1978 Debut-Album era Squeeze
(I could not find color versions of these photos like the few floating around from this shoot that are in color… and unfortunately, the only versions I can find of some of these have watermarks covering faces -but I figured I’d share them -and I’ve got a few more to post later)

John Cale producing music? Can you guess he has a combative streak there as well? Given the way he and Lou Reed got along one cannot be shocked to hear about the treatment he gave to Squeeze. I do understand what he wanted, i.e. he planned to take them away from their comfort zone, yet he forgot he dealt with their debut. Sure, he also worked on many musicians' introductions as we shall see, but he could've understood all musicians need to establish at least a semblance of an identity with their entree. Squeeze still looked for theirs then, though we can admit Cale probably provided them with a couple of possibilities for their follow-ups. Moreover, I must laugh over the fact he produced a record by a group that took the name from the most controversial Velvet Underground album.

A-T-3 329 Euro-Rap (Pt.2)
You see the Black Skin Blue Eyed Boys, They ain't gonna fight no wars. More Euro-Rap but this batch has a little less melanin but still takes all its main influences from black music, soul, funk, rap...
Euro-rap isn't completely disco-rap like you get from the threes and the fours on labels like Sugar Hill and Enjoy, there are more synth-pop influences, but it's more disco than the new hard minimal drum sound Run DMC are pioneering
Danny Boy – Discomix Netherlands novelty rap record that has a full Dutch rap vokaal on the a-side
Natasha - AM-FM (Rap) American vocalist on an Italo rekid
Wham! - Wham Rap! charting in January 1983 it's pure euro-rap
Jazzy Dee - Get On Up big euro-hit
Iain Richmond - The Malta Bus Song Blondie/Jay & Silent Bob type rapping from Malta. Now a sadly a historical document. 'The Malta Bus Song by Iain Richmond is a wonderful funky song telling the story of catching a bus in Malta at a time when the classic Maltese buses still roamed the streets and a fare was "2 cents, 3 cents, 10 cents takes you anywhere"'
Dr. Gruuf - Wos? Austrian cover of Captain Sensible's Wot. Wot did well in the UK and US but it went top-5 across continental Europe
Man Friday & Jive Junior - Picking Up Sounds John Deacon bassist for Queen and Robert Ahwai of Cargo
Herbie Goins - Scrap Rap Herbie Goins was an American serviceman who joined British blues band Blues Incorporated in 1961, he joined The Nightimers in 1965, this became Herbie Goins & The Nightimers and featured John McLaughlin on guitar. At some point he ends up in Italy
Harri Kakoulli - She's Mine In Dub Electro from Squeeze Bassist

A little holiday Squeeze this "Christmas Day," featured today at the Corner. @SqueezeOfficial also have a new album out! Hot off of the success of Squeeze's three charting A&M singles "Slap and Tickle," "Up The Junction" and "Cool for Cats" (from their same-titled second album) came this non-LP holiday track from 1979, "Christmas Day." This classic lineup features eventual co-leaders Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford (guitars and vocals), along with Jools Holland (of "Later with..." fame) on keyboards, Harry Kakoulli (bass) and Gilson Lavis (drums). All are seen hamming it up in this forgotten video.
