CM defers 50% occupancy in theatres rule to April 7
Tumblr media
A day after imposing restrictions, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Saturday acceded to the demands of the Kannada film industry and relaxed the 50% occupancy rule for theatres which it had initially imposed across eight districts in Karnataka, including Bengaluru Urban. After lead actor Puneeth Rajkumar, whose big budget film Yuvarathnaa hit the screens only two days ago, met the Chief Minister and lobbied for relaxing the norms, the State government issued orders deferring the implementation of the rule to April 7. The order stated advanced ticket bookings as the reason for the decision. Industry insiders, however, pointed out that this temporary extension would provide Yuvarathnaa the crucial first week collections. D.R. Jairaj, Chairman, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, also met Mr. Yediurappa and appealed for a reversal to full occupancy in theatres. Though the COVID-19 Technical Advisory Committee had recommended restrictions over a fortnight ago, they were introduced only on Friday. On March 19, Mr. Yediyurappa had tweeted that there was no proposal before the State government to impose occupancy restrictions in cinemas. “The sudden decision is the problem. We released the film on the public assurance by the Chief Minister that there was no proposal to impose occupancy restrictions. Two days later, the film was hit by exactly the same, which will kill all its prospects. If we had known earlier, we would have postponed the film’s release,” Puneeth Rajkumar said earlier in the day. Other lead actors too rallied around Puneeth Rajkumar expressing their support. “We now have awareness. Restrictions should help us, not adversely impact our lives ...” tweeted Yash. Another lead actor Sudeep, whose film is also slated for release over the next few weeks, took to Twitter to wish the Yuvarathnaa team. “Going back to 50% occupancy is surely a shocker to a film that just released. Respecting the government’s decision too is our duty, keeping in mind it’s for a reason,” he had said, before the government reversed its decision. Source link Read the full article

via Today Bharat The Karnataka High Court Court has allowed the shooting of the Kannada film 'KGF Chapter 2', at Cyanide Hills in Kolar Gold Field, in Kolar district. Justice Krishna Dixit has allowed the shooting till the next date of hearing along with an order to issue a notice to one N Srinivas and another including Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. A Kolar court had recently halted the shooting of the film at Cyanide Hills following a suit filed by N Srinivas, a local resident alleging that the cast and crew were causing damage to the environment. Several movies have been shot in the past at Cyanide Hills, where the debris was dumped while gold was mined at KGF, which is now defunct. The huge debris at Cyanide Hills creates a perfect scenery for landscape film cinematographer, which has attracted several filmmakers to shoot at the hills. The producer of the film, Vijay Kiragandur, its director Prashanth Neel and the cinematographer of the movie, Bhuvan have filed a petition before the High Court against the lower court order. They have filed an undertaking before the court that they will complete the shooting in 25 days, and that they will not cause any damage to the environment while shooting. They have even undertaken to plant 500 saplings at the hills. The first chapter of the Kannada film KGF was a big hit, which was released worldwide in multiple languages. The second chapter will mark the debut of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt of the fame of Khalnayak, Munna Bhai MBBS and many more into Kannada film industry. He plays the role of Adheera. He recently joined the shooting of the film in Hyderabad where a grand set has been erected by the film team.

Letter Published in BM on 27July 19HC probe will reveal KFCC’s skeletons
K Ragavan feels that the story ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ was an interesting read. He writes that the Karnataka High Court ordering fresh probe into Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce’s (KFCC) spending on toilet renovations is a good move. A 50 sq ft toilet was renovated at a cost of 13 lakh. That objections were raised by some members regarding the amount spent, is quite natural. The amount for renovating old toilets could have been used to construct new toilets. However, it can be hoped that the truth will come out eventually with the HC probe and the guilty will be booked
