety Keanu Neal (save $6.47 million): This is the least likely of the three moves, mostly because Neal is a former Pro Bowler who’s still just 24. However, an ACL tear cost him 15 games in 2018 and an Achilles tear kept him out for 13 games in 2019.
Chicago Bears ($5 million in cap space)
The Super Bowl push didn’t go as planned in 2019. Still, the Bears finished 8-8 and have a roster that can be a winner in 2020. They’re keeping Mitchell Trubisky at quarterback and probably won’t want to do anything too drastic to clear space.
How did they get here? There are only four players in the NFL with bigger cap hits than Khalil Mack‘s $26.6 million number, and they’re all quarterbacks. Another seven Bears — six of whom play defense — have payouts between $10 and $15 million. Chicago still has an elite defense, but it’s paying a lot for the dominant unit.
Three moves to save money
Release linebacker Leonard Floyd (save $13.22 million): After seven sacks in his rookie season, Floyd’s production has dropped each year. He managed just three sacks in 2019. Now he’s headed into the fifth-year option of his rookie deal and the Bears can recoup the entire $13.222 million by cutting ties with him.
Release or trade receiver Taylor Gabriel (save $4.5 million): The slot receiver missed a couple games early in 2019 due to a concussion and then five more at the end of the season after suffering a second concussion. In his stead, Anthony Miller stepped up as a starter. That makes Gabriel expendable, and — if Chicago is lucky — he’s a player who could have some trade value.
Extend receiver Allen Robinson (save $5-10 million): In a season, 98 receptions, 1,147 yards, and seven touchdowns are impressive numbers for any player. That Robinson did it with Mitchell Trubisky and a 29th-ranked offense is ridiculous. The Bears should want to keep Robinson around and an extension would secure that, as well as shift much of his cap hit into later years.
Pittsburgh Steelers ($1.4 million in cap space)
A season that looked like a lost cause early nearly turned into a playoff run for the Steelers. They don’t have much room to make many moves, but, fortunately for them, they don’t need to.
How did they get here? The hefty two-year, $68 million extension given to Ben Roethlisberger last year didn’t pay off when the quarterback was sidelined for almost all of 2019. Jared Goff is the only player with a cap hit larger than Roethlisberger’s $33.5 million in 2020. Barring a surprise retirement, there’s not much Pittsburgh can do about that contract. The team will have to chip away at other parts of the roster to find cap room.
Three moves to save money
Release tight end Vance McDonald (save $5.67 million): The veteran tight end averaged just 19.5 receiving yards per game and 5.0 yards per target in 2019. The Steelers need tight end help, but drafting one would be better than picking up McDonald’s contract option.
Release linebacker Mark Barron (save $5.25 million): Adding Devin Bush to the middle of the defense made Barron expendable. He split time with Vince Williams this past season, and is now due to cost over $8 million in 2020. That’s way too much for a rotational player. While Pittsburgh would have to eat some dead money, the savings would be worth it.
Release linebacker Anthony Chickillo (save $5 million): The Steelers led the NFL in sacks with 54, and got only a half-sack out of Chickillo. Outside linebacker will be a problem area for Pittsburgh if Bud Dupree departs, but it’s not worth keeping Chickillo over $5 million.
Jacksonville Jaguars ($3.4 million over the cap)
The Jaguars have a lot of work to do before a return to the playoffs can happen. The once-dominant Jacksonville defense has regressed and the offense was 26th in points scored.
How did they get here? The Jaguars ponied up serious cash in 2017 to sign Calais Campbell, A.J. Bouye, Barry Church, and Tashaun Gipson in free agency. Then they traded for Marcell Dareus and took on another sizable contract. Now those deals are eating up a lot of room. It didn’t help that the team blew $130 million in two offseasons on Blake Bortles and Nick Foles. Trading Foles would only clear a few million. Fortunately, the Jaguars can clear up a ton of space with mostly inconsequential moves.
Three moves to save money
Release defensive tackle Marcell Dareus (save $20 million): Twenty million! The Jaguars could use his run-stopping prowess, but not in lieu of that much money. Besides, Dareus isn’t the same player who was an All-Pro in 2014. Now he’s mostly a run stuffer who doesn’t make many plays in the backfield.
Release linebacker Jake Ryan (save $6 million): The former Packers linebacker played one defensive snap in his first season with the Jaguars. He missed the first three months of the year on the reserve/non-football injury list and suffered a hamstring injury shortly after returning to action. Cutting ties is a no-brainer.
Release tight end Geoff Swaim (save $4.05 million): An ankle injury and a concussion ended Swaim’s first season with the Jaguars after only six games. He only had 65 receiving yards in his limited time on the field, and was outperformed by several other Jaguars tight ends.
Minnesota Vikings ($11.4 million over the cap)
The Vikings have the largest pit to climb out of, and — unlike the Jaguars with Dareus — don’t have a $20 million golden parachute out of trouble.
How did they get here? Kirk Cousins’ fully guaranteed contract was unprecedented and is now due to count $31 million against the cap in 2020. Another eight players on the Vikings’ roster have cap hits of at least $12 million.
Three moves to save money
Extend quarterback Kirk Cousins (save as much as $22.84 million): Minnesota has gotten two second-place finishes in the NFC North and one playoff win out of the Cousins era. Is that all his fault? No. But it hasn’t been enough either. Even still, Cousins had a 107.4 passer rating and probably isn’t a player the Vikings want to part with yet. So now is a great time to give him an extension and push a significant chunk of his $31 million hit into later years.
Release cornerback Xavier Rhodes (save $8.1 million): Rhodes’ play has fallen off a cliff. The 2017 All-Pro allowed a 127.8 passer rating on throws his direction in 2019, third-highest among cornerbacks. And that’s just the regular season. The number jumped to 155.8 in the Vikings’ two playoff games. Maybe if Minnesota had a better cap situation it could hope for a bounce-back year from Rhodes. That’s not a risk the team can afford, however.
Release defensive tackle Linval Joseph (save $10.55 million): There’s more than $13 million in potential savings if the Vikings release Everson Griffen. The defensive end is still playing at a Pro Bowl level, though. Joseph is not. The nose tackle’s production has declined and he finished with a Pro Football Focus grade below 70 for the first time since 2011. Joseph is a defensive leader, but the Vikings could find a cheaper way to stop the run.
