The disqualification effort against Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in the sweeping RICO case against former President Donald Trump and his allies is gaining steam.
Four of the co-defendants in the Georgia election interference case—Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, Cathy Latham and Michael Roman—revealed in Monday court filings that they are filing their own appeals in the rejected bid to remove Willis.
Giuliani is a former Trump attorney, Meadows is the former White House chief of staff, and Latham is a former state Republican leader. Roman is the former Trump aide whose attorney first revealed that Willis was in a personal relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade in January.
They now join Trump, former Georgia GOP Chairman David Shafer and seven other defendants in their bid to challenge Judge Scott McAfee's March ruling.
Earlier this year, McAfee allowed Willis to stay on the case after several defendants took issue with Willis and Wade's "improper" relationship and moved to have her booted from the case over the alleged conflict of interest. Willis and Wade have admitted to the relationship, which they say ended last summer. They argued it had no bearing on the case.
The judge ultimately determined that their relationship did not amount to a conflict of interest but recognized that as long as the two remained on the prosecution, the "appearance of impropriety" would continue to hang over the case. He ruled that either Willis or Wade would have to step down. Wade resigned hours after the ruling.
Although McAfee chose not to disqualify Willis, he granted a request from the co-defendants to have his ruling reconsidered by the Georgia Court of Appeals. Last week, the appeals court agreed to hear the defense's case. A court date has not yet been announced.
Newsweek reached out to Willis via email for comment.
In the appeals application, Trump, Schafer and seven other defendants argued that McAfee's decision to give Willis "the option to simply remove Wade confounds logic and is contrary to Georgia law."
Their application also went a step further, arguing that Willis' disqualification would be "the minimum that must be done to remove the stain of her legally improper and plainly unethical conduct from the remainder of the case" and that the only "truly appropriate remedy" would be an entire dismissal of it.
Willis indicted Trump and 18 co-defendants for their alleged efforts to overturn the results of Georgia's 2020 election last August. Four of those defendants—bail bondsman Scott Hall and former Trump attorneys Sidney Powell, Kenneth Chesebro and Jenna Ellis—have pleaded guilty to charges. Trump and the remaining 14 co-defendants have denied any wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty.
"President Trump looks forward to presenting interlocutory arguments to the Georgia Court of Appeals as to why the case should be dismissed and Fulton County DA Willis should be disqualified for her misconduct in this unjustified, unwarranted political persecution," Trump lawyer Steve Sadow said in a statement responding to the appeals court decision.

A MUST READ!!!
More manipulative underhanded attempts by extremist Trump MAGA cult member conspiracy theorists to UNDERMINE AMERICAN CITIZEN 'VOTES' BEING LEGITIMATELY COUNTED IN THE COMING 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION in order to get dictator-wannabe Trump re-elected. 🙄
"In a basement event space in the Denver suburb of Parker, Tina Peters surveyed a crowd of Colorado Republicans last week and made an unusual pitch for why she should become chair of their beleaguered party: 'There’s no way a jury of 12 people is going to put me in prison.'
Peters was referring to her upcoming trial on seven felony charges related to her role in allegedly accessing confidential voting machine data while she was clerk in western Colorado’s Mesa County. The incident made her a hero to election conspiracy theorists but unpopular with all but her party’s hardest-core voters.
Peters, who condemns the charges as politically motivated, finished second in last year’s GOP primary for secretary of state, Colorado’s top elections position.
Now Peters has become part of a wave of election deniers who, unable to succeed at the polls, have targeted the one post — state party chair — that depends entirely on those hardest-core Republicans.
Embracing election conspiracy theories was a political albatross for Republicans in states that weren’t completely red last year, with deniers losing every statewide bid in the swing states of Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. But the movement has focused on GOP state party chairs — positions that usually are selected by only dedicated activists and have the power to influence the party’s presidential nominating contest and some aspects of election operations, such as recruiting poll watchers.
'The rise of this dangerous ideology nationwide and the rise within party machinery are ominous,' said Norm Eisen, a prominent Washington lawyer and former ambassador who is executive chair of States United Democracy Center, which tracks election deniers. 'It’s an outrageous phenomenon.'
Kristina Karamo, a former community college instructor who lost her bid last fall to become Michigan’s secretary of state by 14 percentage points, won the chair of the Michigan Republican Party a week ago. She beat a fellow election denier, failed attorney general candidate Matthew DePerno.
