#Chesarka watches Fukigen na Mononokean

Morose Mononokean II 1 | Mob Psycho 100 II 1 | Meiji Tokyo Renka 1 | My Roommate is a Cat 1 | Promised Neverland 1
I think I’ve got too many cute fluffy creatures this season...
Mononokean II 1
For some reason, before I started watching this I kept reminding myself of Tomodachi Metre and fearing the new OP (because there’s almost always a new OP when dealing with a second season) would be faster-paced…the song is faster-paced, but not in the way I thought it would be (I thought it was going to be hard rock kind of pace, but it’s at least a tad slower than that).
Utakuni is such a fluffy kitty!
Ah, Moja Moja is best moja, indeed. Gossamers from As Miss Beelzebub Likes just don’t compare, y’know?
The Legislator is practically the king of “You mad, bro?”. (LOL)
Okay-dokay, lemme explain. There are 3 arms of government (known as the separation of powers, in order to have a series of checks and balances) – the Legislative, Executive and the Judiciary, meaning we’re missing that final one at the moment…
I never knew Morose Mononokean was so obsessed with comedy…or maybe I’m just noticing it now that I have experience with comedy I get bored at…
Abeno’s face of disgust really sold that moment with Moja, LOL.
Well, by virtue of being a sequel to something I watched previously, it’s more likely to get coverage, but you can never say for certain until the first episodes are over and done. On to the next thing – Mob Psycho!
Mob Psycho 100 II 1
Alright, all these “II 1”s are going to make me confused someday, aren’t they…?
I think the dude’s Suisho simply means “water crystal”. But I’m only guessing as to what kanji are being used here, so I could be wrong.
The pixel art bit was good. More like that, please!
“Your life is your own” – is that Mob Psycho’s slogan, in the same way Symphogear has that thing about “holding courage to fist” and whatnot?
Unlike Mononokean, which you only need to know the very basics (which are in turn explained in the episode itself), it seems Mob Psycho is playing hardball in that department – if you don’t remember that time Kamuro started kicking his lackeys around, you’re going to have to watch it again. (Either that, or you watch the Reigen recap.)
Hmm…”[something to help Mob] grow” sounds a bit odd, but that’s a correct translation. That’s what seichou suru means.
Oh great…you know how I said I was cleaning out the house lately? Someone found an old copy of this book called Inventing Elliot, which I despised studying about (because it got me some of the lowest grades in my school life, aside from outright failures and close scrapes with failure). The problem is, I’m getting Inventing Elliot vibes from this particular plotline…and since that’s Mean Girls in a boys’ private school + Mob Psycho is all about the abuse of power, that’s completely a storyline the show would go with. *gulp*
Hey, they have actual eyecatches now! Hooray!
A certain kanji for “Emi” (with a mi in hiragana, IIRC) is “smile” in English, so I find it interesting they paired Mob up with a girl like her. (Then again, if it were a hiragana/kanji mix, that’s not a name.)
Oh yeah, the hitode (starfish) shirt.
Rinshi! Ekoda-chan 1
Why am I covering an R18+ series? It’s a long story…
The jokes are, as of this segment with the old lady, only about 50% hits. That seems to be a pretty bad track record. The thing about Ekoda being identified as 3 years older than what she really is is also relatable, since I don’t think I’ve grown much past a certain age.
Note there’s a Japanese store called JUSCO. There was one in Hong Kong, which was full of cool stationery.
Wait…that’s it? So why’s it 26 minutes??? Documentary…okay, I’m getting the heck out of here.
Meiji Tokyo Renka 1
I heard Ume was here…? More bishies and more Ume for me!
What’s up with the Haikara-san ga Tooru outfit, anyway?
Who dis boy? He kinda looks like Mikoshiba from Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun…Update: That’s Ougai.
At least the jazz music is cool. Also, the episode title should be “Suddenly, under a Strawberry Moon…” or something, since it went totsuzen ni.
*Mei checks her phone* - This is why you don’t text and walk across the road, kids!
Ougai…y’mean, Mori Ougai? The loli dude from Bungou Stray Dogs is this redhead?! EHHHHHHHHHHHH?
Oh great. Amnesia plotline…
Hishida Shunso…a painter.
Okay…that’s a really obvious point where you’d be able to insert your own name if you were a gal (or if you wante to play as a gal).
The age of the Rokumeikan seems to pin the timeline down to “after 1883”. For some reason, it sounded familiar, but I wasn’t familiar with why - so maybe I’ll learn about it someday.
“Little Squirrel”?(!) (lowkey laughs for all the wrong reasons) And here I thought “Little Flower” (from Magic-kyun’s Louis and Dame x Pri’s Vino) was awkward-sounding but still endearing.
Okay, second redhead. When I saw him in the OP, I swore he was Ancient Magus’ Bride’s Chise…
So the germophobe redhead is Izumi Kyoka…but I’m not sure who this Kawakami is…
I don’t know how anyone could make a germophobe endearing, much less make him romanceable…
Otojiro Kawakami. Comedian and actor.
Lafcadio…wuh? Update: (Patrick) Lafcadio Hearn, Greek dude with a Japanese penname. He seems to have written stuff on Japan as well as other places.
“…that collection of ghost stories…”
Everyone seems to have forgotten about the roast beef but the animators…LOL…oh, spoke too soon. Kawakami just walked it back to the table.
Wowwwwwwwwwwww, Mei is so easily distracted by roast beef and pretty boys who, to be honest, aren’t that pretty…I’m just waiting for the long-haired dude and/or Ume and I’ll kick my butt out of here.
I thought Fujita was voiced by a familiar voice and turns out I was right – it’s Fukuyama Jun.
Well, that was mildly unsatisfying. I think I spent more time watching Mei getting blushy at dudes and not feeling an attraction myself. Fujita was the only one I wanted and he didn’t even do much but swing a sword. Seriously, though, what the heck was Charlie doing turning off the lights all of a sudden?
My Roommate is a Cat 1
Well, it’s either that title or Dokyounin wa Hiza, Tokidoki Atame no Ue. …which is a lot to write in one shot.
Why’s the cat on Subaru’s…junk?
The cat appears to be typing out the Dancing Men from Sherlock Holmes…except they’re cats. The Dancing Men are basically what made me think I had a career in computer security in the first place, come to think of it…but I’ve abandoned that kind of thinking now. Modulos are way too hard for me.
Them spoilers! I know that feel.
Koguma = small bear, in a story about a small cat. LOL.
Hiroto…I thought about this during the funeral scene, but…why does he look like Suzaku from Code Geass???
Hmm, yeah. I can see why Hiroto isn’t all that convinced – I’m a similar kind of person, with only a small pool of pursuits that keep me going for a long, long time. *looks at rabbit outside and remembers when I saw it in the darkness about 3 years ago*
Oh, so Subaru was so absorbed in his manuscript he forgot to eat, huh?
Kitty show too cute! Ehehehee… <- (ecstatic about having a new weekly dose of cuteness)
Promised Neverland 1
I’ve read the first volume of this. I’m not 100% in love with it, but if I can have bragging rights over finding the next big hit, why not?
