International Jazz Day Celebrations at antiSOCIAL, Mumbai
This weekend, celebrate International Jazz Day at Mumbai’s antiSOCIAL, curated by city-based guitarist Adil Manuel. This year’s lineup includes Manuel’s own big band collective as well as singer-songwriter duo Second Sight performing a full band set, experimental outfit Dark Circle Factory, the ARM Trio, vocalist Kokum, hip-hopper Shah Rule and more including Rimi Nique, Anubha Kaul, Rahul Wadhwani, Emmanuel Simon and Keshia B. The event is set to showcase fresh new talent, contemporary ensembles and collaborations that include a plethora of sounds encompassing everything from swing and bebop, to R&B, funk and hip-hop.
Louiz Banks returns to NCPA, Mumbai
After 10 years of International Jazz Day gigs at Mumbai’s National Center of Performing Arts (NCPA), legendary pianist Louiz Banks is back once more to curate an 11th edition. The show will feature a huge array of artists spread over a span of three hours and include jazz standards to fusion songs performed by the likes of Banks himself, singer-guitarist Gary Lawyer, the Sassy Songbirds, the Rajeev Raja Combine, the Calcutta Collective, vocalist Vasundhara Vee and others.

New Delhi community radio station Boxout.fm has teamed up with Wild City, Gatecrash, Art Unites and Jazz in India to put together a live music experience showcasing exciting homegrown and international jazz artists. Chase checking account balance off? Bank says ‘technical issue’ was to blame

If the balance on your Chase checking account was incorrect late Saturday or early Sunday, you weren’t alone.
Chase customers across the nation posted on social media about finding errors in their accounts, including erroneous charges and lost funds.
In a tweet Sunday, Chase said a technical issue was to blame and that it was resolved as of 9 a.m. Eastern time.
“We know some customers reporting seeing incorrect balances in their checking account overnight. This was caused by a technical issue that delayed updates on what displayed on Chase Mobile & Chase Online,” Chase said in a statement on Twitter. “We resolved this issue as of 9AM ET and accounts now show current balances.”

On Sunday morning, there was an alert on the Chase mobile banking screen that said parts of the app weren’t available, Newsweek reported.
“Parts of the app aren’t available right now. Please try again later,” the alert said. “Thanks for your patience.”
Chase Bank is a subsidiary of banking giant JPMorgan Chase.

Awarding and honouring artistic and technical excellence in Hindi music, Smule Mirchi Music Awards (MMA) is known for its tough selection processes and signature jury verdicts. On the 19th of February, 2020, every musician in India will hold her/his breath to know who will bag the winning titles. It’s a matter of sheer pride to win a title and then the limelight follows.
The awards this year will be given in 19 different categories. For evaluation, there were 800+ songs across film and non-film categories. Besides this, there will be three special awards viz. Lifetime Achievement, Outstanding contribution to Hindi music industry and Golden Era Album 1959, which are decided by the Grand Jury.

The selection process has been very stringent so that truly the best singer holds the trophy. To make the rounds attain the highest excellence, jury members for screening and Grand Jury are entirely different. Each member provides their point of view of why the title holder deserves to move to the next round.
To add to the credibility, E&Y, which is a leading auditing firm has been the Process Advisors for MMA since its inception. They followed a set pattern of three-stage process for evaluating the entries received and facilitating winner determination:
Stage 1 – Design the awards process and review the list of Hindi movies released within the eligibility period. All the songs of the movies released within the eligibility period are considered for evaluation.
Stage 2 – An independent set of screening panel members evaluate the shortlisted entries to determine the top 15 in each category. The shortlisted songs are presented to the Grand jury members to determine top 5 finalists in each category.
Stage 3 – Top 5 finalists in each category are evaluated by the grand jury to determine winners in each category.
The E&Y Process, followed by the gruelling selection process of the Screening and Grand Jury members indeed makes the MMA one of the most authentic awards in the industry.

Transcendence 2.0: Louiz Banks Pays Tribute To Oscar Peterson
Louiz Banks is India's pre-eminent Jazz Pianist, Composer, Film and Record Producer. He is also a Grammy nominee and fondly called the 'Godfather of Indian Jazz'. 'Transcendence' is an annual event, that pays tribute to Legends of Indian & Western Jazz Music. This year’s Transcendence 2.0 saw two modern day Indian legends, Grammy nominee Louiz Banks-Piano and Dr. Mysore Manjunath-Violin pay tribute to their respective idols Jazz legend Oscar Peterson and Carnatic legend T. Chowdiah. The concert featuring the music of the 'Vidwan of the Violin', fusing with the artistry of the 'Maharaja of the Piano', proved to be a stupendous success Louiz Banks and Dr. Mysore Manjunath-Violin were accompanied by Gianluca Liberatore-Bass Guitar, Vidwan Bangalore Amrit-Khanjira, Gino Banks-Drums and Pt. Yogesh Samsi-Tabla and together they took the audience to a heightened level of consciousness with their music, culminating in a joyous transcendent state. . Louiz Banks picked Oscar Peterson, in his words 'The answer to that question will cover a few volumes ... but in short... because Oscar Peterson is unanimously acknowledged as one of the greatest exponents of Jazz Piano..and he continues to inspire all students of Jazz Piano. My own switch to Jazz Piano took place when my father introduced me to Oscar Peterson... that was the turning point in my musical studies and pursuits. Hence I pay homage to the greatness of Oscar Peterson" The first segment of the concert began with the lovely tribute by Louiz Banks to Oscar Peterson with some good old instrumental jazz popularized by him. The second segment of the concert began with tribute by Vidwan Shri. Dr. Mysore Manjunathji to T.Chowdiah with the traditional Tyagaraja Kriti ‘Nyanamu Sakaratha’ in Purvikalyani. The finale was specially composed by Louiz Banks called ‘Reunion’ loosely based on Raga Chandrakauns. The finale also had Gino Banks, Pt.Yogesh Samsi and Vidwan Bangalore Amrit, showing their respective class and talent separately and then sparring amiably with each other on their instruments. Pradeep Joseph from Raga to Rock said 'the concert was like sitting at the crossroads, where the Music of Chennai and New Orleans met'. He has been singularly instrumental in bringing a high standard of Jazz performance for jazz devotees in India. Gianluca Liberatore-Bass Guitar, A bass player born in Palermo, Italy. After Graduating at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, he moved to Mumbai in 2015, where he works as Dean of Academics at the True School of Music. Gianluca has performed alongside Ann Hampton Callaway, Ted Rosenthal, Loretta Holloway, Tulio Mourao, Ronal Douglas, SOI and many others. Gino Banks-Drums. He is the son of Louiz Banks, India’s legendary jazz pianist and composer. Gino is a versatile musician, this trait leads him to perform and record with artists and bands of all types of genres. Vidwan Dr. Mysore Manjunath-Western & Carnatic Violin, is a globally-renowned violinist. A child prodigy who matured quickly to emerge as one of the Top Ranking Violinists in India today. Acclaimed as a wonder kid with astonishing musicianship, Manjunath has established himself as one of the outstanding Carnatic Instrumentalists. Pt.