In Kansas, Mike Brown, a conspiracy theorist who lost his primary bid for secretary of state, was named chair of the state party.
Peters is just one of multiple candidates for the Colorado position who have repeated former President Donald Trump’s lies that President Joe Biden did not legitimately win the 2020 election.
'We can’t just say, ‘Oh, it’s time to get over 2020 and be done with that,''said Aaron Wood, a self-described Christian conservative father also running for Colorado GOP chair, who organized a slate of candidates to take over the party’s top posts. 'Until I have 100% confidence that the election has integrity, I will not be done with that.'
The wave of election deniers follows a push by Trump during his administration to stock the roster of party chairs with loyalists, several of whom supported his attempt to overturn the 2020 election and remain in the White House. Of those, Kelli Ward, the chair of the Arizona GOP, did not run again and was replaced by another Trump loyalist, former state Treasurer Jeff DeWitt. In Georgia, chairman David Shafer has announced he won’t seek another term this June, amid scrutiny over whether he could be indicted for efforts to help Trump overturn the 2020 election.
As in most states, the new Georgia party head will be selected by leaders of local county parties. Many of those are Trump loyalists who also backed Shafer’s bid to overturn Trump’s 2020 loss in the state. But Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, who defied Trump’s request and easily beat a primary challenger last year backed by Shafer, has marginalized the state party, creating a parallel structure to raise money and turn out voters.
That’s an example of how the once powerful post of state party chair has changed.
'It used to be adjacent to public service, to be the state party chair, and now it’s something where you get to dunk on Democrats on Twitter,' said Robert Jones, a Republican pollster in Idaho.
In that state, Dorothy Moon, an election denier and former state representative who made an unsuccessful primary run for secretary of state, became the Idaho GOP chair last year.
Still, Eisen noted that state parties have important roles in appointing poll workers and poll watchers in many states. A perennial fear has been that conspiracists could fill those positions and disrupt elections, though that did not happen in 2022 despite a prominent conservative effort to find more poll watchers.
'Maybe the Karamos and the Browns and the Moons will implode,' Eisen said. 'There is a kind of incompetence that goes with this ideology. But it’s a concerning trend given the power these state parties have.'
Parties also have a major role in structuring their primaries. In Michigan, the party apparatus that Karamo now leads has the power to move its nominating contest to a closed convention, where activists select the winner.
'Donald Trump would love there to be a convention for Michigan’s delegates,' Jason Roe, the former executive director of the state party, said in an interview.
Ironically, Trump had endorsed DePerno, a lawyer who unsuccessfully sued to force a new count in 2020. Instead, Karamo, whom the former president had supported in her secretary of state race, won. She has described abortion as 'child sacrifice' and Democrats as having a 'Satanic agenda.'
Last wek, on the podcast of Trump adviser Steve Bannon last week, Karamo said Michigan was 'ground zero for the globalist takeover of the United States of America.'
In Colorado, many Republican strategists say they are prepared for Peters or another election denier to win the party chair position next month.
'People seem almost resigned that the party is going to fall into the hands of this crowd for the next two years,' said Sage Naumann, one of the operatives, who said usually a chair’s impact on elections is 'neutral,' but that could change.
'If they’re constantly making controversial statements, then they can be detrimental,' Naumann said.
The insurgent candidates running for Colorado’s chair argue things can’t get worse for the GOP in the state. Republicans lost every statewide race by double digits in November and have their smallest share of seats in the Legislature in state history.
The candidates for party chair claim the Colorado GOP has been too timid and needs to be more outspoken and conservative — a risky bid in a state that has been rapidly moving to the left. As part of that, they seek to restrict the primary to only registered Republicans, shutting out voters not affiliated with any party who have been eligible to participate. That would require overturning a voter-approved ballot measure, which activists failed to do in a lawsuit last year. They hope to have a better shot with the party chair’s support.
At the debate last week in Parker, former state Rep. Dave Williams said: 'It’s time we had a warlike leader who is going to go toe-to-toe' with Democrats.
Williams later added: 'Joe Biden is not a legitimate president.'
Only one candidate, Erik Aadland, a military veteran who unsuccessfully ran for Congress last year, cautioned about the election denier rhetoric. He noted that Democrats effectively used a tape of him questioning the validity of the 2020 election against him in his race. In an interview, he said specifically that he worried about Peters’ candidacy.