Noitamina…now that’s a name I haven’t seen in a few years…*grumbles at Amazon*
For some reason Norman (white-haired boy) has this “betrayer” vibe written all over him. It’s because I know in BnHA and Ao no Exorcist, there are betrayals by certain people.
The aesthetic of this thing is like a fairytale and not like a typical anime. That’s probably one thing that convinced people to give it a shot.
LOL, there’s a Detective Conan door..well, it kind of looks like one.
The word for “tag” in Japanese is onigokko and “It” is an oni. That gives a whole new meaning to “playing tag with monsters”, doesn’t it?
Update: I can sort of feel my “this is popular, so I won’t like it” radar going off...so I’ll put it on hold until I get over that feeling.

My Roommate is a Cat 7 - 8 | Shield Hero 7 - 8 | Egao no Daika 8 - 9 | Morose Mononokean 8 - 9 | Mob Psycho 8 | Spec Ops Asuka 7 - 8
I can’t believe I forgot to check whether I had all the tags on my posts...I was missing Mononokean tags all along...
My Roommate is a Cat 7
Hiroto is such a meddler…
Hmm…this reminds me of a quote I have on a bookmark. “Picking 5 favourite books is like picking the 5 body parts you’d most like not to lose.” – Neil Gaiman
Tenshindon. I think the subs previously had it as “tenshidon”, so with tenshi meaning “angel” I was wondering what sort of rice warranted the name “angel rice”…
They say that pets are like their owners, but Haru really is a cat that’s like Subaru if I ever saw one! Hahaha!
Shield Hero 7
This stuff about the Spear Hero…we’ve heard about it before…hmm…(pieces all fall together)
This is sliding into demi-human harem territory…hmm…(disapproving)
Spec Ops Asuka 7
The sign on the maid café door says something along the lines of “Closed for Today”, not “Closed for Party”!
Wakkanai.
I like Tamara already. She says good quotes and has a cool catchphrase!
Mononokean 8
Fuzzy eating cotton candy is too cute~!
Ashiya’s black thug jacket says something like “no equal in heaven nor earth” (first 4 kanji), while Abeno’s says “good at fighting” (last 4 kanji)…but part of Abeno’s is covered by his hand and likewise Ashiya’s is covered by the frame, so I can’t tell you what the entire jackets say.
Fuzzy at the top of the slide is also cute. Just give me any shot of Fuzzy that isn’t CGI and I’ll be sold!
Why do watermelons in anime have black seeds only??? Plus, why does this one have so many of them???
Mob Psycho II 8
Dosei means Saturn (the planet). No wonder the shirt image’s planet has rings.
I-Is this the first time CR has added lyrics to the theme song???
The calligraphy on the wall behind Mob says “starry sky”.
Just jog instead of sitting. That’ll get you all fit!
Relationship advice, eh? I was bang on with my OWLS post, yay!
“He’s got the stamina of a snail.” – For some reason, I find that statement relatable…is that a good thing???
Is it just me, or are Mob’s shoes on the wrong feet?
As much as I never really grokked the first season, hence its rating on my anime list being in the 80s (as of right now, it’s an 86 but it used to be 85), my heart really sunk when Sho pulled the “burn your parents and brother in a fire” card. There’s a reason this is topping my charts this season, y’know. (Interestingly, if fangirlling is indicative of grokking the show, I grokked Magic-kyun Renaissance, currently sitting at a 76. It lost due to the simplicity of its plot…and the fact I may have overreacted to Ume voicing a character I could get behind.)
Ooh, it seems the narrator of this next-ep preview is dissing people who illegally downloaded the episode! Now that’s nasty!
Egao no Daika 8
…hmm, why do I get the feeling the Empire will intercept the data Izana is sending? (But on an unrelated note, I really like Izana’s hair…LOL, that’s just me being shallow.)
Hmm? Izana is French??? That’s the biggest surprise in the entire show, right up there with Joshua dying.
My Roommate is a Cat 8
How did Hiroto deal with unsocial Subaru, come to think of it…?
As someone who did want to be an author at one point, I went at my dream a completely different way – I went to the library a tonne, I wrote a tonne and I illustrated my own books whenever possible (but only ever made one copy of each book, because illustrating is hard). I never really owned that many books until I started up a collection of my own (because I was always sharing with other people).
Also, if Subaru did a degree…what degree did Subaru do??? I wanna know!
Also…I really like that shirt Subaru’s wearing in the flashback, The one with the black collar, sleeves and button section.
Did Subaru forget to eat again? *sigh* Subaru, what are we ever going to do with you??? (LOL)
Oh? Post-credits segment…keep watching!
LOL, that was a great post-credits segment!
Spec-Ops Asuka 8
Oh…goody. It’s thug!Kyubey (Giess). (sounds kind of sad)
Magical yandere, much????
Careful with Mia, you molester (Francine)!
For some reason, “Texas Girl” and “Russian” as nicknames makes me crack up.
Sata andagi. I think I first heard of these in Mahou Shoujo Ore.
Chisato seems to be the parallel to Kurumi.
Shield Hero 8
“I’m not warm, you know.” – Oh ho ho! Naofumi really knows how to tease a girl, eh?
Morose Mononokean 9
I find it interesting Ashiya’s mother’s name has a tree radical in it.
Strangely, CR didn’t sub a line but lip reading says it’s “Sumimasen” or “Shitsureishimasu”.
Poor Fuzzy…getting energy zapped from that youkai must be harsh…
Is Sakae Ashiya’s dad???
Mononokean does Mob Psycho’s shtick…but because I don’t find it touching or hilarious, it’s worse than the other show.
Who dis woman??? Update: That’s Ashiya’s sister.
Headbutt her! Headbutt he-awwwwwwww…why the facepalm? (disappointed)
Has Abeno always had spots on the left side of his face???
Sorry for interrupting with my opinions on gender, but why does Hanae have to be blue and his sister pink???
Egao no Daika 9
For some reason, I don’t feel like Izana died last episode. Unlike Joshua, who I could get over pretty easily because he was a Shonen Hero (TM), Izana we got to know more...to the point where it almost felt like this opening was a fakeout of sorts.
This is so obviously discussing nuclear power, y’know??? The fact they come from Verde (Green, the cliched colour of nuclear power and the colour of the environment) makes it even more obvous.
I read somewhere that Stella could be the child of Layla…hmm…
Oh dear…this death…Harold’s death…was quite the sucker punch to the feels, huh?

Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga 5 | SGRS: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen 5 | Nanbaka 18 | ACCA 4 | Classicaloid 17 | Morose Mononokean 1 - 2
The idea from now on: Once all 2016 shows are done (rewatches or not), expect the 2016 ranking.
Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga 5
You could see Shura’s pink phone in her back pocket. Hopefully, she doesn’t bum dial anyone…
One of the problems of this (part of the) show is its heavy reliance on flashbacks, since the original series was in 2011 (or 12?).
