Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the couple of Andhra Pradesh State's new Governor Abdul Nazir had a courtesy meeting at the Raj Bhavan. Abdul Nazir will be sworn in as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh on 24th tomorrow. Arrangements are being made for the swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhavan. Lok Sabha polls: Congress fields YS Sharmila from Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa
The Congress on Tuesday released a new list of 17 candidates from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar and West Bengal for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The party has fielded YS Sharmila, the sister of YSR Congress Party founder and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, from the state’s Kadapa constituency.
The seat is currently represented by Sharmila’s cousin Avinash Reddy from the YSR Congress Party.

On January 4, Sharmila joined the Congress and merged her outfit, the YSR Telangana Party, with the party. Subsequently, she was appointed chief of the party’s Andhra Pradesh unit.
Sharmila launched the YSR Telangana Party in June 2021 on the birth anniversary of her father and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. In November, the YSR Telangana Party announced unconditional support to the Congress for the state polls.
On Tuesday, the Congress also released two other lists, containing the names of 114 candidates for the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections and 49 names for Assembly polls in Odisha.
The Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1. The results will be announced on June 4.

Cyclone Michaung Ravages Andhra Pradesh: Destruction and Relief Efforts Underway
The severe cyclonic storm Michaung struck Andhra Pradesh, wreaking havoc across six coastal districts, devastating crops and disrupting communication networks. Gusty winds of 90-110 kmph battered the coastline, causing significant damage.
Torrential rains pounded Chittoor, Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, Bapatla, and Krishna districts, with warnings of more downpours in coastal and Rayalaseema regions. Uprooted trees and electric poles cluttered the coastal areas, prompting relief teams into action.
Bapatla alone deployed 50 special teams for cyclone relief measures. Over 1,350 people were relocated to 27 relief camps as a precaution. Authorities are assessing damage in severely affected villages while monitoring crop devastation.
Sea turbulence reached alarming levels, causing high waves in Suryalanka and surges in Bapatla, Repalle, and Nizampatnam. Tragically, a police constable lost his life due to a fallen tree in Kadapa district.
Reports of extensive agricultural damage surfaced in multiple districts, urging Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to order relief measures. Over 9,500 people found shelter in 211 relief camps, emphasizing the need for swift power restoration and aid distribution.
The CM instructed officials to ensure minimal loss of life and property, demanding prompt relief aid and damage assessment through village volunteers. The state stands united in efforts to mitigate the devastating impact of Cyclone Michaung.

For Chandrababu Naidu's Bicycle, A Puncture Is All It Takes
Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu would often take a jibe at every public meeting he addressed -- that his political rival Jagan Mohan Reddy has spent time in jail.
For the YSRCP and its leader, it rankled.
Mr Naidu liked to say he was the upright one, who was among the first politicians to voluntarily declare his annual income and that of his family. He boasted that he was an apostle of truth and uprightness who stood for development of the state.
Now YSRCP leaders openly say it is payback time. Videos have spawned featuring an old video of Jagan Mohan Reddy saying he took a slap and his time will come.
That time, it seems, is now.
Chandrababu Naidu has been sent to jail by a special court in Vijayawada, which accepted prima facie evidence that he was the prime conspirator in a case of diverting government money to private entities.
There are videos of celebrations by YSRCP leaders and cadre, even though they were reportedly told not to celebrate.
The image of a 73-year-old politician, widely respected by the people, being sent to jail could evoke sympathy. That is a chance the YSRCP would not want to take.
Its leaders, however, say there is no question of sympathy for Mr Naidu.
They point out that when Chandrababu Naidu advanced elections in 2004 following a Maoist attack on his life, hoping to cash in on sympathy, he had lost to the Congress and YS Rajasekhar Reddy.
Telugu Desam leaders and cadre appear stunned and yet to figure out how to fight this onslaught. There were audio leaks of TDP leaders asking its cadre to come out and show their frustration.
But the YSRCP government has managed to stop the protests from turning violent and taking over headlines.
With elections just months away, the YSRCP versus TDP battle will be fought as much, if not more, in the public domain than inside courts -- because public perception matters more in the theatre of politics.
This time, if Mr Naidu and his team are busy playing defence, trying to stay out of jail and trouble, putting up a full-fledged fight for victory in elections could become a challenge.
Politics in Andhra Pradesh is personal, vicious and nasty. It is a battle where punching straight and punching below the belt are practised routinely for political impact.
So while the technicalities are argued in court, it will be a free-for-all outside, with YSRCP calling the TDP names and the TDP accusing the YSRCP of playing dirty.
Both YSRCP and the TDP have their loyal following in Andhra Pradesh and so at political rallies, very often, there are clashes when the two come face-to-face. That is only likely to get worse.
Already, Chandrababu Naidu has spent five years out of power and for a regional party, that makes matters tough. Mr Naidu's Telugu Desam was once a party with deep pockets, with many businessmen-turned-politicians providing it with the fuel to fight elections.
In the last few years, many of those friends in business parted ways with him as criminal cases filed by multiple Central agencies put their primary business interest in danger.
Mr Naidu made a costly mistake in 2018-19, when he split ways with the BJP and took on its leadership, demanding special category status for Andhra Pradesh. Many see it as a trap set for him by Jagan Mohan Reddy, who had played his cards carefully and cleverly.
Mr Naidu has realised that it does not pay to have powerful enemies and tried multiple times to extend a hand of friendship again towards the NDA. But the BJP was apparently not willing to forgive and forget.
For Mr Naidu, walking away from the tag of Remand Prisoner number 7691 at Rajamahendravam Central Jail is going to be tough because while the legal battle is fought, his political opponents will throw it at him at every possible opportunity.
YSRCP leaders are talking about how this is only the beginning. There is much more to come and not for Naidu alone. His son Nara Lokesh will be arrested soon, said state tourism minister Roja. The state CID chief had also hinted at questioning the former IT minister.
Less than two weeks ago, there were reports that Chandrababu Naidu had received notice from the Income Tax department that he had not disclosed Rs 118 crore income that he allegedly got as kickback from top infra firms Shapoorji Pallonji and L&T. The firms were awarded contracts worth thousands of crores in Amaravati when he was Chief Minister.
All that is going to make it tough-pedalling for Chandrababu Naidu. Given his age and a dearth of second rung leaders, it will be an uphill task for the bicycle. A puncture is all it takes.

