Twins Gut Out Crazy Win In Chicago!
Twins 7 White Sox 3 W-Pagan (1-0) L-Colome (0-1)
The Chicago White Sox have caught fire with three straight wins after a horrible start. The Sox looked for the sweep on a beautiful day in Chicago today. The Sox bats got to work in the third as Seby Zavala drew a lead-off walk. With two outs, Eloy Jimenez smoked a Pablo Lopez sweeper out to left-center for a two-run homer. This put the Sox up by a pair of runs after three innings of play. Pablo Lopez and Lucas Giolito were dueling it out until the Twins struck in the sixth. Carlos Correa lined a Lucas Giolito slider out to left for a solo homer. Minnesota pulled within a run after six frames. Both starters got through seven soild innings and it was up to the bullpens today. The Twins rallied again in the eighth as Byron Buxton smashed a Reynaldo Lopez slider out to left for a game-tying solo homer. Jhoan Duran got in and out of trouble in the eighth as we headed into the final inning. Kendall Gravemen and Jorge Lopez put up zeroes in the ninth and extra innings were needed. Jimmy Lambert got out of a jam in the tenth and the Twins were held scoreless with the ghost runner. Billy Hamilton was the ghost runner in the tenth and Eloy Jimenez was intentionally walked. Ryan Jeffers could not handle a Brock Stewart slider for a passed ball, which moved up both runners. Oddly enough, Tim Anderson struck out and Luis Robert was walked to load up the bases. Brock Stewart struck out the side and an eleventh inning was needed. Aaron Bummer struck out the side in the eleventh and Emilio Pagan put up a zero to extend the game. The Twins finally broke through in the twelfth as Jose Miranda hit a chopper to short that Tim Anderson couldn’t handle. Trevor Larnach scored on the play to put the Twins up by a run. Joey Gallo drew a walk and Ryan Jeffers couldn’t move up the runners with a bunt. Nick Gordon followed with a run-scoring double to center and the Twins had a 4-2 lead. Max Kepler drew a walk to load up the bases and Carlos Correa knocked in a run with a walk. With two outs, Jorge Polanco drove in a pair with a single to center and the Twins lead grew to five. Jovani Moran came on and Eloy Jimenez hit a run-scoring single to right to inch Chicago within four. Tim Anderson hit into a double play and Luis Robert struck out swinging to end the game. The Twins somehow gutted out a crazy win in Chicago today.
-Final Thoughts- Pablo Lopez rebounded after two bad starts in cold weather. He threw seven solid innings and allowed two runs on six hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. Jhoan Duran walked two and got out of it in the eighth and Jorge Lopez did the same in the ninth. Brock Stewart loaded the bases then struck out the side in the tenth and Emilio Pagan had a clean eleventh. Jovani Moran gave up a run with the ghost runner, but closed the door in the twelfth. The Twins scattered five hits on the day and the offense needs to wake up. They hit 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. The Twins will now head to Cleveland to play the scuffling Indians. Bailey Ober will face Peyton Battenfield in the series opener tomorrow night.

