I just tracked down and found the plot breakdown for Same As It Ever Was (plugplug) and it’s a completely different story than the one I wrote. Way more traumatic, way more death, way less soft boys. Not sure I would have enjoyed writing or reading that story.

Sometimes you just need a starting point to protect you from a blank page.

First loop, as expected.

Second loop. Steve thinks it’s a nightmare.

Third loop. Steve tries to change something. Robin dies.

Fourth loop. Steve runs. Refuses to participate. Everyone dies.

Fifth Loop. Steve loses his shit. Everyone dies.

Sixth-Tenth Loop. TRAUMA.

Eleventh Loop. Steve cracks. Tells Nancy. Tries to help him fix it.

Twelfth-seventeenth loops. Watches Nancy die over and over again.

Eighteenth loop. Tells robin.

Nineteenth-twenty second. Same again.

23rd-30th. Drinking. Getting high with Eddie. Making out with Eddie.

31st. SOMEHOW the idea gets floated that they all need to work together on it. Steve says that they all worked together on the plan and everyone had a role to play. Eddie says that clearly something went wrong, so they bring in Robin and Nancy and they try to work out how to get steve out of the loop together.

32nd. Steve tells Nancy, Robin and Eddie everything at the beginning of the loop. Nope. Eddie dies. Steve asks what the hell Dustin and Eddie were doing, finds out that Eddie and Dustin weren’t together.

33rd. Steve tells them all again, losing his shit, rips Eddie a new one for going off plan. “There’s no point in dying like a hero if the fight is unwinnable.” Tells Eddie to go with Dustin no matter what. They go through with the plan, Eddie leaves with Dustin, bats follow them throw, they burn Eddie’s trailer down. Steve etc go through the breach in Vecna’s house and help Lucas with Max (battered, not broken), and the loop doesn’t restart.

Day 1: Steve wakes up in his bed, Eddie’s arm slung over his stomach. Yay they won. Booty.
