#Lion: The Round the World Race With Lion New Zealand
Text
The first few chapters of Lion talking about the Blakes delivering the boat from New Zealand to England with baby Sarah-Jane onboard are so adorable. They made her a swing in the cabin and she got to see the Galapagos tortoises and swim in the Panama Canal! And Peter and Pippa dressed up to give her a (very gentle) line-crossing ceremony! And then as an adult she got to sail on Lion again and do the Sydney-Hobart and that’s how she met her husband!

Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles
(Liturgical Colour: Red)
First Reading
Acts of the Apostles 12:1-11
'Now I know the Lord really did save me from Herod'
King Herod started persecuting certain members of the Church. He beheaded James the brother of John, and when he saw that this pleased the Jews he decided to arrest Peter as well. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread, and he put Peter in prison, assigning four squads of four soldiers each to guard him in turns. Herod meant to try Peter in public after the end of Passover week. All the time Peter was under guard the Church prayed to God for him unremittingly.
On the night before Herod was to try him, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, fastened with double chains, while guards kept watch at the main entrance to the prison. Then suddenly the angel of the Lord stood there, and the cell was filled with light. He tapped Peter on the side and woke him. ‘Get up!’ he said ‘Hurry!’ – and the chains fell from his hands. The angel then said, ‘Put on your belt and sandals.’ After he had done this, the angel next said, ‘Wrap your cloak round you and follow me.’ Peter followed him, but had no idea that what the angel did was all happening in reality; he thought he was seeing a vision. They passed through two guard posts one after the other, and reached the iron gate leading to the city. This opened of its own accord; they went through it and had walked the whole length of one street when suddenly the angel left him. It was only then that Peter came to himself. ‘Now I know it is all true’ he said. ‘The Lord really did send his angel and has saved me from Herod and from all that the Jewish people were so certain would happen to me.’

R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 33(34):2-9

Second Reading
2 Timothy 4:6-8,17-18
All there is to come now is the crown of righteousness reserved for me
My life is already being poured away as a libation, and the time has come for me to be gone. I have fought the good fight to the end; I have run the race to the finish; I have kept the faith; all there is to come now is the crown of righteousness reserved for me, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that Day; and not only to me but to all those who have longed for his Appearing.
The Lord stood by me and gave me power, so that through me the whole message might be proclaimed for all the pagans to hear; and so I was rescued from the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from all evil attempts on me, and bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Gospel Acclamation
Matthew 16:18
Alleluia, alleluia!
You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church.
And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it.
Alleluia!
Gospel
Matthew 16:13-19
You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say he is John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ ‘But you,’ he said ‘who do you say I am?’ Then Simon Peter spoke up, ‘You are the Christ,’ he said ‘the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘Simon son of Jonah, you are a happy man! Because it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven. So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered loosed in heaven.’
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Monday, Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time
(Liturgical Colour: Green)
First Reading
Amos 2:6-10,13-16
Because of your crimes I will crush you into the ground
The Lord says this:
For the three crimes, the four crimes, of Israel
I have made my decree and will not relent:
because they have sold the virtuous man for silver
and the poor man for a pair of sandals,
because they trample on the heads of ordinary people
and push the poor out of their path,
because father and son have both resorted to the same girl,
profaning my holy name,
because they stretch themselves out by the side of every altar
on clothes acquired as pledges,
and drink the wine of the people they have fined
in the house of their god...
Yet it was I who overthrew the Amorites when they attacked,
men tall as cedars and strong as oaks,
I who destroyed them,
both fruit above ground
and root below.
It was I who brought you out of the land of Egypt
and for forty years led you through the wilderness
to take possession of the Amorite’s country.
See then how I am going to crush you into the ground
as the threshing-sledge crushes when clogged by straw;
flight will not save even the swift,
the strong man will find his strength useless,
the mighty man will be powerless to save himself.
The bowman will not stand his ground,
the fast runner will not escape,
the horseman will not save himself,
the bravest warriors will run away naked that day.
It is the Lord who speaks.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 49(50):16-23
R/ Mark this, you who never think of God.
‘How can you recite my commandments
and take my covenant on your lips,
you who despise my law
and throw my words to the winds?
R/ Mark this, you who never think of God.
‘You who see a thief and go with him;
who throw in your lot with adulterers,
who unbridle your mouth for evil
and whose tongue is plotting crime.
R/ Mark this, you who never think of God.
‘You who sit and malign your brother
and slander your own mother’s son.
You do this, and should I keep silence?
Do you think that I am like you?
R/ Mark this, you who never think of God.
‘Mark this, you who never think of God,
lest I seize you and you cannot escape;
a sacrifice of thanksgiving honours me
and I will show God’s salvation to the upright.’
R/ Mark this, you who never think of God.
Gospel Acclamation
John 8:12
Alleluia, alleluia!
I am the light of the world, says the Lord;
anyone who follows me will have the light of life.
Alleluia!
Or:
Psalm 94:8
Alleluia, alleluia!
Harden not your hearts today,
but listen to the voice of the Lord.
Alleluia!
Gospel
Matthew 8:18-22
The Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head
When Jesus saw the great crowds all about him he gave orders to leave for the other side. One of the scribes then came up and said to him, ‘Master, I will follow you wherever you go.’ Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’
Another man, one of his disciples, said to him, ‘Sir, let me go and bury my father first.’ But Jesus replied, ‘Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.’

