   “ oh, come on. if you’re gonna learn to fight back, ” fern says with a turning wrist and smile, “ you’re gonna need a target. hm... ”

    there’s a pause - well, if this duck isn’t gonna step up - he points, drawing a sword in his other hand. “ go hide, okay? and take notes. ”

    fern steps ahead of the duck and holds defense, dodging and slicing away at the colorful monsters and dangers that make their home in ooo. the regular swordplay may be within the guy’s reach to learn, though stuff like making your arm all thorny and big or growing a hole in your torso instead of dodging, well - might be a bit too advanced.

    when he disarms a toothy sprite, he kicks the dagger across the dirt with a call to arms: “ here! think you can get in on this? ”