Snakebitten Stanton
http://tinyurl.com/y6jqf5d5 Giancarlo Stanton can’t catch a break. It is doable that he unwittingly walked beneath a ladder or unintentionally broke a mirror in the course of the offseason as a result of he can not seem to keep wholesome proper now. The 29-year-old slugger exited Tuesday’s recreation in opposition to the Blue Jays within the fourth inning with a proper knee bruise. It’s unclear how or when Stanton suffered the damage right now, however it could have occurred on an ungainly headfirst slide into third base within the opening body. It might be unfair and deceptive to characterize Stanton as injury-prone. He’s been extraordinarily sturdy, taking part in no less than 158 of a doable 162 video games in every of the final two seasons. Nevertheless, he’s definitely been tormented by persistent nagging points to date this season. He’s missed time on account of quite a lot of illnesses together with a biceps pressure, shoulder pressure and a calf pressure. Now, he’s coping with a knee problem. Yankees supervisor Aaron Boone informed reporters after the sport that outcomes of checks on Stanton’s knee, which included an MRI, weren’t but accessible. There must be some further readability Wednesday concerning the extent of the damage and whether or not it would lead to any missed time. Clearly, fantasy homeowners will wish to monitor this example carefully within the coming days. Editor’s Word: Keep forward of the competitors from wire to wire with rankings, customizable projections, commerce evaluator, unique columns and extra in our Season Pass. And begin utilizing optimized lineups on Yahoo!, DraftKings and FanDuel with our DFS Toolkit!.     Anderson Suffers Sprained Ankle    Stanton wasn’t the one fantasy famous person to undergo an damage on the East Coast final evening. White Sox’ dynamic shortstop Tim Anderson exited Tuesday’s recreation in opposition to the Red Sox in Fenway Park after struggling an obvious leg damage. He needed to be helped off the sector and could not put any weight on his proper leg. He was injured whereas making a operating throw behind second base. The moist discipline situations seem to have performed a task on this one as Anderson appeared to roll his proper ankle whereas trying an off-balanced throw. He was in vital ache earlier than being carried off. The 26-year-old burgeoning fantasy famous person was within the midst of a formidable power-speed combo marketing campaign, hitting .317/.342/.491 with 11 homers and 15 stolen bases throughout 281 plate appearances. Anderson was identified with a sprained ankle after x-rays got here again unfavorable and will probably be re-evaluated on Wednesday. It seems that Anderson averted main damage, which is a big aid for fantasy homeowners as properly. He’ll doubtless be headed to the 10-day injured listing, however must be able to return after the All-Star break early subsequent month.      Homecoming Half II On the heels of an emotional homecoming for historical slugger Albert Pujols in St. Louis over the weekend, a pair of superstars squarely within the prime of their respective careers, Manny Machado and Gerrit Cole, got here again to hang-out their former organizations on Tuesday evening.  Machado reached base safely in three of his 5 plate appearances and clobbered a solo homer in his return to Baltimore, the town he known as house for seven seasons earlier than being traded to the Dodgers in a blockbuster deal final July and signing a 10-year, $300 million free agent contract with the Padres within the offseason. He obtained a standing ovation from the Orioles’ trustworthy within the opening body earlier than placing out wanting in his first at-bat. Sadly, that was just about the one time they managed to maintain him off the bases on this one. He launched a solo homer to left-center discipline off Jimmy Yacabonis, growing the Padres’ result in 5-1 within the third inning. Sarcastically, the titanic tater marked Machado’s 100th profession house run at Camden Yards. He additionally tacked on an RBI single within the fourth and walked within the sixth.  In the meantime, Cole wasn’t flawless in his first profession begin in opposition to the group that chosen him with the highest total choice within the 2011 MLB draft, however nonetheless managed to reel off six innings of one-run ball in a win over the Pirates. He struck out three batters and in addition issued a pair of walks. The 28-year-old righty recorded a 3.50 ERA over 127 begins for the Pirates earlier than being the centerpiece of a large commerce with the Astros previous to final season. He’s managed to unlock his true potential and evolve right into a respectable fantasy ace during the last two years. He at present ranks second within the majors, trailing solely Nationals ace Max Scherzer, with 151 strikeouts in 102 2/Three innings this season. Story continues   Hicks Headed For Tommy John Fantasy homeowners obtained the official affirmation on Tuesday afternoon that Cardinals nearer Jordan Hicks will endure season-ending Tommy John surgical procedure on Wednesday. The 22-year-old fireballer will doubtless be sidelined till the second half of the 2020 marketing campaign. Previous to the damage, Hicks racked up 14 saves to go together with a 3.14 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 31/11 Okay/BB ratio in 28 2/Three innings. St. Louis GM John Mozeliak confirmed that Carlos Martinez will function the Cardinals’ nearer shifting ahead. He must be owned in all fantasy codecs. The 27-year-old righty has pitched completely in aid since making his season debut on Might 18, permitting 5 earned runs on 11 hits and 5 walks with 14 strikeouts in 15 innings. Martinez has some rapid job safety, however there’s an opportunity that this might devolve right into a full-blown committee scenario if he struggles, given the presence of circling vultures John Gant and Andrew Miller.   