how much stuff like that means to Chara

they carry their own knife out of pure habit on the off need they have to defend themself (and it’s a TOY KNIFE, but it makes them feel safer and quiets their anxiety)

and that FUCKING SCARES PEOPLE.   even tho their knife is 100 % a toy, the fact that this 10-year-old kid carries a knife everywhere (aside from presumably they’re not permitted to have it at school even under the guise of “I brought my favorite toy to class”) just sets people on edge.

not only that, they’ve been told they’re a demon pretty much from the day they were old enough to understand words.   YEARS they’ve been told they’re this inherently scary THING instead of just a kid, and other humans’ reaction reinforces it

not for any reason

she just accepts the ‘scary’ parts of them for what they are : a traumatized child who’s been told lies and needs someone to look at them LIKE THEY’RE A NORMAL KID

not even them sassily brandishing a real ass knife at their older sibling is enough to scare her, because she knows they’re not gonna DO ANYTHING and that they don’t actually want to hurt other people despite all their talk about hating humanity

she’s seen their terrifying parts, and it doesn’t scare her, AND THEY DIDN’T KNOW HOW GRATEFUL THEY WERE TO HAVE SOMEONE OUTSIDE THEIR FAM WHO ISN’T SCARED OF THEM UNTIL THEY HAD HER
