Khelo India Games shows PM Modi's interest in harnessing power of youth: Anurag Thakur
The sixth version of the Khelo India Youth Games-2023 took place in four districts of Tamil Nadu for 13 days, ending on January 31. Maharashtra won 158 medals and secured the first position, while Tamil Nadu, the hosting state, and Haryana finished second and third, respectively.

In Chennai on January 31(PTI), the Khelo India Youth Games-2023 wrapped up after 13 days in four districts of Tamil Nadu. Maharashtra bagged the top position with 158 medals, while the host state Tamil Nadu and Haryana secured the second and third spots, respectively.
At the end of the event, Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur highlighted that the Khelo India Games, a vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, provide a platform for young talents to showcase their skills.

The minister in charge, who presented trophies to the winners, stated: "With each Khelo India Youth Games, our reputation has grown. It brings me great pride to mention that 4454 young athletes from 36 States/Union Territories competed in 26 sports, displaying their athletic passion and sportsmanship. The games had nearly equal participation, with 2307 male athletes and 2147 female athletes."

“Over the past 13 days, our state has proudly hosted over 5,400 talented athletes from across the country showcasing their sporting skills in various disciplines.”

On the occasion, the Tamil Nadu Sports Minister announced the launch of the “Kalaignar Sports Kit” scheme in 12,000 village panchayats. “I will be launching the scheme in Tiruchirappalli on February 7.”
Under the scheme, youth will be provided sports equipment. Late DMK president and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi is addressed as ‘Kalaignar.’
Udhayanidhi said the state’s Tamil Nadu Champions Foundation serves as an inspiration to talented athletes, offering financial assistance to those who need it the most.

Dhanvir threw 19.69 meter in his fifth attempt to erase the earlier meet record of 19.34m set by Navtejdeep Singh in 2011. The silver medal in the competition was claimed by Adish Ghildiyal of Uttarakhand. Aniket Kala of Uttarakhand took the bronze. In women's 400 meter hurdles, Priya, representing Kerala, crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 1:02.52 seconds. In doing so, she erased the previous meet record of 1:02.58 seconds set by P O Sanya in Bambolim in 2015. Priya was far ahead of the field with the silver medallist K Prajna of Karnataka trailing nearly three seconds behind. The bronze went to Jyoshna Sabar of Odisha. In women's 200 meter race, Kerala's Ancy Sojan won the gold in 24.91 seconds. The silver medal in the competition went to Kirti Bhoite. The bronze medal went to Giridharani of Tamil Nadu.

City-based designers Harpreet Khalsi and Jyoshna Das showcased designs for the modern bride, keeping the present trend and needs in mind. Harpreet, who presented her design under the label Zovala, played around with fine works on different fabrics to make a statement, both elegant and stylish. “The younger generation wants lehenga, which their parents prefer to see them in a saree on the wedding day. Catering to both tastes, I worked on exquisite lehengas with half saree, instead of dupatta, to drape around it and take a pallu,” she said. Harpreet had earlier worked with renowned fashion designer Ritu Kumar as store head of the latter’s outlet in the city. Hand works by her ‘karigars’ raise the style quotient in all her designs. “I used zardosi, stones and dabka works on velvet, georgette, net sequenced fabric, brocade and silk for this wedding collection,” she said. Jyoshna Das delivered on her promise to give Odisha handloom a lehenga look. Her hand-weaved Bomkai choli and lehenga in Sambalpuri silk was a runaway success on the ramp. Her wedding collection under the label Bivabari included digital print lehenga with zardosi work on the choli, kalamkari patchwork and hand-painted sarees and Sambalpuri frocks. “This collection is a departure from the norms. Sambalpuri or bomkai patterns are not very popular among brides. I hope to change this with these lehengas,” she said. Zardosi works in a choli give it a necklace look, she added. Her design studio, Bivabari, took shape last year with a new concept and designs revolving around Indian textile.
