A doctors’ organization at the center of the ongoing legal fight over the abortion drug mifepristone has suffered a significant data breach. A link to an unsecured Google Drive published on the group’s website pointed users last week to a large cache of sensitive documents, including financial and tax records, membership rolls, and email exchanges spanning over a decade. The more than 10,000 documents lay bare the outsize influence of a small conservative organization working to lend a veneer of medical science to evangelical beliefs on parenting, sex, procreation, and gender.
The American College of Pediatricians, which has fought to deprive gay couples of their parental rights and encouraged public schools to treat LGBTQ youth as if they were mentally ill, is one of a handful of conservative think tanks leading the charge against abortion in the United States. A federal lawsuit filed by the College and its partners against the US Food and Drug Administration seeks to limit nationwide access to what is now the most common form of abortion. The case is now on a trajectory for the US Supreme Court, which not even a year ago declared abortion the purview of America’s elected state representatives.
The leaked records, first reported by WIRED, offer an unprecedented look at the groups and personnel central to that campaign. They also describe an organization that has benefited greatly by exaggerating its own power, even as it has struggled quietly for two decades to grow in size and gain respect. The records show how the College, which the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) describes as a hate group, managed to introduce fringe beliefs into the mainstream simply by being, as the founder of Fox News once put it, “the loudest voice in the room.”
The Leak
A WIRED review of the exposed data found that the unsecured Google Drive stored nearly 10,000 files, some of which are compressed zip files containing additional documents. These records detail highly sensitive internal information about the College’s donors and taxes, social security numbers of board members, staff resignation letters, budgetary and fundraising concerns, and the usernames and passwords of more than 100 online accounts. The files include Powerpoint presentations, Quickbooks accounting documents, and at least 388 spreadsheets.
One spreadsheet appears to be an export of an internal database containing information on 1,200 past and current members. It contains intimate personal information about each member, including various contact details, as well as where they were educated, how they heard of the group, and when membership dues were paid. The records show past and current members are mostly male and, on average, over 50 years old. As of spring 2022, the College counted slightly more than 700 members, according to another document reviewed by WIRED.
The breach exposes some material dating back to the group’s origin. It includes mailing lists gathered by the group of thousands of “conservative physicians” across the country. (One document outlining recruitment efforts states in bold, red letters: “TARGET CHRISTIAN MDs.”) The ongoing recruitment of doctors and medical school students seen as holding Christian views has long been its top priority. The leaked records indicate that more than 10,000 mailers were sent to physicians between 2013 and 2017 alone.
While the group’s membership rolls are not public, the leak has outed most if not all of its members. A cursory review of the member lists surfaced one name of note: a recent commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, who after joining in 2019 asked that his membership with the group remain a secret. (WIRED was unable to reach the official for comment in time for publication.)
The SPLC’s “hate group” designation, which the College forcefully disputes, haunted its fundraising efforts, records reveal. A barrage of emails in 2014 show that the label cost the group the chance to benefit from an Amazon program that would eventually distribute $450 million to charities across the globe. Amazon would deny the College’s application, stating that it relied on the SPLC to determine which charities fall into certain ineligible categories.
A strategy document would later refer to a “unified plan” among the College and its allies to “continue discrediting the SPLC,” which included a campaign aimed at lowering its rating at Charity Navigator, one of the web’s most influential nonprofit evaluators. One of the group’s admins noted that despite SPLC’s label, another charity monitor, GuideStar, listed the College as being in “good standing.”
The College’s GuideStar page no longer says this and appears to have been defaced. It now reads, “AMERICAN COLLEGE OF doodoo fartheads,” with a mission statement saying: “we are evil and hate gays :(((”
The Google Drive containing the documents was taken offline soon after WIRED contacted the American College of Pediatricians. The College did not respond to a request for comment.
The Talk
Leaked communications between members of the group and minutes taken at board meetings over the course of several years speak loudly about the challenges the group faced in pursuing its deeply unpopular agenda: returning America to a time when the laws and social mores around family squared neatly with evangelical Christian beliefs.
Many of the College’s most radical views target transgender people, and in particular, transgender youth. The leak, which had been indexed by Google, includes volumes of literature crafted specifically to influence relationships between practicing pediatricians, parents, and their children. It includes reams of marketing material the College aims to distribute widely among public school officials. This includes pushing schools to adopt junk science painting transgender youth as carriers of a pathological disorder, one that’s capable of spontaneously causing others–à la the dancing plague–to adopt similar thoughts and behaviors.
This is one of the group’s most dubious claims. While unsupported by medical science, it is routinely and incuriously propagated through literature targeted at schools and medical offices around the US. The primary source for this claim is a research paper drafted in 2017 by Lisa Littman, a Brown University scholar who, while a medical doctor, had not specialized in mental health. The goal of the paper was to introduce, conceptually, “rapid onset gender dysphoria”—a hypothetical disorder, as was later clarified by the journal that published it. Littman would also clarify personally that her research “does not validate the phenomenon” she’d hypothesized, since no clinicians, nor individuals identifying as trans, had participated in the study.