The official announcement got here lower than 24 hours after the group revealed that Hicks had a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his proper elbow. The central query for fantasy homeowners to contemplate shifting ahead is whether or not there was a direct correlation between his triple-digit velocity, a dramatic uptick in utilization of his hard-biting slider and this main elbow damage. We’ve witnessed numerous pitchers return from Tommy John surgical procedure at (or near) their earlier degree at exponentially increased charges than a decade in the past. It’s changing into more and more uncommon for a highly-touted prospect to succeed in the large leagues that hasn’t undergone no less than one main surgical procedure. So, it’s not unrealistic to consider that Hicks can come again and return to kind subsequent season, however he’s unlikely to make a major fantasy affect till the 2021 marketing campaign.  If there’s one encouraging takeaway, it’s that elbow points are much less worrisome long-term than shoulder issues. Nevertheless, the truth that he throws so exhausting and depends closely on a violent slider as his fundamental secondary providing, needs to be a priority shifting ahead. In line with Baseball Savant’s database, the 22-year-old righty has thrown 206 pitches in extra of 100 mph this season, which is 107 greater than towering Marlins righty Tayron Guerrero, who’s the subsequent closest on that leaderboard. Final yr, Hicks threw 659 100-plus mph pitches. Merely put, Hicks is a little bit of a historic outlier. Exterior of some peak Aroldis Chapman campaigns in Cincinnati earlier this decade, we haven’t actually seen anybody throw this tough, this usually. From a long-term, keeper and dynasty league perspective, this damage doubtless knocks him outdoors the highest 300 total property shifting ahead. There’s merely an excessive amount of long-term threat from a well being and efficiency standpoint to justify stashing him in shallower codecs.     AL Fast Hits: Shohei Ohtani (elbow) will throw off a mound on Wednesday for the primary time since present process Tommy John surgical procedure final October. … Indians supervisor Terry Francona confirmed Tuesday that Mike Clevinger is “good to go” for Friday’s begin in opposition to the Orioles in Baltimore. … Max Kepler exited Tuesday’s recreation in opposition to the Rays after being hit by a pitch on the proper elbow. Red Sox Stave Off Late Twins Rally For Win.
Twins 6 Red Sox 7 W-Hall (1-0) L-Gearrin (0-1) SV-Feltman (1)
The Minnesota Twins made the short trip across town to play the Boston Red Sox this afternoon. It was a cloudy and windy day in Fort Myers, where a pitcher’s duel broke out at JetBlue Park. Kenta Maeda and Martin Perez tossed up zeroes in the first four innings today. The Twins would finally rally in the sixth inning as Josh Donaldson lined a double to left with one out. Later in the inning, Jake Cave hit a run-scoring single to left to put the Twins up 1-0. The Red Sox would answer in the bottom of the sixth. Kevin Pillar doubled with one out and JD Martinez hit an RBI single to left. This knotted the game at one apiece after six innings of play. The Twins got back to work in the seventh against Matt Hall. Alex Kiriloff led-off with a double to left and Royce Lewis singled to left. Nick Gordon hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Kiriloff and put the Twins back up 2-1. Max Kepler drew a walk and Luis Arraez lined a single to left. Trevor Larnach hit into a fielder’s choice that scored a run and the Twins extended their lead to two runs. The Red Sox would answer in the bottom of the seventh. Nick Longhi led-off with a double and Jantzen Witte singled to put the Sox in business. John Andreoli delivered a run-scoring single to left and the Sox were within a run. Johan Mieses drew a one-out walk to load up the bases for Boston. The next batter, Jonathan Lucroy drove in a pair with a double to left and the Red Sox took a 4-3 lead. Tyler Esplin hit an RBI groundout to extend the Boston lead to two runs after seven frames. The Red Sox added to their lead in the eighth. Jantzen Witte and John Andreoli singled with two outs and Chad De La Guerra tripled both of them home. The Red Sox extended their lead to 7-3 after eight innings. The Twins would not give up in the ninth. Aaron Whitfield singled and Ramon Flores walked to ignite a rally. Trevor Larnach hit a run-scoring single to right and the Twins were within three runs. Caleb Hamilton hit an RBI groundout and the Twins were within two runs. Wilfredo Tovar kept the chain moving with a base hit to right and Durbin Feltman was forced to come in for the Red Sox. Tomas Telis greeted him with an RBI single to right and the Twins inched within a run. Jimmy Kerrigan flew out to center to end the game as the Red Sox held on for the win today.
