Views of Lake Michigan and yours truly from Great Lakes Naval Station. One of those pictures is from the RV park on base. So to my military camping-loving friends, this would be a relaxing place to stay! Military service has its perks, but it sure comes with great sacrifice. I am thankful that I am now on the other side of that now that my husband is retired. The girls and I don’t miss the deployments! This makes me think of the Christian life. Great perks on the other side! But on this side there is struggle and sacrifice. But as Jesus followers, we serve the King and put it all out it on the line. My easel has found a home! For years it had been tucked away in my office not seeing the light of day. In motherhood, sometimes you forget to do the things you love, but I am determined to get back into the habit of drawing and painting again. In a way, I have felt that I have hidden my talents. Every skill and talent is from the Lord and we have to ask ourselves, “Am I hiding my talents from the Lord?” And we should also ask, “Lord, how can I best use my talents to serve you?” The answer will be different for everyone. If you have young children, your talents may need to be directed to ministering to them. Or you may need to use your talents in your current profession as a light in a dark world. What talents are you hiding? Or are you using your talents for your own glory instead of God’s? My new street! I thought it was fitting since my desire now that the girls are in school full time is to focus my energies on writing. For those that may not be aware, Jack London was a famous writer early in the 20th century. My whole neighborhood is actually filled with streets named after famous writers. I love the little signs that God gives me to confirm the path that I am in. As I finishing painting rooms and unpacking, I am excited to get back to writing. One of the most delicious things I have ever tasted, Tres Leches French Toast. Discovering some of the best places to eat here in St. Charles, IL. Food is a great reminder of God’s graciousness. I remember a friend telling me that God could have just given us tasteless pellets of food to pick off trees to survive. But instead he gave us a great variety of ingredients that we can mix into a variety of delicious combinations. For what purpose? To enjoy and to bring people together for fellowship. Emma and I decided to take a bike ride thru our future neighborhood. We had heard they had nice walking paths but we wanted to see it for ourselves. We found this little resting area shaded by two Willow trees. Absolutely gorgeous!! I had a very skewed view of Illinois that I think was overshadowed by my difficult childhood there. I was dreading leaving behind PA rolling hills and scenic views. So to see that this beautiful place can be part of my weekly runs and family bike rides is very comforting. Home for the next few weeks. This is a small campground about 30 min from our future home in St. Charles, IL. God unexpectedly uprooted us from our wonderful community in PA and has now placed us here. At first, I fought it. I didn’t want to move but in the end, God always wins. My six-year-old woke up before I did. She let the dog out, gave him his medicine, and made all of us breakfast. For me, a glass of water with toast and peanut butter. For her sister and herself, a glass of cherry kiefer and cereal. She topped it off by setting the table with some flowers. So proud of my daughter and her team. These 12 and 13 year old girls played their hearts out to win today’s championship and finish the season undefeated. • They played in a half frozen, half muddy field, slipping, sliding, and falling everywhere. • They played hard, rocked on until the very end and won 1-0. Us parents, we shivered under coats, hats, scarfs, and blankets as we watched this nail biting game. • I love the lessons that team sports can teach our girls. It takes grit, dedication and a willingness to endure difficult circumstances to gain the prize. It is a microcosm of the Christian life and all its struggles but with one very important goal in mind. • 1 Corinthians 9:25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things.