That’s what happens when you have an impulsive guy like Rin, I guess. Custody. (Partially joking.) Sometimes a pep talk is all you need to get back up though.
I can make out some of the hiragana and (maybe?) a minami (south), but otherwise I’m pretty lost on that cursive script too.
With a proper look at the right side of the letter, I can indeed make out “Okumura Rin”.
I just realised – Torako (tiger child) and Tatsuma (judging by the “tatsu”, it likely has something to do with dragons). It’s tiger vs dragon!
How is this letter even relevant to the current day, aside from the tale of Ryuji?
You subbers make me sic! (LOL.) The word is “disastrous” – remember that.
Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen 5
Whoa. Sukeroku’s eyes were red!
I thought it was Yakumo’s ashtray Yota was talking about. Turns out it’s his bento.
Ah, the magic of technology. Yota knows it.
The Amakentei from season 1, episode 1. It’s still here after all these years.
There’s a creepy picture of a man in the back. Probably a photo.
Noxy stereo, LOL.
Note for later: Kajikazawa was the name of the story Yakumo did when he got enraged by Yota.
I thought Yakumo would be furious about the carp. Turns out he’s not. The Yakumo name bit made me laugh because that’s such a Yota thing to do.
“Atashi”? Did I hear Yota say “atashi”?
Hangon-ko is so spellbinding…
Hikobayuru is beautiful as always.
I-I’m crying right now. The preview basically is implying Yakumo’s…dead.
Nanbaka 18
Was that hit really that hard?
I think they skipped a line of the subs?
Oh, “the tall guy” is Qi.
What’s the name of this black/blue haired guy in the first place?
…but the staff was broken before…?
Ruka is apparently a kappa according to earlier comments, so him in the water makes sense somewhat.
Wow. Futamata-sensei really likes Chinese stuff.
Strangely, Uno has a point.
The Gojyousan underground cell. Of course it had to be called after Ruka. Plus the goroawase would definitely mean it has 5 levels.
How did Uno identify Trois and Honey by one middle finger? The nail polish and style of the nails, I guess.
*cue dramatic music* It’s a cliffhanger! (Dangit.)
ACCA 4
Walnut…cookies? Can’t tell what that “walnut” really is since it only appears for a second.
Seriously, who is Nino calling?
I think a captain’s hat like the one that guy was wearing makes people look silly.
There’s a lot of English in this theme song. Except for the autotune, the song suits this show perfectly.
I only just realised Jean has some buttons shaped like the letter H.
Man, having the freedom to decide your own schedule is nice.
Pentagonal table, eh? Not even “Knights of the Round Cross” exist here?
Jazz sounds and xylophones really suit this show.
Satsuei? I forgot what that means. Update: It means “to take a picture of someone”, although it appears to be a noun.
There’s even ACCA desktop wallpapers. I want one.
Interesting to note Beurre uses the word kuni (country) for Suitsu, which was subbed as “place” (“It’s a wonderful place!”). This just shows exactly how much autonomy there is for ACCA’s districts.
I don’t think I questioned it yet, but why is this guy called Biscuit? By the audio, it sounds like he’s called “Bisuke” and not “Bisuketto”.
Keitai denwa = mobile phone.
It’s like the French Revolution. Not that I’ve studied anything on that revolution, but eh. Coldplay’s Liberty Leading the People and all that.
Gag rule. I didn’t know what it meant specifically, but it kind of explained itself.
Jean has such a baby face and gangly neck that it’s easy to think he’s an example of what TV Tropes call “Noodle People”.
Classicaloid 17
I think the word Motz uses is oishii, but I’ve never seen it translated as “delish!” before.
It’s grilled mikan, technically. Didn’t I say that last time?
I got no Google hits on “yaki mikan” or “grilled mikan” that were relevant.
Welp, this seems to be set in Japanese winter. Or else you wouldn’t be seeing mikan (or colds) at all.
Did Cho-chan just do an extensive burn on Sousuke? That’s gotta hurt!
The hallways in blue light at that angle…it’s kinda creepy, due to what the staff put in the next ep preview…I’m actually so scared, I have a lump in my throat…
How did you communicate with Hasshie, Cho-chan? *laughs anyway*
The fact the subs go (verb verber verbing verb!) is hilarious.
It’s a flippin’ zombie apocalypse! I tried to do one of those (not as crazy as this) in one of my stories and needless to say, I utterly failed! *weeps* *stops weeping* Well, back to work.
What would Cho-chan say if he got infected?
Aloe vera? (Why and how did I know that pot contained aloe vera?)
What? Okay, that’s (Schu and Beethes having citrus heads) just plain weird.
O-Okay. So they basically made “Thriller” to the tune of a march…?! *bursts out laughing* That’s the most ridiculous they’ve gotten so far. I don’t love it because it made me sick to the stomach, but honestly, that’s the most original idea I’ve seen in ages!
The prospect of a pineapple zombie invasion though…urgh. I do not want.
I see no Google hints whatsoever about mikan being grown in Turkey.
Wasn’t it Einstein who said “success is 1% talent and 99% perspiration” or something like that?
(Morose Mononokean ep 1)
Why did I pick this show, you ask? It’s pretty obvious, right? It’s appealing to the eyes.
There’s something extremely iyashikei about this show, even if it’s also a supernatural show.
Why is no one wearing yellow except Ashiya?
…and the ol’ “problem with buttshots” comes right back from Bungou Stray Dogs. What is it with people and butts?
“I can’t stand it!” – Considering you’re not able to stand, it’s pretty obvious, Ashiya.
Why a giant fuzzball acts like a dog? Beats me.
My allegiance for the lil’ fuzzball started from episode 1, as you can probably tell. One episode is all I need sometimes.
“…to collect your debt.”
Hanae is a feminine name, normally.
His face when he saw that it was Abeno was…hilarious!
Is that youkai a (subtle) 4th wall breaker?
The ED is so pretty. It evolves too, which must be a pain in the butt for the animators but it’s pleasing to the eyes.
(ep 2)
“I can totally see them now.” – Okay, not many boys speak like that. Girls, maybe, but boys? No. (That is, if we’re talking about the phase where suddenly speech is littered with at least 20% more “like”s than usual.)
Of course, nobody questions the spraying of spontaneous flowers in the OP.
ESP doesn’t do that.
Being possessed by mutant pine cones really does take its toll on Ashiya.
Cyclops pine cones? Probably creepy if they’re all staring at once.
Turtle emblem, even though the maker is a newt.
Mutant pine cones never looked so adorable, especially when picked up by the “scruff of the neck”. Abeno basically tossed the little guy he held.
Doesn’t make much difference regardless of if you call the parasite shrub “incurable disease” or “curse”.
Notice how formal both Abeno and the big Scree are.
It’s not quite explained how the Screes learnt the guys’ names.

Morose Mononokean 3 – 13 (FINAL) | Nanbaka 19 | ACCA 5...and anime from 2016, ranked.
