What Is The Real Crossroads

The crossroads or the “forks of the road” is a place where two roads meet.

The crossroads is the land that belongs to no one, a place outside the borders, which is a good place to perform traditional African magical rituals whether that be Hoodoo or Vodou etc. Like the cemetery, and the railroads the crossroads has its own spirit. The crossroads may also serve as an altar where offerings can be laid out. There crossroads in the hoodoo tradition: the performance of the crossroads ritual to gain skill and to perform magical spells.

Working for Clients Using The Crossroads:

A root doctor or conjure worker may go down to the crossroads for clients to help them dispose of ongoing negative situations and conditions in their lives. Hoodoo root workers also call upon the spirits of the crossroads on behalf of their clients, gather crossroads stones or dirt for spell work.

The Portable Crossroads:

Not all rituals that use the crossroads need to take place at an actual crossroads. When doing magic some hoodoo practitioners use what is known as a “portable crossroads” or a circle with a cross inside, also called an “X” or “cross-mark”. This portable crossroads can be drawn on the ground with a stick or on an altar with sachet powders. It may be painted on a wall or laid out on a blanket.

Other Cultures Using The Crossroads:

Many of the spirits and deities from the African Traditional and African Diasporic religions are associated with the crossroads. In Lukumi / Santeria, the orisha associated with the crossroads is Eleggua.

In the Louisiana Voodoo tradition or Palo Mayombe, there are several lwa associated with the crossroads including Papa Legba and Met Carrefour. In India, the Hindu deities associated with the crossroads are Ganesha, the opener of the way, and Bhairava, an aspect of Shiva who protects the boundaries. Catholic Tradition the Catholic Church Saint, Saint Peter, is associated with the crossroads showing the crossed keys of heaven. Saint Expedite is also associated with the crossroads.

The crossroads is a spiritual Nexus, a place to help or to get help. It's Powerful.

The Kongo cosmogram or "Yowa" cross represents the human life cycle of death and rebirth of the soul. In this cycle, a body of water flows between the physical realm and the spiritual realm. Kongo water spirits, (Sim'bi) are believed to have the ability to travel between the two realms. The Yowa cross is the origins of the Hoodoo crossroads.

Last do not disposed your trash at a crossroads it is disrespectful to the spirits there, I mean would you want someone to dump there trash at your place. 🤔 Think about it ..

Black Cockerel at the Crossorads

Sometimes, when I have called on a spirit for aid, I recognize their responses in omens as subtle as abupt shifts in the weather or a sudden chorus of birdsong. Other times, however, the omens are considerably more conspicuous.

A while back, I carried out an important rite in which I called upon the aid of a powerful Crossroads Entity. If succesfully carried out, I was to encounter an "unmistakable sign" to confirm the support of this petitioned Wight, and while I didn't know what this would look like, I trusted that I would know when I saw it.

Three days later, I was forced to pull over in a town I'm not especially familiar with in order to check on the directions I was following. I parked in the first seemingly innocuous spot I could find, which appeared to be a little dead-end pullout. When I parked, however, I was immediately shocked to notice a black rooster wandering pleasantly about the area. I got out of my car to check on it and see if it was alright, and I discovered that it wasn't just a black rooster, but a melanistic one (meaning that it bears a mutation, similar to albinism, that results in the hyper-production of pigment.) This, in itself, was quite unusual, but what really stunend me was the way the rooster acted towards me. He followed me around, and when I put out my hand, he pecked at it with sweet curiosity before allowing me to pat him like one might a cat. Then, when I put out both hands planning to stroke either side of him, he simply walked right into my arms and nuzzled into me, allowing me to pick him up with no qualms at all. He even jumped into my car when I was sitting back inside it to do a quick reading on the situation, and most bizarrely (and endearingly) of all, he literally picked a (very telling) card out of the deck for me while I was reading.

Just as I was deciding that he was likely a lost or abandoned pet and getting ready to take him with me somewhere, he ran off like a mischievous sprite and disappeared. While I shook my head in bewilderment and called my husband to tell him about it, I discovered that what had looked like a dead-end to me when I pulled over earlier actually had a discreet route through it. Realizing that this surreal encounter took place at a "hidden crossroads" of sorts gave me goosebumps and left no doubt in my mind that I had received my "unmistakable sign."

Black Man At The Crossroads Day

Happy Halloweeeeen Hoodoos!! On this final day of Hoodoo Heritage Month, we celebrate the Black Man at the Crossroads Day. 💀🖤

The Crossroads is integral to the religious fabric of Kongo Cosmology. At the crux of ancient ancestral wisdom (the Kalunga line) and the realm of the living (the Mukala line), is our place of significant power, transformation, & Spirit.

Here, we meet The Black Man (not to be confused with The Devil); a Kongo-Bantu ancestral spirit who is a gatekeeper of closed/open roads & conductor of the spiritual energies at the Crossroads, which catalyze shifts, changes, + movement from the spirit world into the physical world.

When we go to The Crossroads to sing, dance, pray, invoke, petition our spirits or to conjure, forage, consecrate workings, deliver/dispose offerings… we come to The Black Man, among many other spirits.

Today we celebrate him, acknowledge his presence, and give specific offerings as tokens of gratitude and thanks.

As with any ancestral or Hoodoo Spirit, cultivating a healthy relationship & honoring the principles of energy exchange is paramount. Come correct or not at all. And respect his gangsta.

*i just have such a strong mental image of how i would use this song as a cold open/intro if katc was a tv series and i DESPERATELY want to make an MV as if it were. but just imagine syb running through the whitetails, trying to shake her tail of Chosen and Judges, meanwhile jacob is tracking her through the scope of his sniper rifle and the second syb loses her tail and takes a breath, jacob has her lined up in the crosshairs. the screen goes dark with the sound of gunfire and as the song trails off, the title card "kneeling at the crossroads" in serif font fades in.

i have this personal kinda convoluted headcanon about the fade that i always think about whenever im reminded of the decade or so ashara's gonna spend seperated from solas between dai and dadw. bc at some point most people would more or less move on right?? like after whole entire decade removed from some short lived dalliance?? but i like to imagine that time moves/feels a lot slower in the deep fade. especially if you have mastery over it like solas does (+ ashara with his mark + her rift spec). so its like,, not only did they spend so many days together during the main game, but also their NIGHTS were spent in the fade together, stretched out significantly longer in dreams, exploring and talking and going on several 24episode seasons worth of mini adventures and filler episodes. and ofc nobody understands why shes still so wounded by him and ofc she cant explain it bc it hurts to talk about !! shes too proud to tell them that sbe'd trusted with him something so intimate, and because of that it felt like as if theyd spent SO much more time together !!!!! idk. helps me reconcile the fact that she really cant get over him even if she tries.

HEY EVERYONE do you remember my story I'm making?? With my own little blorbos?? No?

Well let me remind you!

At a crossroads in small town Sweden, there's a hot dog stand with a unique business model: If you can guess the Vendor's name, you get your food for free! BUT. If you fail, you owe him your soul. Yes, he is the literal devil.

A mid/late 20's guy called Tobbe stumbles into the stand, and immediately decides that that is the eaxct type of guy you want to be best friends (or more) with.

Above, we see Vendor and Tobbe, the stand, one of the customers (a high school music teacher/man killing water spirit)(Näcken), and an old friend of the vendor (a local activist/guardian spirit)(Huldra).
