He didn't know when it started, but the seed was likely planted long ago.

It was a lovely spring day. The floor felt warm after basking under the sun for a whole afternoon. Seyoon sat cross-legged against the wall, a towel draped over his shoulder as he watched his brother glide across the space before him. He truly was talented, Seyoon thought. So captivating.

He flashed Yoojoon a smile in the mirror as per their usual routine. Practice together, work hard, exchange smiles, and get dinner afterward.

The warmth had disappeared from his smile, though, and his eyes had gone dark with feelings he dared not to fully accept. Seyoon wondered if Yoojoon had noticed, around or even before he did. And if they were both just refusing to acknowledge the tension out of the desire to preserve their relationship.

Seyoon knew this was his fault, because who else could be blamed, right? Certainly not Yoojoon. The perfect, wonderful Yoojoon. With his beautiful face and gentle demeanor. He who would not have to worry about money and was beloved by all...Including the simplest, sweetest boy of Legacy. Even Seyoon's mother - the despicable witch - would lovingly call Yoojoon her son while Seyoon, who was actually birthed by her, was referred to by his first name.

He would never forget the night that woman broke his heart. She stroked his hair and smiled. Called him handsome, only to remind him that he would never be as good-looking as his brother after his heart briefly lifted with joy. God, he hated her. If only he didn't have a heart left for her to break.

Envy was burning. Scorching hot and painful. Seyoon clenched his teeth and attempted to push it back down. This time, however, the fire remained in his chest. Maybe his self-control was slipping. Or perhaps the envy had already spread throughout his entire body and there was finally nowhere else to hide.