(Morose Mononokean ep 3)
LOL, the kaomoji scroll.
Hopefully your handwriting won’t be illegible, Fusshi.
The Japanese place a lot of emphasis on independence, hence th errand running comment.
It’s so threatening to get pointed at with a stick.
I didn’t quite get the “five years again?” joke, but the jokes were going pretty rapid fire there. I might’ve just missed one and that’s OK. *shrugs*
Technically Ashiya lied when he said “you don’t have to believe me” because she believed him in the end…kinda sorta…?
Oh, to grandstand means to be showy. I don’t think I solidified that into my brain until just then.
Are those weeds or onions?
…Oops, not onions at all. Close enough (since they’re blub plants), though.
Where’s your dad, Ashiya?
Zenko’s not crying, you’re crying, I’m crying. Everyone’s crying!
…Oh, that’s the punchline of the joke…but Abeno’s scary when he’s really angry.
(ep 4)
I think even lil’ Fuzzy nods in the OP near the end.
The d and b thumbs are very inventive in regards to kaomoji. I like inventiveness.
Exhibit A of how Comic Sans ruins a mood, CR subbers.
So that’s Abeno’s writing (and not Comic Sans)?
Ashiya and Abeno have really creepy eyes on the eyecatch.
Shizuku means “water droplet” IIRC.
Ashiya, Super Sentai!...or something like that.
The Fuzzy Ashiya knows has 3 tails. This one only has one.
Ashiya, getting coerced into deals he can’t handle. *sigh*
(ep 5)
Fuzzy’s basically a Pokémon now.
What happened to Abeno’s jar?
Where I am, there’s three arms to the government: the legislative arm, the judicial arm and the executive arm. This show must run off a lot of the same principles.
Fuzzy seems vaguely unimpressed when Ashiya learns he doesn’t have to die.
How is that communicating with a fuzzball? Sad life for Abeno-san.
The sad thing about Abeno is that he’s very grumpy. While that does make him basically a male tsundere, his grumpiness isn’t something everyone can live with. Rippou (Legislator) included.
(ep 6)
The Ring? Like a horror movie? (This is the last of the Mononokean episodes I’ve seen before, so it’s not a horror movie, but I had to make the joke while I was at it.)
Fuzzy looks like an offering to the ancestors there on that cushion.
The Mononokean went “If you’d followed my instructions [yada yada yada] but…” Note the “but” – that wasn’t in the translation.
Where does Abeno sleep?
Fuzzy wrapped up is like a fuzzy sushi roll. I wouldn’t like to eat a fuzzy sushi roll, though.
Edo = old Tokyo…so are all Edoites (or whatever you call them) meant to be non-honorific users?
Manjiro must’ve been easy to draw if this were in the source material. However, since this is obviously a CGI Manjiro, it must’ve been easier to animate than, say, Fuzzy. (Apparently fur is hard to get right in CGI.)
“15 whole minutes”…hardly anything impressive…LOL.
Ashiya will never give you up, he’ll never let you down, he’ll never run around and desert you…
Even Fuzzy’s sweating up a storm just thinking about how to return the ring.
Ow. Getting headbutted by an eel is not the way to go.
The salve on Fuzzy looked like a box for a frame or two.
The irony of an eel shop with an eel youkai…
(ep 7)
It’s fresh impressions from here on out.
Butterflies don’t fly like that…
Since middle school is years 7 – 9…okay…Ashiya is that childish? *laughs awkwardly*
I just realised this show doesn’t do flashbacks very well.
I saw a grave in the back that said “Abe Family Grave”. It’s not the kanji for Abeno, though.
Don’t be so proud of your status as a hide and seek veteran, Ashiya.
“Yoko” is the word for a fox spirit. it’s why, in Tactics, the fox spirit is called Youko. Even I knew that much and Ashiya didn’t, LOL.
Oh right! Abeno calls Fuzzy “hairball”.
Abeno is 15?! I’m absolutely positively flipping out!...Abeno and Ashiya look like they’re 17!
(ep 8)
I thought something was up with the subs. Turns out “Haruitsuki” was spelt wrong.
Remember “–sama” is of more respect than “–san”.
I think Mr Chips from Eldlive was like this critter. Gets drunk on green tea.
Tsundere flying green youkai. That’s probably better than an annoying, possibly tsundere fairy (<- reference to One Wish They Never Wanted).
Benkei? I’ve never heard anyone yell “Benkei!” when they stubbed their toe. I get that it’s Standing Benkei though.
Aww. Even if it’s a youkai proposal, it’s so sweet…
(ep 9)
How do you spell “dispirited”? Two Ss? One?
Dangit, Ashiya would do well in job interviews…
The eyecatches always look unnecessarily dramatic, don’t they?
Does Abeno’s question about amateurs include Ashiya?
Abeno must’ve gotten a “Don’t come near my daughter again!” sort of thing a lot.
Fuzzy’s body went “boomph!” when he jumped on to Ashiya’s shoulder.
Fuzzy absolutely fails at rolling on balls, LOL.
(ep 10)
Why did I think of “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” when it came to large!Yahiko?
The title of this episode is “deku”, like Boku no Hero Academia Deku.
Rakugan.
How did the eyecatch manage to put shojo sparkles on Nobou and turn him into something that’s vaguely appealing (in a handsome sense)? It must be the magic of the shojo sparkles…Also, henohenomoheji scarecrow.
“Phantasmagoria” aka “fantasy” or “illusion”.
Wow, basically this show is an ethics lesson…
Who knew a mutant scarecrow could cause such a heartfelt story? Also, please stop hitting yourself with a potato.
(ep 11)
I don’t think I’ve seen the character for “purple” being read as shi before.
Stop using Fuzzy as a shield for your words, Ashiya.
Fuzzy jumped on to Zenko’s head. It’s kinda funny to see Fuzzy acting like a Swablu.
Fuzzy with a leaf hat is aesthetically pleasing. It soothes the soul. (Uh, hey. Come to think of it, Mononokean’s a lot like the works I’ve done on Honeyfeed, eh? Light comedy and a lotta drama.)
I keep stumbling upon spoilers for shows I’m not caught up on, this show included. So I technically knew about Yahiko and never mentioned it, and I’m going “oh no” here because I know what will happen to Ashiya…
Tomori. That was the name from the spoilers…oh no!!!
Fuzzy looks particularly round in the eyecatch.
Apparently Ashiya began as a doodle in the margin of Kiri Wazawa’s sketchbook, but he became the protag of Morose Mononokean. That’s the ultimate upgrade in life for a character, eh?
Abeno’s logic…I get it, but I guess it was played for hilarity. Well, it worked. Really well.
A 9-11. I thought it was funny at first, but now it’s scary and solemn.
Simultaneous equations? I want nothing to do with them anymore.
Come to think of it, Aoi may have been a woman due to the woman’s cloak.
(ep 12)
Oh? A sister? I’ve haven’t seen her in the show yet. I wanna see her.
One of the lil’ pine cones is sleeping. It’s strangely adorable.
