„Dope! I’ll send you a friend request later when I have wifi at the hospital.” Macau never had any problems making friends among his peers. He was popular at school and on his soccer team, but none of his friends knew about his family’s business. Everyone had always thought it wise to keep that a low profile, so his friendships rarely went deeper than surface level. He never had a best friend besides his brother. Vegas had been his role model ever since he’d been a toddler. Not so much because of the things he had to do for their father but because in Macau’s eyes Vegas was effortlessly cool and excellent at everything.
“I was going nuts. I came home from a friend’s house to find two of uncle Korn’s bodyguards packing my bags and telling me I had to come here with them. No one even told me why or what happened. And then they brought me to uncle’s office and said that Pa was dead and Vegas at the hospital and that I had to stay here now!” Hands balled into fists at his side. Those moments had been the worst in the boy’s life. He hated the uncertainty and he would never forgive his uncle for not allowing him to go to his brother immediately. No, they had practically imprisoned him in his room for three days until Pete brought him to Vegas. And then they had made a big farce of Pa’s funeral where he had to play the grieving son, while his killers stood around speaking their condolences. But Porchay’s offer put a smile back on his face and lightened the grim expression. “Pete usually brings food to the hospital. But thanks for the offer.”
“You’ll get used to nobody telling nothing!” He replied half joke, half serious. No one had ever told Macau what really went on around him. He had to make his own assumptions about the way everyone was behaving. By the number of bodyguards running around the compound. By the expression on his father’s face and by the bruises on Vegas’. Over the years he’d become pretty good at assessing the state of relations between minor and major families. It had become important for his survival. “You’ll just lose sleep trying to figure everything out. Vegas never tells me details. It just means he cares and wants to protect me.” He shrugged. Then he wrapped an arm around Chay. “And meanwhile Macau Senpai is gonna teach you all his tricks on how to read the fuckers around here! My cousins are not as hard to figure out as they have you believe.” He winked.

"dope!" chay mimicked, excited to be able to finally have made a friend around his age in this place and yet he fell silent again. something about this place just kept intimidating him. he nodded along to the boys words. it's hard when you only have one family member left and that turns out to be your brother. although chay and porsche were quite different, it felt like to him that macau and vegas were a lot like them too, just that they grew up similarly while chay had the softer version of a childhood and visible love. maybe chay could sneak to the hospital, after all pete and his brother did get along well, and since he did already considered macau his friend it would only be nice to show up to macau's older brother wishing him well, right ?
" can you take me with you next time you visit your brother ? " at least if he'd agreed, he could get out of here for a while. and pete would be there too. he knew the fronts were not on quite good terms but it did have nothing to do with him and maybe macau would notice that chay only meant well with that. he noticed that trust had to be earned in this place no matter who you were so maybe that could be a starting point ? if that was even the right way to think of it? was it even necessary for him to do that just so he could have a friend in this dark place ? maybe not, but he was just a simple boy doing nice things for others. it was in his nature.
chay was taken a back for just a moment when the arm came to rest on his shoulders just to be surprised by the way of speech he heard. he guessed if you grew up like this, you were surrounded by such words and just threw them around easily like it's nothing. he grinned, knowing he'd be in good hands. " thank you, i'll be a good student senpai. " with that he just laughed, a bit of the stress taken from him, finally. it was a little relieve knowing he could laugh in this place too. " you think ? maybe i am just easy to fool.." chay spoke quietly, unsure what else to say.