'Very different' - Coaches and players on how the URC differs from Super Rugby
Tumblr media
4:28am, 30 September 2021 After the wake-up call of the first week the sharp learning curve the South African teams are on in the United Rugby Championship will steepen even further as the second round looks set to throw several of the varied challenges at them that make the new competition unique.ADVERTISEMENTThe Cell C Sharks will be the first South African team to play a URC game on a synthetic pitch as they travel to Glasgow to face the Glasgow Warriors on the Scotstoun 4G artificial surface on Saturday. The previous night the Vodacom Bulls, if the weather forecasts have it correct, are going to get a foretaste of what to expect later in the competition during the northern winter when they play in Galway, and it is going to be even tougher for the Stormers in Limerick 24 hours later.Winds of 30 kilometres per hour and rain are expected for the Bulls game, while there is an 80% chance of rain and winds occasionally gusting beyond 65km/hour at the time of the Thomond Park clash between the Stormers and home team Munster.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So there will have to be a game adjustment for those teams in addition to whatever else they absorbed and have internalised from their defeats to in the opening round of competition. And for the one successful SA team from the opening round, the Emirates Lions, there’s going to be a necessary tweak to game strategy as they move from Italy to the different challenge they will face playing in Wales as they face up to Scarlets on Friday night.Wing Yaw Penxe has played on the 4G surface before when he played PRO14 for the Southern Kings and says that he and his teammates are heading for a different experience to what they are used to when they play in Glasgow. But he says he is looking forward to the challenge posed by a quicker surface and therefore a quicker game.“The ball does travel quite a bit faster, and if it goes to ground won’t stick like on grass,” said Penxe. “Us as players will have to run a bit more and the game will be a bit faster as well. The ball really races when you let it bounce.”The pitch though isn’t the only variation to what they are used to that the Sharks can look forward to. They are also going to be playing for the first time against the more racy, high tempo Scottish playing style that they will also encounter when they play against Edinburgh later in the competition.ADVERTISEMENT“The two Scottish teams will bring a style that will be distinctively different from what we will experience playing against the other teams as they have been influenced by Scotland coach Gregor Townsend, who was of course attack coach of the British and Irish Lions,” said Sharks defence coach John McFarland.McFarland worked with Heyneke Meyer at both the Springboks and before that the Bulls, so he has experience of international rugby and Super Rugby. He reckons that being a defence coach in the URC is as challenging as it is in Super Rugby.“There’s not really much difference to be honest. If the opposition get into your 22 they will maul you and come at you around the corner, so you must not give the opposition penalties that will allow them to get into your 22,” said McFarland.Needless to say, after the Sharks conceded 17 penalties to just six in last week’s heavy defeat to Munster in Limerick, McFarland doesn’t have to think too hard about what his team needs to rectify. It’s all about discipline.ADVERTISEMENT“There were 12 entries into our 22 last week, all of them were from penalties, and Munster didn’t get into our 22 any other way,” he said. The Stormers’ defence coach Norman Laker isn’t as experienced or well traveled as McFarland is, but he has coached at Super Rugby level and doesn’t have much doubt that being an attack coach in URC will be more challenging than it is in the former competition.“It is very different. If you play against the five New Zealand franchises you know what you are going to get, they are going to be physical and throw the ball around a lot,” says Laker."When Eddie and I met, which was probably a month before the announcement…"– The soon-to-be 31-year-old Lions pick was left out of Jones' England squad for this week's camp #England #Saracens #Lionshttps://t.co/fPdY2gtH8t— RugbyPass (@RugbyPass) September 30, 2021“If you make a mistake, they make you pay, and it is the same with the Australian teams. The two countries play similar styles. So if you are on a four game tour, you can prep for pretty much the same playing style in all four games. In the URC there is much more variation.“Benetton, who we played in the first week, are a physical team who have changed a bit because of their coaching, now we go to Munster who have world class players and a different style with South African and Australian (Stephen Larkham) influence in their coaching staff. Then we go to Edinburgh, who will throw the Scottish style of playing at us. Then we close off at Newport against the Dragons and that will be our first exposure to Welsh rugby.”For the Stormers’ centre Ruhan Nel the challenge of playing against such varied and different styles and influences each week is exciting but also for him not entirely new as it is reminiscent of what he faced in his days as a key member of the successful Springbok Sevens team.“These are the games you want to play, you want to experience what it is like to play against the Ireland style and then the next week you are playing against a Scottish team, and it reminds me a lot of Sevens,” said Nel. “In Sevens you can play against England in one game and then in the next against Fiji. You’ve got to be adaptable and adjust quickly, and it will be the same in this competition.”Credit: URCSA