(ep 13)
Yahiko’s so spoilt by Zenko.
*squints at Ashiya’s book* Oh hey. I haven’t done this in years! Yeah, that sort of stuff is “first year of high school” stuff, but speaking from experience as an advanced maths student, I have a skewed perspective of what “normal maths” is for a year level. Add that to the fact Japan has the idea that they have to push their geniuses to the limit by being ahead of their years (sometimes going up to one year ahead of the “usual” standard) and…yeah.
From the lip reading, the word could’ve been tera (Buddhist temple) or jinja (Shinto shrine). Knowing how Zenko is built off the ideas of Buddhism anyway, it’s tera.
Well, out of sight, out of mind, as they say.
Abeno looks like such a bad boy in that eyecatch, it’s hilarious.
Seriously, how does Nobou talk with no mouth?!
I thought the hand was Yahiko. Turns out it was Abeno.
Fuzzy looks downright ill when Ashiya’s scared.
A boss normally doesn’t bow his head to his subordinates, let alone call them “lord” (dono), which is the highest type of honorific one can give to a person.
See, the kaomoji scroll really is fun. If someone could make one for me, I’d love to play with it for a little bit. Maybe you could make a (computer?) program that could function mostly the same way…huh. That’s a good idea, actually.
Notice the Mononokean uses “watashi”. I guess it doesn’t have much of a gender anyway.
Nice hat, Ashiya. (LOL.)
Welp, that’s the final episode of all my 2016 anime. I moved the top 10 anime of 2016 to the bottom of this post for the surprise factor, but knowing my reactions to the anime means you can’t be too surprised by the results.
(Nanbaka 19)
Honey’s still on arrow mode.
The scream. It’s like a horror movie, but so funny because it overlays the OP.
The sparkles actually helped viewers see something for once.
Rokuriki. So that’s the guard’s name. It has “six” in it.
Deer hook swords. I’m not quite familiar with them but they look cool.
I only just realised, but they left Nico behind in the supervisor’s office.
The rubble is so beautifully rendered.
What was Jyugo doing behind the pots? Something for humour, I suppose, because I laughed.
“Hachiman” can mean 80000.
Kawaisouni… translates to “unfortunate” or “how unfortunate” but I probably wouldn’t peg it as “poor baby!” like the subbers did. It’s probably the tone Uno used that caused them to sub it the way they did.
Here we go again with this Jyugo comeback from episode 1…
It’s around the part where Upa’s trash talking Hachiman that you can identify Upa’s VA is Yuu Kobayashi (SGRS’s Konatsu’s VA). Even Nico is voiced by a dude and yet Upa is not.
(ACCA 5)
Seriously, this blue haired guy (Magie) reminds me of Japan from Hetalia. Must be the haircut.
How does a guy not remember toast? Probably because this is of Japanese origin, where rice and fish are more common than bread.
I still think his name should be Gene Otus.
CGI fits flawlessly into this style, and if you’ve been around these parts long enough, you know I don’t like obvious CGI.
Dowa Travel.
Hotel Akevitt. They have some weird names in this show.
Reindeer…? I’m not very good at identifying deer vs reindeer.
I heard you like wheat bread, so I put some wheat bread in ACCA to keep you happy, Jean. (insert more memes about wheat bread here)
Lotta really likes walnuts, eh?
Crow/Nino’s a free agent hired by Grossular, right?
Ah. I get it. Lotta’ll keep an eye on Nino for Jean.
Isn’t a sandpiper a bird?
Oh. So that’s why Grossular has such long hair.
Lilium’s bro? Gotta remember him for later.
Grossular’s an older Kyosuke Kuga, LOL.
 Anime of 2016, Ranked
Since I have 17 entries this year and it took a lot of shuffling to get right, I’ve decided to show my entire 2016 rankings. Only shows I saw in their entirety at least once over in 2016 (with the exceptions of D Gray Man Hallow and Morose Mononokean, which are applicable through the simulcast commentary process but were only watched to episode 6 before 2016′s end, and fall anime, which due to being AFK at 2016′s end were unfinshable until 2017), and had at least one new seasonal entry in 2016, apply:
17. Prince of Stride Alternative
16. Mr Osomatsu s2
15. D Gray Man Hallow
14. Kiznaiver
13. Morose Mononokean
12. Nanbaka s1: can’t talk about this yet because its s2’s not finished!
11. Classicaloid s1: can’t talk about this yet because it′s not finished!
10. Flip Flappers: The art style and fight scenes really make this a show worth watching. However, it did get somewhat confusing at the end so that’s where most of the drop in the rankings comes from.
9. ReLIFE: While the themes were pertinent and the art style on point, it was a bit plain and there wasn’t much of an explanation as to why the pills work (even if that isn’t Yoake or An’s role). I guess I’m still used to it living in the shadow of Detective Conan, after all.
8. Boueibu s2: This was a step up from s1, but unfortunately there were prime contenders this year that knocked it out of higher places. Also the fact that it does seem more rushed than s1 due to the time constraints does give it a bit of a toll.
7. Bungou Stray Dogs (overall): 2 seasons makes this show stand out as a strong one, especially near the end when it really hits its stride. The fact light novel stories took up up to 4 episodes did make me worried, but the fans definitely have more than enough material to work with as a result, right?
6. Yuri on Ice: I don’t mind the off model in this one if it means the good stuff can come with it, but the fandom is quite intimidating and it was a “show of the year” in ways some people now consider to be a negative thing, so it did suffer a bit from that. I give it merit for the things it does well, but it’s not the saviour of anime the talk of the town can make it out to be.
5. Boku Dake ga Inai Machi: Stunning visuals, a Sayuri ED and good thrills with well executed cliffhangers. My only gripe with this one was the very end, but you’ll have to see the relevant posts for why that is.
4. Boku no Hero Academia s1: Even if it is repetitive, it rises above (Plus Ultra!) to become something more than just a fusion of East and West like I always try to strive for. It’s an emblem and it’s definitely something Horikoshi should be proud of after what happened to Barrage and Oumagadoki Zoo.
3. Sakamoto Desu Ga: This show also managed to go above its repetitive trappings with inventiveness and humour. The fact it’s also touching at exactly the right points shows you why Takamatsu is one of my favourite directors.
2. ConRevo s2: Colourful and politically striking as always, ConRevo was one of the shows I always looked forward to watching, even if it meant staying up past midnight to document things on the wiki. Even if I’m not that fond of the Urobuchi episode, this show managed to reach awesome highs without losing the fans it got from s1.
1. SGRS: With a soundtrack that brings you to the past, humour that can make you laugh no matter how many times you watch it and visuals to wow even the most serious of artists, you can tell SGRS is a labour of love in every aspect. Its second season has already surpassed its predecessor in only 4 or 5 episodes, so...only time will tell whether anything can challenge SGRS for the throne.
