Importance of Home Language

Each and every person has the right to speak in a particular language, especially when it is their home language. People express themselves and their feelings through their language. People should not be ashamed to talk in their home language in school or in the work place. A person is usually more comfortable when using their home language for every day conversations. A person’s native dialect is important because it represents their cultural background, identity and the ability to socialize in school and in the work place.

People in a society different from their own can face a lot of difficulties when trying to protect their home language which represents their culture. There are different ways in which a person’s home language can be attacked or threatened. According to Gloria Anzaldua author of “How to Tame a Wild Tongue,” students are punished in order to change the way they speak. She states, “I remember being caught…with a sharp ruler” (34). It is painful to see a person being treated so harshly for speaking the language she is most comfortable in. This can scare people in such a way that they might hesitate to represent their home language to other people. The concern to adapt to the style of modern English can lead to the extinction of a person’s home language. Therefore the person becomes detached from their culture. In this piece of literature Anzaldua’s mother says, “I want you to speak English. Pa’ hallar…I spoke like a Mexican” (34). The author’s mother is scared for her daughter’s future. She wants her daughter to fit into society. She knows that modern English is one of the most important tools needed to be a part of American society. However, in order to become a part of society, one might get detached from their culture. Therefore, the person will lose their identity. A person may have to create their own identity to create a position for themselves in their new society. People often have to receive help from speech classes to get rid of their accents. The accent that people have when they talk represents their cultural background. Anzaldua states, “At Pan American University, I and all Chicago students were required to take two speech classes. Their purpose: to get rid of our accents” (34). Why is it necessary to get rid of their accent? The actual intention of these speech classes is to make her forget the language closest to her culture. Society does not let people like the author establish an identity based on their cultural background in the work place or formal education. People should have the opportunity to represent their home language in school or in their workplace so that more people get to know about their culture. A person’s language is equivalent to their cultural identity, maybe therefore changing their identity.

Making home language an important factor in formal education and work helps people to socialize with members of the new society. Writing and talking will not be conducive when it comes to saving one’s home language. Anzaldua, the author of took several steps to establish a place for her home language despite the obstacles. She states, “In 1971 when I started teaching High School English to Chicano students, only to be reprimanded and forbidden to do so by the principal. He claimed that I was supposed to teach ‘American’ and English literature” (40). The author wants the Chicano students to know about their identity, culture, and ethnic background so that the students would understand their cultural differences and spread their ideas just like Anzaldua did. However, the principal of the school did not let Anzaldua to succeed in her attempt to broaden cultural understanding. However, she is unstoppable and continues to teach them short stories, poems and a play in Chicano language. Anzaldua has a lot of appreciation for her home language and she proves it every time in her work life. She says, “I had to ‘argue’ with one advisor after the other, semester after semester, before I was allowed to make Chicano literature an area of focus” (40). She finally succeeds in making Chicano Literature a relevant subject, which makes her proud to talk about her language to other people. Through communication and socialization with students, Anzaldua creates a new horizon for their home language.

A person’s home language represents their identity and therefore will be heard in the work place as well as school. The author spoke her home language with her family and friends. Anzaldua states, “My ‘home’ tongues are the languages I speak with my sisters and brothers, with my friends” (36). Why are these the only people with whom she can freely speak her home language? This system should be changed and more people like Anzaldua should come out and write about their rights and take necessary actions against people in their society who pressure them to give up their language. People can use the platform of social media to talk about their language rights. Professionals such as journalists can spread the history of their home language and write about the different ways home language can get recognition in order to maintain the existence of their identity. They can also write about how home language is attacked at different places. Anzaldua says, “Attacks on one’s form of expression with the intent to censor are a violation of the First Amendment” (34). Even the First Amendment does not allow the violation of a person’s home language. Along with the adaptation of modern English, there should be a separate place for home language at work and school so that people don’t lose their identity.

As an ESL student, I can relate to each and every word the author said. As an International student it is difficult for me to adapt to the style of American English, but I have not been pressured in any way to give up my mother tongue. There are several language courses in my college and Bengali is one of them. I feel proud to see my home language on the list. There are so many positive things about my experience as an international student but I still feel that I have not been able to fit into my college community. I will have to learn the way to speak in a proper American accent, while not giving up my home language. My home language represents my true identity and culture. If I want to give respect to another language, I will first have to love and respect my own language.