The paper explains that its subjects were instead all parents who had been recruited from a handful of websites known for opposing gender-affirmative care and “telling parents not to believe their child is transgender.” A review of one of the sites from the period shows parents congregating to foster paranoia about whether there’s a “conspiracy of silence” around “anime culture” that was brainwashing boys into behaving like girls; insights plucked in some cases straight from another, more notorious forum (widely known for reveling in the suicides of the people it has bullied).
A 2021 prospectus describing the group’s focus, ideology, and lobbying efforts encapsulates a wide range of “educational resources” destined for the inboxes of physicians and medical school students. The materials include links to a website instructing doctors on how to speak to children in a variety of scenarios about a multitude of topics surrounding sex, including in the absence of their parents. Practice scripts of conversations between doctors and patients advise, among other things, ways to elicit a child’s thoughts on sex with the help of an imaginative metaphor.
While the material is not expressly religious, it is clearly aimed at painting same-sex marriage as aberrant and immoral behavior. Physicians lobbied by the group are also told to urge patients to purchase Christian-based parenting guides, including one designed to help parents broach the topic of sex with their 11- and 12-year-old kids. The College suggests telling parents to plan a “special overnight trip,” a pretext for instilling in their children sexual norms in line with evangelical practice. The group suggests telling parents to buy a tool called a “getaway kit,” a series of workbooks that run around $54 online. The workbooks methodically walk the parents through the process of springing the topic, but only after a day-long charade of impromptu gift-giving and play.
These books are full of games and puzzles for the parent and child to cooperatively take on. Throughout the process, the child slowly digests a concept of “sexual purity,” lessons aided by oversimplified scripture and well-trodden Bible school parables.
Another document the group shared with its members contains a script for appointments with pregnant minors. Its purpose is made evidently clear: The advice is engineered specifically to reduce the odds of minors coming into contact with medical professionals not strictly opposed to abortion. A practice script recommends the doctor inform the minor that they “strongly recommend against” abortion, adding “the procedure not only kills the infant you carry, but is also a danger to you.” (Medically, the term “fetus” and “infant” are not interchangeable, the latter referring to a newborn baby less than one year old.)
The doctors are urged to recommend that the minor visit a website that, like the aforementioned website, is not expressly religious but will only direct visitors to Catholic-run “crisis pregnancy centers,” which strictly reject abortion. The same site is widely promoted by anti-abortion groups such as National Right to Life, which last year held that it should be illegal to terminate the pregnancy of a 10-year-old rape victim.
The Professionals
The effort to ban mifepristone, legislation the Supreme Court paused last month pending further review, faces significant legal hurdles but could ultimately benefit from the appellate court’s disproportionately conservative makeup. Most of the legal power in the fight was supplied by a much older and better funded group, the Alliance Defending Freedom, which has established ties with some of the country’s most elite political figures—former vice president Mike Pence and Supreme Court justice Amy Coney Barrett among them.
A contract in the leaked documents dated April 2021 shows the ADF agreeing to legally represent the College free of charge. It stipulates that ADF’s ability to subsidize expenses incurred during lawsuits would be limited by ethical guidelines; however, it could still forgive any lingering costs simply by declaring the College “indigent.”
In contrast to the College’s some 700 members, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)–the organization from which the College’s founders split 20 years ago–has roughly 67,000. The rupture between the two groups was a direct result of a statement issued by the AAP in 2002. Modern research, the AAP said, had conclusively shown that the sexual orientation of parents had an imperceptible impact on the well-being of children, so long as they were raised in caring, supportive families.
The College would gain notoriety early on by assailing the positions of the AAP. In 2005, a Boston Globe reporter noted how common it had become for the American College of Pediatricians “to be quoted as a counterpoint” to anything said by the AAP. The institution, he wrote, had a rather “august-sounding name” for being run by a “single employee.”
Internal documents show that the group’s directors quickly encountered hurdles operating on the fringe of accepted science. Some claimed to be oppressed. Most of the College’s research had been “written by one person,” according to minutes from a 2006 meeting, which were included in the leak. The College was failing to make a splash. In the future, one director suggested, papers rejected by medical journals “should be published on the web.” The vote to do so was unanimous (though the board decided the term “not published” was nicer than “rejected”).
A second director put forth a motion to create a separate “scientific section” on the group’s website, strictly for linking to articles published in medical journals. The motion was quashed after it dawned on the board that they didn’t “have enough articles” to make the page “look professional.”
The College struggled to identify the root cause of its runtedness. “To get enough clout,” one director said, “it would take substantial numbers, maybe 10,000.” (The College’s recruitment efforts would yield fewer than 7 percent of this goal in the following 17 years.) Yet another said the marketing department advised that “the College needs to pick a fight with the AAP and get on Larry King Live.” Another, the notes say, felt the organization was too busy trying to “walk the fence” by neglecting to acknowledge that “we are conservative and religious.”

