A/n: I love Randall so much okay?

To say Y/n was hesitant to answer his phone was an understatement, but when Lilith called him he knew something was majorly wrong. "What?" He was tired, worn down. His voice echoed that.
Lilith sounded guilty. "Um, Jack is dying."
Y/n closed his eyes, sighing. "I'll be over." He hung up and got up, showering and getting dressed. He felt like he was in a slum. His brain was moving too slowly. It wasn't until he was brushing his teeth and thinking about maybe grabbing a bagel on the way that what Lilith had said registered in his brain at all. He froze before shaking his head and rinsing out his mouth then booking it to the Den. He was out of breath when he got there. Hamish was waiting for him at the door. "Where is he?" Hamish took him to Jack and Y/n felt the breath leave his body. "What the hell did I miss?"
Hamish explained as he looked through a book for a cure. Y/n sat down, his face in his hands. Almost dying was Y/n's thing. Jack was supposed to be the smart one! But now Jack was dying and they had been trying all night and nothing was working. They finally thought they had something, and it seemed to take hold for a second, but then Jack's body rejected it after all and they were back to square one. Y/n knew it was bad when Lilith called Jack's grandfather and Randall pitched finding some way to separate Silverback and Jack completely.
While Y/n was searching for something that probably wasn't there, Randall approached Y/n. "Y/n, about last night-"
"This isn't the time," Y/n dismissed.
Randall let out a small noise of frustration. "Y/n, please-"
Y/n turned to him. "What do you want from me?"
He was different than usual. More cut off. More short tempered. Maybe it was seeing Jack so near death or the tension of the other night and how it had blown up. Maybe it was that his emotions were constantly working against him. Maybe it was that he felt overwhelmed and he was shutting down because of it. Whatever it was, Randall hated everything going on. He hated seeing Jack like this and he hated how much Y/n was struggling with it all. "Please," Randall whispered, stepping close to Y/n. "Let me help you."
"Then help Jack." Y/n looked at him coldly and Randall panicked for a second. Had he lost his chance already? After he had come to the other night, Hamish had sat him down and explained everything. Really talked to him. Walked him through his own emotions. Lilith jumped in to talk about how Y/n was feeling and how Randall needed to grow a pair and do something about it. Alyssa even gave her two sense. Now all Randall could thing was that maybe he had waited too long. Had that night been the final straw?
There was a commotion upstairs and the two boys looked at each other before taking off. It was Jack's grandfather. They talked to him before he revealed just how much Jack had told him - Y/n wasn't really surprised that he knew about magic, though he had no idea when Jack had told him about the wolves - and then it was about getting his permission and starting Randall's plan. Y/n had been looking for another alternative but there wasn't time to find one even if there was one to be found. The old man gave the okay. So Randall's plan it was.
After they wrestled Jack down and Randall ripped the furry, bloody thing out from under his skin, Jack went still.
The room went silent.
Nothing happened.
Pete leaned over his grandson and that was the last straw. Y/n fell to his knees, sobs wracking his body.
Jack was dead.
Something broke. He grabbed hold of Jack's hand and Pete kneeled next to him. They held each other and cried. Or, Y/n did. Pete wasn't letting go that fast. "You know magic," Pete hissed. "Bring him back."
Everyone was looking at each other. Y/n pulled himself together, speaking around his tears. "It doesn't work like that Pete." His voice was raspy and breathless. "Even necromancy... it's not right. It doesn't bring them back the same. Not really at all."
"No," Pete muttered.
Lilith seemed to be the only other one able to talk. "I'm sorry," she whispered.
There was a pause before Pete stood. "First my Chloe. And now Jack."
Y/n was till sniffling and he knew that face and he knew what Pete was capable of. He stood, still shuddering with emotion. "Please Pete, don't make this worse. Don't do something you'll regret."
But all Pete did was leave. "Mr. Morton wait-" Hamish tried. But he was already gone.
All eyes turned to Y/n. He immediately looked away. "Y/n-" The voice was Randall's.