 Total:
winter 4
spring 5 (incl. Bungou Stray Dogs s1)
summer 4
fall 5 (incl. Bungou Stray Dogs s2)

Morose Mononokean II 4 - 7 | Mob Psycho 100 II 4 - 7 | My Roommate is a Cat 4 - 6 | Double Decker! EX 1 | Egao no Daika 5 - 7 | Shield Hero 4 - 6 | Magical Girl Spec Ops Asuka 4 - 6 | Royal Tutor movie
Morose Mononokean II 4
Aw, another little fuzzball to steal away my heart? I’m being spoiled, aren’t I?
For some reason, this episode was meant to be really emotional, but I felt pretty restless while watching it. Probably because I was thinking about playing Merc Storia all that time.
Mob Psycho 100 II 4
Didn’t expect Shinra to be back after his previous appearance…
Notably, you’d expect Matsuo’s name to have the kanji for “pine tree” in it, but it doesn’t - it has the kanji for “demon” and then one more.
I loved it when FLCL and SGRS went into manga mode, but for some reason, the transition into manga mode didn’t land as well here…hmm.
“I’ll go inside her…With an out-of-body experience.” - That sounds majorly wronggggggggggg, Mob, y’know? Even with context.
I find it interesting Mob perceives himself to be naked…as in, unguarded. He’s fine as he is and doesn’t need to change…in some ways, anyway. He could probably do with a few more emotions, but you get what I mean.
Wha-wha-wha-whoaaaaaaaaa. You mean, Mogami just got rid of Mob’s powers??? That is a nasty cliffhanger!
My Roommate is a Cat 4
Just seeing Hiroto near Kawase’s armpit…so unfazed…it’s kinda funny, but only mildly.
Tuxedo cat…ergh. The differences between American and British English never ceases to trip me up…I mean, the term makes sense…it’s just the differences between the types of English I’m annoyed at.
If you observe the OP, you’ll see Haru has that collar…I’m not sure if that’s meant to be a spoiler then…
Haru basically has the mindset of Kaguya and Shirogane, which makes this hilarious (and yet it’s still justified due to being a believable mindset for a stray!).
S-Smug dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get out of the way of Haru-chan!
Shield Hero 4
“Draw your swords!” – Wasn’t there a rule saying Naofumi can’t use a sword anyway? Plus, Motoyasu has a spear, not a sword…
Balloon? Now, that’s funny!
Using magic to intervene is the cowardly action, methinks, Myne.
I find it interesting Naofumi sees Raphtalia as a little girl – it’s a perception of vulnerability, potentially weakness – when things are shown through his perspective.
Falling Through Starlight is beautiful, y’know that? Be-a-uuuuuuuuuuu-t-i-ful!
Magical Girl Spec Ops Asuka 4
Interestingly, Francine kinda looks like Mami (Madoka Magica).
Wait, is this woman Miura? (Sorry, I’m just wondering why Abigail – the blonde evil magical girl – would choose to use yakiniku to threaten people…)
Oh dear…it’s that train question (save one or save many).
Neding authority before you can actually do anything legal…now that sounds like Double Decker.
“Chef”? I was mortified when it came to the rusalka scene…but I think we already know why Povar is a chef…
CQC? Close quarters combat? Ooh, I’ve never heard it abbreviated before.
Well, I like how Povar and Rusalka Man (can’t spell Russian to save my life) always keep their salaries in mind. Makes them easier to see as evil.
Egao no Daika 5
Oh, this series has two moons? Kind of like Double Decker’s two suns, yeah?
I just realised Lily’s the only one with a skirt on her suit…
Morose Mononokean II 5
I don’t think I’ve seen a Fuzzy-centric episode ever since the first time we met the furball…
That hand on neck thing is apparently a CIA technique if I interpreted it right…just, it’s applied to a purple/white lion, so it’s hard to tell whether it’s the real thing…
Fluffy tadpole is best tadpole. All fluffy things are cute to me, even the lethal ones…I guess.
Seriously, if someone doesn’t call the animation of the Executive sakuga, I don’t know sakuga! That crow is some fancy animation!
Hanae’s mother is scarier than most youkai, given she can give me a nasty jump scare!
Mob Psycho II 5
This episode’s called Discord…which maks me think of the chat program of the same name…weird, huh?
Notably, it’s Dimple’s voice coming from Mob’s mouth…hmm.
That episode was real cool…it’s too bad by turning off the volume at the wrong time, I missed the Sajou no Hana song…
My Roommate is a Cat 5
Roku, Nana, Hachi…haha.
I noticed Haru has smaller eyes than Hachi…aside from the collar of course.
Aw…reunion too cute. I honestly think that this show has a fairly effective use of “filling in the gaps”, as it were, and thus making good use of cuts.
Double Decker! EX 1
Yep, we’re back with Double Decker!!! I’m glad to see it back, really.
Wait…ohhhhhhhhh. So Double Decker! doesn’t just refer to the bus in this show or the system. It means “2 Detectives” in Japanese (in a codeswitching sort of way). It was wordplay all along! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh! I get it now!
This Deana assassin stuff must be a lie…
(after the commercial break) C’mon, Kirill, buddy. You’re drunk, y’know that, right…? Right??? Update: Oh, not drunk, dreaming. My mistake.
Oh, I was just saying that My Roommate is a Cat dos a nice job “filling in gaps”. Didn’t realise Double Decker did it as well. Also, how the heck is Doug unpopular with women???
So…Kirill actually got hired based on his feminine looks? Geesh, that Travis…
The thing I missed about this show was not being able to play the ED after an episode, so I’m glad to have it back!
Spec Ops Asuka 5
Having Kurumi fix up Nozomi’s arm kind of erases the consequences…but that’s what Kurumi’s for, right?
Barber Scissors…? Is this what happens when you take Kill la Kill way too seriously?
Wowee. Din’t think Sacchuu was capable of dealing nasty punches as well.
There’s gotta be some sort of parallel between Abigail and the queen vs Asuka and Kurumi…
Post-credits segment. Keep watching.
Shield Hero 5
Headbutt to the nuts! Oof!
When it comes to races, the one tune that comes to mind is one from the Dog Island (track 22 from this YouTube playlist).
I swear there was CGI during the race…on Filo.
Please don’t make jokes about Naofumi liking lolis, people. This is not that type of show…
Mononokean 6
Is it just me, or has this epiode been relying on the use of blue speech bubbles for humour more than normal?
It’s Mononokean: Sports Anime edition!
For some reason, I find the name “trashboat” hilarious. It was probably just “ponkotsu” (piece of trash) in practice, but the variation in English is really something to behold…
Ashiya sleeps like an old man, LOL. It must be cosy in that bed…
Moja is just adorable in whatever scene it appears in! Even Moja being dragged down a stream is cute~!
Relaxing your shoulders, huh? That reminds me that that’s a destress technique I haven’t used in a while. My head’s been spinning while I was trying to watch this episode, so I should probably get back to trying to do that stuff…after this episode, of course.
Price of Smiles 6
You think Spec Ops Asuka looks bad? Look at Price of Smiles melt in this “Yuni! You should recover!” scene.