A person’s home language plays an important role in their formal education and work performance because it represents their culture, identity, and the way they socialize. People can learn from Anzaldua to never give up on their home language. Her appreciation for her language inspires others to also appreciate their language. There are a lot of people who struggle to adapt to modern English and change their accent. They face difficulties when trying to find a job or fit into society. These people should not be treated differently because they have the same rights just like of all the other people in the society.

Power of the Internet

In today’s world the internet plays a major role in people’s lives. Almost everyone is dependent on the internet for their everyday work. From children to adults, everyone needs the internet to get their work done. The use of internet has made our life easier and we can get our work done faster. With the help of the internet we can download different apps, games, use social networking sites, and various other websites. Without the invention of the internet a lot of other inventions wouldn’t have taken place. The internet has its pros and cons but there are more advantages of using internet compared to the disadvantages. The internet is a positive life changer because it’s helping people academically and professionally, making them smarter, digitally advanced, and intellectually independent.

Internet plays an important role in the professional lives of people. A huge number of people get jobs because of their active engagement in social networking sites. A lot of companies use social networking sites for recruitment. Employers use the social media accounts and digital portfolios before hiring people. The writers of “From Written to Digital: The New Literacy” Phil Ventimigla and George Pullman states, “In a Hart Research Association employers found electronic portfolios significantly more useful than a college transcript in assessing whether students had the skills necessary to fill a position: 80 percent of employers found electronic portfolios fairly or very useful, but only 45 percent of employers found tradition college transcripts helpful” (38). A greater percentage of employers consider electronic portfolios to be more useful than college transcripts. Electronic portfolios show a variety of information about the candidates whereas college transcripts only show academic achievements. The author of “Digital Footprints” Cassandra Branham and Danielle Farrar states, “A 2011 survey of hiring professionals reveal that 91% of employers do active screening of potential employees through social network sites, and 76% of the time they screen through Facebook, 48% through LinkedIn, and 53% with Twitter (Swallow, 2011)” (1). Employers use the social networking sites for choosing their candidates. Among the social networking sites Facebook is the most popular according to statistics. Employers make their judgement and take their decisions based on the things the candidates post on social networking sites, their comments, and how they represent themselves to other people on social media. Internet makes it possible for us to use social networking sites and create electronic portfolios. People who are more active and know how to demonstrate their academic achievements through internet have a greater opportunity in getting a job. Therefore, one should learn the different techniques of using internet and apply these techniques in their professional lives.

Internet provides students with lots of resources to help them academically so that they become smarter and digitally advanced. According to Ventimigla and Pullman the world is in need of digital leaders that display creativity and innovation as students (38). According to the authors of “Digital Footprint” some students use sites such as blackboard and canvas for homework. These are secured sites and provide privacy. Therefore, they get to learn how to operate blackboard and canvas and learn new things. They have to adapt to the different ways of using these sites. Students need to be digitally advanced and prove their creative and innovative sides in order to progress in life. Students who don’t use internet stay behind and face difficulty to compete with the digitally advanced students.

People who can think digitally and create digital structures are more likely to become independent. According to Ventimigla and Pullman, learning to create computational structures and to think digitally are necessary for intellectual independence and students who have the ability to think independently can create new technologies (38). On the other hand, Branham and Farrar thinks that information on social networking sites can be misleading because employers misinterpret what they find on social accounts of the people who applied for the job (1). Most people are transparent and honest about their opinions on social media and there is nothing misleading about it. Employers can get a clear picture of what they actually want from their employees. To judge someone on the basis of what they post and write on social media is unintelligent because people are not the same person in their personal and professional lives. If people become cautious on getting judged, therefore stop writing or posting their honest opinions on social media then they will not be able to become intellectually independently. To be able to think and express oneself is the first step of intellectual independence. With intellectual independence people can think creatively and use this to progress in their professional lives.

The internet is one of the main causes people are becoming digitally advanced. Digital advancement brings about a lot of different and positive changes in a person’s life. Political leaders and many others are benefitted through the invention of internet. According to the authors, Ventimigla and Pullman, the campaign managers choose to write blogs and take the help of social media rather than traditional speeches and campaign rallies (38). Branham and Farrar thinks that people should be careful of the language they are using to express their opinions. The opinions should be expressed in a caring and respectful way (4). Even the politicians are aware of the popularity of the internet. They know that the majority of the population use the internet and social media is the easiest way through which they can reach their message to the people. However, the campaign managers need to be careful of their approach and the language they use to persuade their audience. The use of vile and disrespectful language for the opposition can turn their audience against them. People are progressing more with the advancement of digital literacy. One should be aware of the consequences of the improper use of internet. People have to make the right use of the advancement of digital literacy to benefit from it.