"Don't touch me." Randall stepped back. Y/n curled against the banister underneath Jack, holding onto his hand. After a while they finally moved away but Y/n ignored them. He stayed there and closed his eyes and leaned against the banister and whispered for Jack to come back. Begged and pleaded, again and again. Lilith tried to pry him away but when Y/n growled at her, she backed off.
Finally Y/n grew quiet. Finally he was still and he closed his eyes and he found himself falling in a pit of darkness. Right when he felt a terrible tar pit feeling began to settle in his stomach, Jack came back to life. "FUCK!" He screamed as he sat up, rolling off the banister. "That hurt!"
Y/n scrambled to his feet, tears returning to his eyes immediately. He tackled Jack in a hug. "Oh my god you're alive." He was shaking. Jack screamed in pain and Y/n stumbled back, right in time for Hamish and Randall to come barging in. Y/n caught Randall before he could give Jack a hug like he'd wanted to. "He's in pain."
Randall nodded. "I'm glad you're back." Y/n took note of how genuine Randall seemed. When had the thought that no one here cared about him or Jack became such a concrete belief in Y/n's mind? Despite everything, they really were family. They were family. Randall looked over at Y/n, feeling his eyes, and Y/n looked away to refocus himself. Jack was talking about Lilith...
Ah, she was in danger. At the Order's temple. With Edward.
"Jack's not going anywhere in his condition," Randall remarked seriously.
"I'm fine-" but then he stood and groaned. "Just give me a second."
"Yeah that's what I thought." Randall somehow found the moment to be sassy and despite himself, Y/n smiled at it. Randall noticed immediately. He still managed to remind Jack, "Without Silverback you're going to have to heal at human speed."
Jack looked about ready to collapse but he still managed, "No we don't have time."
Y/n sighed. "Jack... can't you please sit this one out just once? It's for your own good. They've got me here too. We'll manage it. Okay?"
Jack looked between them before sighing. "Let me sit on the couch. Hopefully I can fall asleep so I'm not sitting around here just waiting." They helped him to the couch then all took off to the temple. They moved outside before Y/n stopped. "Wait, Pete thinks Jack is dead."
"Seriously? Right now? We need to come up with a plan!" Hamish complained.
Y/n went and got Jack's phone since he had never bothered to get Pete's number. Jack didn't put up a fight. Thankfully Y/n had gotten outside before Alyssa had texted.
You were right about Edward, I'm sorry.
A few seconds later:
I NEED HELP!
In all caps and everything. Fantastic.
Despite everything, Alyssa was important to Jack which meant she was important to Y/n. Even aside from that, she also seemed to mean something or other to Lilith, even if she wouldn't admit it. And she'd saved Randall's life. These days there was nothing more she could have done for Y/n than save Y/n himself.
"Ah shit." Y/n felt that burn in his chest. That pull that was becoming less and less just Midnight everyday. Maybe he hadn't been so quick to throw himself at every person he had even a small attachment to in every effort to save their life before he had bonded to Midnight, but this is how he was now. He turned and began running, taking off toward the temple.
"Wha- where are you going? What about the plan?" Hamish demanded.
"I guess fuck the plan," Randall huffed. Then he was running after Y/n, which meant that Hamish was forced to follow or watch all of his friends die in one day. Even if Jack had come back, it still counted.
Y/n got there just in time. "Alyssa!" He got her attention, ramming against the gate. "How do I get to you?" She wrestled with the gate a second before Y/n finally saw the little latch and helped her, pulling her out. She had tripped as she ran up, dropping what Y/n assumed was the famous book. She looked back at it and then at Y/n's hand. Y/n groaned before grabbing her arm and yanking her out of there, letting the gate fall back into place. "I know I'm not Jack but he's currently sort of healing from basically dying so I hope you can cut him some slack?" She looked alarmed by that but just nodded. Y/n pushed her behind him as Edward began to approach, but he just grabbed the book and began to walk away.