For some reason, this one dude (I forget his name) being a father surprises me. He looks like the type to be single…
The female version of the name “Noel” is Noelle…get that right, people!
Layla’s right when she says one of the main causes of war is the struggle for resources and wealth.
Mob Psycho II 6
I noticed instead of a Mac or something, the computer is a “One” computer.
The board says something a lot more complicated than Saitama’s routine…which means One likes exercise. Maybe…probably.
“Codomo” phone, LOL.
The last time I heard of tofu in anime that I remember…was Boueibu. Something about Ryuu killing a man with tofu.
Somehow it didn’t occur to me until the eyecatch was over but the block…was tofu!
How do you even get drunk when there’s no alcohol in the drink??? (LOL)
Oh! Shinra again!
…Also Jodo Kirin!
Shield Hero 6
Naofumi is giving 0 f**ks about the dressmaker’s love of Filo.
Why is Filo CGI…? It looks unnerving, to be honest with you.
My Roommate is a Cat 6
Eleventh grade…16? 17? Heck, Yugo looks 27, not 17!
Notably, “Comic Polaris” is the name of the magazine that publishes the manga of this. Hence “Novels Polaris”.
Heck, Subaru. In the internet age in particular, people write to affect others. I should know, as someone who did just that just a few years ago!
Oushitsu Kyoushi Heine movie
Yay, we’re back! Crunchyroll bringing over movies is definitely increasing my workload for these commentaries, so with all the new things I’ve added to my lists of priorities as of late, I wonder if I can keep up…
Hitting us with CGI in the first minute of the movie…oh man, how far does CGI go these days???
Honestly, in my brain Wagner (Classicaloid) = the twins (this movie) = the Beppus (Boueibu LOVE! LOVE!). They’re very similar in terms of personality…
In the same way, Bruno = Schubert from Classicaloid (but swap one’s Sensei for the other’s Senpai).
Licht = Motz.
It seems like someone liked ponytail!Licht enough to keep him here. So it really wasn’t just me, huh?
Seriously, what’s this “God of War” stuff anyway???
Man, vocal exercises? This takes me back to my piano-playing days…I was a sightreader and only had to do one of the two (out of sightreading and vocal stuff), but there was someone else who had to do both.
This piano is bugging me. Its white keys are black and its black keys are white!
Somehow, Heine’s small top hat suits him. It’s probably because he wears a small beret in that same position usually.
More CGI background characters…*sigh*
Hmm…soft power at its finest(?)
Seriously though, why did that evil Duke guy appear in this movie again??? He has zero use plotwise. Sure, he was important in the first season and if we ever get a second he’ll be important there, but here? Nada!
Have you noticed Heine is in all those dance positions a girl would normally be in??? Hmm! Interesting! But still…if there’s one thing I ever missed from the anime’s experience, it would be-oh, scratch that! This is my cue to watch the cheesy live-action dance ending! I missed it so much!
Egao no Daika 7
Seriously…who is Eins talking to??? Whose emperor???
They still haven’t revealed what this new guy’s name is, even after his introduction…well, technically he was introduced at the River Deese, but we still didn’t learn his name then. (Did we?)
Spec Ops Asuka 6
Is Mia just this show’s version of Kyouko (from Madoka Magica, but American of course)???
Oooooookay, that (with the kissing and stuff) is so not what foreigners are like, people…
Oh, goodness. Have I really been living with this stuff (girl x girl teasing, with Kurumi in particular being one of the more extreme examples I’ve seen) in my magical girl anime for years now? I mean, Suite PreCure is laced with the stuff…
If ordinary rigor mortis business is at work, then I’d say the heater is to speed up the rotting of the corpse…
LOL, there’s Halloween-class…and then there’s Voorhees-class…how appropriate for Disas.
“Only one of the Magical Five would’ve known about that phrase.” – My bets are on Peipei, but we’ll find out for sure…someday.
Mononokean 7
As much as I found the pillow fight scene with Fuzzy in it funny, I swear Abeno is a bit too sadistic for my own good. What is it with some women and their sadistic kinks…?
Abeno calling Ashiya “hunk of junk” makes me think Ashiya isn’t much of a Sousuke (from Classicaloid), but they do have a lot of similar character traits, now that I think of it…hmm.
For some reason, I think Abeno knew the conditions of the deal and what the deal entailed in advance, hence the training camp.
Seiza…means sitting on the floor in the position Ashiya was in (knees to the floor etc).
Mob Psycho II 7
“Cheeseburger Tornado”, LOL.
When Reigen got angry at the TV, I was just like, “It’s Shield Hero (Mob Psycho version)!” I.e. you con the conman and not turn the conned into a conman…or something like that.
Those microphones are so obviously CGI, people…
I know I’m a fan of Yuzuru Tachikawa, but episode 5 actually didn’t do too much for me, to be honest (even though it was visual spectacle, which is Tachikawa’s strong suit). However, while episode 7 looked less punchy overall, it was miles better…
“First-press limited edition? That is the absolute best decision.” – What is that referring to??? Update: It’s referring to the BDs...or DVDs...or both.
Update: Forgot to add Double Decker to the title and tags.

Mob Psycho 100 II 9 - 11 | My Roommate is a Cat 9 - 11 | Spec Ops Asuka 9 - 11 | Shield Hero 9 - 10 | Morose Mononokean 10 | Double Decker! EX 2 | Price of Smiles 10 - 11
Mob Psycho II 9
So…uh…is this the first time we’ve had lyrics for the OP???
For some reason, “you little s***” is a hilarious nickname…in my head.
Is it just me, or did the style of Teruki’s eyes change when he got that stack of hair off his head?
My Roommate is a Cat 9
Please don’t let that random voice be the do-oh no. I was right *sigh* As much as I think dogs are fine and cute and all, this is a show about a cat, so naturally I feel diametrically opposed to dogs when watching.
Long ago, the writer and his cat lived in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Signing attacked! …Yeah. I couldn’t resist the Avatar pun…of course.
Aw…Kawase is a good guy, even if he’s a bit obnoxious to poor Haru.
As someone who’s currently volunteering at a charity store, I forget to say “thanks” all the time. It eats me up, it really does…
That post-credits sequence was funny, but only because I could read the “dying message” (it’s katakana ha <-> kanji hachi -> number 8).
Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka 9
Oh hey, a cheerleader stamp (sticker...?) from the Cheerleader vs Megaton Shark movie!
Wait, whaaaaaaaaat?! I thought Asuka was Tamara’s older sister (metaphorically), but…she’s nottttttttttttttt??? Also, why doesn’t Tamara get creeped out by the fact her stuffed toy could be a Disas in disguise?
Why is everyone so…for lack of a better term…gay for Asuka?! Even Tabira…
Ouch for Tabira. I’m just laughing because it’s like seeing SekaTsuyo or Bikini Warriors being torn up in front of my face – I’m thanking whoever made this for that image alone!
Cenobite. Basically…it’s another horror reference.
The Osprey stands out so much…CGI..it’s so garish…
Garish CGI strikes again, this time in the form of a 4WD!
