Lowest Scores in IPL: List of Lowest Team Total in IPL History

In 11 years of its existence, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen at least once in every edition a team scoring less than 100 runs in an innings. Till date, there have been 35 instances that a team had scored below 100 runs. Such instances were seen the most in IPL 2011 when on 6 occasions a team was bundled out for less than 100. The least was in 2012 which witnessed only one such incident.

Delhi is the team with the most number of scores below 100 with 9. The record for the least number of a team total below 100 belongs to 4 teams -- Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers, Kochi Tuskers Kerala & Pune Warriors.

On that note let us take a look at the top 5 lowest team totals in IPL history.

#5 70 by Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Rajasthan Royals in 2014 The 1st leg match between RCB & RR in the 2014 edition of the IPL saw RR winning the toss and electing to field first. RCB had already won 2 out of its 3 previous matches before coming into this match whereas Rajasthan had only 1 out of its previous 3 matches and had lost 2 matches back-to-back.

RCB started the match in the worst possible way by losing 2 wickets in the very first over with just one run on board. Their situation further deteriorated when they were reduced to 11/4 at the end of the third over. By the 6th over, half the team was back in the pavilion with the score being 22/5. Only three players from RCB managed to cross the double-figure mark -- innings top scorer Virat Kohli (21), Mitchell Starc (18) & Ravi Rampaul (13). RCB were all out for 70. They could only manage to last 15 overs.

Pravin Tambe of RR ripped through the RCB batting line-up with 4 wickets. His scalps included Virat Kohli, Albie Morkel, Ravi Rampaul & Ashok Dinda.

Rajasthan reached the required total in 13 overs. They had lost 4 wickets en route to their 71 runs. Pravin Tambe for his spell of 4/21 was named the Player of the Match.The second leg match between KKR & MI saw both the teams coming into the game high on confidence. KKR had won three consecutive matches in its previous games. Mumbai, on the other hand, were one better than KKR as they had won four consecutive matches, including defeating KKR at Eden Gardens. This match saw Mumbai win the toss and electing to field first.

Apart from Sourav Ganguly, Salman Butt & Ajit Agarkar, no other player from Kolkata could cross the individual score of 5. Kolkata's dismal batting performance saw them last for just 15.2 overs and score only 67.

Shaun Pollock of Mumbai was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets. Other Mumbai bowlers -- Dwayne Bravo, Rohan Raje & Dominic Thornley had also picked up 2 wickets each.

Mumbai reached the target of 68 runs in just 5.3 overs. 48 of those runs were scored by Sanath Jayasuriya with the help of 3 sixes & 6 fours. Shaun Pollock for his 3/12 picked up the Player of the Match Award.

KKR's 67 all out remained the lowest team total of the 2008 IPL.Delhi had a horrible start to their 2017 IPL campaign, winning just 2 out of their first 7 matches. KXIP, on the other hand, were slightly better off with 3 victories from their first 8 games. Both the teams desperately needed points on the board to move up in the table. Delhi had managed to defeat KXIP by 51 runs in their first leg encounter.

In the 2nd leg, KXIP won the toss and elected to field first. It would be fair to say that the toss was not the only thing that didn't go Delhi's way that day. Delhi during their batting lasted 17.1 overs and could score only 67 runs. 18 by Corey Anderson was the highest individual score of the innings. Sandeep Sharma of KXIP caused the most damage by picking up 4 wickets.

In reply, KXIP reached the required target in 7.5 overs with Martin Guptill scoring a half-century. Sandeep Sharma for his 4/20 was the Player of the Match.Delhi's bad run in the 2017 IPL continued as they lost both their matches after the one with KXIP where they lost by 10 wickets and recorded one of the lowest team totals ever in the history of IPL.