It was then the sound of a gun cocking alerted Y/n to Pete running out of nowhere that Y/n's attention shifted from Alyssa. "Jack's alive!" he screamed, his hand reaching out as he knew he wouldn't get there in time to stop the bullet that had already been shot. Not that Y/n wanted to protect Edward, but that Y/n already knew what would happen as the bullet froze, inches from Edward. It magically, instantly, turned into a blue rose and fell to the ground. Harmless. When Edward turned his eyes to Pete, Y/n's heart stopped.
"Jack's... alive?" Peter breathed, labored.
Y/n didn't answer him. He didn't get the chance. Pete exploded and then ceased to exist and the breath was knocked out of Y/n whole body. Maybe it was seeing Jack come back to life, but it was shock that swallowed Y/n whole in that moment- not grief. Even as Y/n knew that Pete was dead... it had happened so fast. It was impossible. Randall and Hamish ran over right then and Alyssa put an arm on Y/n as his face slowly morphed to one of rage. "Don't," she wanted softly. "He'll only kill you too." She was hesitant but firm. For some reason it worked. Y/n didn't move.
"I offered you a front row seat to glory," Edward told Alyssa. Y/n growled as the older man looked at the blonde girl. "And you betrayed me. I guess it doesn't matter though." His eyes shifted to Y/n, as if surprised that after his show with Pete anyone would have the gumption to not just immediately submit. "And neither do your friends." For a terrible moment Y/n thought Edward was going to blow them all up too, but this time he waved his hand and a force of power simply blew them away from Edward. Compared to what had happened before, it was harmless. Maybe it would have been easier if he had. The damage that Y/n would have to deal to Jack when they came back almost wasn't worth it.
It was Randall who got Y/n to get up, of course. To move and respond enough to get back to the Den and tell Jack what had happened. It was Alyssa who kept Jack in place as he hissed and stretched and groaned and tried to stay together even as his human body was barely holding on. Seeing Jack break down was too much for Y/n. Alyssa gladly took over and Y/n left the two of them alone. Y/n had grieved enough for one day. He needed alone time.
When the yelling started, Y/n moved even further. Downstairs. Past the books. Straight to the trunks in the back. Randall came and Y/n thought it was for him at first, but then he moved to Lilith's trunk and checked it. "Is she dead then?"
"Missing." Randall swallowed, as if he had something huge stuck in his throat. "We'll talk upstairs then I'll come get you and update you okay?" Y/n nodded and Randall left.
Y/n was upstairs a few minutes later even without Randall needing to come get him, having pulled himself together. Maybe it was shock. Maybe it was that he'd always thought Pete was an asshole. Maybe it was that he was already numb to loss after having seen Jack die. Whatever it was, he felt surprisingly fine. Fine enough that when Randall shot his idea and Alyssa was against it, Y/n was there to defend him.
"I know Lilith is important," Y/n groaned for the millionth time. "I'm not saying she isn't! But that's a child! He's done nothing wrong! He's good and innocent. Just because his dad is evil incarnate doesn't mean his life doesn't matter just as much as Lilith's. If not more, since Lilith isn't innocent!"
"So Lilith ISN'T important to you?" Randall demanded.
Y/n almost screamed. He got very close to Randall, his chest moving fast as he desperately tried to keep himself under control. "I would die for Lilith. I would take her place without hesitation. In a heartbeat. Hands down. I would take her place and tell you to run if I could. But I can't. Likewise, I would do the same for that child because even though Lilith means the world to me for emotional reasons, for the sake of justice and mercy and all that is supposed to be good about this stupid shit fuck of an Order, that child is innocent!"
It went silent for a second. "And we cant guarantee that you won't kill anyone else as well."
"We won't kill anyone else," Hamish lied.
"Totally," Randall followed up.
Neither of them were believable. "You're lying."
"Yes," Hamish agreed instantly.
Alyssa scoffed. "I can't do this with you guys. The Order isn't evil."