Top 20 Best Things to Do in North Island of New Zealand – I am Aileen
New Zealand is a coveted vacation spot by many and within the two most important landmasses that comprise it, it’s no information that the South Island (Te Waipounamu) sometimes steals a lot of the vacationers’ consideration — nevertheless, there are a number of superb issues to do in North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui) that everybody ought to NOT miss out on too!
Actually, aside from the standard elegant mixture of forests and mountains, the North Island is very recognized for its wild surf seashores (notably on the west coast and Coromandel Peninsula), geothermal exercise (as per Taupo and Rotorua’s wonders), cultural focus (provided that the Māori are primarily concentrated there), and LOTR origin (consider the well-known Hobbiton and Weta Workshop).
Clearly, there are an array of spectacular actions you could verify off of your bucket record right here. Actually, to make it an entire lot simpler for you, I’ve listed under the highest must-do’s and must-see’s on your New Zealand journey within the North Island! The most effective half…? You are able to do most of those epic actions if you happen to be a part of a street journey journey with Wild Kiwi!

Steinlager 2: On board Sir Peter Blake’s refitted Whitbread champion
Steinlager 2 was famously skippered by the late Sir Peter Blake to win the 1989/90 Whitbread Round the World Race, and is now owned by the New Zealand Sailing Trust. Nigel Sharp steps on board

In 22 May 1990, Steinlager 2 – skippered by Peter Blake and crewed by 14 fellow New Zealanders – crossed the finish line off Southampton to win the fifth Whitbread Round the World Race, with an overall time almost a day and a half quicker than the next boat.
Having dominated the race from beginning to end, Steinlager was first to finish and the winner on corrected time of all six legs: an unprecedented and unsurpassed feat in Whitbread/Volvo history. Twenty-three boats took part in that race. Whereas in the early Whitbread years many competitors considered it more of an adventure than a race, by the fifth edition they were taking it very seriously indeed.
Steinlager 2 was designed by Bruce Farr with significant input from Blake, who was able to draw on his own experience having taken part in all four previous Whitbread races. Farr initially produced a ‘base’ design following tank testing at the Wolfson Unit, the costs of which were shared between four syndicates.

Four designs were then developed to suit the different needs of each syndicate to create Steinlager 2, Fisher & Paykel (another Kiwi entry, skippered by Grant Dalton), The Card and Merit.
It was initially intended that they would all be sloop rigged but, as this race would include more downwind sailing than the previous races, Blake asked Farr to investigate the relative speed potential of a ketch. Farr’s research revealed that a ketch had potential to get around more quickly – but Blake then discovered that Dalton also favoured a ketch.
Blake went one stage further by suggesting that a fractional ketch might have a rating advantage over a masthead ketch and he persuaded a reluctant Farr to alter Steinlager’s design again.
As it turned out, Steinlager 2 nearly never existed. After the pre-preg composite hull was completed in the autumn of 1988 it was found to have delamination problems that were so catastrophic it had to be rejected and disposed of.
But thanks to the unequivocal support of the sponsors a new hull was built (often referred to as Steinlager 2b), and just 17 weeks later Auckland’s Southern Pacific Boatyard launched the completed boat.
After five months of sea trials – sometimes with Fisher & Paykel as a sparring partner – Steinlager 2, which by now had acquired the nickname ‘the Big Red’, was shipped to Europe. She took part in the Fastnet Race, winning just two minutes ahead of Fisher & Paykel.

Drastic early days of broken boats and high drama in Whitbread Round the World Race
This year is the 40th anniversary of the round the world race, now the Volvo Ocean Race. Barry Pickthall remembers…
Steinlager’s winning ways continued with the Whitbread Race, though the first leg half-a-day victory over Merit into Punta del Este would turn out to be their biggest leg win. Fisher & Paykel finished barely half an hour behind them in three of the subsequent legs, and the margin on the Fremantle to Auckland leg – the one they both wanted to win more than any other – was a little over six minutes.
On the last leg Steinlager might have lost her hard-won advantage when, four days out of Fort Lauderdale, a chainplate for a mizzen shroud and mainmast backstay failed. It was only quick thinking helmsman Brad Butterworth’s immediate gybe that saved the rig.
After the race finished Steinlager 2 remained in the northern hemisphere for two decades, under three different owners. She was variously known as Safilo and Barracuda before Swiss sailor Stefan Detjen bought her in 2003.
The original coffee grinder pedestals are still in use and provide plenty of exercise for Steinlager’s crew. Photo: Nigel Sharp
He restored her original name and distinctive original livery, sailing her six Atlantic crossings (including a Huelva to La Gomera race record), three Middle Sea Races and various Mediterranean regattas. She also took part in some Whitbread reunion races, including the Volvo Legends regatta in Alicante in 2011.
The New Zealand Sailing Trust had been established in 2008 to purchase Lion New Zealand – the boat Peter Blake had skippered in the 1985/86 Whitbread – and use her to provide sail training experiences for young New Zealanders.
There was a growing feeling that it was time Steinlager also returned to New Zealand and the following year the opportunity to purchase her arose, so the Trust immediately did so. She was then sailed back to Auckland via the Panama Canal.