Mumbai, on the other hand, were having a great tournament, winning 7 out of their first 10 matches. They had already defeated Delhi once in the tournament. Both on paper and current form indicated that Mumbai were poised to win their 2nd leg encounter against Delhi also and they did so.Winning the toss, Delhi elected to field first. Mumbai began their innings with a 79-run first-wicket partnership between Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons. This was followed by two 37-run partnerships between Simmons & Kieron Pollard first and then by Rohit Sharma and Pollard.

Finally, a 59-run partnership between Pollard and Hardik Pandya saw Mumbai end their innings at 212/3. Both Lendl Simmons (66) & Kieron Pollard (63) had scored half-centuries. The Mumbai innings saw a total of 11 sixes and 15 fours being hit.

Delhi, in reply, by the 6th over had seen half their team being dismissed with just 35 runs on the board. The remaining players further added another 31 runs on the board before Delhi wrapped up its innings for 66 runs. This would be Delhi's lowest ever team total in IPL. It was also the 2nd lowest team total in the 2017 edition of IPL. Lendl Simmons for his 63 was named the Player of the Match.As mentioned in the beginning, the 2009 IPL saw just one instance of a team scoring below 100 runs in an innings and that unwanted distinction went to Rajasthan Royals. The 2nd match of the 2009 IPL saw the inaugural champions take on RCB.

RCB had won the toss and had elected to bat first. Dimitri Mascarenhas gave Rajasthan a dream start when he took two wickets in the first three balls of the very first over. He took the wickets of Jesse Ryder & Ross Taylor off two consecutive balls. RCB lost their third wicket of Robin Uthappa (wicket taken by Mascarenhas) with just 17 runs on the board. Apart from Rahul Dravid (66) & Kevin Pietersen (32), none of the other RCB players managed to reach double figures. RCB ended their innings at 133/8 for their allotted 20 overs.

Rajasthan, in reply, were bundled out for 58 runs. RCB players had just managed to hit one four in their innings. The main destroyer was a gentleman named Anil Kumble who took 5 wickets and gave away a miserly 5 runs. Kumble for his brilliant spell was named the Player of the Match.The only instance of a team scoring below 50 runs in an innings happened in IPL 2017 and was by RCB against KKR.

Electing to field first after winning the toss, RCB did well to restrict KKR to a total of 131. Sunil Narine top scored for KKR with 34 runs. In reply, RCB were all out for 49 runs in just 9.4 overs. None of the RCB players made it to double figures with Kedar Jadhav top scoring with 9 runs. For KKR, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Woakes & Colin de Grandhomme took 3 wickets apiece. Coulter-Nile, who picked up the important wickets of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers & Kedar Jadhav, was awarded the Player of the Match trophy.

With this performance, RCB now hold the record for scoring both the highest team total (263/5 vs Pune Warriors in 2013) as well as the lowest team total in the history of the tournament.

MI vs CSK Qualifier-1: Match Review

The winner of tonight’s match will book a ticket to the grand finale of VIVO IPL 2019. The first qualifier match is going to happen in Chennai. The table topper Mumbai Indians will face Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk.

Mumbai Indians are so-called slow starter. This season they have started their journey with some initial losses. Later, they have maintained the momentum and topped the table with nine wins from fourteen matches. The players of Mumbai Indians are with high confidence and are ready to face CSK in the first qualifier match of VIVO IPL 2019. They have got three big wins to form their last four wins. They have got a thriller win versus Sunrisers Hyderabad in the super over.

In the previous match against KKR, MI had fielded their best playing in 11 in this season. Tonight they may look for a third spinner against CSK as per Chepauk’s pitch condition. Chennai pitch always suits spin attack.

The defending champion is the first team to qualify for the playoffs in VIVO IPL 2019. They had a good start by registering seven wins out of their first eight matches. Mumbai Indians have met CSK 26 times in IPL. Mumbai has won 15 matches against CSK so far. CSK could manage to win 11 wins only. Since 2015, they have played eight matches with each other. MI has won 6 matches, and CSK has won 2 matches. In this season, MI has beaten CSK in both home and away matches. But in knockout matches, they have met seven times, and CSK has won 4 times.