howdy, im cannibal-nighmares, i am/was/am a professional artist, amateur music critic, and literary hobbyist. I draw professor franken stein from soul eater quite a lot. I do not have a consistent-enough temperament to describe myself in words, but my principles remain the same: Do no harm, take no shit.
sometimes i post about the lived schizophrenic experience. i post entirely for the purpose of psychoanalytical observation, to share the perspective of what it's like, and to resonate with like-minded people. unless i explicitly state otherwise, i do not want any semblance of your pity. if you seek further understanding, i am open to questions, but know that my experience does not speak for or reflect everyone else's.
I never judge books by their cover and hold a grain of salt to everything before giving out ultimatums; in other words, I leave judgement to my own experience and not the opinions of others. I am known to be cautious, aloof, and skeptical. I am notorious for going radio-silent without any given notice. Nothing personal. Bad wiring. I believe in pure talent and pure spite equally, though my opinion shouldn't change what you do with your passions, so long as you are truly devoted. my only real goals in life are to rewrite the stigma around schizophrenia and to write fiction novels. ...and maybe make a bunch of fan art on the in-between.

uuuuhhhh other stuff ive seen in ppl's pinned posts that I am even less formal about:
my tags are #my art, #cannibal-nightmares rambles, #cannibal's music, #actually schizophrenic, #actually schizospec, #actually psychotic, #my fanfic, #my gifs among a few others.
as for content warnings, i try my best to tag for flashing lights/images (a sensitivity of my own), unreality, depictions of hallucinations, indiscernible voices, scopophobia, and gore. i find comfort in creepy shit, what can i say?
i like a lot of things, but my primary obsessions are Soul Eater (anime and manga), Hannibal (the entire franchise), Maniac (2018), House MD, and "The Boys Next Door" (1996). other big favourites include Fargo (FX), Mr. Robot, Better Call Saul, "Re-Animator" (1985), Arcane, True Detective, "Donnie Darko" (2001), "Ghost World" (2001), "Trainspotting" (1996, 2016) and much more. and sooo much music. So much music.
my (anon) asks are always open. send me a song or a question or a headcanon, if you dare. my response time means genuinely absolutely nothing, by the way, I might be the worst and most inconsistent reply in the world.
i'll probably end up making a schizophrenic storytime-type masterlist somewhere, sometime.
wow you made it this far. have some songs:

ECW Magazine: February 2000
Grinding His Axe
Axl Rotten wants to be respected as one of ECW’s core stars
By Matt Hunter
Rotten Fast Facts
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 302 pounds
Birthday: April 21, 1971
Hometown: Baltimore, Md.
Professional Debut: 1988
Favorite musician: Marilyn Maanson
Favorite song: “Unholy” by KISS
Real name: Axl F—ing Rotten
Most memorable ring moments: “My feud with Ian in 1995 set the standard for what people considered hardcore and extreme at the time, and to this day it has not been duplicated. One of my favorite singles matches was against Chris Candido, before Wrestlepalooza - the atmosphere and the way that match felt was electric. Then there was me and Balls against Candido and Lance Storm at Wrestlepalooza. Thought we had a damn good match.”
Most troubling ring moments: “When I was in a battle royal in Nashville for the United States Wrestling Association, I thought I was going over the top rope, but I went through the middle, and I piledrived myself on the concrete floor. I thought I was dead. Another time in World Championship Wrestling, the first night I wrestled Vader, he punched me in the chest. I’ve never been hit so hard in my life. I fell through the ropes to the floor. I was 19 years old at the time. I said to myself ‘I better get my ass back in that ring.’ I look at that as a learning experience.”
PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING IS about respect.
Different wrestlers measure respect in different ways. For Sabu, respect is measured by the volume of the fans’ chants - “ECW! ECW! ECW!” - after he flies through the air in an attempt to injure his opponent. For Balls Mahoney, respect is measured by the impact his chair shots have of a hapless opponent.
For Axl Rotten, though, respect hasn’t quite come his way – yet.
“I’ve never been one of the boys who’s held back his mouth,” Rotten said. “I’ll talk about the boss, I’ll talk about the company - sometimes it’s gotten me in trouble.”
Rotten, ironically, then left nothing unsaid about his past role in Extreme Championship Wrestling.
“Now that ECW has the national TNN deal, a lot of us who worked hard to get there aren’t getting the bigger push. I’m not saying they don’t deserve it, but I am saying don’t forget about me.
“When you look back at the history of ECW, I’m the one who always gets overlooked,” Rotten continued. “People talk about Tommy  Dreamer being there since day one but everyone forgets that Axl was there since day one. When people talk about the innovations ECW has brought to the sport, everyone else is the pioneer or the innovator.”
[Johnny Smith attacks Axl Rotten from behind with Lance Storm prone in the foreground.]
Rotten said he simply wants the respect he deserves.
“I’m not downing anybody. Everybody’s worked their asses off to help ECW get to where it is today,” he said. “I’m the last guy who wants anything handed to m. This has nothing to do with sour grapes. I just want the recognition.”
Beyond the barbed-wire bat
Until now, Rotten has had no problem getting recognition, even if it’s not quite the type he’s looking for. The violence in his matches is legendary, and his baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire has become something of a trademark. Still, he is looking for more.