Steinlager needed a good deal of work to make her fit for her new role and this was entrusted to Yachting Developments at Hobsonville just outside Auckland. The original accommodation included a semi-enclosed nav station on the centreline beneath the cockpit and a single heads compartment abaft.
Otherwise she was almost completely open plan with pipe cots outboard and forward, and with a U-shaped galley (complete with an athwartships gimballing cooker) on the centreline forward of the main mast.
The number of pipe cots has now been doubled to 30, each named after one of the original crew or another prominent Kiwi yachtsman of the time, and the galley has been moved further abaft. While a single heads compartment might have been considered adequate for 15 all-male Whitbread sailors, it certainly wouldn’t be for the boat’s new role and so two more have been added.
Fifteen of the berths are named after Steinlager’s Whitbread crew, the rest after other prominent Kiwi sailors of that era. Photo: Nigel Sharp
Steinlager’s original engine was a 130hp Volvo Penta 4-cylinder diesel, fitted forward of the galley. This was replaced with a new engine of the same model in 2005. Yachting Developments later overhauled it and, to avoid the need for an excessively long shaft, moved it aft to a position under the cockpit.
Refit and retention
Other refit work included a new electronics package, new lights throughout the interior and the installation of a Maxwell VC3500 capstan. Almost all of the original deck gear has been retained, including the three coffee grinders, which drive the Barient winches.
When Steinlager was built, Blake had two sets of spars made for her. He used one set for the first three legs of the Whitbread race and then replaced them with the spare set in Auckland. The original set remained with the boat when she was sold, and in 2009 Detjen unstepped the second set and replaced all suspect components with those from the original spars.
During the Yachting Developments refit, the spars were overhauled with all fittings undergoing crack testing and being repaired or replaced as necessary.
During the refit the original U-shaped galley was moved from forward of the mast, with the gimballing cooker renewed. Photo: Nigel Sharp
New sails were produced by Doyles in Auckland using Stratis sail cloth and replicating the look of the originals – 110 of which had been made for the Whitbread campaign. With the work complete, Steinlager was relaunched in November 2013 to take up her new role. Since then, the focus has been on taking New Zealand schoolchildren on voyages all over the Hauraki Gulf.
Despite her years Steinlager is, on average, out sailing every other day of the year. Almost 1,000 children had the opportunity to sail on her last year. They’re all too young to remember the phenomenal achievements of Blake and his team almost 30 years ago, but sailing on this iconic boat is a chance to get inspired by a true Kiwi legend.