The winner of tonight’s match will get a ticket to the final of VIVO IPL 2019, and the loser will have another chance in qualifier two match. The loser will meet the winner of eliminator match, and the winner of the match will meet the winner of Qualifier 1 in the final in Hyderabad.

IPL 2020 में टीम के कप्तानों ने कई ऐसे फैसले लिए, जो कभी सही साबित हुए और कभी उस फैसले के लिए उन्हें भारी कीमत चुकानी पड़ी। कोलकाता नाइट राइडर्स ने लोकी फर्ग्यूसन को पहली बार टीम में शामिल किया। उन्होंने अपने दम पर मैच अपनी टीम के नाम किया। इसी तरह किंग्स इलेवन पंजाब के लिए मोहम्मद शमी ने सुपर ओवर में मुंबई को जीतने नहीं दिया।

वहीं, रॉयल चैलेंजर्स बेंगलुरु को एबी डिविलियर्स को 6 नंबर पर बैटिंग के लिए भेजना भारी पड़ा। हम आपको सीजन के ऐसे ही 5 टर्निंग पॉइंट्स के बारे में बता रहे हैं...

हैदराबाद के खिलाफ फर्ग्यूसन ने सुपर ओवर में 3 बॉल पर हैदराबाद के 2 विकेट लिए और सिर्फ 2 रन ही दिए।

1. फर्ग्यूसन ने KKR के लिए अपने पहले ही मैच में पासा पलटा (KKR vs SRH, मैच नंबर- 35) कोलकाता ने इस सीजन में अच्छी शुरुआत की थी। उसे अपने पहले 6 में से 4 मैचों में जीत हासिल की। इसके बाद अगले दो मैचों में उसे हार का सामना करना पड़ा। जिसके बाद KKR ने लोकी फर्ग्यूसन को टीम में शामिल किया। सीजन का 35वां मैच फर्ग्यूसन का पहला मैच रहा।

मैच में टॉस हारकर पहले बल्लेबाजी करते हुए कोलकाता ने 20 ओवर में 163 रन बनाए। जवाब में फर्ग्यूसन की शानदार गेंदबाजी की बदौलत हैदराबाद की टीम 163 रन ही बना पाई और मैच टाई हो गया। उन्होंने 4 ओवर में 15 रन देकर 3 विकेट लिए।

इसके बाद सुपर ओवर में कोलकाता की ओर से फर्ग्यूसन ही बॉलिंग करने आए। उन्होंने 3 बॉल पर हैदराबाद के 2 विकेट लिए और सिर्फ 2 रन ही दिए। 3 रन के टारगेट को कोलकाता ने 4 बॉल में हासिल कर लिया। इस तरह कोलकाता को फर्ग्यूसन को टीम में शामिल करने का फैसला मैच का टर्निंग पॉइंट रहा।

मुंबई के खिलाफ शमी ने सुपरओवर में 6 में से 4 बॉल यॉर्कर फेंकी थी।

2. शमी के यॉर्कर गेंदों ने मुंबई से जीत छीनी (KXIP vs MI, मैच नंबर- 36) किंग्स इलेवन पंजाब और मुंबई इंडियंस के बीच 36वें मैच में दो सुपर ओवर खेले गए थे। पहले सुपर ओवर में पंजाब ने 5 रन बनाए थे। इसके जवाब में मोहम्मद शमी की शानदार गेंदबाजी की बदौलत मुंबई भी 5 रन ही बना सकी थी। शमी ने 6 में से 4 बॉल यॉर्कर फेंकी थी। किसी ने नहीं सोचा था कि पंजाब यह मैच इस तरह बचा ले जाएगी।

इसके बाद मैच दूसरे सुपर ओवर में गया। मुंबई ने 12 रन का टारगेट दिया, जिसे पंजाब ने 4 बॉल में ही हासिल कर लिया।