“I don’t want to be known as the most hardcore guy in ECW, or the guy who bleeds the most,” Rotten said. “I want to be known as the best wrestler. I love entertaining people. When the people put down their hard-earned dollars to see Axl Rotten, I want them to be completely entertained.”
Rotten said he does not want to be known only as the wrestler with the brutal baseball bat.
“It happens to a lot of people,” he said. “You get known for one thing and you get stuck with it. But it’s not an impossible thing to get out of.”
“My reason for getting into the business in the first place was Dusty Rhodes,” Rotten continued. “He could bleed all over the place one night and still have a 40-minute match with Ric Flair the next night.”
So why, then, is Rotten finding himself being slammed through fiery tables and doused with pints of blood rather than competing in more scientific matches?
[Axl Rotten and tag team partner Balls Mahoney] “Maybe the reason I get put in the extreme position is that all the people around here who claim to be so hardcore and extreme are afraid to do it,” he said. “The days of ECW being pure extreme are gone. Mick Foley’s gone. Abdullah The Butcher is gone. The only ones left are me, Balls [Mahoney], New Jack and Spike [Dudley.] We're the ones who have to go out there and get extreme, because that’s an ECW reputation. But the truth of it is, I would just as soon have a good wrestling match with Chris Candido.”
[Anyone thirsty? Axl Rotten and Budweiser girls]
Tag team days
These days, Rotten’s matches tend to be ultra-violent tag team bouts with partner Balls Mahoney.
“We wrestled The Dudley Boyz for what seemed like two years,” Rotten said. “We wrestled Sabu and Rob Van Dam, and Candido and Lance Storm. Everyone who was put in the top tag spot, we were their opponents. And because we’re so damn tough, they always came out looking good.”
“Raven and Dreamer are a joke as tag team champions,” he continued. “Me and Balls don’t get the opportunity to win with the ball.”
Rotten said Mahoney is one of the few who truly respects him.
“Me and Balls, because we wrestled each other, respect each other as athletes,” Rotten said, “I know how hard he can swing a chair. Hell, I’m one of the craziest f—ing people I know. Then I look at Balls and I say, “Look at this guy!”
Hey Axl, what would you say if Vince McMahon called you?
“I’d say, ‘What do you want?’ He’d have to give me a reason to leave. Money alone is not a reason to leave. I’ve seen ECW grow from 2000 people in a building to thousands at a pay-per-view. I helped bring this company to where it is now. Vince would have to offer me something more than just money. I don’t think you can put a number on what ECW means to me. I don’t begrudge anyone anything. Taz? Dudleys? They have to do what’s right for them. Right now, for me, it would take a lot more than the number figure. I think there’s a lot more I can do here in ECW … if I’m given the opportunity.
Axl back on track
However, a lot of people look at Rotten and say the same thing. More troubling than what they say, though, is what they whisper: “Rotten can’t cut it. He got booted from ECW by owner Paul E. Heyman. He’s crazy in the ring, but he’s not reliable.”Rotten said those rumors helped him get back on track.
“For a time I was getting involved in a few things outside the ring I shouldn't have been involved in.” he said. “It took  Paul E. to make me realize what I was doing and how I was wasting my life. There was a quote from Paul that got back to me, he said: ‘Axl Rotten is one of the top performers in my locker room who doesn’t perform up to his abilities.’ I sat back and thought about that, and he was right.
“That was a wakeup call,” Rotten continued. I thank Paul for making me realize I’m too smart and too talented to waste my time on that.” Rotten looks forward to the task of rebuilding his ECW career.
“I’ve been as far down physically and emotionally as I could possibly be, and I’m working my way back,” he said.
By working his way back, Rotten will earn the respect he deserves from his peers and fans.

I came up with a Skibidi/MD crossover:
The Alliance attempts to create a time machine, but are attacked by the toilets. One brave rookie camera named Zero steps in to defend the scientists, but a stray rocket clips the time generator, tearing a hole in space time, sucking Zero and an unknown amount of enemies into oblivion...
Meanwhile, on Copper-9, Emily is walking through the woods, trying to find a quiet spot to read her new book. It was just a bit too noisy at camp, especially when the snowball fight ensued. All of a sudden, she hears some sort of energy burst. Quickly she looks up, and some sort of tear has formed in the sky. Several objects shoot through the opening, one heading straight for her. She runs and is knocked off her feet when whatever it is hits the ground with enough force to make a mini crater. She lays down for a moment to catch her breath and gazes at the smoke filled crater. Suddenly, she can make out some form moving in the smoke. Knowing all she does about Space aliens, she scrambles behind a tree while keeping her focus on the crater.
She looks at the form, which has stopped moving, and she realizes with panic that it's staring back at her. However, it doesn't appear to be making a move, rather just standing there. Now that the dust has cleared, she can see what this creature is. It appears to be human, at least when you don't take into account the wires and gears sticking out of tears, presumably from the fall, but as she glances up, she sees that the being's head has been replaced with some sort of security camera, and it appears to have a second circular shaped flashlight attached to the side of its head, glowing neon blue.