Shield Hero 9
Naofumi’s such a dad…haha.
It’s a Filo-and-fish! Hahaha! (Update: I’m aware there are some of you who might never have heard of a Fillet-o-fish and so…there you go. It’s a McDonald’s meal name. It makes me hungry just thinking about it, to be honest though.)
Why does Motoyasu even care so much for underage girls? Sure, they have their rights too, but…is he a lolicon???
They talk about “white privilege”…so maybe there’s “hero privilege” as well…hmm…
Motoyasu’s “treasure-protection shields” versus Filo = 0 to 2, Filo’s victory! Hahaha!
Morose Mononokean 10
The idea of Rippou being amused by “a mundane world plank”…amuses me. So does the idea of Abeno and Ashiya walking around as a shingami and witch, respectively…Come to think of it, Ashiya’s always the one who dresses like a woman if the need arises, huh?
I feel sorry for Zenko, to be honest…I mean, she’s wearing what’s meant to be Abeno’s outfit! She’s going to trip, y’know? Where are the OH and S concerns (OH and S = occupational healh and safety, though...yeah, I make that mistake a lot)???
Come to think of it, I wasn’t tracking where Abeno’s book went. So he left it in the Mononokean…I see.
Poor Fuzzy! He got taken by Komon!!!
Smol Itsuki…I swear I’ve seen a similar character in a manga before – and somehow I know it’s a manga, but I don’t remember which one…
Double Decker! EX 2
Couldn’t you just ask “Milla” (even if he’s not a Police Academy graduate)? Pretend Valery is Kirill or something, maybe.
I can’t believe they’re still making jokes about Doug’s laundry…
I feel kind of bad at snickering at this crossdressing thing – you know how the LGBTIQ+ community feels about this stuff, don’t you?
Travis’s pick-up lines are too cheesy for this earth…*shakes head with grin on face*
There’s a police bird mascot on the dashboard of the Seven-O car.
When I realised what Mr Goldman was doing to Kirill (potential sekuhara and disguise reveal, if you know what I mean)…my face went all funny…
I don’t think I’ve seen a Kirill and Valery eyecatch before…hmm.
The fact there were two men making out in the change rooms…I wonder if that was played for humour? If so, that’s nasty to the LGBTIQ+ people, y’know?
“Max, that’s mine. Take good care of it.” – Your…what, Deana? Your target???
The next-ep preview had me laughing! Travis, don’t give yourself away!!! But now I get why Kirill was in a wedding dress.
Price of Smiles 10
Y’know, Lily, you shouldn’t wish for a kid to be confined to their house forever. Kids grow up and then need to make a living…at least, that’s what I’ve learnt.
I honestly (almost…?) thought we’d only see casualties on Yuki’s side…guess I was wrong.
Shield Hero 10
Notably, a lot of Western-inspired fantasy works such as this use “runes” based on stylised English…including the map that appears in this ep.
This knight that’s doing all the talking…his name is Ake, according to the interface.
My Roommate is a Cat 10
The irony of that dog bag of Haru’s (the human girl’s).
Cats and Dreams (Neko to Yume) = a parody of Hana to Yume (Flowers and Dreams).
All these thoughts Subaru has of his mother make me want to hug mine…
“50 inches”, my butt! (The newspaper says there’ll be 50 centimetres of snow...)
I expected Okami to be at the supermarket (Nana, not her brother)…but instead, Hiroto showed up. What a small world it is in this anime…(well, it is all set in the same neighbourhood, with the exception of that signing, so it should be. At least, I guess so.)
F*** it, Hiroto. I thought you were annoying in the past, but you’re nice too! What’s up with this show??? Why do I feel everything Subaru feels??? (Uh…past me, maybe, that’s the point of this show…?)
The cat show is also relatable in how I peel apples…and that would probably carry over to other fruit and veg too…
If there’s one thing I can annoy this show about, it’s how to transition between human and cat perspectives. Aside from that, it’s A-OK!
Morose Mononokean 11
Wait, these birds have one foot (each) and ear wings??? Wuh???
Oh, now that Abeno mentions it, Chungo has a crescent, but one of the other bros has a heart on his belly. Another one has a circular pattern with a round dent where the head is (like a partial moon, with the smaller edge inverted).
One of the “birds” has two dents in his belly pattern (like the one I described just before, but this time with a W shape).
Hmm…in much the same way the police act as a representative of the state, the reason there needs to be a master of the Mononokean is to represent it…and maybe the Legislator. Is that right, people?
Come to think of it…”chun” roughly means “tweet”, hence “Chunichi”, “Chunji” etc.
The name of this episode is Kii (literally, “return to residence” as far as I understand it…I may have misinterpreted that second kanji though).
Is Komon a “she”? It’s hard to tell, really.
Mob Psycho 100 10
“Prime Minister Yabe”, eh?
I think I saw “ONE” written on one of the buildings.
I sort of saw the comparison between Sho and his dad coming as soon as I saw Ritsu and Sho hanging out together.
I found my old first season predictions from summer 2016 and now I just remembr Dimple as a “green cloud”, LOL.
Well…sorry to break it to you guys, but someone’s post was called “Dimple makes the Body Improvement Club PLUS ULTRA” so I sort of know where this is going…
Hmm…this “muscles with psychic power =/= muscles with training” thing reminds me of the tomatoes from s2 ep 1.
Mob Psycho 100 11
(Mob says something along the lines of “you need to rely on others to help you survive.”) - Welp, Mob, that’s a consumerist post-Fordist society for ya.
“…don’t use your psychic powers against others.” Don’t think I’ve corrected any subs in a while.
…and randomly, Reigen.
Post-credits scene. Keep watching!
I just realised these “courses” mentiond in the next-ep previews are related to the Japanese side of things – BDs, DVDs, events and manga.
Egao no Daika 11
Almost done with the season, eh?
Couldn’t Huey have been shown giving the money, rather than keeping it a secre until the rest of the group did it…?
Please say that’s an armistice, Yu-oh no.
I feel like revealing Izana’s death to his family now…is a bit late.
That’s Stella’s fish bowl! Great Scott! (Okay…that was a terrible pun. Y’see, Scott was the one who believed Stella was Layla’s daughter…and he was right.)
Oh…end of credits segment. Keep watching.
Notably, the ep 12 title (”The Price of Smiles”) is written in kanji + hiragana, instead of the katakana of the show title.
Spec Ops Asuka 11
“I don’t want to run.” – Well, with Nozo-chan leaning on her like that, Sayako definitely won’t be running…in more ways than one.
Ken can mean “dog” in certain contexts, y’know. So Kenjou seems like a good name for a dog boi...spirit…thing?
My Roommate is a Cat 11
I’m going to miss this show when it’s gone…
I feel like a better episode title translation would be “Overlapping Feelings”.
Hmm…I never thought he (Subaru) was wearing a tonne of blue because he liked it. I just thought it was a good aesthetic choice on the part of the mangaka…welp, at least there’s a reason for it now.