सुनील नरेन ने पंजाब के खिलाफ डेथ ओवर में बल्लेबाजों को रन बनाने का कोई मौका नहीं दिया।

3. नरेन की डेथ ओवर में घातक गेंदबाजी (KKR vs KXIP, मैच नंबर- 24) कोलकाता नाइट राइडर्स के पूर्व कप्तान दिनेश कार्तिक ने सीजन के 24वें मैच में सुनील नरेन को डेथ ओवर्स में गेंदबाजी दी। उनका यह निर्णय सही साबित हुआ और कोलकाता ने ये मैच अपने नाम किया। 24वें मैच में कोलकाता ने पंजाब के सामने 165 रन का टारगेट रखा था। पंजाब 17 ओवर में 1 विकेट खोकर 143 रन बना लिए थे।

ऐसा लग रहा था पंजाब यह मैच बेहद आसानी से जीत जाएगी। उस वक्त केएल राहुल 70 रन और निकोलस पूरन 9 रन बनाकर खेल रहे थे। तभी नरेन की कमाल की बॉलिंग ने पंजाब को बैकफुट पर खड़ा कर दिया। पंजाब को आखिरी 3 ओवर में जीत के लिए 22 रन बनाने थे।

18वें ओवर में बॉलिंग करने आए नरेन ने पहले तो पूरन को बोल्ड किया। फिर ओवर में उन्होंने सिर्फ 2 रन दिए। आखिरी ओवर में किंग्स को जीत के लिए 14 रन की दरकार थी। नरेन एक बार फिर बॉलिंग करने आए। उनके सामने मैक्सवेल और मनदीप बल्लेबाजी कर रहे थे। नरेन ने इस ओवर में 11 रन दिए और मनदीप का विकेट लिया। कोलकाता ने पंजाब को 2 रन से हरा दिया था।

पंजाब के खिलाफ 31वें मैच में डिविलियर्स को 6वें नंबर पर बैटिंग के लिए भेजा गया।

4. डिविलियर्स को बेंगलुरु ने 6वें नंबर पर बैटिंग के लिए उतारा, मैच हारे (RCB vs KXIP, मैच नंबर-31) पंजाब के खिलाफ सीजन के 31वें मैच में बेंगलुरु ने टॉस जीतकर पहले बैटिंग करने का फैसला किया। टीम मैनेजमेंट ने एबी डिविलियर्स को 6वें नंबर पर बल्लेबाजी के लिए भेजा। बेंगलुरु के कप्तान कोहली का यह निर्णय उनकी टीम के लिए भारी पड़ा। बेंगलुरु की टीम 20 ओवर में 171 रन ही बना सकी। पंजाब ने यह मैच जीत ��र टूर्नामेंट में वापसी की।

डिविलियर्स ने आईपीएल में सिर्फ 4 बार 6वें नंबर या इससे नीचे बल्लेबाजी की है। इस दौरान उनका बेस्ट स्कोर 33 रन रहा है। 2012 में बेंगलुरु की ओर से खेलते हुए डिविलियर्स ने पुणे वॉरियर्स के खिलाफ 33 रन बनाए थे। चारों मैच में उन्होंने कुल 51 (33, 10, 6, 2) रन बनाए हैं।

राजस्थान के खिलाफ चौथे मैच में धोनी 7वें नंबर पर बल्लेबाजी करने उतरे। वह 17 बॉल पर 29 रन बनाकर नाबाद रहे।

5. 7वें नंबर पर बैटिंग करने आए धोनी, हाथ से फिसला मैच (CSK vs RR, मैच नंबर- 4) चेन्नई ने सीजन की शुरुआत काफी अच्छे नोट पर की थी। पहले ही मैच में उन्होंने मुंबई को हराया था। हालांकि, इसके बाद उनकी ट्रेन पटरी से उतर गई और प्ले-ऑफ से बाहर होने वाली पहली टीम बनी। राजस्थान रॉयल्स के खिलाफ अपने दूसरे मैच में CSK के कप्तान महेंद्र सिंह धोनी 7वें नंबर पर बल्लेबाजी करने उतरे।

