25 Jahre Gaswerk - "Zeitschneise” Stefan Kraus & Marc Sauter

Driven by a soundtrack by Weimar-based composer Marc Sauter, the video "Zeitschneise" by Berlin-based media art studio MXZEHN mills through the image archive of the Weimar Gaswerk - a place that has been constantly reinventing itself for 25 years. Images from countless art actions, performances, workshops, happenings and festivities uncover, layer by layer, 25 years of art and culture that have found a home in the former industrial site and given the old buildings a second youth. The video gives viewers intuitive, perhaps emotional access to a story told through a multitude of actors, places and objects, behind each of which individual experiences and stages of life emerge.

Getrieben von einem Soundtrack des Weimarer Komponisten Marc Sauter fräst sich das Video “Zeitschneise” des Berliner Medienkunst Studios MXZEHN durch das Bildarchiv des Weimarer Gaswerks - einem Ort der sich seit 25 Jahren immer neu erfindet. Bilder von unzähligen Kunstaktionen, Performances, Workshops, Happenings und Festlichkeiten legen Schicht für Schicht 25 Jahre Kunst und Kultur frei, die in dem ehemaligen Industriestandort eine Heimat gefunden und den alten Gebäuden eine zweite Jugend beschert haben. Das Video eröffnet den Betrachtern einen intuitiven, vielleicht auch emotionalen Zugang zu einer Geschichte, die sich durch eine Vielzahl von Akteuren, Orten und Objekten erzählt, hinter denen jeweils individuelle Erlebnisse und Lebensabschnitte zum Vorschein kommen.

MXZEHN Im Garten der kybernetischen Kreatur

As the shadows of centuries stretched further and further – the last angels had long forgotten who once created them – the cybernetic creature bedded itself and closed, for the first time its eyes. Far away a galaxy collapses, electromagnetic waves delicately break on the shores of eternity, their spume heavy, red – colored by the dust of burnt out celestial bodies and the creature dreams. Dreams again the world's destiny.

The live audiovisual performance “Im Garten der kybernetischen Kreatur” is an artistic experiment built using various different forms of the organic and the synthetic. Bethan Hughes, Stefan Kraus and Marc Sauter come together to present a vision of the dreams and nightmares produced by creatures simultaneously animal and machine.

MXZEHN is a fantastic audio visual artist and creates beautiful performances for his audiences. I really like the piece above because he plays with old school 3D technology which creates an interesting 3D effect for the audience watching.

Fachkurs : Behind the Mask - 360°

Der Fachkurs führt die Studierenden mittels praktischer Übungen und Vorlesungen an die Inhaltserstellung in virtuellen Umgebungen heran. Von der einfachen Smartphone App, über Photoshop, Google Cardboard und YouTube zur interaktiven Programmierung mit TouchDesigner und der Unreal Engine 4 werden verschiedene Techniken vorgestellt um für virtuelle Welten zu entwerfen. Zwei Schwerpunkte werden in praktischen Übungen Inhalt entwerferischer Auseinandersetzung: Die Aufnahme und Animation von 360° Szenarien für die Ausgabe auf Google Cardboard tauglichen Geräten, sowie das Design einer virtuellen, interaktiven, audiovisuellen Szenographie in der Software TouchDesigner, zu der ein Einführungskurs gegeben wird.

Der Fachkurs wird ergänzend zu dem Projekt Behind the Mask empfohlen.
