ROLL YOUR WAY TO FREEDOM WITH THIS BABY BLARING ON THE STEREO -- ONLY ON MAN'S RUIN.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on the now out-of-print "Sun Creature" CD/EP by American stoner rock band NEBULA. The band's second EP was released under the legendary Man's Ruin Records in March 1999 and contains a nine-minute-long bonus track entitled "Fly On" exclusive to the Man's Ruin CD pressing. Sleeve art/package design by Frank Kozik (1962-2023).
OVERVIEW: "After leaving FU MANCHU, guitarist Eddie Glass and drummer Rubin Romano formed a new band, NEBULA, and continued to record for Man's Ruin. Those who heard Fu Manchu's "Eatin' Dust" will find "Sun Creature" to be quite similar. Like FU MANCHU, NEBULA is greatly influenced by the classic heavy metal and hard rock of the early '70s and favors a stripped down and garage-like sound.
You won't find any more pop gloss on this four-song EP than you found on "Eatin' Dust" -- NEBULA is fueled by raw energy on the slow burners "Fly On" (which is heard as a bonus track on the EP's CD version), "Sun Creature," "Smokin' Woman" and "Rollin' My Way to Freedom."
PART III/END: Though the similarities between NEBULA and FU MANCHU are impossible to miss, this band is more apt to get into jamming and long solos. "Sun Creature" isn't mind-blowing, but it has enough raw energy and enthusiasm to make it enjoyable."

"THIS IS DRAGPUNK, FUCKER!" -- ONLY ON MAN'S RUIN RECORDS.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on the "Werewolves On Wheels" picture disc to the "Demons On Wheels" album by San Francisco garage rock band THE DEMONICS, the band's second full-length released under the late, great Man's Ruin Records in the fall of 2000.
ALBUM OVERVIEW: "Combine an infectious, hook-laden hard rock/punk blend with an obsession with '60s biker movies, and you have THE DEMONICS, whose "Demons on Wheels" is an invigorating exercise in rowdy, reckless fun. If this California band had been around in the '60s, this release would have been the perfect soundtrack for Dennis Hopper's "Easy Rider." Everything on the CD is about the misadventures of bikers, and infectious gems like "Race Against Dawn," "Dustin' the Fuzz," "Dunebuggy Denise," and "Fuel-Injected Suicide Machine" give the impression that THE DEMONICS loved every minute of "Easy Rider .""
-- ALLMUSIC (Alex Henderson)

12 CHOICE CUTS OF PURE UNSANITY -- ONLY ON MAN'S RUIN RECORDS.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on complete package art to "Amrep Xmas," the fierst live album by American noise rock band UNSANE, released in 1997 through Man's Ruin Records. Sleeve art/package design by the late, great Frank Kozik (1962-2023).
ALBUM OVERVIEW: "Recorded live to a mobile unit in St. Paul, MN, in late 1996 for the Amphetamine Reptile Records Christmas party, "Amrep Christmas" was UNSANE's first foray into live album territory, later bested by "Attack: Live in Japan," an import-only set recorded in Tokyo.
Noise rock doesn't always translate well from the stage to tape, what with the unpredictable dynamics of small clubs and the difficulty in getting clean recording out of overdriven amps. Accordingly, this album is rather uneven. It certainly captures the manic intensity of the band performing live, but there are a few glitches, including tape drop-outs, an ill-timed reel change, and some small errors in song execution.
Such phenomena also indicates that, unlike many (perhaps most) big-budget live albums, there were no overdubs -- this is strictly plug in and play, live to tape. Tonally, Spencer's chugging Telecaster guitar is on target, even if his voice shows decided road wear. The set, while focusing primarily on the "Scattered, Smothered, and Covered" album, contains a few gems from "Total Destruction" and the band's infamous version of LED ZEPPELIN's "Four Sticks.""

IPMM: "Tell our readers a bit about Man’s Ruin Records, I’m not sure how many people know you ran a music label at one point also."
FRANK KOZIK: "Started on a whim in 1995 grew rapidly, but out a ton of releases then collapse in the big distributor auto-da-fé ("act of faith") of 2001-2002. It was a wild ride."
