Misato Komatsubara / Tim Koleto - Japanese National Championships 22 - Free Dance

Program: Fifth Element

Elements:

This was really really improved for them, and a lot of elements (namely from the curve lift on) were actually really solid, and they’ve definitely made a lot of improvements in flow and going from element to element in this program.

I will say though, improvement and cleaning does not a good program or skating skills make. So if they score anything over like a 105 (reminder, their PB is a 104) There is some SERIOUS nationals riggory and boosting going on, not that they don’t need it for when these two actually compete against other world class teams… still overall I really am glad that they’ve been able to hone this program and a lot of the uniqueness of it a lot more, I just wish that Team IAM could just… whip some of their clunkiness out of them… cuz whatever they’ve been training for the last 4 years clearly hasn’t done the trick…

Ugh I still cannot get over this godawful outfit on Tim… it looks SO! BAD!!! On him. That orange and olive clash so badly and the charcoal doesn’t help it either. Why couldn’t that olive just be white or more grey to match and not clash with Misato??? The fit is good but it’s so atrocious in color and piping…

Score: 105.14 for a total of 175.10

Misato Komatsubara has retired.

She says she will still skate in shows with her husband/partner, Tim. Tim responded to her retirement, though he has not officially retired himself (and seems to be considering his options still.)

Well executed for them, and even though I think themes and vaguely bold programs are the way to go to cover up their skating skills, this program’s music and design doesn’t play to their strengths. It drones and doesn’t build enough.
