🥰 I'd like something happy! Im home for two days this week because I celebrate Diwali
I looked it up and that is a Hindu holiday, is it not? I hope you have a nice holiday and enjoy the festivities!🍀
This is a story from Flufftober 2022, specifically for the prompt First Dance.
~~~~~~
“Amy never told me getting married would be so hectic.”
Espio merely hums in return, shoulders pulled up and body expertly hidden in the shadows of Tails’ workshop. With a smile that has refused to leave his face since the early afternoon, where he and Espio had exchanged three little words and a ring each, Silver leans closer against the other, his fingers fiddling with the newly-placed golden band around one such digit. “At least everyone is having fun, no?” the hedgehog cheekily adds, Espio’s tail giving a flick.
“Would you describe Charmy losing the rings as fun?”
“He got them back.” Hand drifting over to Espio’s to begin fiddling with that ring next Silver nuzzles the ninja’s face, his beloved’s arm wrapped around his back until they have all but merged into one being of love and happiness and adoration. Though, the wedding party is still in full swing outside their tiny hideaway nearby Mystic Ruins; and he’s gotta hand to Amy that planning it here was an amazing idea, Silver concedes to himself. If he leans just a bit wayward he can peek past the wooden wall of the workshop and witness their delighted friends, sharing in their joy... “When do you think they’ll notice we’re gone?” the hedgehog adds amusedly.
“Preferably later than sooner. You know Vector wants me to hold a toast,” Espio answers with a most displeased huff, and the pure, burning happiness in Silver’s chest can only rise higher.
“Not with music that loud, heh. And Vector’s been after the champagne a lot, we can just tell him you held a speech and he missed it.”
Grinning most incorrigibly at Espio’s half-scolding, half-amused, fully-happy glance his way Silver leans up on his tiptoes to press a kiss against the other’s lips- before muffling a laugh at a higher-pitched voice rising up behind the chameleon. “None of that!” Amy, designated wedding planner, pouts from where she comes racing closer. “What are you two doing, meandering around all secluded?? You can’t just sneak out at your own wedding!!”
“Come on, Amy, we’re still here!” Silver protests with a massive grin, arms lavishly wrapped around Espio’s shoulders and the chameleon’s lips twitching up in amusement also.
“But not participating,” the prompt retort comes, though Amy’s movements are nothing but tender and loving as she smooths out some of Silver’s quills and checks Espio’s clothes. “As it stands, the dances are coming up, and naturally our grooms are going to take the lead.”
“...Oh yeah, dancing.”
“Silver, for all that is good and holy in this world, tell me you two practiced.”
“...Sort of?” the hedgehog grins more sheepishly, Espio’s arms suddenly rather tense around his body. Sure, he and Espio sometimes like to share some steps around the living room... but he cannot shake the feeling psychokinetic flying and swirling is not exactly what Amy has in mind here.
If the way the pink hedgehog’s eyes narrow is any indication she knows very well what he is thinking, though before he and Espio can be forced into a solo practice run behind Tails’ workshop Silver has already grabbed his beloved’s hand and tugged him past the wall. “We can hardly embarrass ourselves,” the hedgehog mutters under his breath at Espio as the other makes a noise of surprise. “It’s not as if anyone else here can dance.”
“I mean, I do suppose,” Espio mumbles back, and that is all the two newlyweds can discuss before a cheer goes up when they’ve neared their group of friends. Leaning back into Espio’s body – all that attention is making him flustered, despite his earlier words – Silver lets it all wash over him; he is floating and life is hardly real around him but he and Espio are married and are going to spend the rest of their lives together even more than they already were now and thus he can only nod and smile at the praises and well-wishes everyone is giving to them. “Amy says we need to go to the first dance,” his beloved speaks up over the tumult, his fingers warm on Silver’s back. “So we just... uh.”
“Change the music!” Sonic, surprisingly dapper in his tuxedo jacket and bowtie despite also volunteering as DJ for the day, fills in, already bouncing off to the music boxes blasting upbeat songs in the distance. With some fiddling and fine-tuning a slower song gets put on instead, Silver’s feet nervously shuffling on the ground. With music like that, everything seems so more official...
