Excellent for beginners and intermediates After learning classical guitar for about 4 months I felt a need to move on to learning some actual pieces of real music. Willard's "Fifty Easy Classical Guitar Solos" has really fulfilled that need. This is a superb collection of classical guitar solos that progress from easy to somewhat more challenging. Most of the pieces are by great composers such as Sor, Giuliani, Carulli, and many others. The musical scores are beautifully set out on quality paper and are easy to read. Tabs are included. The book comes with a CD containing every solo. They are beautifully played at a moderate pace. I find the CD to be wonderfully helpful in learning the pieces. I very highly recommend this book to classical guitar students at the beginning to intermediate level. Go to Amazon
Great starter book for classical guitar I really wanted to get back to classical guitar - I'm not bad at folk, know a little flamenco, but never got into classical. In other words, I know how to play the guitar in terms of basic technique but needed a graduated set of exercises that would help me learn to sight-read music, not just use tabs, and let me work my way through progressively more difficult music. This book turned out to be just the thing. Each piece is a little more difficult than the last -- not too much so, but enough so I really feel like I'm making progress, and the exercises are musical enough to be enjoyable. Go to Amazon
Great for beginners Great choice for beginners. Not intimidating. Go to Amazon
This is a fantastic book to work through This is a fantastic book to work through, and I am constantly recommending it as a supplement to method books because the too much material in the method books are written for two guitars. The only thing keeping this review from being 5 stars, and it is a close thing, is that the material isn't 100% progressive in the order it's presented. Again, I recommend this book constantly. A compendium of thoughtful pieces! Great book full of arrangements that are easy to read and play. Go to Amazon
Good Easy songs I've been playing for 3 months and these songs are not too difficult to play. They are mostly in first position and don't require any odd fingerings. The songs have a simple beauty and while they are simple, still sound good enough to impress others. (Maybe non guitar players hah) It's great that it comes with a cd, so that you know how the songs are supposed to sound like. This book has 50 songs, that's a lot of songs. I recommend this for beginner players, it's sure to please. Makes a great gift for the guitarist in your life. Go to Amazon
Encore! These pieces are by the great composers (Sor, Carcassi, Carulli, et al), so even though the earliest tunes in the book (they become progressively more difficult as they go) are little more than bare melodies, all the music is beautiful. Other than the joy of hearing (and playing!) what a few musical geniuses came up with a few hundred years ago, you also get to improve your reading skills, and you get to improve your playing technique, and you even get to build your repertoire. Yes - many of these pieces, though very simple, are delightful to listeners when played with emotion and imbued with good tone and timing and technique -- when they are brought to life, in other words.