"We'll agree to disagree."
At Hamish's words, Y/n nodded. Alyssa glared at him and he held up his hands. "Not all of the people are evil, but Alyssa, the Order is being ruled by evil people. Those who lead and guide are corrupt to the core. Edward is EVIL and everyone is letting him do what he wants because he's the man in charge. This is why Tyrannies are bad. One guy can't handle the responsibility that comes with that much power. Absolutely power corrupts absolutely. I still am not behind the Kill Everyone That Moves plan though!" Y/n sighed. "Why don't you take Jack to his grandfather's to see if there’s anything there? I know he wanted to go, and you won't do any good here."
When Alyssa went to argue, Hamish stepped up. "It would be better if you went. Especially if it means taking Jack away from the danger." Her mouth closed and she looked at Y/n for help, but he just looked away. She left after that, taking Jack with her.
When she was gone, Y/n turned on the others. "I fucking hate you guys, you know that?" His tone was so stripped and raw. So devoid of humor, or even repentance. Hamish and Randall just looked at him. "Emotions were never this hard for before Midnight was around." He was hard only a second as Hamish put his hand on Y/n’s shoulder. They looked at each other and Y/n’s numbness eased from the solid chill that had settled. "Sorry." He sighed, his body relaxing as he came to a little more. Focused. Grounded. Hamish’s hand dropped. Y/n took a deep breath in, running his hand through his hair. "Midnight and I are far too alike. Where I ignore emotions, he rejects them."
Hamish made a noise that was too breathy to be a laugh, but was too manic and choppy to be a sigh. "Join the party.” There was an unspoken ‘welcome to the family’ added on the end and Y/n seemed to ease a little more. They didn’t hate him. He wasn’t an outsider. He wasn’t broken to these people. It was okay. “Are you ready to get Maddox and trade him for Lilith?"
Y/n glared at him. Even like this his tone was soft as he demanded, “Are you kidding me? After everything I just said?" It was like a parent, in shock rather than rage.
Randall groaned. "We'll save as many people as possible, and if we can get the kid too we will okay? But it's Lilith! Come on Y/n!"
Y/n felt his heart break. The numbness left and in its place settled an ache that tore his very soul into two. Mind over matter - the age old battle. What felt right versus what was logically correct. What you felt versus what you knew. Y/n had to choose and the thing was, there was a near impossibility he could save both. "Fine." He looked away, his face twisting with defeat and pain. Hamish and Randall almost seemed guilty. "Can we at least only kill in self defense?" The boys nodded instantly. They could give Y/n that at the very least.
At the end of the day they'd gotten Maddox and Lilith came walking through the door like a god send. Everything should have been perfect, if not for the whole Pete dying thing. Oh, and the Order finding the Den. There was that too.
Randall and Y/n stayed inside with Lilith- Hamish and the Order Lady ran outside. In the maybe minute and a half that it took to deal with the Order people, Randall had already found his way to Y/n. His fingers brushed Y/n's palm. Y/n didn't pull away. Using his strength to keep everything else together, he didn't have it in him to deny Randall or pretend that through everything else the strongest feelings weren’t still all for him.
Randall took his hand.
"Will you two just fuck already? I'm tired of this shit. I almost died before coming here and we're working with Mages. Simplify it." Lilith's words actually made Y/n smile.
Everyone reunited as the chaos outside died down. "I have a potion to do," the lady told the wolves. "And I need werewolf blood to do it with. Who's it?"
"I'll do it," Y/n offered immediately.
"Ah, good ol' Canon Fodder is back at it again."
Y/n rolled his eyes at Hamish's comment. "His name is Midnight. Be respectful." He scoffed and they went their separate ways- they all had things to do. Soon they were done and the spell was completed and they were headed off to the temple. Yay! Getting everyone out was easy. Getting in after that was even easier. And Jack was waiting on the other side. Everyone was thwarted and dripping into the book. All the had to do was destroy the thing and it was over.