MARTIN SAMUEL: We win the World Cup… and now the ECB sideline 50-over game
In the opinion of Sir Clive Woodward and many others, the RFU weakened the legacy of England Rugby World Cup
Imagine that on his return from Australia the governing body had decided to leave rugby, almost in its entirety.
Imagine that they had come up with a whole new format of the game and decided to focus on that. Fives. Eights. Twelve year olds. Imagine that, just as England had reached the height of the sport, it had become superfluous.
<img id = "i-246567b2c7caffab" src = "https://ift.tt/2k6d62T -7249871-image-a-17_1563218430395.jpg "height =" 453 "width =" 634 "alt =" The success of the Cricket World Cup in England is in danger of being reduced by The Hundred of the ECB. by The Hundred of the ECB "
The success of the Cricket World Cup in England is about to be diminished by The Hundred
Welcome to English cricket, 2019
Do you think this is the beginning of a brave new era? Think again. From here, the best English cricket players do not play 50-over matches unless they are selected for the national team or the Lions. Indeed, the only players who will gain experience with the format used for cricket & # 39; s World Cup will be those who are considered inferior. Those who are unwanted by the shiny new franchises of The Hundred
The ECB decided this game, with its merged teams in the city and the supposed attraction for those who don't like cricket – not a single ball of it, let alone 100 – is the future of money spinning. And the victim, squeezed in this desperate search for new markets, is the elongated, short play of forms. The 50 overs used at the World Cup.
There are eight of these new franchises and after three overseas players have been recruited for each, the clubs will need squadrons of 15. So 12 English players per team. Multiplying eight by 12 gets 96. So, the 96 best white ball cricketers available for England will never play the World Cup version of the game from next summer until they are elevated to international level. This is the equivalent of six-and-a-bit World Cup squadrons.
The Andy Murray and Serena Williams found knowledge and experience of any size to be essential this year in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon. On paper, Murray and Williams seemed unstoppable as a double play. In reality, they were defeated in round three by Nicole Melichar and Bruno Soares, two players whose impact is negligible.
<img id = "i-e2c428b263d36a38" src = "https://ift.tt/2NUmNiR image-a-19_1563218516762.jpg "height =" 636 "width =" 634 "alt =" The 100-ball format means that the best 50-over players in England will no longer play that game "-balformat means the best 50-over England players no longer play that game "
The 100-ball format means the best 50-over England players will no longer play that game
Melichar is in seventh place in singles tennis, Soares has never been higher than 221 and that was 15 years ago, they are not the same as they are, but they are difficult, and as such they comfortably defeated two players with 42 Grand Slam- titles – single and double rooms – between them.
There is no relevant evidence in cricket either, and the ECB left it between 2011 and 2013 5 0-ball game and was rewarded with a 2015 World Cup achievement that redefined incompetence. To finish four in a seven-team group, England registered two wins – against Afghanistan and Scotland – and failed to reach the quarter-finals.
Highlights? The 111-run defeat by Australia at the MCG, Sri Lanka surpasses England & 309-run total for losing a wicket, being blown out 15 runs short of the 275 set by Bangladesh.
It was this debacle that provoked the revolution in England's approach, culminating in the World Cup victory. How could the ECB have witnessed this story and decide to leave 50-over cricket for the second time it would go?
Future Test players can still sharpen their talent for building long turns, or for exhausting spells of concentration in the field, in the provincial championship. Those who excel in the shortest forms of the one-day game are now particularly well cared for.
The public doesn't like the 50s, but it won't happen. – about game, it is argued. Too long. Too boring. This is the ECB's mantra cricket for people who don't like cricket. The marketing department asked people who didn't look at cricket what they didn't like about cricket and most of them said the cricket, so they try to get rid of it.
<img id = "i-ae88386914ad3258" src = "https://ift.tt/32sIqtP -7249871-image-a-18_1563218463407.jpg "height =" 931 "width =" 634 "alt =" Jofra Archer celebrates after England won the Cricket World Cup by playing with Lord & # 39; s "
Jofra Archer celebrates after England won the Cricket World Cup during a fashion show at Lord & # 39; s
If they can remove the cricket from cricket, they think, people will start watching how it is played. It's a genius idea, you have to admit.
Families are the target audience, so alcohol will also be banned, otherwise people will just start chatting. Anyway, it's not that someone might need a glass of chardonnay to relieve the tension from taking a group of school kids to a sport they all hate. That is why The Hundred emphasizes how little cricket there will be. & # 39; No, seriously, you can do this sober. It is not that we are going to hit or something. & # 39;
But strangely enough, if this World Cup has proven one thing, it is that the modern 50-over-white ball game can be super entertaining and has benefited immensely from the rise of Twenty20. It is now faster, more furious, but with enough subtlety and nuance to captivate those who love test matches. They could be called cricket fans.
Even the final, played on a slow pitch by the New Zealand team whose success is based on defending low scores with stingy bowling, gently cooked to an astonishing climax. The competition can sometimes look like a relapse until a few decades ago when too many teams tried to build a day of innings because they might score, but the last hour was sport at its very best.
Alternatively, we can participate in those who demand immediate satisfaction and reduce cricket to a series of Instagram moments. Why have 50 overs? Cut directly to a super.
There are many reasons to be wary of The Hundred, but it is more worrying than one of them is the nonchalant contempt of the ECB for the World Cup that their players have just won.
The lap of honor of the English team was conducted on the Oval on Monday amid hundreds of happy school children. What was the ECB's message to them? & # 39; This is cricket, children.
It's very difficult to play with your friends, easy to make negative comparisons between the women's final in Wimbledon in 56 minutes, and the men's match between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer , which lasted three minutes less than five hours
By the time the men finished their
It is clear that, measured by the time on the field, those on were present on Sunday, paid more for their money.

Yet this looks at the incredible performance of Simona Halep against Serena Williams, certainly one of the most complete individual screenings that the has seen competition.
In her 6-2, 6-2 victory, Halep made only three casual errors and one of those errors is considered debatable.
It was a stunning display of athletic behavior against a champion who has displaced the physical parameters of the sport. And yes, it was short. But that doesn't mean it wasn't sweet.
The strange thing about Lewis Hamilton's tax affairs is that they
Hamilton & # 39; s residence in Monaco is always stopped by a kind of stain on his character in a way that he never was or never is, for other British sports heroes who live there. It is almost as if there is something else that separates him, something else.
& # 39; Was Jenson & # 39; s Britishness ever questioned because he lived in Monaco? & # 39; He wrote Ferdinand. & # 39; No chance. I will tell you why – because I looked the same, sounded similar, dressed in the same way, and walked the same way as the people who raise questions about Hamilton. The level of contempt and racist overtones in doubting Hamilton's patriotism should not be underestimated. "
He is right. No one ever says that Radcliffe was less than British, who now lived in Monaco for two decades, nobody said about Button, or about the British Tour de France winners.
Yet Hamilton constantly fights against negative perceptions, with his tax status used as a blatant moral justification, and he also wears diamond earrings and flamboyant clothing – why can't I be gentle and down-to-earth like all those other Formula 1 drivers?
It is not that it is the best in racing the fastest cars on earth, but that could lead to a man developing an extravagant style.
<img id = "i-a13113f774a1d7b9" src = "https://ift.tt/2NVcz1L" height = " 586 "width =" 634 "alt =" Lewis Hamilton & # 39; s stay in Monaco is always stopped by a kind of stain on his character There "Lewis Hamilton & # 39; s stay in Monaco is always stopped by a kind of stain on his character
Lewis Hamilton & # 39; s residence in Monaco is always held back by a kind of stain on his character
On Silverstone on Sunday, Hamilton won his sixth British Grand Prix, a record for every driver, not just a British citizen. Michael Schumacher, on the other hand, won three. Those who don't understand claim that Hamilton drives the best car. But that is not an accident either. The best drivers end up with the best builders, in the best machine. Hamilton did not demand to drive for Mercedes. They chose him.
Andy Murray, Serena Williams, Tiger Woods, Andy Murray, Andy Murray, Andy Murray, Vijay Singh – he didn't have the right to be good the way he became. Black children from poor families in Stevenage do not become Formula 1 champions.
Hamilton is an outlier, an unprecedented willpower and that is an inspiration, no matter where he puts his hat. & # 39; I am going to all these races and I proudly lift the British flag & # 39 ;, he said. & # 39; There is no one else in this sport who has raised it that high. & # 39;
Indeed.
Bruce Bruce did not play in the era
Bruce & # 39; s exit appears on EFL financial foolishness when Premier League wages exploded. Still, as a former captain of Manchester United and a manager since 1998, now working at his 10th club, he is unlikely to fall short at Christmas. In other words, he is not about the money.
Karren Brady says that Bruce was alone during his stay in Birmingham
So the job in Newcastle will in part be a labor of love. It was his youth club with personal ties.

