COVID-19

We are currently in the largest COVID surge of all-time in the US.

There is also a new variant that is not protected by the previous vaccine.

Please start back masking and please get the COVID-19 booster (schedule with your local pharmacy).

Wastewater counts are obscenely high right now, belying the official case numbers. Considering that we've stopped collecting or reporting most COVID data, wastewater is the best way we have to judge the actual infection rate now. Wastewater is collected from washing our hands, going the bathroom, etc. We shed COVID into the water system and based on the concentration of COVID in waste water, we can get very accurate estimates of how many people are infected at one time.

We are currently seeing ten million new infections a week, and can expect that to greatly increase within the next three weeks.

* If you've stopped masking, please start again, for your own safety and the safety of your community. Many hospital systems are already trending toward being overwhelmed right now; wear a mask when in crowded, enclosed, or poorly ventilated areas, and keep a safe distance from others, as feasible.

* Avoid unnecessary gatherings where possible.

* Ventilate your spaces well (Corsi-Rosenthal Box).

* Reevaluate casual habits (touching face, respiratory etiquette—covering coughs and sneezes, clean your hands regularly, stay home if you are sick, get tested if you have symptoms, or if you might have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 or influenza)

Please be aware of Long Covid.

COVID impacts the immune system similar to HIV in that it hides in the body and continues to wreak havoc in the various organ system by driving inflammation and disrupting the immune response. It causes neurological, vascular, and immune dysfunction.

Patients with long COVID generally have symptoms that fall into three categories or phenotypes: fatigue, neurocognitive symptoms such as brain fog or headaches, and cardiovascular symptoms such as shortness of breath, heart arrythmias, exercise intolerance, and blood clots. Patients may have more than one type, and some also have symptoms like constipation, diarrhea, or loss of taste and smell that don’t seem to fit neatly into one of the three groups.

This is a period where we need to act with more care. Not a time to panic, but a time to be more cautious.

If you contract COVID, these are some helpful things that work to reduce viral load in the hope of minimising symptoms. And your chance of developing Long Covid:

* Brush & floss as usual

* Mouthwash (CPC (cetylpyridinium chloride, an ingredient in many/most commercial mouthwashes), cooled green tea, salt water)

* Green Tea (drink on an empty stomach if possible; can also be used for swishing/gargling once it has cooled; if green tea isn't doable for you, black tea is an alternative)

* Nasal Spray (if chemicals in nasal spray causing an issue for you, saline nasal spray also an option)

* Vitamin C supplement

* Antihistamines

* Other prophylactics to consider: Nattokinase, Grape Seed Extract, EGCG supplements

* Natto (if this is something you already eat, or would like to try. It's fermented soya beans and is popular in Japan

* Mask & Vaccinate!! A fully vaccinated individual is five times less likely to continue to have any symptoms or ill-effects three months after their initial infection compared to someone who has not been vaccinated.

I can’t remember if I’ve ever mentioned this before, but something I’ve been thinking about for a while is how Cass and Hector actually... mirror each other a lot?? Like- Cass has all of this devotion to Rapunzel that’s emotionally complicated due to it being a mix of her status as Rapunzel’s servant and her genuine love for Rapunzel, which becomes strained because no matter how hard she tries she can’t escape how the power divide effects the nature of their relationship. Their friendship ends up falling apart with Cassandra’s hand being mutilated in the Great Tree and Rapunzel (because she has none of the interpersonal skills necessary to cope with any of this) pushes all of it onto Cass and ignores how she’s hurt her, leaving Cass emotionally isolated. 

And then you have Hector, whose devotion to Edmund drives him to push all of the people who care about him away and live in isolation to uphold Edmund’s wish. Hector is shown to put his loyalty before everything else even as it hurts him (”I’m sorry it came to this, sister.”). Hector pulls the spear out of the Great Tree’s heart, ready to sacrifice himself for his cause, only to be possessed instead. We see Hector be stripped of his free will due to his loyalty again with the Mindtrap... and no reaction from Edmund. 

Both Cassandra and Hector have made great sacrifices in their loyalty only to get burned for it time and time again. This parallel probably wasn’t intentional, but it fascinates me and it’d be cool to see some of it in analysis/fanworks.

also my mom just booked a trip w our yoga group to this volcano/park for September which is cool enough already but i was thinking that if i get my scholarships I'd buy tickets for placebo the next day and also two days prior is a friend's bday party and a couple of days later is my friends' farewell party . nice

Is it bad this forced isolation feels almost freeing to me?

On days where I have no obligations outside of my apartment i always feel bad because i can't even bring myself to leave the house to go for a walk or even take out the trash

But now, this is how I am supposed to live. This is the responsible way to act. And while I'm stuck in a one room apartment, i feel the most content i have in a while

It's not like I'm locked up. It's like I've been granted the freedom to stay inside

#i feel like that should be a depressing realization #also working out #i usually feel incredibly guilty if i don't work out at least a little bit #(and usually i don't have to force myself. i LIKE working out) #but i haven't felt like exercising in 2 weeks #and instead of forcing myself to do something anyway i am just content with doing nothing #(usually if i don't feel like exercising it's because of depression or something. so making myself do something anyway is actually GOOD #but rn i think my body is really just busy with corona and it doesn't even crave any additional movement #that being said i do want to do some stretching later. i don't even feel like it but i don't want to lose all my flexibility #just because i have a free card to not do anything. (i know i wouldn't lose all of it. but it's probably good to not let myself get too #stiff in the course of the isolation lol.) #sorry I'm rambling. that's not even the point of what i was initially saying #i guess this just proves that I actually don't like going out #or people for that matter. i think if it wasn't for the people i probably would love going for walks and everything #but I'm much more contend when i don't have to interact with anyone even if it's just passing someone on the street #shut up amy