As the book burned, everyone let out a breath. They had won.
Well, for now.
Only the next day, things took to a new level. Y/n knew who was knocking on his door before it opened. "Come in Randall."
"How did you know it was me?" Y/n stood, turning to make some snarky comment about how much he smelled or something but he didn't get the chance. His words were cut off when Randall, of all things, kissed him without waiting for a response. It was tender and warm. Slow, but hard. Different than Y/n had imaged. Better.
"Promise you'll do that a lot more. All the time."
Randall laughed. "I promise." His phone went off and he looked down, his eyebrows coming together. "Apparently someone is causing some trouble in their room. I'll be back in a sec."
Y/n chuckled. "Mind if I go with you?"
"For sure. You'll have to stay outside the room though, I'm not supposed to tell students off in front of other students." Y/n agreed and they headed out. Y/n lagged behind as Randall knocked on the door. Once. Twice. It opened and there was a plume of dust. Randall fell forward.
Y/n thanked the Lord that he didn't scream when the person pulled Randall's limp body inside the dorm, closing the door. He was sure they had some excuse for when Randall woke up, but what was important was that Y/n knew exactly what had just happened. And he also knew how to prevent it from happening to him.
His first stop was by the Den. He knew the Order would come for this place. The Hides were all with their champions so they were fine on that front. Jack had been reunited with Silverback so the Knights were all protected as well. Y/n forced himself to only take one thing. He took the small bottle of what they had left of the memory restoration potion. They had made it for Jack before everything had gone wrong and they hadn't needed it at all. He grabbed it and he ran. He ran back to his dorm and he froze, trying to decide what to do.
There was only enough for one person, so Y/n had to choose. He closed his eyes, knowing what had to be done. He took out a sticky note, writing, Drink this. It'll make you feel better after getting drunk last night! and hoped that would be enough.
If he gave it to anyone else... they wouldn't be able to do anything. They would probably just have to sit back and watch the people they loved not know them while they tried to figure something else out. If it was Hamish, Randall, or Lilith they'd give themselves away instantly. If it was Jack... he would go after Alyssa.
No. It had to be Y/n.
His plan worked perfectly. He forced himself to relax and let himself go about his life, knowing what was about to happen. And it did. As he made his way to his favorite spot to read at, he bumped into someone who had run backwards into him. As they both turned, suddenly there was white smoke and the world was going black and Y/n woke up a few minutes later, alone and confused. And feeling like he'd lost something.
A week. It took a week for Y/n to finally drink the potion. He didn't remember getting drunk and he didn't remember making whatever liquid it was, but he knew that he felt terrible and that he was having this feeling like he absolutely needed to. So, finally, he did.
When the memories came back, Y/n was terrified. He knew now, but he didn't feel better. It was hell when he passed Jack in the hall and waved and Jack gave him a weird look before looking to see if Y/n was waving to someone else before continuing in his way that Y/n really felt loss. He couldn't do anything. Lilith and Hamish didn't recognize him either. Y/n avoided Randall like death, too terrified of the image of Randall looking at him with that stupid blank expression on his face. It had been heart wrenching enough seeing Jack forget a lifetime long friendship.
Y/n watched Gabrielle Dupres become Jack's girlfriend. Watched her change him. Watched him become a shell of who he really was. This complacent little puppy dog. A blonde? Jack would have never. Gabrielle made him into someone Jack would have made fun of.
Hamish and Lilith seemed... empty. They had been Knights for ages and had strong ties to the Cause. Hadn't Lilith said she had no idea who she was before she'd been who she was as a Knight? Lilith secluded herself more than ever and Hamish lost himself in his studies. Y/n tried the best to do the same. He kept telling himself that at least he hadn't forgotten. He might have had to have a babysitter like Jack, since the hunt for the Order of the Blue Rose had been as much a part of Y/n's life as it had been part of Jack's. And with Midnight screaming hysterically for Y/n to save the others and get them away from the Order... Not to mention what it did to his brain. He tried with every cell in his body to forget that week. That week that he had forgotten. Y/n's life without Jack... Y/n wouldn't have made it to eighteen, let alone in college and at drinking age. The bullying. The isolation. The complete lack of care from his own parents. Chloe and Pete had practically adopted Y/n. They had supported Y/n and kept him going.
