In the torpedo room of the EML Lembit, a mine-laying submarine built by the U.K. for the Republic of Estonia in 1936. The Soviets commissioned it to patrol the Baltic Sea in WWII, and it was known to have damaged 24 and sink 7 Nazi ships from 1942 to 1945. Its sister ship, the Kalev, didn’t fare so well – it disappeared on its second patrol in 1941, never to be heard from again. The wreckage still hasn’t been found. There’s so much packed into such a compact metal tube. That board in the top-left is a bunk with barely a foot of headroom! I can’t imagine being stuck in mine-infested waters in this thing with 37 other crew members! 👀😬 #submarine #edtonia #interesting (at Seaplane Harbour)
