Brazilian Death Metallers CRYPTA Announce 'Shades Of Sorrow' Album

Brazilian death metallers CRYPTA will relase their second album, "Shades Of Sorrow", on August 4, 2023 via Napalm Records. Formed in 2019 by former NERVOSA members Luana Dametto (drums) and Fernanda Lira (vocals),and now featuring guitarists Tainá Bergamaschi and Jessica di Falchi, CRYPTA released its acclaimed first album, "Echoes Of The Soul", in 2021. The LP landed at No. 55 on the official German album chart and debuted at No. 15 on both the U.S. Hard Music Albums and Top New Artist Albums charts.

On "Shades Of Sorrow", CRYPTA stays true to its unique sound that was introduced on "Echoes Of The Soul", blending classic and modern death metal with significant extreme and black metal elements. Straight from the burning gates of death metal salvation, their brand new single, "Lord Of Ruins", serves as a relentless harbinger of what the new album has to offer and a smashing dose of true CRYPTA sound, leaving the listener breathless. The song is highlighted by a demonic, captivating official video that showcases the full power of the matchless combination.

Dametto comments on "Lord Of Ruins": "'Lord Of Ruins' was our pick for a first single 'cause it combines both melodic and aggressive melodies that are present throughout the whole album. So we thought it's a good representation of what to expect of the whole piece. It's also the final song of the record and it has a very impactful meaning. It’s the closure of the whole album concept and it also fits perfectly to the artwork concept we had in mind."

As a raging monster on its own, "Shades Of Sorrow" begins with the instrumental piano intro track "The Aftermath", creating an ominous atmosphere before "Dark Clouds" kicks straight off with feral growls to drop jaws, showcasing the full extent of the band’s striking interplay from the very first second. "Poisonous Apathy" features electrifying guitar sounds and prominent hard-hitting bass, creeping into the listener's brain. Ruthless "The Outsider" unleashes a massive drum attack and another ferocity of coals, before it fades into a softer outro that melts seamlessly into the intro of "Stronghold", one of the slower and more melodic tracks on the album. Outstanding death metal drumming on "The Other Side of Anger" sets the scene for threatening vocals, evoking an uncontrollable storm. Dark and deep instrumental piano interlude "The Limbo" acts as an intro to the impressive guitar work on "Trial Of Traitors". Following the eerie, haunting "Lullaby For The Forsaken" comes "Agents Of Chaos", showcasing the undeniable talent of the band with its many changes. Relentless death metal tracks "Lift The Blindfold" and "Lord Of Ruins" offer the last dose of true CRYPTA sound, leaving the listener breathless before the beautiful instrumental outro "The Closure" wraps the album up.

Lira comments on "Shades Of Sorrow": "'Shades Of Sorrow' is a semi-concept album which meaning describes a journey through the depths of our psyche when facing tough battles. It's a trip to the many shades of pain we sometimes have to face while enduring our lives challenges. The songs are the perfect gloomy, dark, emotional soundtrack for this journey."

"Shades Of Sorrow" was recorded at Family Mob Studio, mixed by Daniel Bergstrand at 33 in Stockholm, Sweden and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studio.

Shades of Sorrow Over North America Tour: Crypta Live @ Bogg’s Social & Supply!

Last year during the US Tour of Terror at The Masquerade in Atlanta, Morbid Angel brought a band named Crypta out on tour with them. After seeing the carnage and mayhem that is Crypta, when they announced their first-ever United States headlining tour, I knew that I had to be there. Crypta is a death metal band from Sao Paulo, Brazil that formed during the Summer of 2019. The band features Fernanda Lira (bass/vocals), Jéssica di Falchi (guitar), Tainá Bergamaschi (guitar), and Luana Dametto (drums). Crypta has released two (2) LPs and seven (7) singles. The latest album, Shades of Sorrow was released August 4th, 2023, on Napalm Records. It is also worth noting that Luana and Fernanda previously played together in the Brazilian thrash/death metal band Nervosa.

Leading up to Morbid Angel’s US Tour of Terror last year, I listened to Crypta’s debut album, Echoes of the Soul, steadily on repeat getting ready for that show. Crypta quickly became a band that I put in my musical rotation daily. I knew that this band was going to make some magic in the future, and I was excited to listen to their growth. So, when Crypta announced the Shades of Sorrow Over North America Tour 2024, I added a reminder to make sure I would not miss their Atlanta date. Crypta’s Shades of Sorrow Over North America Tour 2024 kicked off in beautiful San Juan, Puerto Rico on January 27th, and will continue until the tour finale in Seattle, Washington on March 2nd, 2024. Almost halfway through their tour, Crypta stopped by Bogg’s Social and Supply in Atlanta, Ga. to perform with local Atlanta area bands Murder Van and Malefic.