'It’s not healthy, the words we’re using, the rhetoric we’ve been using,' Aadland said. And, he added, 'I don’t think it’d be healthy to have a chairwoman under seven indictments.'
Peters, however, reveled in her national profile. She noted that she had just started a podcast that had 60,000 downloads on its first day and that she raised $250,000 to fund a recount in three days after the 2022 primary —a recount that confirmed her loss."

....."David Shafer, a former chairman of Georgia's Republican Party and one of the 19 people charged in the Georgia 2020 election interference case, claimed in a Monday court filing that he and the other Republican electors who attempted to falsely certify a victory for Donald Trump were acting at the direction of the former president.
As defendants in the far-reaching indictment begin to surrender to authorities ahead of the Friday deadline, "Shafer's position signals that some may be poised to turn on the former president," Axios reports.
"Mr. Shafer and the other Republican Electors in the 2020 election acted at the direction of the incumbent President and other federal officials," lawyers for the former GOP chairman wrote in the filing.
"Attorneys for the President and Mr. Shafer specifically instructed Mr. Shafer, verbally and in writing, that the Republican electors' meeting and casting their ballots on December 14, 2020 was consistent with counsels' advice and was necessary to preserve the presidential election contest," they added.
Shafer and 15 other Republican electors met at Georgia's capitol on Dec. 14, 2020, and signed a document falsely declaring that Trump had won the state. Shafer had portrayed himself as the "chairperson" of Georgia's Electoral College and filed a fake slate of 16 pro-Trump electors in December 2020, according to The New York Times.
Shafer is facing eight charges in the Georgia indictment, including false statements and writings, forgery in the first degree and impersonating a public officer. In addition to some of the electors and a slew of other alleged conspirators, Trump and several of his former attorneys have also been charged in relation to their alleged roles in attempting to subvert the election results.
The former Republican party chair — like co-defendants Jeffrey Clark and Mark Meadows — is trying to have his state-level case transferred to federal court, which would place the case under the authority of a federal judge and potentially pull a more sympathetic jury pool."

Georgia Gop Chairman May Not Share a Lawyer With Other “Alternative Electors,” According to the Judge
David Shafer, the chairman of the Georgia Republican Party, may not share an attorney with the other 10 GOP activists who acted as fictitious electors on behalf of Donald Trump’s campaign, the judge presiding over an Atlanta-area grand jury investigation into Trump’s attempt to rig the 2020 election ruled on Wednesday. + In court filings, DeKalb County called for $6,105 in compensation, while Cobb County asked for $10,875, according to CNN.  Tr*mp and Georgia Republican Party Chair David Shafer sued in Fulton County Superior Court in December, naming 15 county election supervisors, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) and the state election board as defendants. + "Petitioners apparently believed that they could file their baseless and legally deficient actions with impunity, with no regard for the costs extracted from the taxpayers' coffers or the consequences to the democratic foundations of our country," Daniel White, who represents the Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration and Janine Eveler, the director of the Cobb County Elections Department, said in the filing.
+ The DeKalb motion claims that Tr*mp and Shafer "continued to pursue this litigation after the election contest became moot, all without legal justification."  White told CNN that thus far only DeKalb and Cobb counties are seeking compensation for legal fees but that others are considering similar filings. + Tr*mp repeatedly made unsubstantiated claims of election theft in the Peach State, which Biden was the first Democrat to carry in a presidential election since the 1990s. + In a January 2 call to Raffensperger's office, Tr*mp demanded the secretary of state "find" 11,780 votes for him.  After multiple recounts, Raffensperger certified Biden the winner in December.  "We have now counted legally cast ballots three times, and the results remain unchanged," he said at a December news conference at the state capitol in Atlanta.

BATTLEGROUND STATES Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona Republican Electors Cast Votes for Trump STOP THE STEAL!
Tumblr media
BY BOWEN XIAO
December 14, 2020 Updated: December 14, 2020
Republican electors in four states said on Dec. 14 that they would cast their procedural votes for President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, the latest update contesting the results of the 2020 election.
Republican electors in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona all said they voted for Trump. It comes as their states formally appointed Democratic electors who voted for Democrat Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).
