the genre shift through the spyro trilogy soundtracks over a few short years is so interesting. like, 1 is very prog-influenced, lots of punchy guitar riffs, keyboard/organ melodies. 2 is a perfect transitional stage, carrying on that style with a little more electronica starting to come in. and then 3 is largely under the umbrella of techno, with the occasional track reminiscent of the first game's rock sound.
it's Super noticeable in how the tone of the boss battle music changed, especially between the latter two games, despite the gameplay in both being relatively similar in a "run around contained dome, dodge, hit guy back" way. bosses in the first were basically the standard platform levels with the addition of a tougher enemy you could fight at your own pace, so the accompanying soundtrack isn't as tense and high-energy and focused in on the threat as in 2 and 3, since it still needs to fit the more explorative/meandering mood of the rest of the level.
