WIP Wednesday (-ish)
Extra/sort of epilogue(?) for All Dreams Were Worth Keeping - the friend group getting ready to destroy Jin Guangshan on Meng Yao’s behalf.
“Ugh are you sure we have to ask him?” Wei Wuxian grumbles - it’s not a whine, thank you very much - but Lan Wangji doesn’t offer him much more reaction than a sidelong glance to let him know he remains unsympathetic to the plight of having Jin Zixuan in his family - well, sort of. He hasn’t proposed to Jiang Yanli yet but everyone and their mother knows that’s where it’s heading.
“He is in the best position to gather what we need,” Lan Wangji replies implacably. He’s working on something important (because everything he does is important, no Wei Wuxian is not super biased) in his home office which means he looks extra devastating in his grandpa reading glasses and his face all lit up by whatever’s on his screen. Him being a little mean is just the icing on the cake, really. Wei Wuxian leans all 6-foot-2-inches of himself against the side of Lan Wangji’s desk and pouts when his partner stays resolutely focused on his work.
“Fine,” Wei Wuxian huffs when Lan Wangji continues to ignore him, despite the fact that his leaning has melted into physically laying on Lan Wangji’s desk - quite temptingly, in his personal opinion, though the twitch in Lan Wangji’s eyebrow is enough to tell him he thoroughly disagrees (for now). “I’ll go call the peacock and tell him to start getting the dirt on his dad. It’s not going to take long though, and I thought we were going to hold off a bit?”
“It will take time to compile enough defenses to leave the Jin counsel too weakened to win the case. The information will filter in quickly, but I will have to prepare carefully.”
“Mmm you always do, so smart Lan Zhan! So thorough,” he teases with a waggle of his eyebrows that makes Lan Wangji’s ears turn red even as he attempts to work around Wei Wuxian sitting on what are likely very important papers (re: the fact that everything Lan Wangji does is important).
His teasing of his boyfriend complete for the time being, Wei Wuxian gracefully retreats after finally winning a kiss to get him to leave, and with a sigh he gives into the inevitable and picks Jin Zixuan’s contact information out of the list in the Saturday night groupchat.
“Why are you calling me.”
Wei Wuxian sighs - of course Jin Zixuan would let it ring through almost to voicemail only to answer with that.
“I am taking valuable time out of my day to call you for something we both want done, and this is how you greet me?”
“I don’t have time for this-“
“If you hang up on me I’m telling jiejie!”
As far as threats go it’s pathetically weak - he highly doubts Jiang Yanli will care too much that Jin Zixuan hung up on him in the middle of the workday - but the one nice thing about Jin Zixuan’s shitty treatment of Jiang Yanli the first time around is that he’s absolutely terrified of ever disappointing her again. Just the threat of it is enough to get him to do all sorts of things, which Wei Wuxian has definitely had fun testing the limits of.
“Alright then get to the point, I have a meeting to go to in like 2 minutes!”
“It’s time to start working on what we talked about last group bitching session. Lan Zhan insists we need your help, and loathe though I am to question my brilliant boyfriend I really have to wonder if you’re the best man for the job or if I should just find a way to plant myself in your dad’s company -“
“Absolutely not, don’t even think about working here. I can do it, just tell me what Wangji needs from me.”
“Fine, fine. Your life and family on the line, man. Here’s what we need-“
