I've seen a lot of shows with lackluster finale, but never has the finale of a show actively ruined the rest of the series for me like Watching and Dreaming

i just discovered your clawthorne sisters art, and oh my gosh i have so many feelings about them. your work is just making me remember how much i love these sisters. what were your thoughts about them post finale???
Oh my gosh thank you so much!!!!! Sorry it took me a million years to reply to this 😅
I think there’s...a lot these two have to talk about. Lilith has a lot of explaining and apologizing to do. She told Luz her backstory (and by extension, King, who was trapped nearby) but Eda still doesn’t actually know why Lilith cursed her.
From Eda’s POV, she grew up adoring her sister and wanting to do everything with her, only for one competition to rip them apart and change Eda’s life forever. Eda turned into a monster in front of dozens of spectators, was immediately treated as a horrific beast despite so many people in the crowd knowing who she is, and then ran for her life in a painful and terrifying new form. And her sister didn’t follow her. The betrayal she must’ve felt at her big sister not coming to help her when she was at her most vulnerable I think only drives that wedge between them further.
We don’t know the aftermath of that first transformation. We also don’t know the properties of the curse, why her transformation was so delayed from the time it was cast to when she first transformed (besides dramatic narrative effect of course); there’s about 20-30 years between the curse first being cast and where they end the first season. We don’t know how often they spoke to each other following that day.
We know Lilith is selfish. Despite literally ruining her sister’s life for the foreseeable future, she still kept at her job under the assumption that Belos would heal Eda rather than looking into any other avenues. And maybe she did look into other avenues! But she clearly didn’t pursue them enough by the time we meet her in the show. She’s long since settled into her role of Coven Leader and does her job to, I dunno, stay in Belos’ good graces? All of this in the hopes that if she does her job well and proves her allegiance to emperor Belos enough he’ll grant her wish like he’s Santa Claus?
We still don’t know what the Day of Unity is or what it entails, but clearly it’s something Belos is anxious about. It sounds like he didn’t start really cracking down on Eda’s capture until the beginning of the summer. Prior to that it seems it was a task more than an order. Did it take 20-30 years for Belos to needle his way into Lilith’s brain to figure out what her wish was that he could exploit? Did Lilith just not mention it? How hard did Lilith actually work to get Belos to promise to heal her sister?
She’s clearly remorseful in the finale, but her first appearance in the show during Covention? She admitted that she didn’t know whether or not Eda was even still alive. She was surprised to see her at all. After their stalemate in that last scene, Lilith is muttering to herself about how Eda “makes it so hard to want to help her” like excuse me bitch???? To want to fix your goddamn fuckup????? That completely ruined your sister’s entire life????? You’re struggling to want to help??????
Eda loves her sister and that I think is going to cloud her judgement in the second season. Luz, an outsider to their sibling relationship, knows the full backstory to Eda’s curse now as well as having been witness to their few interactions since she first arrived, and is not impressed with Lilith. Eda I think just wants her big sister back. We’ve seen as much with Covention and Sense and Insensitivity that Eda’s nothing but playful with her sister. Even when they’re fighting, it’s with love, at least on Eda’s end.
With Lilith, everything is means to an end, a goal to reach. She shows her love more freely towards Eda only after Eda shows affection or vulnerability first. But until Eda shows her sisterly side, Lilith is closed off and indifferent. She didn’t care when she saw how upset her sister was when she kidnapped Luz. She didn’t care that her sister was suffering physical pain in an attempt to save her apprentice. She didn’t even seem mildly perturbed at the thought of murderering a child in cold blood as long as it meant she would reach her goal. She watched her sister suffer terrible pain and be brought to her knees expending her own magic, the magic that keeps her from the horribly painful transformation into the owl beast, and didn’t even blink an eye. In fact, I think she was smiling.
Now I don’t know if this means she doesn’t actually care about Eda or if all she wants is to atone for the wrong she did in the first place so she can move on with her life, or what. But Lilith has some major empathy issues and extremely questionable morals, even for the Demon Realm.
I hope that season 2 brings a distrustful Luz that forces Lilith to tell Eda the truth and to actually look at her actions and feel true remorse and not just brushing off all of her actions as means to an end. I want Eda to get mad at Lilith. I want her to be ready to rip Lilith into shreds because of her thoughtless actions throughout both of their lives, similarly to how she acted when they were about to petrified.
I don’t actually want Eda to harm Lilith in any way though. I want Eda to simply give up on her. I want Lilith to be truly and properly alone so she has time to think about what she’s done and how she’s ruined both her and her sister’s lives. Eda’s not there to be her sister anymore, in fact she’s barely more than a housemate because unlike her sister, Eda isn’t heartless.
I don’t know if I want Luz to ever forgive Lilith. But I do know I want to see King making an effort to get the two sisters talking again. He stepped in the way before Eda could murder Lilith. He knows both sides of the story. Luz has been specifically traumatized, but we don’t know anything about King and his history. I’m super curious to see how the King of Demons was willing to spare the life of someone that ruined his friend’s life, his family’s life.
Season 2 is going to be tense and I’m so fucking psyched