At the very least Y/n could still protect people. He knew what the ringing was. He knew what was going on. But in exchange for understanding, he was drowning in loneliness and the sickness in his gut that was threatening to eat him more and more every time he looked at the people who had become his family, who looked at him now like they had never met him before. When he looked at Alyssa. Every time they caught eyes he had to duck away. He was able to play it off when he was prepared, but in small moments his hate for her was searing and bright and hot and unending. He HATED Alyssa Drake and he would kill her even if it was the last thing he did.
Except that if he died, there would be no hope for the others.
The Order had taken everything from the Den. Y/n visited every once in a while and kept the place clean. He even began getting tools and fixing things up. It wasn't too much, but it took time and allowed the place to reach a new level of taken care of. This place was all he had left of his life as a Knight. Now he was the only one left. But hey, another upside: Y/n could talk to Midnight. And he did. A lot. They bonded more than Y/n could have in any other situation. Midnight and Y/n... I don't know. Y/n understood Midnight and Midnight him. Like they'd never been understood before. One talked and the other listened and understood. They drew together even more.
Which made Y/n hurt even more, because now he wasn't just mourning his own friends but Midnight was mourning his as well.
Until the end of the year and all through Summer: Six months. It continued like that for six months.
Y/n was starting to realize that it wasn't just Jack who was being babysat. Everyone seemed to forget Y/n, though Alyssa would check in on him every once in a while. Whatever their standard was for someone who was struggling with returning memory, Y/n didn't fit the bill. It probably helped that Y/n could so easily access that person they had almost made him and push everyone away with biting aggression. Not to mention he stayed away from people but always stayed in public places. No one approached him and if they did, he made a scene. Nothing aggressive, but he was safe and everyone easily wrote it off by his only friend ever being taken from him and his entire life being reduced to emptiness. Everyone stayed away and by some act of God, he never got dusted again. No one was dying and there were no wolf citings. Y/n wasn't coming for them. That's all they cared about.
After six months, though, there seemed to be a bigger problem than Y/n still remembering.
When a blue rose appeared on his bed after he returned from class, Y/n knew it was serious.
At first Y/n wasn't going to go. But then he heard Midnight, screaming at him to go. So he did. He showed up and he stayed in the shadows and he tried not to look at anyone.
"Have I met you before?"
"I don't think so?" It hurt too much. Y/n almost left. But then he got only five feet before he heard the ringing and his frown turned into a smile. He turned with his brothers and sister and wrecked havoc that night. He didn't even hesitate to help them kill those of the Order immediately around. When morning came, Y/n woke up early and got cleaned and dressed. He was waiting for them when they woke up.
"Where are we?" Jack groaned.
"We call this place the Den," Y/n answered immediately. All eyes turned to him.
"Who are you?"
"My name is Y/n, and we're friends. You don't remember that, but you do remember something don't you?" They all looked at each other and Y/n smiled wider. He tried not to be too excited. He was going to get his friends back, but he had to not scare them away first. "You can ask me anything and I will give you answers. If you need proof, I have it to give. Anything you need, I swear."
Lilith was next. "Why are we covered in blood?"
Y/n hesitated at that. "You killed people last night." They all gasped at him and he rushed to add, "Bad people. Evil people. People who have been manipulating you for months and stealing away from you what matters most."
"And what's that?" Hamish asked next.
"Each other." He chuckled at the looks they gave him. "I know you don't know it now, but you guys are best friends. Practically family. Jack, when you asked Randall if you knew who he was? When he wasn't sure how to respond? How I even know your names. Six months ago we were unbreakable." They grew quiet and Y/n sighed. "I don’t expect you to believe me, but it's true." Y/n managed to look at them individually to drive his point home, but when he looked at Randall it nearly broke him. Randall seem to catch his own breath as well.