owner of Sheffield Wednesday, Dejphon Chansiri, almost certainly has more ambitions than Mike Ashley in Newcastle. I would like to invest more – and Bruce knows this – but his hands are bound by a gentle transfer and the fear of punishing further penalties for violating EFL spending rules.
That is why even a low-wage club, an exhausted team, a reputable stingy recruitment policy and a president who would sell in the blink of an eye if a serious offer were to come – we can probably now consider the lord of Abu Dhabi as the last in a long series of pretenders – being viewed by Bruce as the better bet.
The Wednesday fan who confronted him on the sidelines during Saturday's friendship with Lincoln would like to file his complaint with the top managers of the division.
Worldwide glory no warning for Brexit
Jacob Rees-Mogg fourth the victory in the World Cup in a foolish way by trying to make a connection between England's success to Brexit.

Indeed, what this England team and their victory To represent more than the petty nationalism of Rees-Mogg is the global nature of modern life and its need for alliances and openness.

Autumn Tests: Jeremy Guscott
Autumn Tests: Jeremy Guscott
Autumn Tests: Jeremy Guscott
The autumn internationals were the final chance for northern hemisphere sides to test themselves against their southern counterparts before Japan 2019
Four weeks of intense competition, varied opposition, new faces and old stagers.
Now, with the autumn internationals over and the clock ticking down to Japan 2019, how will England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland assess their efforts?
England
England operated a co-captain system with Owen Farrell sharing leadership duties with Dylan Hartley
When the dust settles, England will look back and regret not winning four out of four.
They will know they were a marginal offside decision against Courtney Lawes away from beating New Zealand. Victory would have been a huge psychological boost for Eddie Jones’ squad, but even in defeat they will know that, on their day, they can produce the intensity to match the southern hemisphere’s best.
They showed they can create opportunities and openings. They should have been out of sight against South Africa considering the try-scoring chances they created in the second half.
Owen Farrell switched into fly-half and fitted in seamlessly, but that was only to be expected considering his all-round excellence.
Must do better:
England victories did not come in the comprehensive, complete manner that Ireland’s did.
There were either aspects of their performance lacking – for instance finishing off those chances against South Africa – or a failure to maintain their standards across a full 80 minutes.
England produce second-half masterclass against Australia
Against Japan, both were true.
England need to play those games against limited opposition with more tenacity. They have to grind teams down and earn the right to play expansively.
Overcoming that psychological barrier and playing against the likes of Japan as if they were the All Blacks is particularly important to negotiating the World Cup pool stages.
Focus on: Maro Itoje
He is very bright academically but some of Maro Itoje’s on-pitch decisions need to be more rugby smart.
In 12 games for England this year he has given away 19 penalties. Three of those came against South Africa in the first autumn Test, when he was also shown a yellow card.
It’s a measure of the stratospheric standards that he set himself over 2016 and 2017 that these little details are being held against him.
But penalty count is a crucial metric for top Test teams. He is testing himself, he is testing the referee, finding out how much he can get away and how far he can push it, but ultimately he needs to find a balance to slow the flow of penalties against him.
Scotland
Scotland finish the autumn ranked seventh in the world
In 18 months in charge, Gregor Townsend has overseen some towering highs – such as the win over England in this year’s Six Nations or beating Australia in Sydney – and some real lows – such as defeat by the United States and Fiji.
This autumn did not really hit either extreme.
They won games they should have won, but did not seize the chance to take the decisive steps forward that victory over Wales or South Africa would have represented.
Must do better:
The discussion around Scotland invariably concentrates on the likes of Finn Russell, Huw Jones, Stuart Hogg and Sean Maitland.
For Scotland to be more of a threat, we need to be talking about their forwards as much as we do their backs.
Maitland try secures win for Scotland against Argentina
They do a decent job of serving up ball to that vaunted backline, but, at the moment, they don’t offer a threat themselves. How well can they compete with the forcefulness of South Africa, England, Ireland and New Zealand?
A strong midfield runner would also provide them with a bit more variety in attack. Too often defences can set themselves up for a race to the wide areas.
The Six Nations will provide more answers. Last year they went to Cardiff in their Six Nations opener full of promise and hope, and came back on the wrong end of a 34-7 scoreline.
This year they have Italy at home first up, which should help them build into their campaign.
Focus on: Finn Russell
In the final game of their autumn series, Scotland experimented with Finn Russell at inside centre and Adam Hastings at fly-half.
The combination did not really click in a patchy 14-9 win over Argentina and Russell will surely go into the World Cup as the preferred option at 10.