Internet is making people intelligent and digitally smart. People who use internet stay up to date with everything happening around them. Branham and Farrar suggests that text messages, emails, and Facebook messages can unintentionally offend someone because digital writing cannot express the body language of the person (3). According to Ventimigla and Pullman, to determine the validity and quality of the information found online is crucial (40). To fight or argue on social media over trivial issues portrays a bad image of the people who are fighting. Digitally smart people are aware that most human beings change with time so they should write maturely because they would not want to leave a bad impression of themselves. However, people are not at fault if their social networking sites get hacked. Sometimes the social networking sites people use get hacked, therefore a lot of inappropriate messages can be sent or information can get leaked. So it is not wise to always judge someone on the basis of their messages, emails, and posts on social media. People should not judge someone on everything they come across on their social media and they should be smart enough to check the validity and reliability of the information posted online. Internet is making people smarter so they should be aware of the pros and cons of the internet and use it in a more sensible way.

The impact the internet has on people’ lives cannot be compared with anything else. The internet plays a major role in making people digitally smart, advanced and independent. It also plays an important role in the academic and professional lives of people. The role of internet is crucial and beneficial if operated wisely. People on social media need to express their honest opinions in a respectful tone and proper language. The internet lets us express who we are and gives us the freedom to represent our original selves. Therefore, the internet has the most exceptional and meaningful role in the social, professional and personal lives of people.

The Role of Social Media, Pictures and Videos in Politics

Politics is one of the most important issues in today’s world. The politicians always want to be in the headlines of the news either positively or negatively. The involvement of the politicians in creating news have always had an impact on the voters. The politicians use different methods through various platforms to communicate with the audience. Most of the time, the people are unaware of the deceptive methods used by the politicians to spread misconceptions among people. John Brummette, Marcia DistaSo, Michail Vafeiadis, Marcus Messner, the writers of “Read All About It: The Politicization of ‘Fake News’ on Twitter” and Anya Schiffrin, the writer of “Disinformation and Democracy: The Internet Transformed Protest but did not Improve Democracy” discusses the fake political news on social media while bell hooks, the author of “In Our Glory: Photography and Black Life” talks about the positive sides of pictures in protecting politics and black life. Politicians use social media platform to create fake news to influence the minds of the voters while pictures and videos demonstrate the facts of the actual condition of the political parties.

The democracy is being polluted by the fake political news in social media but images and videos are able to connect people to the facts and real political happenings. The most popular social networking sites have the greatest contribution in spreading misconceptions. According to Brummette, DistaSo, Vafeiadis, Marcus, and, Messner, Facebook and Twitter are the common battle grounds for the political groups, interest groups, and politically involved social media users (497). Images and videos can play a significant role in connecting people to politics. According to hooks, the author of “In Our Glory: Photography and Black Life,” the history of the struggle of black liberation movement in the United States could be demonstrated through images (57). Politicians use social media to damage the reputation of the opposing political parties. They attack each other through their tweets in Twitter, use vile comments on Facebook posts, create scandalous rumors about the candidates of the opposing parties and many more. During election, the politically involved social media users and interest groups become more active in producing fake news in social networking sites. As a result, people become confused of whom to support and vote. On the other hand, pictures and videos keep record of the political happenings. They reveal the truth about both the good and bad sides of the politicians. Pictures and videos are more reliable and more likely to be believed. People gets to know more about what happened in the past through them. People could relate themselves more to the history of the struggle of black liberation movement if those moments were captured in images. Pictures can have an emotional impact or strong influence on people. Therefore, the role that social media plays to damage politics can be protected by the use of different political images and videos.

Social networking sites such Facebook does not provide any data or information about the political contents it shows. On the other hand, images show the real appearance of the people. During election, people can see a lot of political advertisements on Facebook. Schiffrin states, “How many Facebook users saw…to measure the spread of junk news” (120). Facebook consistently refuses to provide information to the researchers about the political advertisements it shows and there is no methodical way for the analysts to find out the source of junk news. Pictures have the ability to show the appearance of people or an object. Hooks states, “We saw ourselves represented in these images…multidimensional” (61). Images can portray the real body, expression and multidimensional structures of human beings rather than funny cartoon like figures. Politicians and politically involved social media users may spread as much rumor as the want but a single picture is enough to prove them wrong. Political pictures or videos are mostly taken in interviews, political seminars or conferences so these pictures or videos cannot be manipulated like the fake news or advertisements on Facebook. There are some incidences of picture morphing or editing but in most cases the guilty is caught. Morphed or edited pictures do not look like real pictures. Pictures and videos have the power to create a connection to its audience because it can express the action of the people in the picture or video. Unlike the fake advertisements on Facebook which do not provide any information about its source.

