Budgett’s Frog (Lepidobatrachus laevis)

Conservation Status- Least Concern

Habitat- Southern South America

Size (Weight/Length)- 13 cm

Diet- Insects; Amphibians; Snails

Cool Facts- Nicknamed the hippo frog for obvious reasons, the Budgett’s frog is always smiling. Despite living in South America, their homes can get as cold as -13 degrees Celsius in the winter. During this time, the Budgett’s frog sheds off an extra layer of skin that prevents them from losing water in the extreme cold. These frogs are relatively aggressive and are not afraid to use their pseudo-fangs to deliver a strong bite to anyone foolish enough to wake them up. Their main threat is habitat loss, however their massive population is adapting to park ponds.

First up...

Wood Frog!!

(Lithobates sylvaticus)

No better frog to start with than New York State's official State Amphibian!

Size: 1.5in - 3.25 in

Appearance: Wears a black "mask-like" marking around it's eyes. Can be a range of colors, including brown, red, green, and gray.

Habitat: They live in the woods! They can be found in close-canopied forests throughout the northern United States and Canada.

Status: Least Concerned

Fun Fact: During the winter, these frogs freeze! Their breathing and heart beat stop, and the spaces inbetween their cells freezes until spring, when they dethaw and continue their hippity-hoppity life.

Pickerel Frog!

(Rana [Lithobates] palustris)

Size: 2in - 4in

Appearance: This green-brown buddy has dark square spots that run down it's back and brightly colored splotches underneath it's hind legs (so as not to be confused with the upcoming Leopard Frog).

Habitat: Pickerel Frogs prefer to live in slow-moving bodies of water like ponds and swamps, with lots of low vegetation. They can be found throughout the eastern United States and Canada.

Status: Least Concern

Fun Fact: These frogs are able to secret a toxic substance powerful enough to kill other frogs and irritate humans - so be careful if handling!

Day 6- Ella Enchanted au! One of my favourite movies growing up~

For anyone that doesn't know the movie: the story is about a girl named Ella who, when she was born, her fairy (godmother-ish) casted a bleesing of obedience on her. Due to it, Ella obeys any order given to her no matter what, and, well, you can imagine how that goes when the wrong people learn of this information.

Day 7- Princess and the frog au🌱

So my initial goal was to just sketch something for every day (since am busy w work and other projects) but it felt like I kept getting carried away each day, my sketches kept getting more detailed and all. So, for the last day, I wanted to lowkey-shitpost it and go for froggies chilumi!✍️

Golden Poison Frog (Phyllobates terribilis)

Habitat- Coastal Columbia

Size (Weight/Length)- 5 cm

Diet- Insects; Amphibians; Carrion

Cool Facts- While the golden poison frog might be small, don’t let that banana color fool you. Being the most poisonous animal known to man, these tiny frogs are feared by even the largest predators. Enduring some of the heaviest rains in the world, the golden poison frog lives in an abundance of rivers and ponds. Despite this, these frogs lay their eggs on the ground. One by one, dad carries each egg to its own pool to prevent the tadpoles from eating each other. Golden poison frogs are threatened by a mixture of habitat loss and the illegal pet trade.