Scotland need to see him play more shrewdly. His distribution can be fantastic, but his decision-making on when to throw the ambitious pass still needs work.
In the Six Nations, he took England apart with his passing. But against Ireland, his errors fatally undermined his team.
He doesn’t need to change his style necessarily, he just needs to be more accurate.
Wales
British and Irish Lion Liam Williams scored three tries across the autumn
England’s tackle accuracy this season is 87%. Scotland have managed 88%. Ireland are at 89%.
None can match Wales’ return. Warren Gatland’s side are at 90%. They are full of confidence after nine successive wins and a lot of that run comes down to their claustrophobically tight defence.
During their current winning streak, they have restricted opponents to an average of 13 points a game. That sort of frugality means they will have a chance to beat anyone.
Captain Alun Wyn Jones is defence coach Shaun Edwards’ voice on the pitch.
He may be 33 and have 120 Wales caps to his name, but he is pushing the ceiling still higher on his personal performance. He is somehow getting even better.
Must do better:
The question for Wales is whether they can maintain that defensive intensity, while adding more creativity and accuracy with the ball.
They need to be able to switch from defending in a strict structure to reacting instinctively to each other in attack.
Francis gives Wales early lead over South Africa
The try that Tomas Francis scored against South Africa this weekend is the sort of thing Wales need more of.
Flanker Ellis Jenkins felt defenders come off him, held onto the ball and linked with the prop to score. It looked simple but it took vision, decision-making and execution, all the things that the northern hemisphere sides are playing catch-up on.
Focus on: Justin Tipuric
With Sam Warburton’s presence at open-side flanker, the 29-year-old found game time limited in the past. Half of his 60 Wales caps have come off the bench.
Now, after Warburton’s retirement, he has his chance to shine.
Most players influence a match either through sheer weight of unseen work or a couple of game-changing moments or big plays.
But Tipuric seems to do both. He is relentlessly busy around the park, but also has the pace, ball-handling skills and breakdown knowhow to produce decisive passages of play.
When Taulupe Faletau, Aaron Shingler and Josh Navidi all get back to fitness, Wales will have a wealth of options in the back row.
Ireland
Ireland remain second in the world despite their victory over top-ranked New Zealand
What can you say about Ireland’s autumn?
When they beat New Zealand in Chicago in 2016, it was an upset. Their victory over the All Blacks in Dublin this time around, while celebrated long and loud, was not a surprise.
It was an unrelentingly excellent performance that day but the autumn as a whole showed the depth of Ireland’s quality.
Neither scrum-half Conor Murray nor centre Robbie Henshaw – absolutely key parts of Joe Schmidt’s plans – played any part in the four matches.
Luke McGrath and Kieran Marmion filled in at nine, Will Addison and Garry Ringrose slotted into midfield, and the machine continued to purr.
Must do better:
I don’t think Schmidt is ever satisfied.
He is a man of fine details and minute planning. He will be working on all the intricacies and variations, fine-tuning the wraparound options and double-team choke tackling, while attempting to iron out the few errors that remain and build more pressure on the opposition.
Focus on: Tadhg Furlong
Tadhg Furlong forces every other player on his team to look at themselves and redefine what they are capable of.
For a tight-head prop forward, he just seems to be ever present on the field. He is involved in everything, and in a way that makes such an impact on the course of the game.
He does that while bearing all that weight in the scrum and carrying 130kg (20st 6lb) of bodyweight.
I questioned last season how many of Ireland’s team would get into a World XV, given how many outstanding individuals there are across all positions.
But Furlong strolls into that World XV. Comfortably.

The Cape Town part is less cringey here than in Blake’s Odyssey, Blake says they passed Robben Island “where Mandela was imprisoned”, talks about meeting with people who are working to reform the system and provide equal opportunities for Black South Africans, and says that “communication and understanding” will be key to fixing the situation— which they were, in the end.
But the “We shouldn’t have economic sanctions or ban them from sports, international interaction will do more to inspire them to be better” argument he makes when that doesn’t seem to be working with Russia or the Gulf States today but the bans DID help force reforms in South Africa… yeah, Peter Blake was on the wrong side there. And saying that the Boers are stubborn and resist change because their ancestors had to be to settle in “a wild and mostly empty land” is pretty uncomfortable wording. Blake certainly wasn’t pro-Apartheid, but he comes off as way more accommodating and passive about it than Skip Novak, who was smuggling in banned books in his own seabag. Really, the whole situation of the Royal Naval Sailing Association keeping the Whitbread route through Cape Town up to 1985 when so many other sports had already banned and/or distanced themselves from South Africa looks bad in retrospect and would be an interesting subject for an historical article or thesis.
(The crew making comments in the log making fun of Greenpeace also hasn’t aged too well— and given Blake’s environmental work later on, he might have thought the same thing later in life.)