Murder Van is a death/thrash metal band from Atlanta, Ga. that formed in 2018. Murder Van includes DeathRay (bass), Drew Verstraete (drums), and Skraw Tharp (guitar/vocals). They have independently released one (1) LP, one (1) EP, and two (2) singles. Murder Van was a good choice to kick off the festivities, as they played some of their hardest and most brutal songs for the early crowd. And in return, the crowd showed their utmost appreciation for this insane set from Murder Van. Even Brent Hinds (Mastodon guitarist) showed up this evening to support his Atlanta buds. That is what Atlanta does, always coming out and supporting the homies! This was my first time checking them out and I hope to see them again soon.

Malefic is a black/death metal band from Marietta, Ga. that has been active from 2003 to 2010, 2013-present. Malefic currently consists of Sam Williams (guitars), Jason Da Vila (guitars), Andy McGraw (bass), and Aaron Baumoel (drums). This quartet was crammed on stage but made the best of it with another ferocious set for those who came out early to the show. It is not often that you see a drummer take the lead singing duties, but Aaron is a phenomenal dual performer. Crashing hard on the drums and delivering some vicious vocals while Sam, Jason, and Andy shred on their axes. Just like Murder Van, I must admit that I have not seen Malefic before this evening, and I am ashamed of myself for missing out on some wild metal in the past. Support your local bands wherever you may live. There are a lot of great and unknown artists out there that need to be heard.

Now after the opening bands helped destroy some ear drums with their ferocious sets, it was time for Crypta to take the stage. Getting the opportunity to see Crypta perform in such an intimate setting at Bogg’s Social was electrifying, especially with the energy that the band exhibits during their dynamic live shows. Crypta is a band that I will make every opportunity to see when they come near my area, and if you ever get a chance to see them then you will know exactly what I mean. Between Jessica and Taina’s lethal assault on guitar, Luana’s ability to blast some ferocious beats on the drums, or Fernanda’s wicked vocals that often remind me of the late great Chuck Schuldiner from the legendary death metal band Death.

Idén áprilisban jelentette be a Sonia Nusselder, alias Anubis, hogy elhagyja a Crypta fedélzetét, amely csapat 2020-ban alakult a brazil Nervosából ismert Fernanda Lirának és Luana Damettónak köszönhetően. Tainá Bergamaschí és Sonia csatlakoztak gitárosokként, ám a holland zenészlány szeretett volna másik csapatára, a Cobra Spell-re koncentrálni, így a kilépés mellett döntött.

Fernanda leszögezte: a szétválás barátsággal zajlott le, és ideiglenesen Jéssica di Falchi veszi át Sonia helyét a turnékon, illetve Luanával már elemzik pár jelentkező anyagát.

Azonban két nappal ezelőtt a lányok Facebookjukon jelentették be, hogy Jéssica végleg marad a csapatban.

Azon felül, hogy kivételes gitáros, Jéssica egy nagyon kedves ember, akivel könnyű megtalálni a közös hangot, szuper tevékeny és kreatív. Semmi kétség afelől, hogy a zenekar számos vonatkozásához adni fog – nagy megtiszteltetés, hogy mostantól ő is a családunk tagja!

– lelkendezett a zenekar, Jéssica pedig eképpen köszönte meg csapattársai bizalmát:

Episodio 7 - dialogo intimo

(Contiene spoiler fuori tempo massimo, quindi anche no)

E quindi Fabio ha ragione quando mi dice che dico tanto di voler stare per conto mio in questo periodo, ma non si capisce come mai invece è un periodo in cui la gente esce dalle fottute pareti.

Però la verità è che la solitudine è uno stato mentale, voglio sentirmi sola nonostante effettivamente la vita stia cercando di evitarmelo. Non è un problema.

Ieri è stata domenica ed è stata la prima domenica che sono riuscita a trascorrere a casa dopo tanto tempo, non propriamente da sola, ho dovuto espletare qualche obbligo sociale, con molto piacere, tanto che Paolino è riuscito a dirmi in tre minuti di conversazione che venerdì sera in coope ha scopato in bagno con una vecchia amica, se considerate che io con Paolino c’ho parlato una sola volta perchè ha voluto farmi un gioco di prestigio (riuscitissimo) ed ero ubriaca e non so se ha 57 anni o 879 ecco il quadro della mia vita al momento.