She decides to take a chance and takes a few steps towards this 'cameraperson', and is surprised to find that it stumbled backwards as she approached. It's not often something is afraid of little old her.
"Don't be afraid, little guy," She stated calmly, or as calmly as she could given the circumstances, "I'm not going to hurt you."
Seemingly reassured by this, the camera stopped and let her approach. As she got closer, she noticed that it had at least a foot on her, again making her wonder why it had jumped at the sight of her.
"Do you have a name?" She asked. The camera pointed towards where its mouth would be if it was human and shook its finger.
"Oh," Emily said, realizing he couldn't talk. She had to find some way to understand it.
"Can you show me what your name is?" she asked.
It responded by bending down a scrawling something in the snow, Z-E-R-O
"Oh, Zero!" She exclaimed. Zero nodded enthusiastically, clearly happy.
"Nice to meet you, Zero, my name's Emily." Zero did a little bow to say hello.
"So, um, where did you come from?" Emily inquired. Zero paused for a moment, then gazed up at the sky towards the hole that he had fallen through, now closing. Even though he had no moving facial features, Emily could tell he was sad.
"Don't worry," Emily said, taking his hand, "I'm sure we can get you home. My friends can help."
She started leading Zero back to the camp, both of them oblivious that they were being watched...

Thinking Changes Our DN A Taking this to a deeper level, research shows that DNA actually changes shape according to our thoughts. As you think those negative thoughts about the future—the week ahead, what a person might say or do, even in the absence of the concrete stimulus—that toxic thinking will change your brain wiring in a negative direction and throw your mind and body into stress.[6] According to Dr. Herbert Benson, MD, president of Harvard Medical School’s Mind-Body Institute, negative thinking leads to stress, which affects our body’s natural healing capacities.[7] Toxic thinking wears down the brain.
The Institute of HeartMath, an internationally recognized, nonprofit research organization that helps people reduce stress, discusses an experiment titled “Local and Nonlocal Effects of Coherent Heart Frequencies on Conformational Changes of DNA.” This study showed that thinking and feeling anger, fear, and frustration caused DNA to change shape according to thoughts and feelings.
The DNA responded by tightening up and becoming shorter, switching off many DNA codes, which reduced quality expression. So we feel shut down by negative emotions, and our body feels this too. But here’s the great part: the negative shutdown or poor quality of the DNA codes was reversed by feelings of love, joy, appreciation, and gratitude! The researchers also found that HIV positive patients who had positive thoughts and feelings had 300,000 times more resistance to the disease than those without positive feelings.[8] So the takeaway here is that when we operate in our normal love design—which is being made in God’s image (Gen. 1:26)—we are able to change the shape of our DNA for the better.
So when we make a poor-quality decision—when we choose to engage toxic thoughts (for example, unforgiveness, bitterness, irritation, or feelings of not coping)—we change the DNA and subsequent genetic expression, which then changes the shape of our brain wiring in a negative direction. This immediately puts the brain into protection mode, and the brain translates these poor-quality, toxic thoughts as negative stress. This stress then manifests in our bodies. But the most exciting part of this study was the hope it demonstrated because the positive attitude, the good choice, rewired everything back to the original healthy positive state. These scientists basically proved we can renew our minds.Dr Leaf

Family Dentistry Services: This is a comprehensive package that includes basic dental care for children and adults. It includes regular checkups, oral hygiene instruction, fluoride treatment, and check-ups for cavities. The package also includes teeth whitening and gum treatment if required.
Dental Implants: This procedure helps to replace missing teeth with artificial ones that look like natural teeth. It is one of the most advanced dental procedures available today because it allows you to eat normally even after having the implant placed in your mouth. Dental implants are made using a metal framework that is fused with human bone using a special process called osseointegration which helps them stay in place firmly without causing any pain or discomfort while eating or speaking.
Cosmetic Dentistry: Cosmetic dentistry is the art of improving the appearance and health of your smile. It can be used to create new white teeth, change the color of your existing teeth, restore natural tooth enamel after major dental procedures, and improve gum health. The goal of cosmetic dentistry is to make your smile more beautiful and healthy.
Root Canal Treatment: is a procedure that involves the removal of the nerve and pulp from the tooth. The nerve and pulp are the parts that are damaged in a root canal procedure. The treatment is painless because local anesthetics are used to numb the area, but it does require a general anesthetic for patients who have not had any dental work before. The dentist will numb the area with Novocain and then make a small hole in the tooth using a special tool known as an endodontic drill or drill bit. After making this hole, they will remove all of the affected nerves and pulp using special instruments such as forceps or curettes. Once they have removed all of these structures they will fill in the hole using gutta percha (a material made from natural rubber). If necessary, they may also fill in any remaining damage with amalgam or composite resin materials.
Invisible Braces: Invisible braces are a great way to get the perfect smile. They are invisible so you can wear them all day, every day, and not have to worry about how they look. Many different types of invisible braces can be used, some with metal and others without.