“You’re the one who said we can hardly embarrass ourselves,” Espio mumbles into his ear, the hedgehog merely squeaking. He cannot deny that, but with everyone’s eyes on them...!
Luckily Amy seems to have mercy on them, gesturing for Sonic to grasp her hands. “Let’s all dance.”
“Your wish is my command,” the speedster smirks back... before all but swooping Amy off her feet, who yells, which is followed by the rest of the party laughing and forming couples and trios of their own, and Silver can only heave a deep sigh of relief at the attention being swept away from him and Espio.
“...Well. That is preferable.” Lips twitching up in a smile Espio looks down, and Silver’s stomach twirls and flutters just as much as that day where he realised just what he felt for the chameleon. “May I have this dance, my love?” his husband adds, palm turned up for Silver to lay his own hand into, and with a deep breath the hedgehog nods.
“I would love that. And I love you.”
“I love you, too. To us,” Espio whispers, Silver’s head sinking onto his beloved’s shoulder as his feet fall into rhythm with the other’s shuffles.
“To us,” he agrees, the ring warm around his finger and his heart overflowing with love.
A Glimpse into Rajasthani Culture
Rajasthan, often referred to as the "Land of Kings," is celebrated for its magnificent palaces, colorful festivals, and warm hospitality. This vibrant state is home to a culture deeply rooted in tradition, and its people take immense pride in preserving their age-old customs. One such tradition is the art of crafting bangles, which has been passed down through generations.
The Craftsmanship Behind Rajasthani Bangles
The bangles of Rajasthan are more than just pieces of jewelry; they are a work of art. Craftsmen in this region are skilled in a variety of techniques, including lac work, glasswork, and metalwork, which are used to create these exquisite ornaments.
Lac Work Bangles: Lac is a natural resin obtained from the secretions of certain insects and is the primary material for crafting lac bangles. Skilled artisans mold and shape molten lac into intricate designs, often adorned with mirrors, colorful beads, and enamel work. The end result is a dazzling and vibrant bangle that captures the essence of Rajasthan's vibrancy.
Glass Bangles: Glass bangles are another integral part of Rajasthani culture. They come in a dazzling array of colors and designs, each representing a different facet of life. The glass is first heated, stretched, and shaped into bangles. The intricate designs, including the famous Manikchand and Lahariya patterns, are meticulously hand-painted. Glass bangles are believed to bring good luck and ward off evil, making them an essential part of Rajasthani women's daily attire.
Metal Bangles: Rajasthan is also known for its metalwork, and this craftsmanship extends to bangle-making. Bangles made of metals like silver and gold are often adorned with intricate carvings, embossing, and gemstones. These metal bangles showcase the regal elegance that Rajasthan is famous for.
Cultural Significance of Rajasthani Bangles
Rajasthani bangles are more than just jewelry; they hold cultural and social significance. Here are a few key points to understand their importance:
Marriage Rituals: Bangles are an essential part of a Rajasthani bride's trousseau. It is customary for newlyweds to wear a set of ivory or red bangles, symbolizing prosperity and happiness.
Expression of Beliefs: The choice of bangles can reflect a woman's beliefs and her stage in life. Widows, for example, traditionally wear plain glass bangles as a symbol of mourning.
Festival Celebrations: Festivals in Rajasthan, such as Diwali and Teej, are incomplete without the donning of vibrant bangles, and the markets are filled with a kaleidoscope of colors during these festive times.
Artistic Expression: Rajasthani bangles are a canvas for artistic expression. They tell stories of tradition, myth, and daily life through their intricate designs and motifs.
Preserving the Legacy
The legacy of Rajasthani bangles is an integral part of the state's cultural identity. While modernization has influenced many aspects of life in Rajasthan, the art of bangle-making remains deeply rooted in the culture, with artisans continuing to create these exquisite pieces by hand, using techniques passed down through the generations.
From China to India: tracing the historical journey of firecrackers:
By the 1700s, firecrackers had arrived in India, courtesy of Chinese and Portuguese traders who introduced them through the network of Asian trading routes. Initially, firecrackers were seen as a Chinese tradition and people outside of China kept it for special festivals or events.
