Harley-Davidson Enthusiast Collection Introduces Fast Johnnie
Tumblr media Tumblr media
High-Performance 1960s and ‘70s Muscle Cars Inspires Limited-Edition Trio of Motorcycles. Harley-Davidson celebrates muscle car culture and its racing heritage with the introduction of Fast Johnnie, the 2023 addition to the Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection of limited run bikes featuring factory-direct custom paint and graphic treatments. Executed in Celestial Blue with white racing stripes, this special Enthusiast Collection paint scheme is offered factory-installed for three 2023 Harley-Davidson models: the Low Rider® ST, the Street Glide® ST and the Road Glide® ST motorcycles, with combined production limited to no more than 2,000 models globally.
Tumblr media
Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection models celebrate Harley-Davidson riders and are inspired by their stories and legacies. The Fast Johnnie paint scheme taps into iconic design themes featured on high-performance muscle cars and pony cars of the 1960s and 1970s – contrasting “racing” or “rally” striping over a bold base colour, and a clever or symbolic character or logo incorporated into the graphics package. Both elements served to create an obvious visual difference between the high-performance version of a car and the standard version of the same model. The Fast Johnnie character applied to the left side of the fuel tank also appears on the Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle® factory team motorcycles raced in the MotoAmerica King of the Baggers series. It was inspired by the story of a piglet named Johnnie adopted in 1920 by Harley-Davidson racer and member of the infamous “Wrecking Crew,” Ray Weishaar, which became a team mascot. The piglet often perched on a motorcycle fuel tank for a post-race victory lap and is usually cited as the source of the “Hog” moniker that to this day is often applied to anything Harley-Davidson.
Tumblr media
“The striping graphic effect is a powerful signal to the generation that came of age during this era, and is still impactful today,” said Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson Vice President of Design and Creative Director. “The Celestial Blue base colour selected for Fast Johnnie recalls a popular tone from the muscle car era. For the graphic striping, we created a custom white colour formulated to authentically reflect the era, executed in a classic thin-wide-thin pattern on the sides and top of the motorcycle bodywork. The look is a nod to pure Americana.” On the tank and front fender “Harley-Davidson” script replaces one of the thin stripe elements. Depending on the motorcycle model, the striping is applied to the front and rear fenders, the fuel tank top and sides, the front of the fairing and the side covers and saddlebags. The Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection logo is on the rear fender.
Tumblr media
Low Rider® ST Fast Johnnie Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection Strap down your bedroll and make a run for the border. The Harley-Davidson® Low Rider® ST model is an American V-Twin sport-touring bike for the rider who digs clean-and-lean West Coast style and craves the outrageous performance of the Milwaukee-Eight® 117 V-Twin powertrain. The Low Rider® ST model connects these riders with pure Harley-Davidson attitude. Mechanical features are identical to the 2023 Low Rider® ST model. Special Styling Features - Celestial Blue with custom white detailing - Enthusiast Collection logo on rear fender - Graphic on both sides of the fuel tank – Fast Johnnie on left, Bar & Shield on right
Tumblr media
Street Glide® ST Fast Johnnie Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection Elevated pro-touring bagger performance and style for the rider who just can’t get enough of either. The Street Glide® ST model pairs the muscular Milwaukee-Eight® 117 powertrain with tough West Coast styling influences and new dark-and-bronze finishes topped off with Screamin’ Eagle® exhasut. Undiminished comfort and the iconic batwing fairing appeal to the traditionalist mindset. Meet the new breed of speed and style from Harley-Davidson. Mechanical features are identical to the 2023 Street Glide® ST model.
Tumblr media
Road Glide® ST Fast Johnnie Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection The sleek Road Glide® ST model projects more menace than ever and backs it up with the street-scorching power of the Milwaukee-Eight® 117 powertrain along with Screamin’ Eagle® exhaust. Harley-Davidson to recall nearly 178K bikes to fix clutches
DETROIT — Harley-Davidson is recalling nearly 178,000 motorcycles in the U.S. because they can get stuck in gear due to a clutch problem.
Documents posted Tuesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say clutches can leak fluid internally, making it so the clutch doesn’t have enough lift to disengage the bikes from gears. The safety agency says that can cause riders to lose control and increase the risk of a crash.
The Milwaukee-based company says in documents that it has reports of five crashes with no injuries.