The main benefit of wearing invisible braces is that it will make your teeth feel better. The metal on the brackets and wires in traditional braces can hurt your teeth as they rub against them all day long. When you wear invisible braces, there is no contact at all between the brackets and your teeth, which means less irritation for you and less damage to your teeth.

Denish Shadevan a.k.a. Danny Devan Pleads Guilty
Tumblr media
Denish Shadevan, a.k.a.  Danny Devan, Pleads Guilty to wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and money laundering. Greenbelt, MD (STL.News) Denish Sahadevan, a/k/a “Danny Devan,” age 31, of Potomac, Maryland, pleaded guilty today to wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and money laundering, relating to his scheme to defraud lenders and the Small Business Administration (“SBA”) of more than $1.2 million in Paycheck Protection Program (“PPP”) loans and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (“EIDL”). The guilty plea was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron; Special Agent in Charge Thomas J. Sobocinski of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Baltimore Field Office; and John T. Perez, Special Agent in Charge, Headquarters Operations, Office of Inspector General for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (“CARES”) Act was a federal law enacted in March 2020 to provide emergency financial assistance to Americans suffering from the economic effects caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Financial assistance offered through the CARES Act included forgivable loans to small businesses for job retention and certain other expenses, through the PPP, as well as EIDLs to help small businesses meet their financial obligations, both administered through the SBA. According to the plea agreement, beginning in about March 2020, Sahadevan submitted EIDL and PPP applications on behalf of four Maryland entities that he controlled, often creating fraudulent and fabricated documents, such as tax forms and bank statements, to be used in the applications.  In addition, Sahadevan used the identifying information belonging to a tax preparer that he knew, without that person’s knowledge or agreement, to legitimize the fabricated tax forms he created and submitted. Specifically, Sahadevan admitted that he used his home in Rockville, Maryland, to create the fabricated documents and electronically apply for EIDL and PPP loans.  Sahadevan applied for approximately 71 PPP loans totaling approximately $941,794.75 and successfully obtained approximately $146,000 in PPP benefits.  Sahadevan applied for and received eight EIDLs totaling $283,900.  On the EIDL loans, Sahadevan induced his father into becoming a co-signer for the loan, then forged his father’s signature on the loan application.  Sahadevan’s father would not have agreed to sponsor the loan had he known of its fraudulent nature and contents. As detailed in the plea agreement, Sahadevan caused the fraud proceeds to be deposited into bank accounts he opened specifically for that purpose, then laundered the funds by engaging in several monetary transactions, including purchasing and trading securities and cryptocurrency, settling personal debts, and making payments to his girlfriend. In addition, between December 16, 2021, and January 10, 2022, Sahadevan applied to a financial institution for a $1,336,000 loan to purchase a property in Potomac, Maryland.  In the loan application, Sahadevan failed to disclose the $283,900 he owed to the United States for the EIDL benefits he fraudulently received.  Relying on Sahedevan’s representations, the financial institution approved the loan, which was used to purchase the Potomac property. On February 24, 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Sahadevan’s Potomac residence and recovered multiple electronic devices, a can containing approximately 18 driver’s licenses belonging to other individuals, what appeared to be a gold physical Bitcoin in a black case, and approximately $17,043 in cash found in a suitcase in a bedroom closet.  Cash and Bitcoin constitute proceeds of the fraud scheme. As part of his plea agreement, Sahadevan will forfeit the cash and Bitcoin seized during the search on February 24, 2023, and will be required to pay restitution and a forfeiture money judgment of at least $429,906. Sahadevan faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison for wire fraud; a maximum of 10 years in federal prison for money laundering; and a mandatory sentence of two years in federal prison, consecutive to any other sentence imposed for aggravated identity theft.  U.S. District Judge Deborah L. Boardman has scheduled sentencing for September 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. The District of Maryland Strike Force is one of three strike forces established throughout the United States by the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate and prosecute COVID-19 fraud, including fraud relating to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (“CARES”) Act.  The CARES Act was designed to provide emergency financial assistance to Americans suffering the economic effects caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.  The strike forces focus on large-scale, multi-state pandemic relief fraud perpetrated by criminal organizations and transnational actors.  The strike forces are interagency law enforcement efforts, using prosecutor-led and data analyst-driven teams designed to identify and bring to justice those who stole pandemic relief funds. Using temporary flexible rods for single-stage correction of severe scoliosis and kyphosis
In February our group published a paper in the Journal Orthopedics describing a technique for single-stage correction of severe scoliosis using temporary flexible rods.  Jeffrey Kwong was the first author and did the majority of the work for this when he was a medical student at Stanford.  He is now a resident at UCSF.  Research can sometimes take a long time to come to fruition. A version of this project was initiated several years ago by one of my partners, Kali Tileston, during her fellowship and then we continued to gather data and work together to bring it to its current state
This paper describes a technique that my senior partner, Larry Rinsky, developed for treating severe scoliosis and kyphosis. When we do a spinal fusion for scoliosis or kyphosis, our number one goal is to safely halt the progression of the problem so it does not further affect a child's health. We are also trying to correct the deformity so that the child can have a balanced spine and the highest level of function possible. With larger and stiffer scoliosis curves achieving correction safely and effectively is more likely to require advanced techniques. With these curves we typically use a higher implant density (more screws, bands or wires) but even then as we leverage those implants, they can fail.  One way to deal with this is to try to correct the deformity in 2 stages, first doing an anterior surgery or perhaps placing the patient in halo gravity traction before a definitive posterior spinal fusion. These approaches are effective but they take time and expose the patient to multiple surgical episodes.  For some patients it is better to get it all done at once.