However, over the next few centuries, firecrackers began to take on a more prominent role in Indian culture, as festivals and religious holidays became increasingly associated with them. For example, they became a part of Diwali celebrations and were used to ward off bad luck, keep away evil spirits and signify joy and good fortune.
Today, firecrackers remain a vibrant and essential aspect of Indian culture and are used year-round during religious holidays and festivals such as Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Holi. Firecrackers are now even used as popular toys and games all over India, as well as for various practical or artistic purposes.
The role of firecrackers in religious and spiritual ceremonies
Firecrackers are often used as a way to mark important events or spiritual ceremonies. In some religions, such as Hinduism or Buddhism, firecrackers are used during religious ceremonies to symbolize the presence of the gods. In other religions, such as Christianity and Judaism, firecrackers can be used to celebrate various feast days and religious holidays. Firecrackers are also used as a part of some initiation ceremonies or rites of passage, marking the transition of a person from one stage of life to another.
How firecrackers have evolved over time and their cultural significance today:
Firecrackers have been around since ancient times, and their use has evolved greatly throughout their history.
In ancient China, firecrackers were used to ward off evil spirits and to mark the start of festivals and other important events. The sound created by firecrackers was believed to scare away bad luck and bring good luck, and it was also considered a form of communication.
In the 17th century, firecrackers were introduced to Europe and began to be used at celebrations, such as holidays and royal ceremonies. The noise created by the firecrackers was also believed to bring joy and good luck.
In the late 19th century, firecrackers were used as military signals and were also used in many public and religious ceremonies.
Today, firecrackers are primarily used for recreational purposes, such as at festive celebrations like New Years and the Fourth of July. Firecrackers are still believed to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits and bad luck in some cultures. They also remain a form of communication in some parts of the world. Firecrackers are also used to mark important events, particularly in the East, such as the Chinese New Year.
The symbolism and meanings behind different types of firecrackers
Firecrackers are used in many cultures as a way to celebrate events or bring good luck. The symbolism and meanings behind different types of firecrackers can vary. In Chinese culture, firecrackers are often used to ward off bad luck and to bring prosperity and joy. Firecrackers shaped like lotus blossoms are said to represent purification and the blossoming of good fortune. Red firecrackers are said to bring joy and longevity, and crackers that make loud noises are thought to ward off negative energies. Firecrackers shaped like dragons are said to symbolize strength and power and fireworks shaped like flowers are said to bring good luck and prosperity. Firecrackers are also used in Japan as part of the New Year celebrations, and in India to celebrate major holidays like Diwali.
How firecracker industry evolved in sivakasi:
The firecracker industry in Sivakasi, a town in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, has a long and complex history. The industry evolved gradually over the course of the 20th century, as local entrepreneurs began to experiment with different methods of producing fireworks and other pyrotechnics. By the 1950s, Sivakasi had emerged as a major center for the production of firecrackers, and the industry continued to grow throughout the following decades, driven in large part by the town’s skilled labor force, abundant raw materials, and favorable regulatory environment. Today, Sivakasi is widely regarded as the “fireworks capital of India,” producing an estimated 90% of the country’s fireworks and exporting to countries all around the world. However, the industry has also faced significant challenges over the years, including safety concerns, environmental issues, and economic pressures, leading to efforts to modernize and streamline production processes while maintaining the traditional craftsmanship and cultural heritage of the industry.
What Is Karva Chauth and What Is It Observed As a Fasting Meal?
Karva Chauth is one of the many faces of rural India. It has a very interesting background, which can be understood only when you delve deeply into its religious and cultural heritage. Karva Chauth is an ancient festival celebrated by Hindu female folk from the southern Indian subcontinent on the last day of Purnima in the Month of Kartika. In this celebration women from the villages surrounding the sacred river Ganges throw new clothes made of cloth, known as 'kaarna kameez', on the banks of the sacred river Ganga.
This is considered to be an auspicious festival in which they honor their ancestors and relatives who have passed away. The women also decorate the house of their near and dear ones with flowers and garlands, as it is believed that on this day Goddess Chandrabhaga got herded into the lap of the god Shiva, which is why the term 'karva chauth' is derived from that same term. On this day they make special offerings to their ancestors, godparents and other family members, who are adored by them. It is believed that on this day, Goddess Chandrabhaga manifested her powers and metamorphosed Shiva into a bull, hence the meaning 'a bull in a cart'. All the household of the dead will have special utensils and items made for them in memory of their dead loved ones.