DUBAI: Three-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been knocked out of the race to secure an IPL playoffs‘ berth for the first time in 13 years after Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by eight wickets in Abu Dhabi. However, CSK endured an inconsistent run in this IPL. Dhoni’s men notched up an eight-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday to keep their slim chances alive for a few hours. In the points table, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and RCB are already on 14 points with Kolkata Knight Riders at 12 with three games to go, followed by Kings XI Punjab and RR — both on 10 points each with three and two matches left, respectively. “We don’t really have a chance to make it to the play-offs, leave the mathematical part of it,” Dhoni had said after CSK beat RCB on Sunday. “You have to enjoy the game no matter where you are on the table. If you are not enjoying the cricket, it can become cruel and painful. So I am glad with how the youngsters have responded.”

CSK had won back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011, before reclaiming the crown in 2018 following a two year gap. They also ended up runners-up five times. CSK will take on KKR on Thursday in their penultimate game.

With just four foreigners allowed and the likes of Eoin Morgan, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and the most expensive buy of the season Pat Cummins in the KKR XI, it took Lockie more than half of the tournament to make his way onto the field.

Many feel Lockie should have been tried out much earlier, since he bowls at good pace, has a good yorker and great slow variations. Pace bowlers remember have been a big factor as far as team success is concerned this season. Delhi Capitals have been benefitting from the in roads their pace duo Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje provide. Mumbai Indians have also been consistently at the top of the table thanks largely to their fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, James Pattinson and now Nathan Coulter-Nile.

Lockie also showed how his skiddy pace can a terrific asset for KKR in his first match of the season as he single-handedly swung the game in favour of KKR against SRH. One has to wonder if Lockie perhaps should have been given a chance, maybe even in place of Pat Cummins who has been well below par this season. After the match, Lockie explained how he had been regularly training but was nervous and at the same time also comfortable bowling even after not being part of the XI for so long.

“I have been training quite a lot. Feel pretty comfortable while bowling. But obviously had not played for a while so was pretty nervous. Just one of the days when you express yourself and happy how it worked. I tried to keep it pretty simple what I was doing throughout the game. I backed my yorker, backed my slower ball and fortunately got those wickets which was actually nice at that stage,” Lockie said in a chat with Shubman Gill after the match. In the Super Over, Lockie restricted SRH to just 2, making the equation for KKR pretty easy. Talking about it Lockie said that the likes of skipper Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik have a calm mind that allowed him to execute his plans in the high-pressure Super Over. “It’s nice to have guys like Morgs and DK around you who are very calm heads to talk through the plans. I came to Morgs with my plan which was not similar to what was in the game and then stuck to it and it is always nice to get a wicket first-ball, relieves a little bit of stress, restricted them to 2 and gave us an opportunity to win,” Lockie said. Performing in a crunch game after coming in straightaway at the half-way stage of the tournament also helped Lockie garner praise from all around.

Similar to Lockie, there are several other high profile players in different franchises that have still not managed a game this season. Imran Tahir (Chennai Super Kings) – The highest wicket-taker in the 2019 edition of the IPL (26) is yet to play his first match for Chennai this season. Mitchell Santner (Chennai Super Kings) – New Zealand all-rounder Santner, who played 4 matches for Chennai last season has not been part of the CSK playing XI so far. Sandeep Lamichhane (Delhi Capitals) – 20-year-old Sandeep featured in 6 matches for Delhi in 2019 but is yet to play his first match this season. Chris Lynn (Mumbai Indians) – Coming in from Kolkata Knight Riders to MI this season, Lynn is yet to play his first match in the 2020 season for the defending champions.