"What happened last night?" The voice was Randall's.
Y/n swallowed. "Do you guys believe in magic?" They gave him that look again and he sighed, pulling off his own shirt. They started to argue but he held up a hand. "I have to show you something to prove magic exists. This isn't a ploy to sleep with you or some shit- you're covered in blood and I'm not going to rip my clothes into pieces because you stubborn idiots got your memories taken." At that they shut up and Y/n finished stripping. He wasn't naked long, but he felt Randal give him a once over - for the love of God - before he shifted into a wolf.
They all screamed.
Y/n shifted back and redressed. "Do you believe me now?”
Lilith shot to her feet. "I'm out of here."
"If you leave you're going to kill more people. You won't have control of it and we'll never know what's going on that's forcing you to change. You'll wake up naked in all parts of everywhere, covered in blood and confused. Or you can stay and you can believe me and I can help you." Lilith sat back down. Y/n let a soft breath out through his nose. "Upstairs there are clothes that fit you. Shower, get dressed and then reconvene here." Y/n picked up the robes that he had put over the banister and threw them at the others. "These are for you. Unless you want to walk around bare naked." They all took the robes without question and headed upstairs.
Y/n closed his eyes, relieved now that they were gone. He got half an hour of that peace. He just stood there, eyes closed, trying to keep himself together. He was so close. He couldn't ruin it now. When they got together again, Y/n directed them into the parlor room. "I need a drink," Hamish whispered.
Y/n smiled. "Feel free to make one then." He motioned to the counter and Hamish moved to it. It almost felt like old times. Almost.
"But you're not an alcoholic," Lilith began like she was reading lines. "You're an-"
"Alcoholic aficionado," they all said together. Y/n chuckled.
"Alright," Jack huffed. "So you're right. We know each other."
"I keep getting a sense of deja vu," Hamish agreed.
"I have been since I woke up." Lilith seemed hesitant to relinquish it but did.
Randall's face screwed up. "Someone's coming."
"No they aren't," Lilith countered. It was indeed silent.
But then, before Randall even spoke, Y/n knew what was happening. "I can... smell them?"
"You're a werewolf too," Y/n said quickly. "You have heightened senses. I can smell them too. I- I know you don't believe me and it's hard to wrap your mind around but someone IS coming and-" There was a knock on the door. "Do not let them know I’m here, do you understand?" They all nodded and Y/n dipped away, hiding. The door opened just in time for Y/n to settle and Gabrielle's voice echoed. Y/n closed his eyes, resting his head on the wall behind him.
He was so close.
When the fighting began, Y/n almost joined them but stayed put. He couldn't chance the Order finding out he knew. They would dust him again and he didn't have anymore memory potion. When it went quiet, it was Hamish who called out, "the coast is clear."
Y/n did come out then. He was relieved to see everyone passed out. "I'm sorry. The only reason I remember is because I had a potion. There isn't anymore and I can't make anymore because they took all the books. I'm the only person they don't suspect. If they find out I know, you won't have someone to guide you through this if you get wiped again. We'll all be fucked."
"A good call," Hamish assured. "We need to get out of here though."
"They're after us," Y/n agreed, moving as Hamish began to lead everyone out.
"Who?" Jack wondered.
"The Blue Rose People," Randall realized.
Lilith followed with a grunted, "Who put the tall one in charge?" But she did come so no one spoke against her. As they passed the unconscious people, she softly added, "Nicole is my friend. Why would she attack me?"
"She's not your friend." Y/n stayed quiet as Randall snapped the words. If he didn't have to answer, he was fine with that. "None of them are."
"Do you think they're all part of this Blue Rose cult?"
