I heard of a theory that says Medb and Morgana are the same character, or at least Morgana is inspired by Medb. The Throne of Heroes would probably still consider them different people, but imagine in a remote timeline that Medb is Mordred's mom
I think you might be confusing Morgan Le Fay and Morrígan being considered the same character because a lot of researchers think the Celtic stories later show up as Arthurian ones. Kind of like how the Romans asked the Greeks if they could see their homework. After Christians decided to nerf several characters because “ùwú only one god!” Medb is considered to be the inspiration/actually is Queen Mab in Shakespear’s play to some researchers. If it’s true, that would mean she’s a queen of fae instead of a goddess because of the nerf
Medb is an entirely different character/ goddess than Morrígan. Their powers DO overlap (as gods tend to do in the same culture sometimes), but they are both in the same story doing different things. They’re both considered a sovereignty goddess, but Medb is a fertility goddess with ties to marriage, life, and women’s rights whereas Morrígan is a shapeshifter related to war, death, and doom. It’s why I joke around that Medb is an alpha queen bee prep and Morrígan is her antisocial furry goth best friend. They’ve never actually met as far as I remember, but I can say whatever I want
Now the theory of Medb being Morrigan is simply just because of how she goes after FGO Cú Chulainn all lovey dovey since in the Celtic stories she’s pretty pissed off that he suddenly shows up as Conchobar’s lackey and kills a chunk of her army. Morrígan is the one who tried seducing Cú but failed to do so. I guess it’s a reason to come up with a theory, but it’s really lacking since there’s not really too many hints of Morrígan in the storyline. She’s only vaguely mentioned in Lancer’s bond 4 line along with Medb, Scathach, and Emer, and in Caster Cú’s dislikes mentioning Medb and Morrigan. I think if they were the same servant, Cú probably would’ve mentioned something about Medb acting different than he remembered, or there would have been some big reveal at the end of America.
I honestly just think DW looked at Medb being the “Queen of many Loves” and decided to add their idea of a “twist” to say “sexy goddess actually wants to be a pure maiden all along!!! (And probably) Cú Chulainn is the only person to make Medb to want to settle down!!!!” because imo all the Celts (especially Medb) related to Cú’s story are kind of meant to just support him similar to the way Boudicca is squashed to make Nero look better. Like I do like a lot of aspects of FGO’s Medb, but I’m not too crazy about the idea that her personality is most likely Japan’s idea of a sexually liberated woman is seen as “better” when she’s suddenly after one person only. I don’t think it has anything to do with Morrígan at all
That being said, Mordred and Medb would be an interesting duo. He would’ve definitely killed the correct Conchobar for his mom. RIP to all 7 of the Maines but Mordred’s differently.