What’s the forex in New Zealand? New Zealand Greenback (NZD) whereby about NZD 1.40~ is the same as USD $1, €0.85~ or Php 50~ (that is as of Might 2018).
When exchanging your cash to NZD, I extremely recommendation that you just do NOT trade it on the airport for the reason that charges there should not aggressive. So what do you have to fairly do? Both trade your cash at a financial institution or at a cash exchanger in your house nation or in any of New Zealand’s metropolis facilities. Higher but, simply withdraw from an ATM together with your debit/bank card (do one massive withdrawal to attenuate charges together with your financial institution). Talking of playing cards, a number of New Zealand’s institutions settle for bank cards however it’s at all times advisable to have money available.
When is the very best time to go to New Zealand? Technically, there may be NEVER a nasty time to go to New Zealand; but in fact, since each the North and South Islands are lengthy and slim, climate just isn’t uniform. However as an summary, under are New Zealand’s seasons:
Summer time: (December to February) That is the preferred time; therefore, the busiest — however the seashores are nice throughout this time of the 12 months. Take word by the way in which that January would be the warmest month. Serious about this, New Zealand is a good escape for these months of the 12 months if you wish to get away from harsh winters.
Autumn: (March to Might) This time is attractive because the leaves change colours and it’s additionally the most effective instances to plan a getaway or a climbing spree for the reason that summer season crowds are principally gone. So as to add, charges are on an ‘off peak’ degree.
Winter: (June to August) Queenstown as an example might be your winter wonderland, however there absolutely are a variety of ski areas across the nation. For those who are available June you’ll be able to benefit from the Queenstown Winter Competition.
Spring: (September to November) This is among the ‘off peak’ seasons as you get to take pleasure in hotter days and longer daytime.
Methods to get to New Zealand? By air. Auckland Worldwide Airport (AKL) is New Zealand’s largest airport, adopted by Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown and Dunedin. To seek for the very best flight offers, I extremely advocate scanning by SkyScanner. In the meantime, you’ll be able to attain the town from the airport by Airbus Categorical (NZ$16), shuttle vans, or taxi (could be NZ$50 to NZ$100). Uber has a flat charge of NZ$70, wherereas Zoomy expenses between NZ$39 to NZ$66.
By boat. Auckland is a significant cruise ship port of name with its most important cruise terminal situated on Queens Wharf.
How can I am going round New Zealand’s North Island? By air. Doing home flights from one place to a different may be very straightforward in New Zealand and they’re usually cheaper than driving or taking trains. A few of the airways you’ll be able to select from are Air New Zealand, Virgin Australia and Jetstar.
By automobile. Driving in New Zealand is completely calm and nice (you drive on the left), that’s why a number of guests choose to go on street journeys when visiting the nation. It helps to notice although that fuel and rental charges could be fairly costly, this is the reason lots of people who’ve a protracted vacation within the nation would fairly favor to purchase a automobile or van after which resell it earlier than leaving — or higher but, they only be a part of street journey excursions that can take them to the very best spots! My advice? Try Wild Kiwi! I went with them throughout my keep in New Zealand and I had a blast!
By bus. It is a comparatively low-cost option to get round New Zealand however it helps to notice that companies between main cities are normally solely as soon as per day and that the buses are likely to get full, so it helps to e book a couple of days upfront (doing so may also enable you rating bargains). A few of the main traces are Atomic Shuttles, Flying Kiwi, InterCity and Kiwi Expertise.
By practice. Each Auckland and Wellington have commuter rail companies and they’re operated by AT Metro in Auckland and Metlink in Wellington. In the meantime, inter-city rail passenger companies are operated by ‘Nice Journeys of New Zealand’ and so they fairly deal with vacationer trains which go by spectacular surroundings and have a working commentary, panoramic home windows and an open-air viewing carriage (an instance of which is ‘The Northern Explorer’ which runs between Auckland and Wellington).
By bicycle. For those who’re up for the problem, using a motorbike or biking is a good way to go across the landscapes of New Zealand, and it’s pretty straightforward to get a rental.

To seek for the very best lodging at the very best costs, I counsel trying out Agoda and Reserving.com. However if you happen to’re fairly excited by renting snug homes, verify AirBnB.

Naturally, if you happen to’re NOT a citizen of any of the listed international locations, you’ll then want to use for a vacationer visa within the New Zealand embassy that’s close to you. For those who’re a Philippine citizen like me, you’ll be able to learn my information on ‘Methods to Apply for a New Zealand Visa‘.
Useful Māori phrases English is the dominant language spoken by most Kiwis (New Zealanders) however the nation’s de jure official languages are Māori and New Zealand Signal Language (NZSL).