Dr. Rinsky started using flexible rods to slowly achieve correction without putting too much stress on the screws.  In pediatric orthopedics we often use small diameter flexible titanium rods to treat long bone fractures.  These are readily available in most large children's hospitals and common sizes are smaller than the rods that we typically use for spinal fusion.  The technique is described in full in the paper; after exposing the spine and placing anchors, Dr. Rinsky would place 1 or 2 flexible rods in the anchors to gradually correct the curve and then sequentially replace them with the larger stiffer final rods, allowing him to get the correction in an iterative process.  He taught this technique to me and his practice partners and we all use it from time to time with larger curves.
In the paper we describe a cohort of 34 patients with spinal deformity that had treatment using this method.  We found it to be safe and effective in this group.  Hopefully this paper will equip surgeons with one more tool that they can use to safely take care of patients with spinal deformity.

ORTHODONTIA
Tumblr media
Orthodontia or Orthodontic treatment, in simple terms, refers to Braces.
Many people have crowded or crooked teeth or forwardly placed teeth (malaligned teeth) and is one thing that can completely alter a person’s appearance and aesthetics. Orthodontic treatment will straighten the teeth or move them into a better position. This can improve their appearance and the way the teeth bite together, while also making them easier to clean.
When is the best time to get Orthodontic correction?
The best time is generally during childhood or adolescence, but adults can get orthodontic treatment too - and more and more are doing so. Age is less important than having the right number of teeth and sound bone health. In younger children it may be necessary to wait for enough teeth to come through before starting treatment.
Adults and children are becoming increasingly particular about how they look and we are here to accommodate their every request.
At Arasu Dental Care, we offer the best solutions for malaligned teeth ranging from traditional metal braces, Ceramic braces, Metal Self Ligating, Ceramic Self Ligating braces as well as Clear Aligners (invisible braces).
METAL BRACES
Metal or traditional braces are the most common type of braces world-wide and have been around for over 100 years now. In the past, braces were very bulky and noticeable. Luckily, braces today are nothing like what they were 100 years ago. Advances in innovation and technology have made braces:
Smaller
Faster
More Comfortable
More Effective
Metal braces are most popular among children and adolescent patients. They work by applying the braces to the teeth and connecting them with a wire. The wire is tied to the braces using elastic ties, which come in an array colors to choose from. To move the teeth, the orthodontist makes adjustments to the wire at your appointments every 4-6 weeks.

22 Wires "May Have Already Broken" Before Gujarat Bridge Collapsed: Report
These findings are part of the 'Preliminary Report on Morbi Bridge Incident' submitted by the five-member SIT.
Tumblr media
Morbi: The Gujarat government-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) has found in its preliminary probe that corrosion on nearly half of the wires on a cable and welding of old suspenders with new ones were some of the major faults that led to the collapse of the suspension bridge in Morbi last year in which 135 people were killed.
These findings are part of the 'Preliminary Report on Morbi Bridge Incident' submitted by the five-member SIT in December 2022. The report was recently shared with the Morbi Municipality by the state Urban Development Department.
Ajanta Manufacturing Limited (Oreva Group) was responsible for the operation and maintenance of the British-era suspension bridge on the Machchu river that collapsed on October 30 last year. The SIT had found several lapses in repairs, maintenance and operation of the bridge.
IAS officer Rajkumar Beniwal, IPS officer Subhash Trivedi, a secretary and a chief engineer from the state Roads and Building Department and a professor of structural engineering were members of the SIT.
The SIT noted that of the two main cables of the bridge, built by the erstwhile rulers in 1887 over river Machchhu, one cable was having issues of corrosion and nearly half of its wires "may be already broken" even before the cable snapped on October 30 evening.
According to the SIT, the main cable on the upstream side of the river snapped, leading to the tragedy.
Each cable was formed by seven strands, each comprising seven steel wires. Total 49 wires were clubbed together in seven strands to form this cable, the SIT report said.
"It was observed that out of the 49 wires (of that cable), 22 were corroded, which indicates that those wires may have already broken before the incident. The remaining 27 wires recently broke," the SIT said in its report.
The SIT also found that during the renovation work, "old suspenders (steel rods which connect the cable with the platform deck) were welded with the new suspenders. Hence the behaviour of suspenders changed. In these types of bridges, single rod suspenders should be used to bear the load". Notably, the Morbi Municipality, without the approval of the general board, had awarded the contract to maintain and operate the bridge to Oreva Group (Ajanta Manufacturing Limited), which had closed the bridge in March 2022 for renovation and opened it on October 26 without any prior approval or inspection.