That one Y/n knew was aimed at him, because everyone looked at him when Hamish asked. "Yes," Y/n sighed. "The Order has been sending babysitters to keep an eye on you. Every time you remembered even something small, they dusted you." He held up the pouch he had picked up off the floor. "Your friendships... relationships... whatever they were to you, they were lying the whole time to keep you in line so you wouldn't remember." Y/n grew quiet as they all came to a stop. He knew the impact of his words. "I'm sorry."
Randall broke the awkwardness. "We need to find a place to hide and just figure out what to do next."
"We're safer in public," Hamish argued before Y/n could intervene. So Y/n just nodded and they all seemed to accept that. As someone who's always played second man, it was weird to be so in charge of them. It felt wrong.
"We should split up. We're a pretty conspicuous group," Lilith suggested next.
"We should stick togeth-" Jack began. But then the ringing picked up again and Y/n closed his eyes, trying hard to keep control of himself even at the strong call. He inhaled sharply and when they stopped, everyone was looking at him. "You can control it?"
Y/n nodded. "Mostly. Midnight and I have gotten really close. He trusts me, so there's no reason to force himself out." He bit his lip at their blank expressions. "I... can teach you. Everything. There's so much about what's happening that you still don't know. Being a werewolf is dangerous, but we're not the monsters. I promise you."
They had made it back to the school just in time for all of their attention to be yanked away from the conversation as a scream sounded. Y/n went rigid, growling when he saw the cause. Everyone looked at him, stunned., then back to the scene he was glaring at. At Alyssa, running up - not to them but to the thing that was kind of a statue and kind of a person. She cast a spell and it collapsed, spreading guts and blood everywhere. A beat passed and feeling eyes in her she looked over. She found Y/n and, despite his snarling rage, seem to be quite relieved. "You've known." Y/n hesitated but nodded, calming just a little. Her face set and she added, "Run!"
Y/n's hate for Alyssa Drake melted away just a little. There was more to this girl than Y/n knew. So when she told them to book it, he turned and ran; his confused friends followed. Y/n didn't even have to ask to know to go to the bar.
They settled and after a moment of letting Y/n catch his breath, he sighed and nodded to the others. "Okay, let the questions begin."
"Magic?" Randall demanded.
"Real," Y/n confirmed. "That's what the ringing is. It's not all magic, but MOST magic. Bad magic. Magic that requires sacrifice. Murder, blood- nasty stuff. Really bad stuff. The ringing helps alert us of the magic and we find the people who are often killing people, sometimes animals, and kill them before they can do more evil."
"What about the blonde girl today?" Jack asked.
Y/n didn't look at him. Of course, even with his memory lost he still remembered Alyssa. Still defended her. Perhaps that's why he trusted Y/n so easily. Why they all did. "Alyssa's... weird. She-" He swallowed. "She knows us really well. Used to be our friend. But then the person in charge of the Order almost killed his son to get power and we stopped it. We helped the Order. And they turned on us." He shrugged. "I guess we'll always be enemies. They aren't willing to change. To get better."
"But Alyssa is different?" Lilith asked dubiously.
Y/n nodded. "She was... in love with one of us. Got intimate and really close to who we are. Romantically involved."
There was an awkward silence. "Is that why she was so relieved you remembered?" Randall sounded dismal when he said it.
Y/n bit his lip, trying not to smile at the obvious jealousy he probably didn't understand. "She didn't love me, Randall."
"Then who?" This time it was Jack.
Y/n sighed. "That's not important. It's not my business to talk about someone else's personal issue and with how you’re getting memories back slowly but surely, it won’t be necessary anyway. Just know that we're the good guys and Alyssa is the exception. The ONLY exception, and even that's a big maybe. In the end, she betrayed the one she loved and was the first one to use that dust on him." Y/n's jaw worked and everyone let it go.
"Well at least we know it's not Killith," Jack joked.
They all jerked and Lilith groaned. "More memories."
Y/n smiled. "I know it feels bad but this is a good thing!" Jack took a drink. "This means that we can simply trigger memories and they'll return." He hesitated. "Does anyone want to?"
Jack downed his drink. "Let's do this."
