Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
- John 4:9
Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
- John 4:29

I think often of my Catechist.
He helped me understand how the positive things I grew up with in my Adventist beliefs have been fully realized within the Orthodox Church.
There were some hard truths that I wasn't prepared to accept - especially since I live in a predominantly Adventist sub-culture. And at the time I wasn't prepared to face a few things. We are known for our Sabbitarianism, but that is only the surface - study the Investigative Judgement if you want to know how truly lost in the woods Adventist theology is. It's not a terrible dogma if you view God with certain assumptions, but the Orthodox soteriology makes much of that moot.
In the end, after our lessons I didn't ask to be brought into the church. I still have my wife and family who do follow the Adventist faith to consider, and, as I said, I don't think I was ready.
At this point though, I do not think that I will ever mention his name publicly for the kindness he showed me. I'm afraid of the reprisals he might face for his kindness.

Around the time I made my first communion (aged like 10 or so?) I had a catachist who taught us that the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes was Jesus inspiring people in the crowd to put the rations they had brought into the baskets for the next person, not, like, and actual MIRACLE per say, and looking back it seems like such a heretical thing to teach young kids????