Ho pranzato in compagnia all’aperto perchè mi servivano dei fiammiferi e son dovuta andare dal tabaccaio, ero in bici e ho beccato Luca e mi ha chiesto se volevamo mangiare col resto della truppa con cui stava organizzando una cosa e allora mi son detta vabbene, c’era il sole e io avevo con me il libro e allora dico ne approfitto per andare a leggere al parchetto quello lontano da tutto, nel quartiere etnico, quello pieno di extracomunitari che mi piace da morire perchè all’avvicinarsi delle ore dei pasti si sente l’odore delle spezie e il silenzio, in quel posto pieno di gente è assordante il silenzio che riescono a fare.

L’ultima volta che andai lì a leggere stavo leggendo Diario di Etty Hillesum e quindi quel posto per me è un posto di pace e serenità nonostante la tragedia, poi ottobre è così bello all’aperto e ieri il sole era perfetto e l’aria era perfetta e io avevo con me Dune.

In questo periodo non mi viene difficile isolarmi, ogni qualvolta mi serve allontanarmi dalla vita vado su Arrakis e penso all’universalità di ogni cosa.

Ieri tra le pagine digitali mi è morto Kynes, la morte di Kynes non dovrebbe essere una sorpresa perchè nel film muore pure, ma nel libro la sua morte dura pagine ed è atroce e poetica. Mentre viene circondato dai falchi pronti ad agire appena avesse esalato il suo ultimo respiro lui, in una sorta di allucinazione pre morte, parla col padre di uomo e natura, delle leggi universali che ci guidano da che esistiamo, tutto in natura si ripete, ogni volta in un modo diverso, ma la natura riprenderà sempre il suo posto, non importa quanto l’uomo rubi o saccheggi, la natura riprenderà sempre ciò che è suo.

Però la natura lo fa inesorabilmente salvando se stessa adattandosi ad ogni contesto, l’uomo invece no e Arrakis è l’ultima fermata.

You cannot go on forever stealing what you need without regard to those who come after.

E così Stilgar qualche decina di pagine dopo, presenta i Fremen a Lady Jessica e afferma che l’unico scopo dell’uomo su Arrakis è quello di renderlo di nuovo abitabile per l’uomo dovessero metterci cinquecento anni, quindi non per i suoi figli o per i figli dei suoi figli o per i figli dei figli dei suoi figli, ma accadrà.

The slow way is the safe way.

E lì mi chiedo se anche adattare ancora il pianeta all’uomo non sia sempre e comunque manomettere la natura al servizio dell’umanità, sempre e per sempre la stessa ripetizione, ma anche il libro lo dice, quando Kynes ha una sorta di rivelazione nell’istante in cui ci lascia: the most persistent principles of the universe were accident and error.

Ero da sola e gli alberi intorno facevano quel rumore che si sente quando lasciano cadere tutto quello che hanno addosso e c’era silenzio, ma allo stesso tempo rumore di tonfi, rami, foglie in movimento anche se tutto sembrava fermo, una farfalla arancione si ferma sul mio braccio e mi guarda, son passati dei minuti interi in cui l’unica cosa che mi riportava nel presente era il mio stesso respiro.

Anche io sto cercando di lascare che delle parti di me muoiano e cadano come foglie secche o frutti marci, ma non sono un albero.

Dopo un paio di ore così vado via, passo a salutare, è in questo frangente che incontro Paolino(che non ricordava il mio nome) e poi Enrico, con cui concordiamo una serata di Nemesis giovedì.

Torno a casa, metto insieme tutto il materiale per la meditazione, candele, acqua di rose, rose e per due ore mi sono assentata da tutto.

Non sono brava con la meditazione, è difficile, la mia testa è un vortice e io sono debole, mi rendo conto che lo stato di vuoto mentale lo raggiungo e lo tocco solo per qualche istante poi torno umana e imperfetta, ma diventerò tutt’uno con l’universo prima o poi.

Però la pace che resta dopo, il rilassamento delle membra e la gioia nelle cose comuni, che erroneamente vengono considerate piccole, è tutto wholesome, che non so dire in italiano.

Più che isolamento il mio vuole essere rallentamento, un percorso verso la presenza, il rendermi conto, alleggerirmi per avere più spazio e quindi tempo e poi non distinguere più l’uno dall’altro.

Voi sapete cosa ci devo fare con gli oggetti che mi restano dopo averli usati per un incantesimo? Tipo le foglie di alloro posso usarle per cucinare o no?