-Final Thoughts- Kenta Maeda looked sharp with four scoreless innings. He allowed two hits and struck out six on the day. Tyler Duffey had a scoreless fifth, Matt Wisler gave up a run in the sixth, and Cory Gearrin gave up four runs in the seventh. Sam Clay gave up two more runs in the eighth. Josh Donaldson and Tomas Telis led the way with two hits each. The Twins hit 6-for-17 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Max Kepler got his first start in center field of the spring. There has been no word on Byron Buxton’s status, so maybe he won’t be ready for the start of the season. Tomorrow, the Twins return home to play the Cardinals. Kwang-Hyun Kim will face Randy Dobnak in a Monday matinee.

Chicago White Sox-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
9.16.19-Reynaldo Lopez (9-13) 5.35 ERA Vs. Jose Berrios RHP (12-8) 3.63 ERA
9.17.19-Lucas Giolito RHP (14-9) 3.41 ERA Vs. Martin Perez LHP (10-7) 4.89 ERA
9.18.19-Dylan Covey RHP (1-8) 7.98 ERA Vs. Jake Odorizzi RHP (14-6) 3.60 ERA
The White Sox At A Glance- The White Sox have struggled since we last saw them. They are (5-11) since August 29th, but are still in third place in the American League Central. Since we last saw the Sox, Jon Jay went on the injured list with a hip issue and the team made several call-ups. Manny Banuelos, Carson Fulmer, Daniel Palka, Danny Mendick, Dylan Covey, Zack Collins, and Jose Ruiz were all called up. The Sox roster sits at 32 men as of now. The White Sox lost two out of three games to the Mariners in Seattle this weekend. Yoan Moncada hit 7-for-14 with four RBI’s in Seattle. Eloy Jimenez went 6-for-12 with a homer and two RBI’s against the Mariners. Adam Engel even had two homers against the Mariners this weekend. The White Sox are getting a good look at catcher Zack Collins, who play in all three games this weekend. The starting pitching wasn’t good in Seattle. Dylan Covey went 3 2/3 innings, Dylan Cease threw five solid innings, and Ivan Nova only lasted 3 1/3 innings on Sunday. Hector Santiago did a bulk of the relief work with 3 2/3 innings. He threw 90 pitches, so he will likely be out for the first two days of this series. Jimmy Cordero, Aaron Bummer, and Evan Marshall continue to set up Alex Colome. Colome gave up a walk-off homer to Omar Narvaez on Saturday night.
The Twins At A Glance- The Minnesota Twins took two out of three from the Cleveland Indians and are 4.5 games ahead of the Indians for first place in the American league Central. They head home for their last homestand this week. First up is three games with the White Sox. The Twins have three starting pitchers for this series. Jose Berrios, Martin Perez, and Jake Odorizzi will all get starts this week. Eddie Rosario hit 4-for- 12 with three homers and four RBI’s in the Cleveland series. He has 31 homers and 99 RBI’s on the season. Miguel Sano hit two homers with five RBI’s against the Indians this weekend. Max Kepler sat out on Sunday as he is getting back from that chest injury. Marwin Gonzalez continues to take batting practice and should be getting closer. Nelson Cruz was out Sunday after playing in both games on Saturday. Jake Cave returned with two hits on Sunday. Ronald Torreyes was pinch-hit for midway through Sunday’s game. The Twins had three bullpen games this weekend, so the starters need to go deep into games. Jorge Alcala, Trevor Hildenberger, and Kohl Stewart were the lone guys not to pitch this weekend. Kyle Gibson came out of the bullpen on Sunday, so I’m not sure what that means for his next start.
