NUPL Cebu Chapter on Twitter @nupl_cebu:
Press Release
Feb 25, 2024
The NUPL Cebu Chapter expresses its strongest condemnation over the killings of Hannah Jay Cesista and four other individuals, namely Domingo Compoc, Perlito Historia, Marlon Omosura, and Alberto Sancho in Bilar, Bohol, collectively known as Bilar 5.
An Iskolar ng Bayan, Hannah earned her Political Science degree from the UP Cebu. As a college student, she joined various organizations aligned with her principles and beliefs - Youth For Christ UP Cebu Chapter, Cebu Students for Justice and Peace, & Kabataan Partylist UP Cebu.
She then enrolled in the University of San Carlos (USC) to pursue a law degree. During her law school days, Hannah volunteered at NUPL Cebu and was instrumental in forming the law students’ arm of the Cebu Chapter.
NUPL Cebu members can attest to Hannah’s unwavering dedication and active involvement in the chapter’s activities in providing legal services to marginalized communities.
She was always the first person to volunteer when lawyers needed assistance in the countless legal work of the organization. She joined community visits for paralegal trainings & discussions on human rights despite the demands of law school. Hannah also passed the 2022 Bar Exams.
Numerous reports have circulated concerning an alleged “encounter” between the New People’s Army (NPA) and Philippine National Police (PNP) at Sitio Matin-ao 2, Barangay Campagao, Bilar, Bohol last February 23, 2024, Friday.
Contrary to law enforcement’s claims, initial reports received by NUPL Cebu show significant discrepancies and expose their possible commission of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) violations.
Several accounts support that no encounter has transpired. Instead, the five individuals were ordered to vacate the house where they were staying. The four men were forced to strip off their shirts. Along with Cesista, they were forced to roll in the mud.
The witnesses narrated that they were pleading with state forces to stop their inhumane acts but to no avail.
Killing Hannah and her companions is one of the many state-sanctioned efforts to harm activists, human rights workers, and dissenters- as part of their futile attempt to conceal the harsh realities of poverty and inequality in this country.
NUPL Cebu expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Hannah. We call on the Philippine government to conduct a prompt and impartial investigation and to hold accountable the perpetrators responsible for the deaths of Bilar 5. Hustisya alang sa Bilar 5!
Long live Hannah Cesista! Long live Domingo Compoc! Long live Parlito Historia! Long live Marlon Omosura! Long live Alberto Sancho! Resume Peace Talks!

‘Aloha Got Soul’ encompasses a vibrant era of contemporary music made in Hawai’i during the 1970s to the mid-1980s as jazz, rock, funk, disco and R&B co-existed alongside Hawaiian folk music. Hawai’i’s identity had undergone huge change: statehood into America in ‘59 and the Vietnam War were the backdrop as Hawai’i’s youth found inspiration in a new wave of international music led initially by The Beatles and Stones and, later, by US R&B bands like Earth Wind & Fire and Tower Of Power. Garage bands flourished during the ‘60s and, by the ‘70s, live music was at its peak. Waikīkī was filled with clubs: The Point After, Infinity’s, Hawaiian Hut, Spats and more. For the ‘70s generation of artists, some came through the talent contest ‘Home Grown’ and its accompanying compilation LP. Singer Nohelani Cypriano won it with her instant radio hit, ‘Lihue’. Other winning songs, like Marvin Franklin’s soul surfer jam ‘Kona Winds’, burned more slowly but have endured with DJs today. Many records also packed a powerful message. In 1978, Hawaiian was made the official state language and a huge movement arose to revive hula and traditional music. Steve & Teresa’s ‘Kaho’olawe Song’ longs for an island long gone: the US military had used Kaho’olawe as a bombing range since Pearl Harbor. Nohelani Cypriano sang about the once sleepy town of Kailua, now a popular tourist destination: “Kailua needs no high-rise with her blue skies, not for our eyes. Can you realize?” Leading Hawaiian artists like Aura, Mike Lundy and keyboardist Kirk Thompson’s Lemuria took time in high quality facilities like Broad Recording Studio to make albums. Others grabbed studio time when they could: Tender Leaf’s Murray Compoc worked for the city bus by day and recorded an album during night sessions. Other albums were spontaneous. In 1983, Steve Maii & Teresa Bright recorded an acoustic set in just 3 hours after being invited to a studio following a gig. For the artists of the ‘70s, the climate for music changed rapidly during the mid-‘80s as DJ culture grew and live venues shut down. Hawai’i’s R&B era shone brightly and relatively briefly but, despite brilliant musicians, regular gigs and LP releases, most of the music barely made it to the mainland. Thanks largely to Aloha Got Soul’s Roger Bong, a new interest in this fertile era of Hawaiian music has grown, culminating in this new compilation of overlooked gems. ‘Aloha Got Soul’ is compiled and annotated by Bong and features rare photos and original artwork.

At first, follow him, please, and enjoy your art. Is @Marcellosanchez on Instagram, and his facebook is Marcello Sánchez.
In other side, his history inspires to do and learn like you want and before it can be so later, and nothing would be to eable to stop you. But just is our desicion. Now, I want to share my music (it´s not mine, just I have covers. No yet I can be a compocer, but I have some small things) and practice to be a better musican, because I’m lyric as Martin (his real name) and I want to play as he.
And Apocalyptica, a really amazing band. With a real definicion as art, Inspires and  changes lifes. Never, they stop to make new masterpieces and play on limits of music.

NPA rebel's body exhumed in Bohol
#PHnews: NPA rebel's body exhumed in Bohol
CEBU CITY – Authorities in Bohol exhumed on Thursday a decomposing body of a suspected member of the New People's Army in Barangay Rizal, Batuan town in Bohol, an Army officer said.
The body of a certain "Ka Willy" who is also known as "Dax" and "Ar-Ar", 43, was recovered at around 8 a.m. in Sitio Tubod Soso by members of the Bohol Provincial Police Office’s Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) and the 47th Infantry “Katapatan” Battalion.
1st Lt. Elma Grace Remonde, civil military operations officer of 47th IB, said the body of the suspected NPA rebel was discovered after Crisologo "Ka Sam" Guimaras, a suspected terrorist who was captured during the encounter between the troops of the battalion and NPA members in Sevilla town last June 26, revealed to them the burial site.
“Upon hearing from him (Guimaras) that Ka Willy was buried somewhere in Barangay Rizal, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the 47th IB proceeded in the area for exhumation,” she said.
Rizal Barangay chairman Rolando Pataca and some members of the media in Bohol witnessed the exhumation of the remains around 200 meters away from the captured enemy's lair in Batuan.
Guimaras told authorities that Ka Willy was the vice squad leader of Squad 3, Bohol Party Committee led by Domingo Compoc or “Commander Cobra”.
Based on accounts, Ka Willy wanted to apply for a leave sometime in 2019 so that he could see his family in Negros for it was already nine years since he left them and joined the armed movement in the mountains.
However, Compoc allegedly rejected his request to go home together with some of his companions.
Remonde said authorities could not ascertain which province in Negros Island is Ka Willy’s address but they are now investigating his place of origin based on the revelations of Guimaras.
The Army officer said Ka Willy could not have gone home to see his family alone as he was not capable of taking a trip without a companion, considering that he could neither read nor write.
Investigators are now checking if Ka Willy shot himself in August of 2019 out of desperation or was murdered.
The SOCO team is working to establish the true identity of the dead rebel. (PNA)