It is the responsibility of the government to protect democracy against the politicization of fake news propaganda and the politicians should use pictures and videos for political campaigns. According to Schiffrin, social media companies need to give election commission the information about the source of funding that these companies get and the role of the government in controlling fake news propaganda (122). hooks discusses that pictures have the ability to connect past with present (63). The government along with the civil society need to solve this problem with the help of the election commission. The Federal Election Commission can pressure the social media companies to provide them with the information regarding their source of funding and political advertisements. The political parties should use political pictures and videos for campaigns because these can connect the past with present. Pictures and videos can show people the previous achievements of the political leaders and this can positively influence the audience to vote for them. Pictures taken during big political conferences or videos made during political speeches are a great influence on people’s mind. People are more likely to believe videos and images than any others news. Therefore, the use of political images and videos should get more recognition by the people than political news on social media.

Pictures taken or videos recorded in earlier times can play an important role to convince the young voters who actively takes part in election to support the candidate of their favorite political party and this can also prevent them from getting attracted by fake news on social media. According to Hooks, images have been a powerful tool of culture recovery (60). Brummette, DiStaso, Vafeiadis, and Messner discusses that fake news attract large audiences (501). The supporters can acknowledge the accomplishments made by the political parties in the past through images or videos and pass on the positives vibes to their children. The historical speeches captured in videos or images can create an emotional bond between the voters and the politicians. This is one form of cultural recovery. People of this generation can preserve their political culture and pass on to their next generation. Social media is capable of attracting people through fake news. Therefore, pictures or videos can prevent the people from misunderstanding the political parties supported by their family members since the beginning.

This is a 3 minutes and 42 seconds video. This video uses animation to express its message. The video is not colorful like most animated videos; peach, grey and dark brown color is used in the entire video. This video uses animated clowns, germs, injections, newspapers, and computers to describe some of the main ideas. The animated characters are not talking throughout the video instead the entire video is narrated by a voice at the background. This video does not have any background music but the narrator’s voice seems firm and convincing enough to persuade its audience. This video gives multiple examples of how fake news is spread. The animated characters in this video play the roles of the agents of fake news . This video can make people think about the sources of fake news they see on television, newspaper, and social media. This video can stop people from believing everything they see on Facebook, Twitter and television. It is trying to tell people that in earlier days, newspapers and media had resources such as Reuters to gather information directly. Now a days, the speed with which information travels is called circular reporting. This is when multiple publications report the same piece of fake information. The video gives an example of fake news published on a scientific paper in 1998, which said that vaccination of children cause autism. This news led to an entire anti vaccine movement but this paper was discredited by the scientific community. Since then the unvaccinated children have been spreading diseases in the United States. This video also talks about the use of wiki pages for circular reporting. The main purpose of this video is to aware people about circular reporting. This video is trying to show people that every piece of information they come across on newspaper, television or social media might not be reliable. Therefore, people needs to be patient and look for the validity of the information rather than reaching a conclusion based on what they see and read. It is targeting all the people who are impatient and want information from any sources regardless of the validity. This video is an eye-opener in showing the people the dark side of media.

Social media plays an epidemic role in creating fake news. On the other hand, images and videos play an important role in protecting politics. People need to be careful about the political advertisements and news they come across in Facebook and Twitter especially during election. The election commission needs to put a hold on the random political advertisements shown on Facebook and Twitter. People can depend more on political images and videos than social media news. Images and videos have the ability to create a connection with people, making them a more reliable source of information. Therefore, it is important for the audience to be patient and look for the validity of the information found on social media.

Annotated Bibliography: English

This article discusses the impact that social media sites has on politics. According to the authors, social media sites play a big role in damaging the reputation of the political groups by spreading fake news and rumors. This article shows that social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter are commonly used as battlegrounds for the political groups. The politicians misuse these platforms by creating fake, scandalous news about the opposing political group. According to this article, different online strategies such as geotagging and microsegmentation are used by the politicians to communicate their message to their audience. This article also talks about the research that has been done to find out the truth about the fake news on social media. This piece of writing is reliable because it has been published in a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal, titled Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly. This article is helpful because it provides more insight on the negative influence of social media sites on politics and provides various evidence and facts to support my thesis statement. Moreover, social media is a part of multi-literacies.