In Michigan, two separate slates of electors were cast: 16 for Trump and 16 for Biden.
“Sending more than one slate of electors is not unheard of,” said Meshawn Maddock, Michigan Republican at-large national elector in an emailed release. “It’s our duty to the people of Michigan and to the U.S. Constitution to send another slate of electors if the election is in controversy or dispute—and clearly it is.”
The Pennsylvania GOP said in a news release that electors met in Harrisburg to “cast a conditional vote” for Trump and Pence “at the request of the Trump campaign.” Their vote comes as Democratic electors cast their Electoral College votes for Biden and Harris.
The Pennsylvania GOP cited the 1960 presidential election between Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy, who would become the eventual winner.
“We took this procedural vote to preserve any legal claims that may be preserved going forward,” said Pennsylvania Trump campaign chairman Bernie Comfort in a statement.
In Georgia, David Shafer, the chairman of the state’s Republican Party, said that GOP electors made their move today because the “President’s lawsuit contesting the Georgia election is still pending.”
“The Republican nominees for Presidential Elector met today at noon at the State Capitol today and cast their votes for President and Vice President,” Shafer said in a Twitter post. “Had we not meet today and cast our votes, the President’s pending election contest would have been effectively mooted. Our action today preserves his rights under Georgia law.”
The same thing was done in Nevada, with the state’s Republican electors casting their vote for Trump and Pence. In a Twitter post by the Nevada GOP, they stated, “History made today.”
Arizona’s Republican presidential electors also voted for Trump and Pence, according to the state’s Republican party.
The Electoral College votes are cast on Dec. 14 and counted on Jan. 6 during a Joint Session of Congress, when the House of Representatives and Senate meet.
After states have completed their vote counts and gathered the official results, “the U.S. Code (3 U.S.C. Section 6) requires the state governors to prepare, ‘as soon as practicable,’ documents known as Certificates of Ascertainment of the vote.”
“The certificates must list the names of the electors chosen by the voters and the number of votes received in the popular election results, also the names of all losing candidates for elector, and the number of votes they received,” according to the Congressional Research Service.
“Certificates of Ascertainment, which are often signed by state governors, must carry the seal of the state. One copy is forwarded to the Archivist of the United States, while six duplicates of the Certificate of Ascertainment must be provided to the electors by December 14, the date on which they meet.”
According to the U.S. Code, when the House and Senate meet, they have to look into “all the certificates and papers purporting to be certificates of the electoral votes.” Several Republican members of Congress have said they would attempt to object to the counting of the Electoral College votes for a state, which would then trigger a series of debates and votes.
White House adviser Stephen Miller told Fox News on Dec. 14 that alternate groups of electors were being chosen in several states, claiming that it would lead to Trump’s reelection.
“The only date in the Constitution is Jan. 20. So we have more than enough time to right the wrong of this fraudulent election result and certify Donald Trump as the winner of the election,” Miller said on “Fox & Friends,” referring to Inauguration Day.
It’s unclear if legislators certified the results in these states. The Epoch Times has reached out to the Republican majority leaders in these states but did not immediately get a response.
Competing Electors
States with close contests between Trump and his rival Biden were expected to potentially produce competing slates of electors, one certified by the governor and the other by the legislature.
It is unclear if all of the Republican electors in the five states were formally certified. Either way, Congress is likely to end up with competing slates of electors come Jan. 6, when the two chambers are scheduled to count the votes. While a process exists to resolve disputes between duelling electors, it has never been tested in the courts.
Approving a set of electors would require the majority in both chambers. The balance of power in the Senate will be determined by the results of the two runoff elections in Georgia. Should Democrats win both seats, a 50-50 tie in the Senate would hand the tiebreaker vote to the vice president.
If lawmakers cannot agree on a set of electors, the country will find itself in uncharted territory, which may prompt intervention from the Supreme Court. If history is a guide, the state delegations in the House may have to pick a president. Republicans have the majority of delegations.
Epoch Times reporter Jack Phillips and Reuters contributed to this report.

Who Are The Two Republicans Running Against Trump
New Post has been published on https://www.patriotsnet.com/who-are-the-two-republicans-running-against-trump/
Who Are The Two Republicans Running Against Trump
Tumblr media
Who Is Not Running For The Seat:
Donald Trump: I’m running against two parties
Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan
Once a back-bencher in the Georgia House, the former professional baseball player won a surprising runoff victory in the 2018 GOP primary over David Shafer and then raced to a general election win.