Affected models include the 2017 and 2018 Police Road King, Road King, Road King Special, Electra Glide Ultra Classic, Ultra Limited, Ultra Limited Low, Ultra Limited Shrine, Police Electra Glide, Street Glide, Street Glide Special, Road Glide Ultra, Road Glide, Road Glide Special, Freewheeler, Tri Glide Ultra, CVO Limited, and the CVO Street Glide.
Also covered are the 2017 Softail Slim S, Fat Boy S, CVO Pro Street Breakout, and the 2018 115th Anniversary Ultra Limited, 115th Anniversary Street Glide, 115th Anniversary Street Glide Special, 115th Anniversary Tri Glide Ultra, 115th Anniversary CVO Limited and CVO Road Glide.
Dealers will install a new secondary clutch actuator piston assembly at no cost to owners. The recall is expected to start on Nov. 5.

Harley-Davidson Touring Motorcycle Recall Issued Over Oil Line Problems
Nearly 50,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycles have been recalled, following at least nine reports of problems where the oil line detached and spilled onto the rear tire, increasing the risk of an accident and posing a fire hazard if there is an ignition source.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycle recall on June 1, after a review of warranty claims identified problems with oil hose leaks, which have been blamed for at least two motorcycle accidents.
The recalled Harley-Davidson motorcycles may have a manufacturing defect, where the engine’s oil cooler line clamp was incorrectly installed, potentially allowing the hose to become detached and spill oil onto the rear tire.
In the event oil reaches the rear tire, riders will be at an increased risk of a crash, due to the slickness of the wheels. If the oil comes in contact with an ignition source, it may burst into flames.
Harley-Davidson’s Recall Investigation Committee was first alerted to the potential issue on March 7, 2017, after a dynometer test at a Harley-Davidson dealership reportedly caused the oil line to break free and spill oil. Harley-Davidson reviewed the report and concluded there were no additional reports filed in the field and closed the issue.
Just over a month later, Harley-Davidson received a consumer complaint indicating a rider was involved in a crash as a result of an oil line detaching and spilling onto the rear tire. The manufacturer opened an investigation and searched for additional field reports and found a total of nine reports alleging the oil hose detached, causing two crashes.
Upon review of the newly found data, Harley-Davidson’s Recall Investigation Committee found the oil line clamp may not have been properly installed during the manufacturing process and initiated a safety recall.
The recall includes an estimated 45,589 2017 Electric Guide Ultra Classic (FLHTCU), Police Electra Glide (FLHTP), Police Road King (FLHP), Road King (FLHR), Road King Special (FLHRXS), Street Glide (FLHX), Street Glide Special (FLHXS), Road Glide (FLTRX), and Road Glide Special (FLTRXS) motorcycles.
The motorcycles were manufactured by Harley-Davidson Motor Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin through various date ranges. For exact models and production dates included in the recall please visit the defect notice report (PDF).
Harley-Davidson announced it will begin notifying owners and dealers of the issue by June 6, 2017, and will provide instructions to owners on how to schedule a free inspection and repair at their local Harley-Davidson dealer, where dealers will be instructed to inspect and correct the oil cooler line clamps. Customer with additional questions may contact Harley-Davidson Motor Company at 414-343-4056 and reference the NHTSA recall number 17V-333.

Harley-Davidson Issues Recall For 57000 Motorcycles Worldwide
Tumblr media Tumblr media
US motorcycle giant Harley-Davidson, has issued a voluntary recall for a particular batch of its Touring Motorcycle line (manufactured within the time frame of 2 July 2006 through to May 9, 2017) which are reported to have a problem with an incorrectly fitted clamp on the engine oil cooler line. The total number of the recalled motorcycles is 57,138. A total of nine instances were recorded where the oil-cooling line had come off and sprayed oil on the rear tyre, causing the bike to slip while on the move. This was the cause for two crashes and one injury as well. The affected motorcycle models include Ultra Classic, Electrica Glide, Police Electrica Glide, Police Road King, Road King, Road King Special, Street Glide, Street Glide Special, Road Glide and the Road Glide Special. Out of the affected models, the Street Glide Special, Road Glide Special and the Road King are on sale in India.