What To Watch For- The Twins are (11-5) against the White Sox in 2019. Minnesota is (4-2) in games played at Target Field. Reynaldo Lopez is (1-3) with a 5.30 ERA in six starts against the Twins. Max Kepler has two career home runs off him. Jose Berrios is (10-2) with a 2.40 ERA in thirteen starts versus the Sox. James McCann has three homers off him. Lucas Giolito is (4-5) with a 4.58 ERA in ten starts versus the Twins. Nelson Cruz had three career homers off him. Martin Perez is (3-2) with a 4.81 ERA in five starts against the Twins. Dylan Covey is (0-4) with a 7.30 ERA in six games against the Twins. Jake Odorizzi is (3-3) with a 3.20 ERA in nine starts against the Sox. Jose Abreu has homered off Taylor Rogers twice. Nelson Cruz is hitting .471 with eight homers and twenty-three RBI’s against the White Sox this season. Overall, the Twins Magic Number is nine and everyone would love to see it go down this week. The Twins play Monday and the Indians don’t, so that makes up for the half game in the standings for the rest of the year.

Reds' Dietrich hits three homers
http://tinyurl.com/yxowvse8 Derek Dietrich had a career-high three home runs and drove in six to lead the Cincinnati Reds to an 11-6 win against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night. Dietrich blasted two-run homers in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings. The run support was more than enough for Cincinnati starter Lucas Sims in his season debut. Sims, who was recalled from Triple-A Louisville earlier in the day, was working on a shutout before giving up a grand slam to Kevin Newman in the eighth. Sims went 7 1/3 innings, the longest outing of the season by a Cincinnati starter, allowing four runs and six hits, striking out nine and walking one. Tucker Barnhart drove in three runs, Jose Iglesias had two hits and scored twice, and Jose Peraza homered for the Reds. Elias Diaz had two hits for the Pirates, including a two-run double in the ninth inning, and Starling Marte also had two hits. Indians 7, Red Sox 5 Jordan Luplow hit a two-run double to complete a five-run, ninth-inning rally as Cleveland stunned host Boston. The Indians trailed 5-2 entering the frame and appeared headed to their eighth loss in their last nine games before Roberto Perez greeted Red Sox reliever Ryan Brasier with a solo home run. After Jake Bauers walked, Greg Allen roped a two-run homer to right to knot the score. Travis Lakins (0-1) took over for the Red Sox and hit the first man he faced before walking two more to load the bases for Luplow, who crushed a ball that just eluded Mookie Betts in right for the game-winning hit. Rays 3, Blue Jays 1 Avisail Garcia hit an inside-the-park homer, Austin Meadows also homered, five Tampa Bay pitchers combined on a six-hitter, and the Rays defeated Toronto in St. Petersburg, Fla. Ryne Stanek, employed as an opener for the 15th time this season, allowed only a hit and a walk in his two scoreless innings. He struck out one. Ryan Yarbrough (4-1) took over in the third inning and held Toronto to two hits and a walk while striking out one in 3 2/3 shutout innings. Diego Castillo allowed a single, a double and Brandon Drury’s sacrifice fly in the ninth while picking up his sixth save of the season. Astros 9, Cubs 6 Alex Bregman recorded his fourth career multi-homer game, and Houston used a balanced attack to top visiting Chicago. Astros manager A.J. Hinch recorded his 500th career victory as Houston overcame a pair of three-run innings from the Cubs, who slugged five home runs. Houston did so despite fielding a lineup loaded with replacements, including a trio of starters who were in the minor leagues just last week. Bregman set a club record with 12 homers this month, bypassing the mark of 11 set by Jimmy Wynn in May 1969. White Sox 2, Royals 1 (completion of suspended game) Yolmer Sanchez ripped a walk-off RBI single with one out in the ninth inning as host Chicago beat Kansas City in the completion of a game that was suspended Monday in the fifth inning due to rain. James McCann highlighted his fifth three-hit performance of the season with a double in the ninth. Sanchez, who had an RBI single in the fifth inning before the game was suspended on Monday, deposited a pitch from Kevin McCarthy past a five-man infield to plate McCann to end Chicago’s three-game skid. White Sox relievers Aaron Bummer, Evan Marshall and Alex Colome (2-0) combined to allow one hit over four scoreless innings upon the resumption of the game. Colome required just nine pitches to retire the side in the ninth. White Sox 4, Royals 3 Lucas Giolito pitched eight