In Georgias No. 2 job, hes allied himself tightly to Kemp and was one of the early supporters of Loeffler even as he butted heads with fellow Republicans in the fractious Georgia Senate he presides over.
He earned national attention and Trumps fury during the runoffs as he appeared frequently on cable news to counter false claims of widespread voter fraud and urge Republicans to stand up to Trumps attempts to overturn the election.
Now, he often talks of a GOP 2.0 that tilts further away from Trump and toward big-tent conservativism. He said in March that he wouldnt run for the U.S. Senate. He also is not running for another term as lieutenant governor.
Former U.S. Rep. Doug Collins
A four-term Republican congressman from the conservative bastion of Gainesville, Collins aggressively pitched himself for the open U.S. Senate seat following Isaksons resignation and was spurned by Kemp despite Trumps initial support.
He and his allies pilloried Loeffler as a squishy moderate long before he entered the 2020 Senate race, and the two exchanged vicious barbs throughout the campaign.
Attorney General Chris Carr
Former Chief Justice Harold Melton
State Sen. Burt Jones
Why Donald Trump Is Republicans’ Worst Nightmare In 2024
Analysis by Chris Cillizza, CNN Editor-at-large
Earlier this week, amid a rambling attack on the validity of the 2020 election, former President Donald Trump said this: “Interesting that today a poll came out indicating I’m far in the lead for the Republican Presidential Primary and the General Election in 2024.”
“Trump is confiding in allies that he intends to run again in 2024 with one contingency: that he still has a good bill of health, according to two sources close to the former president. That means Trump is going to hang over the Republican Party despite its attempts to rebrand during his exile and its blockade of a Trump-centric investigation into January’s insurrection.”“Manhattan prosecutors pursuing a criminal case against former President Donald Trump, his company and its executives have told at least one witness to prepare for grand jury testimony, according to a person familiar with the matter — a signal that the lengthy investigation is moving into an advanced stage.”
Maryland Gov Larry Hogan
Hogan, 64, is a two-term governor and cancer survivor who underwent chemotherapy while in office. He was declared cancer-free in 2015. A moderate, Hogan told The Washington Post that he saw the 2024 Republican primary as a competition between 10 or 12 or more people fighting in the same lane to carry on the mantle of Donald Trump and another lane straight up the middle that would be much less crowded. Though he said it was too early to say whether he saw himself in that lane, Hogan wrote in his 2020 memoir Still Standing that members of Trumps cabinet approached him about challenging Trump in the GOP 2020 primary.
Florida Gov Ron Desantis
DeSantis narrowly beat out Trump in a straw poll at the Western Conservative Summit in Denver last month, but his greatest strength could also prove to be his greatest weakness. Praised by Republicans as a next-generation Trump, it could put him on a collision course with Trump should both run.
DeSantis is up for reelection next year, and hes purposely avoided Iowa to not drive 2024 speculation, according to Politico. Still, hes building out a gubernatorial record sure to please primary voters. Name a top Republican issue today, chances are DeSantis has signed a bill and/or has run Facebook ads about it.
Hes signed bills banning vaccine passports, restricting ballot drop boxes and voting by mail, and setting mandates for civics curriculum in the state. Another bill prohibiting deplatforming was signed into law in May, but a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction on Wednesday, arguing it likely violates social media networks First Amendment freedom of speech rights. Hes run Facebook ads about critical race theory and transgender athletes in sports.
But DeSantis has backed away from partisanship when responding to the building collapse in Surfside, Florida. The first-term governor welcomed President Joe Biden to the state last week when he visited to meet with families and survivors. Youve recognized the severity of this tragedy from day one and youve been very supportive, DeSantis said of Biden.

But five of the pro-impeachment members are battle-tested incumbents in crucial swing seats that Republicans need to hold. That includes Rep. David Valadao , who is close to McCarthy and just won back his seat after losing in 2018; Rep. Fred Upton , a House veteran whom Republicans are desperately trying to prevent from retiring; Rep. Peter Meijer , a freshman who replaced retiring Trump critic Justin Amash; and Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler , one of the only Republicans to represent a district touching the Pacific Ocean.