According to the SIT, there were nearly 300 persons on the bridge at the time of collapse, which was "far more" than the load bearing capacity of the bridge. It, however, said the actual capacity of the bridge will be confirmed by laboratory reports.
The probe report also pointed out that replacing individual wooden planks with an aluminium deck also played a role in the collapse.
"Walking structure was made up of rigid aluminium panels instead of flexible wooden planks. If there were individual wooden planks (which were there before renovation), the number of casualties could have been lower. Moreover, no load test or structure test was conducted before opening the bridge," it added.
The aluminium honeycomb panels were fixed without any gap in between, which makes the deck less flexible to deform in its own plane, said the SIT, adding that the use of aluminium could have increased the overall weight of the bridge too.
Morbi police have already arrested ten accused, including Oreva Group's MD Jaysukh Patel, under IPC sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 336 (act which endangers human life), 337 (causing hurt to any person by doing any rash or negligent act) and under 338 (causing grievous hurt by doing rash or negligent act).

The Precautionary Principle - A Realistic Solution to Cell Phone Radiation?
On September 14th, 2009, the U.S. Senate convened for hearings about the Health Effects of Cell Phones. Among people who testified was Dr. John Bucher, the associate director in the National Toxicology Program in the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. He stated, "There happen to be some hints recently that there are an increase in brain cancers in people who have used these cellular communication devices for a number of years." Dr. Bucher's agency is funding a big scale test--but this is not on people--on rodents. These animals will be given the sort of exposure that humans get when using cellular phones. Unfortunately, results defintely won't be in prior to the year 2013. Will that be too late? Another expert who testified was Dr. Siegal Sadetzki, MD. She is the Director with the Cancer and Radiation Epidemiology Unit, with the Gertner Institute in Israel. Dr. Sadetzki has recently published the outcomes of the study, in which she and her colleagues found a web link between cellphone use and cancer. According to that study, those that frequently use cellular phones on a certain side of their head are 50% much more likely than non-cell-phone-users to build up a tumor inside the salivary gland on that side with the head. In her testimony she said, "What worried me was that, inside my study, I saw consistent good results and so they always appeared high is biological plausibility." These results appeared on the same side with the head in which the phone occured, they appeared to the heavy users, and so they appeared in rural areas compared to cities, in which you might expect mobile phone cancers to be higher. Dr. Sadetzki concluded her speech by advising the "precautionary principle." Senator Arlen Specter, D-Pennsylvania, agreed, "Precautions are not an awful idea," he said. In regard to mobile phone use, the precautionary principle suggests practices such as employing a wired headset instead of a Bluetooth earpiece, and enabling the speaker function rather than holding the device in your ear. In addition, rather than storing the cellular phone in your pocket, keep the device from your body between calls. Paramount on the precautionary principle is usually to limit the usage of cell phones whenever possible. Make fewer calls and earn shorter ones. Choose a mobile phone with low-radiation and limit children's cell phone usage, since their brain cells may be more sensitive to the effects of cell phone radiation. The precautionary principle has good intentions. But, it's tantamount to telling a smoker that smoking may be dangerous and that she should smoke fewer cigarettes. We now know for sure that smoking is life-threatening, but it doesn't stop people from smoking cigarettes. Cell phones along with other handheld devices are rapidly learning to be a a part of our culture. Cell phones are everywhere. They are used by 87 percent of Americans and over 4 billion people worldwide. Students in senior high school and now even grade young children are utilizing mobile phones to go to each other, and text messages has become a social norm. We are dependent on mobile phones. If you happen to be concerned with cellular phone radiation, if you feel the precautionary principle just isn't enough or simply just impractical for you personally or your family, there are extra things you can do to guard yourself. New technologies are emerging to shield the electromagnetic radiation (EMR) emitted from mobile phones and also other electronics. Certain chips can be that come with mobile phones and earpieces to counteract the EMR, and special paint coated on your own walls can limit EMR from adjacent apartments seeping into yours. These shields may help you in case you stay to their rear. Those who want to roam can wear special headbands, clothing, hats, gloves, and pendants designed to shield the wearer against radiofrequencies and EMR. However, appears to be environment of increasingly higher EMR is usually to end up being the norm, don't we owe it to ourselves being a species to find ways not just in hide from EMR, but accommodate it? Is it possible to take charge of our own evolution and be gradually more immune on the increasing levels of electromagnetic radiation? Through a recent breakthrough in energy medicine, an all-natural remedy continues to be developed that suggests this could be possible. By strengthening https://energymedicineaustralia.com.au/ -giving energy field that exists across the body and every individual cell, this remedy enhances the body's natural potential to deal with electromagnetic radiation, and helps the cells adjust to it, build capacity it, and in many cases develop natural immunity to it. For individuals who simply cannot live without our cell phones, and that practice cell phone precautions whenever possible, but who feel we want something more, you will find options to shield and protect. Now additionally, there is a possibility to adapt, evolve, and be sure our survival over the twenty-first century.