This article discusses the power of pictures in one’s life and the way these pictures can influence a person’s minds. In this article, Hooks states that images can create an emotional bond between two or more people. Images have the ability to demonstrate history and political situation. She talks about how photography can make people feel empowered. The author describes the way camera became a political instrument in black life. This article seems reliable because it has been published in New York: The New Express. This article talks about the different positive sides of images and how it positively influences politics. Pictures keep record of the earlier work done by the politicians. Images taken in political conferences, events or interviews show what actually happens unlike fake news on social media. Images are examples of multi-literacies and the positive impact of images on politics supports my premise.

This image demonstrates the total Facebook engagement for top 20 election stories. The image shows two line graphs. The line graph in orange represents the fake news and the line graph in blue represents the mainstream. This graph shows a clear comparison between the behavior of mainstream and fake news. As depicted by the orange line graph, the fake news on Facebook gains more popularity during elections. The slope of this graph remains constant for a few months before election but shows a rise just before election. Therefore, this image makes people aware of the circumstances created during election so that people especially the young voters do not get influenced by the fake political advertisements on Facebook. This image is credible because it has been published by the Texas Student Media of the University of Texas at Austin. This image supports my thesis statement that social media creates a lot of political fake news.

Schiffrin, Anya. “Disinformation and Democracy: The Internet Transformed Protest but did not Improve Democracy.” Journalism of International Affairs, vol.71, no.1, Fall/Winter 2017, pp. 117-125.

According to this article, the internet positively transformed protest but it has not much improved democracy. It also discusses the disinformation caused by social networking sites and provides detailed description of the sources of fake news. Schiffrin states that social networking sites such as Facebook refuses to provide evidence to researchers about the political advertisement it shows. She also discusses the disinformation on twitter and supports her claim by talking about the research done on bot activities and disinformation. Furthermore, Schiffrin discusses the sources of fake news in her article, the precautions people can take to avoid being affected by them and the role of the government in taking action against fake news propaganda. This piece of writing not only shows the negative impact of social media on politics but also discusses about the solutions to prevent it. This article is reliable because it has been published in a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal and also Schiffrin is a professor at Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. This theme supports my premise of the damaging effects of social media on politics and social media is one form of multi-literacies.

2. The purpose of this scholarly article is to let people know about the invention of the advanced technology to measure biofilm transmission.

The purpose of the non-scholarly is to let people know about the revolution to molecular plant breeding and the success story of KeyGene which the largest agro-food biotech company.

3. The scholarly article is intended for the scientific community doing research on biofilm transmission.

9. While reading the scholarly article I understood that biofilm is very important and commonly used in different biotechnological applications. However, biofilm cause major industrial contamination and infections in animals, humans, and plants. Therefore, the research scientists created an instrument to investigate biofilm transmission and the reliability of that device is tested through repetition of the same experiment. From this article I realized that, a scientific method can have draw backs and new methods can be designed to improve it. The final stage is to test the reliability of the new method.

From the non-scholarly article I understood that even a scientific research company can do successful business through different business strategies. I got to know how a patent is formed, how to help other companies with similar traits and the purpose of using biotechnology in this company.

The thesis statement should be arguable for paper 3. The name of the sources and authors should be introduced in the introductory paragraph. The meme used in the essay as a non-print source should have a connection to the thesis statement. There should be a title for the essay. The paper must be five to six pages, approximately (1400 to 1600) words. The meme or image should have in-depth analysis. The essay should have quotes as well as paraphrases.

The running header needs to be correctly formatted. The body paragraphs should be explained properly with evidence. The color and size of the image used should be included in the visual analysis part of the essay. The use of different ideas and examples in the essay can make the paper more reliable. There should be a concluding paragraph at the end of the essay. Correctly formatted works cited page.

Kidney Disease: The 11th Annual George Lopez Celebrity Golf Classic is raising awareness!

George Lopez and his team raising money for kidney disease

Kidney disease treatment is no joke. Remember when George Lopez had to learn that he was in need of kidney disease treatment? Well, if you didn’t know there was a time in Lopez’s life when he needed kidney disease treatment and fast. His wife stepped up to the plate and was ready to do all she could to help with his kidney disease treatment plan.