While the makeup of their constituencies are likely to change somewhat in redistricting, all five ran ahead of Trump to secure their reelections. Trump handily lost Valadaos and Rep. John Katkos districts in 2020 and 2016 and carried the other three with 51 percent of the vote or less.
President Trump can play in any open seat he wants. That’s fine, said Sarah Chamberlain, the head of the center-right Republican Main Street Partnership. But to challenge the Main Street members, frankly, and have them lose a primary with the majority on the line Emmers absolutely right. I don’t know if whoever beats them in a primary can win a general.
If ultra-conservative or pro-Trump candidates were to prevail in primaries for some of those swing seats, the GOP risks losing the general elections in those districts, said Cole, a former NRCC chair. Thats a concern,” he added.
Winning the majority to me is not worth selling our soul, he added.
Filed Under:
Sen Ted Cruz Of Texas
During his remarks at the Faith & Freedom Coalition Road to Majority conference in Florida last month, Cruz said that a conservative revival is coming and hearkened back to the Reagan revolution. It took Jimmy Carter to give us Ronald Reagan, he said. Joe Biden is Jimmy Carter 2.0. Left unsaid, but implied, is that Cruz sees himself as the Reagan 2.0 who will ensure Biden is a one-term president.
Cruz said at that conference that having social conservative or patriotic views can get you canceled, and its time to fight back. He also recited a favorite quote from the late Andrew Breitbart who said politics is downstream from culture, and said the phrase was now outdated. Today, politics is culture, Cruz said, which might help explain why he signaled his support to free Britney Spears from her conservatorship the day after her court testimony.
Cruz has begun making endorsements in other races, including Susan Wright in the runoff for Texas 6th Congressional District later this month, as well as former Rep. Matt Salmon in Arizonas gubernatorial race next year. While Republicans are undoubtedly happy to have Cruzs support, Democrats like it, too, at least in Virginia, where fundraising emails from Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe that mention Cruzs endorsement of his Republican opponent Glenn Youngkin bring in big bucks, per the Dallas Morning News.
More Gop Challengers Line Up Against Trump More States Cancel Their Primaries
WASHINGTON President Donald Trump now has three GOP primary challengers, but they won’t be given a chance to compete in at least four states after Republicans there decided to scrap their presidential nominating contests in favor of supporting Trump.
The Republican parties of Nevada and South Carolina, both crucial early nominating states, voted this weekend not to hold contests, as did Kansas and Arizona.
“With no legitimate primary challenger and President Trump’s record of results, the decision was made to save South Carolina taxpayers over $1.2 million and forgo an unnecessary primary,” South Carolina GOP Chairman Drew McKissick said in a statement. “President Trump and his administration have delivered for South Carolinians, and we look forward to ensuring that Republican candidates up and down the ballot are elected in 2020.”
Iowa Republican Presidential Caucuses
Jump to navigationJump to search
The 2020 Iowa Republican presidential caucuses took place on Monday, February 3, 2020, as the first caucus or primary in the Republican Party presidential primaries for the 2020 presidential election. The Iowa caucuses are a closed caucus, with Iowa awarding 40 pledged delegates to the Republican National Convention, allocated on the basis of the results of the caucuses. Incumbent president Donald Trump received about 97 percent of the vote to clinch 39 delegates, while Bill Weld received enough votes to clinch 1 delegate.
Heres Whos Running Against Trump
Is There Any Republican That Would Actually Run Against Trump?
So whos decided to try to run against Trump so far?
Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, who ran in the Libertarian VP spot in 2016, is running for President as a Republican.
Donald Trump, by turns arrogant and paranoid, has made no secret of the fact that he wishes to be crowned as President rather than elected. That might be fine in a monarchy, but we overthrew ours two centuries ago.https://t.co/EzHZ2yeFxJ
The One Place House Republicans Want To Be Trump
Republicans are sounding the alarm that his attempts to meddle in primaries could hurt the partys efforts to win back the majority.
Link Copied
Republicans have a message for Donald Trump: stay out of our primary races.
As Trump ramps up his revenge tour against the House Republicans who voted to impeach him, GOP lawmakers are sounding the alarm that his attempts to meddle in primaries could hurt the partys efforts to win back the House next year, especially in critical swing districts in New York, Michigan and California. With just five seats between the GOP and the House majority, any one race could determine the balance.