There are many interesting customs and rituals that are observed during the Karva Chauth, some of them worth observing even today. Interestingly, these days more married Hindu women are observing the fast and making a point of fasting even for one-day. Even if they don't fast on this special one-day festival, they make sure to follow the entire ritual and practice once in a while.
If we have already mentioned what the karva chauth is all about, then you may want to know what'mehendi' is. What is mehendi? Mendhis are small sweets that are believed to be holy and are usually prepared by the female community for the women going away to get married. These sweets are offered to the newlywed couple along with other gifts like dry fruits. When the bride and groom take a bath, they first dip themselves in a basin of hot water made of milk and take handfuls of the dry fruits with them as mementos to preserve them.
Some communities believe that the entire day of Karva Chauth should be dedicated to Vrat. There are a number of stories that tell how the Goddess was associated with Vrat and hence it was supposed to be a day when she should be worshiped. Hence the 'day of Vrat' was also celebrated on this day of Karva Chauth by the married Hindu women. The significance of Vrat, as it is believed by the Hindus cannot be ignored.
All in all, the story behind Karva Chauth and what it symbolizes to the Hindu community is incomplete. In the west, we often associate Vrat with Diwali and similar festivals. We also associate Vrat with a special treat or meal that is served to commemorate the occasion. But the true meaning and symbolism of Karva Chauth, as observed by the Hindus, is all about fertility and marriage and none of these can be epitomized in any better way than through a simple, sweet and dry fruits meal!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
GOD SIDDHANT, YOU FUCKING NEED THERAPY. THROWING YOUR WHOLEASS LIFE AWAY TO TRY AND PROTECT A RANDOM UNBORN CLUMP OF CELLS IS NOT THE WAY TO FUCKING DEAL WITH YOUR DADDY ISSUES.
"kya kamaal ki niraasha phaila rakhi hai tumne sanjivani mein. tumhare maa-baap ne tumhara naam galat rakh diya, haina dr. asha?"
ugh yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar. first of all we have such few female characters here, mardon se bloody bhara pada hai show. upar se iss ek achche compelling female character ka poora ka poora satyanaaash kar diya. main kabhi maaf nahi karoongi writers ko.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
"tumne usse nahi, uski achchaayi ne usse phasaaya."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
badaaaaaaaaaaaaa hi kameena insaan hai tu vardhan. narak ki aag mein jalega. if ishani herself doesn't set you on fire in the sanjivani lobby first.
Tumblr media
perhaps asha will do the honors? looks toh aise hi de rahi hai. all the best asha. that's one way you can redeem yourself in everyone’s eyes, sis.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
fuck this episode is..... too much on me. i'm just hella glad that my period is over, or i would slip into a serious depressive episode over this.
but just..... LOOK AT IT. LOOK AT THE WAY HE CAN’T HELP REACHING OUT TO HOLD HER FACE, THEY BOTH KNOW IT’S INAPPROPRIATE AND ARE TRYING TO RESTRAIN THEMSELVES, BUT HE STILL CAN’T STOP TRYING TO PHYSICALLY COMFORT HER (BECAUSE TOUCH IS HIS LOVE LANGUAGE, IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN.) AND HE CAN’T COZ HE SHOULDN’T AND HE’S DYING ON THE INSIDE BECAUSE OF IT.
I AM IN LEGIT PHYSICAL PAIN FROM SADNESS RIGHT NOW.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i wanna hate asha, but i can't. coz i can really empathize and understand the desperation with which she wants to hold on to her current life, against the forces of patriarchy trying to crush her free will so brutally .
ok maybe i hate her a little, if she'll listen to this fucker and actively make sid's life hard, moreso than what has already transpired.
Tumblr media
MAN WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM GOD I NEED ISHANI AND ANJALI TO TEAM UP AND KICK THIS ASSHOLE'S ASSSSSSSSSSS FOR MESSING WITH THEIR LIVES AND THE LIVES OF THEIR DUDES (DAD/BROTHER/BOYFRIEND) SO BADLYYYYYYYYYYY