Tumblr media
(2017 Harley-Davidson Road King Special) Harley-Davidson says that out of the 57,138 units that were recalled, 46,000 were sold in USA itself. The rest of the models were exported across the globe including India as well. We believe that a formal recall for the affected bikes in India will soon be communicated. The company says that the dealers will inspect the clamp which has been fitted incorrectly and will fix/replace the same free of cost. Therefore, if you are in India and own a motorcycle from the Touring Line of Harley-Davidson, please do get in touch with your nearest Harley-Davidson dealership. This is one of the largest recalls that Harley-Davidson has issued. Earlier in 2016, it had issued a recall for 30,000 bikes which were reported to have clutch problems. In 2014, the company issued a recall of almost 60,000 motorcycles which had braking issues. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of USA is still investigating the recall issued for models reported to have braking troubles. Let's block ads! (Why?) NHTSA Investigates Brake Failure with Harley-Davidson Motorcycles
NHTSA Probes Alleged Brake Defect, Following 43 Complaints
After receiving dozens of complaints, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating reports of brake failure with Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The probe, which involves 430,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycles with anti-lock braking systems, was launched following 43 complaints alleging that the brakes fail unexpectedly. The brake failure reports are associated with at least three crashes and two injuries, according to NHTSA.
The product liability attorneys at Parker Waichman LLP have decades of experience representing clients in lawsuits over allegedly defective or dangerous products. The firm continues to offer free legal consultations to individuals with questions about filing a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle brake failure lawsuit.
The agency is focusing on model year 2008 to 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycles. According to complaints, motorcyclists report that the brake systems fail without warning. Allegedly, riders unsuccessfully tried to brake using the front brake hand lever or rear brake foot pedal. In most complaints, the brake failure affected only the front or rear brake. One report, however, says both front and back brakes failed to work. The rider suffered a low-speed crash into a garage door as a result, the agency said.
NHTSA says reports of brake failure are associated with brake fluid. The agency says Harley-Davidson advises its motorcycle owners to change their brake fluid every two years, but consumers may not be aware of this recommendation or ignore it. Even so, the agency said the alleged brake failure is a concerning safety issue. “While it may be true that the complainants failed to adhere to the…fluid service interval requirement, the consequent sudden and complete loss of brake without warning is a concern,” the agency stated.
According NHTSA, the brake failure issue may occur when moisture steeps into brake fluid from the air, corroding valves in the anti-lock braking system. This prevents the parts from cycling and causes calipers not to activate when a rider applies the brake, the agency said.
Harley-Davidson addressed the investigation in a statement, saying “We’re aware of and cooperating with NHTSA in its investigation.
Motorcycle Recalls
Harley-Davidson launched a recall in 2014 affecting 66,421 of the 2014 anti-lock braking system-equipped Touring and CVO Touring motorcycles. The vehicles were recalled because the front wheel may lock up due to an assembly brake line defect. The recall affected models manufactured between July 2013 and May 2014. These motorcycles may have been put together or serviced in a way that causes that front brake lines to be pinched between the fuel tank and the frame. This assembly defect can increase the pressure of the front brake fluid.
“Some of these motorcycles may have been assembled with a front brake line in a position where it could become pinched between the fuel tank and the frame, either at original assembly or during subsequent service activity. If this condition remains undetected, it could cause front brake fluid pressure to increase while riding, possibly resulting in a front wheel lock-up.” NHTSA said at the time.
In 2016, Harley-Davidson recalled over 27,000 motorcycles due to a problem with the clutch. The recall involves 14 different models, including certain 2016 model year Electra Glide Ultra Classic (FLHTCU), Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low (FLHTCUL), Ultra Limited Low (FLHTKL), Ultra Limited (FLHTK), CVO Street Glide (FLHXSE), Street Glide (FLHX), Street Glide Special (FLHXS), Road Glide Special (FLTRXS), Road Glide (FLTRX), Police Electra Glide (FLHTP), Road Glide Ultra (FLTRU), Fat Boy S (FLSTFBS), Softail Slim S (FLSS), and CVO Softail Pro Street Breakout (FXSE) motorcycles.
According to the NHTSA, the recalled motorcycles contain a clutch master cylinder that is unable to generate enough lift to disengage the clutch. This is more likely to occur in motorcycles that have been parked for a long period of time. If the clutch fails to fully disengage while the engine is on and the motorcycle is in gear, the bike may move suddenly and without warning, increasing the likelihood of an accident.
In 2015, Honda recalled over 145,000 motorcycles because the rear brakes can drag, causing a fire or an accident. The recall affects the GL1800 model from 2001 through 2010 and 2012 through 2015. The GL1800A from 2001 through 2005 and the GL1800B from 2013 through 2015 are also affected. Honda received reports of eight small fires in 2014. The same issue prompted some of the same models to be recalled in 2011 and 2014.