“I’ll give you one of mine,” Ann Lopez told her husband. When the words flew from her mouth the comedian thought she was just joking. George Lopez, best known for “The George Lopez Show,” wasn’t living in a comedic world at this moment in his life.

The day was Tuesday, April 2005, the Lopezes arrived at Cedar -Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles gearing up for surgery in neighboring rooms. First, it would be her surgery and with love, faith and devotion she left George a letter and a rosary.

Mrs. Lopez opened up about the letter, saying:

“I wrote that I was doing this out of love, and that I had faith in the operation,” Ann recalls. “To me, this was about us, about our daughter, Mayan. But George, he comes from a very dysfunctional family, a horrific childhood. It was hard for him to accept that someone would give him the gift of life.”

Ironic, how some people with the hardest lives have to face hardships but the truth is, this makes us all grow stronger and George has been a positive influence in the industry for such a long time, we are thankful that his beautiful wife was able to give him the gift of life. Ann wasn’t worried, in fact she was excited to be able to give her love another chance at a healthy life. But George, he was nervous.

“I was crying. I thanked her and I told her I loved her,” George recalls. “I was more concerned about her than I was about myself.”

The two (as expected) spoke on one another through the phone because they had to be in different rooms and post kidney treatment would take sometime in recovery.

Ann Lopez’s surgery took two hours. And George’s took five. But he was given the chance to continue making people laugh. And I’ve we’ve said before, laughter is a gift, if you can make someone laugh, you can make someone listen.

It’s great he got a second chance at life. Living a life with Kidney Disease is not an easy life. And we’re certain that’s why George Lopez is now taking part in the 11th Annual George Lopez Celebrity Golf Classic, raising money and awareness about kidney disease.

Did you know that Kidney disease is the 9TH leading cause of death in the United States.1 An estimated 31 million people in the United States (10% of the adult population) have chronic kidney disease (CKD)?

Kidney Disease Facts and Kidney disease treatment

9 out of 10 people who have stage 3 CKD (moderately decreased kidney function) do not know it.

CKD is more common among women, but men with CKD are 50 more likely than women to have their CKD turn into kidney failure (also called end-stage renal disease or ESRD).

Some racial and ethnic groups are at greater risk for kidney failure. Compared to whites, the risk for African Americans is almost 4 times higher, Native Americans is 1.5 times higher, Asians is 1.4 times higher. Compared to non-Hispanics, Hispanics are almost 1.5 times as likely to be diagnosed with kidney failure.

The leading cause of kidney failure is diabetes.

Kidney disease treatment ranges from simple diet changes to needing a transplant.

“Diabetes causes 44% of all new cases of kidney failure. In 2012 it was the primary cause for 239,837 kidney failure patients. An estimated 29.1 million people have diabetes; 8.1 million of them don’t know they have it. About 40% of people with diabetes will get CKD.7 African Americans with diabetes are 3.5 times more likely than whites to get kidney disease. Most people (69%) participating in a 2011 nationwide survey by the American Kidney Fund could not name diabetes as a leading cause of kidney disease, despite the fact that over half (55%) had a loved one with diabetes.”

And then of course, high blood pressure is the 2nd leading cause of kidney failure.

“High blood pressure (HBP) causes 28.4% of all new cases of kidney failure. In 2012 it was the primary cause for 159,049 kidney failure patients. An estimated 70 million (29%) people have HBP — that is every 1 in 3 American Adults. And most people (85%) participating in a 2011 nationwide survey by the American Kidney Fund could not name high blood pressure as a leading cause of kidney disease, yet most of them (75%) had a loved one with high blood pressure.”

According to “Medlineplus.gov,” here are some things to consider if you’re worried about kidney disease.

How can you tell if you are at risk for kidney disease? Ask yourself these questions

Do you have diabetes (problems with your blood sugar)?

Do you have high blood pressure?

Do you have heart disease?

Did your mother, father, sister, or brother have kidney disease? (Kidney disease runs in families) and may eventually need kidney disease treatment

It doesn’t matter how old or young you are kidney disease treatment is important.

“If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you are at risk for kidney disease. Now is the time to get tested. Your health care provider will order two simple tests to check your kidneys—a blood test to check your glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and a urine test to check for protein.”

These tests are a quick and painless way to get tested to see if you need kidney disease treatment. And it’s certainly a great way to stay ahead of the staying healthy game.