Yatra 2 is the sequel to the crowd-pleasing political drama Yatra, which chronicled the journey of the former Chief Minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhar Reddy. As the first part garnered a good response from YSR's supporters, the makers have now decided to come up with the second installment ahead of the assembly elections in 2024. The first look poster of this sequel which was unveiled last week evoked a strong response from YSR's ardent supporters.
Now, the motion poster of Yatra 2 is out this Saturday and it reaffirms that the sequel is going to throw a spotlight on the rise of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and the scion of Rajasekhar Reddy.
It is clear that director Mahi V Raghav is determined to give some mileage to Jagan in the forthcoming elections through this sequel by highlighting his decade-long journey in politics. He wants to showcase the ascension of Jagan to the prestigious post of Chief Minister in 2019 after facing a lot of humiliation and legal battles with the State and Central governments.
The motion poster is like an animation video that opens with a huge roar and we get to see to the massive statue of a hand surrounded by scores of political supporters. Then, a person resembling Jagan is seen climbing the steps to reach the top of the hand. Jagan's iconic dialogues from his Pada Yatra are played in the background. Santosh Narayanan rendered a thumping score to elevate the glimpse.
Tamil actor Jiiva is in talks to essay the role of Jagan in this sequel. Madhie will handle the cinematography. It will be produced by V Celluloid and Three Autumn Leaves. The regular shooting will commence very soon.

Y S Sharmila assaults cops, sent to jail for 14 days
However, an enraged Sharmila allegedly obstructed a sub-inspector of Banjara Hills Police Station and hit him with her hands.
HYDERABAD: A city court remanded YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) president YS Sharmila to 14-day judicial custody on Monday. She was arrested earlier in the day for allegedly manhandling police personnel. She is currently lodged in the Special Prison for Women in Chanchalguda.
A case under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from duty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of women), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Sharmila.
However, it is unclear whether the police have registered a case against Vijayamma — mother of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Sharmila. — who also reportedly slapped another woman police constable at the Banjara Hills police station.
Visuals of Sharmila and Vijayamma slapping the police personnel were circulated widely on social media platforms.
The mother-daughter duo, however, claimed that they reacted in ‘self-defence’. In the early hours of Monday, the YSRTP chief tried to venture out of her residence. However, when the police prevented her from doing so, she was visibly agitated over “police restricting her movements on every occasion”.
Hyderabad West Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Joel Davis said, “We have received information that Sharmila will be going to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) office. Our officers reached her residence to brief her that she had no permission to proceed.”
However, an enraged Sharmila allegedly obstructed a sub-inspector of Banjara Hills Police Station and hit him with her hands.
The SI can be heard saying, “Why are you hitting me?” A few moments later, Sharmila allegedly slapped a female constable for “roughly handling” her.
Immediately, the police arrested Sharmila and shifted her to the Banjara Hills Police Station where she was kept for nearly three hours. After her arrest, Vijayamma arrived at the police station to see her daughter.
However, after the police turned down her requests, Vijayamma also allegedly slapped another female police constable who was trying to persuade her to return home.