strong innings, and Charlie Tilson drove in the go-ahead run with a fourth-inning single to boost host Chicago over Kansas City in the teams’ regularly scheduled game. Bidding for his third successive complete game, Giolito came within one inning of that feat while allowing three runs on three hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts. Colome struck out two in a perfect ninth in the nightcap to earn his 10th save in as many opportunities. The White Sox had 12 hits, all singles. Leury Garcia went 3-for-4 with an RBI while James McCann also had three hits. Tilson and Jose Rondon both added two hits for Chicago. Padres 5, Yankees 4 Eric Hosmer capped a four-run first inning by hitting a three-run homer, and San Diego held on for a victory at New York. The Padres took a four-run lead four batters in after New York third baseman DJ LeMahieu misplayed a grounder by leadoff man Greg Garcia for an error. Franmil Reyes singled, and Manny Machado hit a bloop RBI single. Hosmer then hit his ninth home run. Story continues Gary Sanchez homered for the Yankees, who lost for only the third time in their past 15 games. Tigers 3, Orioles 0 Niko Goodrum homered, and Matthew Boyd threw six-plus solid innings as Detroit won at Baltimore. The Tigers scored runs in the first and second innings, and that gave Boyd all the support that he needed. Detroit won for just the second time in the past 14 games. Boyd (5-4) scattered six hits and fanned eight while walking just one and throwing 66 strikes on 96 pitches. Detroit eventually used four relief pitchers over the final three innings, and Shane Greene closed it in the ninth for his 17th save. Phillies 4, Cardinals 3 Cesar Hernandez homered, Bryce Harper doubled twice and added two RBIs to lift host Philadelphia past St. Louis. It was the 10th time this season that Harper recorded multiple RBIs in the same game. Rhys Hoskins also had two hits for the Phillies, who won their seventh one-run game this season. Philadelphia’s Nick Pivetta (3-1) made his first start since April 16, tossing five innings and giving up three hits and three runs while striking out six and walking two. Hector Neris threw a scoreless ninth for his 10th save in 10 chances. Nationals 5, Braves 4 Howie Kendrick had three hits, including a home run, and Stephen Strasburg earned his 99th career victory as visiting Washington beat Atlanta. Kendrick was 3-for-5 with a double, his ninth home run and two runs. Strasburg (5-3) pitched seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits. He struck out 11, matching his season high, and walked two. Sean Doolittle struck out the side in the ninth to earn his 10th save. Dansby Swanson singled with two outs, but Doolittle fanned Freddie Freeman to end the game. Marlins 11, Giants 3 Jorge Alfaro and Garrett Cooper crushed rare three-run homers, leading host Miami to a win over San Francisco. Before Tuesday, the last time the Marlins had even one three-run homer was on Sept. 26, 2018. But the Marlins were on the attack on Tuesday, stroking 14 hits to win a battle between the two teams with the worst records in the National League. Miami rookie Harold Ramirez, 24, led the hit parade, going 3-for-4. Ramirez, who made his major league debut on May 11, is batting .413. In all, five Marlins totaled at least two hits, including Cooper and Alfaro, who each went 2-for-4. Twins 5, Brewers 3 Eddie Rosario hit a two-run homer and Max Kepler had a two-run double to highlight a five-run seventh inning and lead Minnesota past Milwaukee in Minneapolis. Matt Magill (1-0) picked up the win in relief of Devin Smeltzer, who pitched six shutout innings in his major league debut. Ryne Harper got Hernan Perez to pop out to end the game and earn his first major league save as Minnesota improved to 14-3 following a loss this season. Smeltzer, obtained from the Dodgers at the trade deadline last season as part of the deal that sent Brian Dozier to Los Angeles, allowed three hits and didn’t walk a batter while striking out seven, including Lorenzo Cain three times. Rockies 6, Diamondbacks 2 Chris Iannetta hit a tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning, and Colorado beat Arizona in Denver. Iannetta and Ian Desmond finished with two hits apiece, Ryan McMahon had a two-run double, and Jairo Diaz (1-0) pitched one scoreless inning to earn his first major league win. Chad Bettis pitched two shutout innings for his first career save. Eduardo Escobar homered and drove in both runs for the Diamondbacks. Escobar, Ketel Marte, Tim Locastro and Nick Ahmed had two hits each for Arizona. –Field Level Media Source link
