Our film Cold Copy comes out in 8 days! Good journalism is everywhere and more important than ever. I know I sometimes feel overwhelmed among the sheer amount of stuff flying at us, not always knowing what’s true or ignorable or meaningful. With this film I wanted to examine the dark side of that feeling, and how it can push us towards baser things: what resonates; what makes us feel good; what we want to be true instead of what is. And I wanted to do it in a heightened, fun, slightly crazy way, by having misguided characters break all the rules and hopefully show the human cost of lying to ourselves. Can’t wait for you to see it.

Cold Copy's third screening was a full house. I'm so grateful to the cast and crew, who together made a movie so much better than the one in my head or the one on the page. I’m also grateful to be here, in New York City. I went to college here and in a lot of ways I became an adult here. I feel like this city pretty much owns my soul, so to get to premiere my first feature at the Tribeca Festival has been an incredible honor. It’s obviously a movie that’s deeply personal to me, not just because it’s my first – though that does have a bit do with it – but because with it I wanted to explore a particular fear that I think a lot of us are feeling now. We live in a time where truth has become a controversial term, where misinformation can spread a hundred times faster than any fact check or clarification can keep up. And we rightly hear lots of sweeping conversations about what that might do to democracy, about how it can demonize vulnerable groups, about how it threatens to destabilize society as we know it. No doubt we all worry about it. But I think the thing we sometimes overlook is just the personal, emotional effect of a world that values attention more than accuracy, how it can make us lie to ourselves and act in ways we never would otherwise. Any of you who’ve spent any significant amount of time on social media will have felt that pressure yourself, to present a version of yourself that isn’t quite true to the world because you think it’ll get a better response, more laughter, more attention, more admiration, more likes. That instinct is what this film is about, the way our insecurities affect our relationship with the truth, and if that’s something you’ve grappled with even a little, then I hope this film will resonate with you, maybe even scare you a little. I can't wait to share this with everyone❤️