The loudest warning shot came Wednesday from Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer, the head of the National Republican Congressional Committee, who told POLITICO Playbook he planned to urge the former president to refrain from playing in primaries. Thats not going to be helpful, he said. Its probably better for us that we keep these people.
That’s not to say Republicans don’t see Trump still playing a role in the future of the party. But an increasing number of them from across the conference are echoing Emmer, pleading with Trump to back off even as they simultaneously acknowledge the former commander in chief is a private citizen and can do whatever he wants.
I look forward to working with each member of our conference in support of their re-election efforts, McCarthy said in the statement. We will take back the House in November 2022.
Who Is Considering A Run:
Herschel Walker
Georgia Republicans have been buzzing with the rumor that the UGA football legend and friend of Trumps could challenge Warnock next year. And the former president has chimed in, to join the fray.
Walker emerged as a voice for far-right conservative causes during Trumps term in the White House and spoke in support of the president at last years Republican National Convention.
He also has a history of violent and erratic behavior, some of which he outlined in a 2008 book that detailed his long struggle with mental illness. Subsequent reports exposed questionable business dealings, threats he leveled against his ex-wife and other issues that could factor into a campaign.
Polls show him as the front-runner in the GOP race, thanks in part to his soaring name recognition. He would be helped by Trumps boast that Walker would be unstoppable in a campaign.
Former U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler
The former financial executive was tapped by Gov. Brian Kemp to fill Isaksons seat in hopes of winning back women and more moderate voters who were disgusted by Trump.
Instead, Loefflers short stint in the Senate turned into a race to the partys right, as she dueled with Collins for the hearts of conservatives and pumped more than $31 million of her own money into her campaign.
Shes said shes weighing a comeback bid but that I dont know if any Republican can win if we dont shore up what were doing around voter registration, engagement and election integrity.
The 2024 Republican Presidential Candidate Wild Cards
The first Democratic debate back in 2019 had 20 TWENTY! candidates, so dont be surprised if the Republican field is just as large or larger. We could have some more governors or representatives run, or even other nontraditional candidates, like a Trump family member, a Fox News host or a celebrity, like Dwayne The Rock Johnson, whos said hes seriously considering a run. Stranger things have happened.
What Happened: Arizona Turned Blue In The 2020 Presidential Election But The Republicans Still Control The State
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reflecting broader democratic shifts, recent decades have seen big changes in politics in Arizona: moving from deep red Republican domination to a particular shade of purple over the last decade. Eldrid Herrington maps how these changes have played out in recent years, the 2020 general election, and what they might mean moving forward.
Following the 2020 US General Election, our mini-series,What Happened? explores aspects of elections at the presidential, Senate, House of Representative and state levels, and also reflects on what the election results will mean for US politics moving forward. If you are interested in contributing, please contact Rob Ledger or Peter Finn .
At 2.14pm on the 6th of January 2021, as Congress conducted its ceremonial Electoral Vote count, Paul Gosar of Arizona was addressing the US House of Representatives, challenging the electoral votes in his own state, when he and his colleagues had to be rushed out of the chamber and taken to safety elsewhere in the Capitol building. Hours later, when the legislature returned, almost all Republican representatives from Arizona persisted in repeating the lie that their party did not, in fact, lose the elections in the state .
Republicans Cannot Promise To Check Biden While Also Claiming That He Lost
A lot is riding on Januarys two U.S. Senate runoff elections in Georgia: For the GOP, winning at least one of these races would mean narrowly retaining control of one house of Congress, and with it the ability to preserve the filibuster rule and maintain a check on the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives and incoming Democratic president. Those two races should be the Republican Partys highest priority.
But the biggest threat to Republicans in those races might not be their runoff opponents or the Democratic Party apparatus. Right now, it might be a Republican: outgoing President Trump.
Its no surprise that Trump has gone all in on questioning the results in his losing reelection bid. After his very first electoral contest, the 2016 Iowa Republican caucuses, which he lost to Sen. Ted Cruz , Trump said that Cruz stole the election and claimed that a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified. Ahead of Election Day 2016, Trump said that election is going to be rigged. Even after he won, and became president, he convened a voter fraud commission, maintaining that fraud was the reason his opponent, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, had a popular vote tally millions higher than his. It is Trumps approach whenever he loses or expects to lose, including in the election he just lost:
