Name: Caramel
Nicknames: Glitzy, Crumb
Age: 19
Pronouns: she/her
Occupation: Information broker
Favorite foods: Flan, enchiladas, anything that looks fancy, (Oozesquitos? I think it would be very funny for her to just eat them like candy, but I don't know if she would double mutate from it and I don't want that to happen.)
Favorite color: Orange
Personality: Caramel is very expressive. She has a soft spot for young mutants, and doesn't want them to be forced into working for a meal like her. She very much likes people and would love to chat away with them, but the nature of her job leaves her reserved and paranoid. If she had friends, she might have to sell them out. Or, perhaps, they would sell her out. She's clever and good at negotiating a deal. She personally believes that mutating is bad and will prevent a mutation if she can. On the job, Caramel masks her emotions, and is very steady and dependable.
Fun facts:
Caramel spends her spare time in the library, trying to learn more.
Her nickname Glitzy comes from what Big Mama said about her yellow markings when they first met. Crumb came from a kid who couldn't pronounce her name.
Caramel doesn't have a home, instead switching to different temporary safe houses to keep others from easily locating her.
Caramel can still talk using frog noises.
She can also climb walls and jump very high.
She made her mask to keep herself from being easily recognized.
She also made it bird shaped because she thinks birds are scary.
Caramel wants to be hugged very, very badly.
Backstory:
Caramel was the class pet of a special needs science class. She was bought to help students learn about biology. The teacher named her Caramel, because she looked a bit like melting sugar, but a few of the kids struggled to say her name so they called her Crumb instead.
One day, one of the kids accidentally let Caramel escape. She somehow ended up in the Hidden City, where she stumbled upon Draxum making oozesquitos and she ate some and mutated.
She tried to go back home, but found that the teacher was terrified of her now. She ended up hiding in the school and learning along with the students, but in the end, the school realized food was going missing and made preventative measures to keep the food from being stolen, so she went back to the Hidden City.
She used her skills from hiding at the school and her natural frog talents to get into a lot of places she wasn't supposed to, stealing enough food to survive.
Her skills were caught by Big Mama, who quickly recognized that she wasn't Yokai and offered her a deal. Use her skills to get things Big Mama wanted and she'd be rewarded. Quickly, Caramel realized she'd rather not agree blindly to this and negotiated to instead steal information. She also managed to not be forced into a contract and instead be hired on a case-by-case basis. She told Big Mama how she was mutated to get her to be let lose and escape.
Caramel, recognizing this as an opportunity, began selling her services using the name 'Glitzy', not wanting her employers to call her by her real name. She bought swords and a mask and various locks and found people willing to teach her lockpicking (probably the Mud Dogs) and enough sword fighting (someone else) to keep herself safe in case of emergencies.
She often keeps Big Mama informed of the activities of her employees and is responsible for most, if not all, the blackmail Big Mama uses.
In addition to selling information to Big Mama, she likely informs a lot of other people, for instance, she's paid by the Hidden City police, and by a lot of smaller crooks.
(She doesn't give out information surrounding what she's hired for. For instance, if she's hired to find information that results in a crime, she doesn't use that information to then sell to the police, she instead tells them she can't for confidentiality reasons.)
Small tidbit, but Caramel was a part of @mochi-myles Citrus's story. She was paid to watch Mrs. Winters' cafe and give the rival cafe a good time to ransack the place as well as information on any codes or how to deactivate any other security measures. This is probably why the rival cafe wasn't arrested. They weren't caught and Caramel couldn't give the police information about the crime.

If I keep thoughts inside my head for too long I die so here is a ramble of some lore stuff ( mainly Dark Cacao Kingdom based ) works in my general au ( Aka it’s not tied to one specific au in particular this is sort of just a canon divergence I use in almost all of my works )
( Under read more because my rants can get long )
Okay so basically for My Lore Latte and Espresso ( who are cousins, in my headcanon ) grew up in the Coffee Tribe and then the Dark Flour War happened which caused the Coffee Tribe to either disperse to other parts of the kingdom or run away to new lands entirely, such as The Republic ( if you ask for a timeline as to how this all works don’t ask my brain hurts trying to figure out anything Devsis does I am allowed some liberties so I do not go insane )
Latte and Espresso take a ship over to the Republic ( alone; their families either abandon them or die ) and that was kind of the gist of the lore I had for them UNTIL the Dark Cacao Kingdom update Which introduced Affogato
Now the fact that the Coffee Tribe settlement is abandoned is SO,,, it makes me so invested in something that Devsis may or may not ever explain but they keep giving us crumbs of Espresso lore and I am so eager to learn more about him. In addition the way Affogato speaks about his past makes me intently curious about where he grew up ( likely the Citadel, but that’s a bit of a boring answer, is it not? )
So with that in mind I have made some revised lore for the coffee tribe and the coffee trio’s pasts ( revised? Not really revised per say, just some add-ons ), as well as the DC kingdom in general.
——
-The Coffee Tribe is heavily against sweetness and magic ( Aka; if you can do something on your own, then why should you “cheat” with magic? ). The DC Kingdom‘s populace is implied to have at least an aversion to sweets, if not outright discriminatory against cookies of that nature. This led to Affogato being treated harshly as a child as he represented everything the tribe hated ( Sweetness, magic, the mix of sugar and bitterness )
-You may be wondering, then, why Latte was not treated in the same manner. Well, that is because of the Milk Tribe. Latte was born because of a marriage made to ease tensions between the two tribes, and as such, her being treated well was essential for both of the tribes well-being ( and in DMATA, the villagers kind of feared her as they sensed an eldritch power within her ). Affogato, unfortunately, did not have a similar group for where his sweetness came from.
-Latte learned about magic after accidentally performing it herself and sneaking off during one of her families trips to the Citadel to learn more. She then taught Espresso about it, and the two began to practice it in secret. In Affogato’s case, his parents taught it to him before they vanished.
-Affogato was aware of Latte and Espresso’s existence but was not acquainted with them before the Coffee Tribe fell into ruin. He felt extremely bitter at the fact that Latte was treated normally while he was forced to obey the tribe’s orders; though he also saw the villagers whisper behind her back about how much they hated Latte, and that also angered him. ( And that is what kickstarted his general act in present, along with Caramel Arrow )
-While Latte and Espresso ran away after the Coffee Tribe was attacked, Affogato fled into the Citadel and was treated no less better than he was in the tribe, until he started lying and manipulating others to get a nicer home and job. It was there he first met with Caramel Arrow, who he saw training in the grounds with the king supervising. He thought they might be able to get along, being made of sweets and having possibly faced similar difficulties, but her promotion to Watcher ( and eventually First Watcher ) made him so enraged that it basically dashed any chances of a possible friendship before they even introduced themselves to each other. ( Getting into oc lore, this is the reason Affogato doesn’t hate Marble Cake; he faced much of the same difficulties getting into his position of official, combined with never rising above Affogato or “getting in the way” of his ulterior plans )
-The Coffee Tribe, historically, has served the DC kingdom as either Watchers or guards along the wall. However, after the Dark Flour War ( DFW, for convenience ), the position is mostly held by cookies that have resided in the citadel. ( If you wonder why, it is because the Coffee Tribe could stay awake for days at a time with little drop in performance; an incredibly useful ability for a guard to have. Very few monsters dared to attack the Citadel while a Coffee Tribe member was watching. )
-Affogato’s main goal is to gain, well, power, but it’s not an inherently “evil” desire that drives him to do so. Being king grants many things- and, in Affogato’s case, the most alluring is the safety that comes with the power. All throughout his life, he has been in danger, so if he could just rise to the throne… though he also has the motivation of wanting to make the DC kingdom a place where sweetness and entertainment can coexist with the bitterness already in the kingdom. ( He has a very “ends justify the means” mindset and is also apathetic to anyone’s suffering but his own and possibly other sweet cookies if they don’t prove and obstacle in his goal. I am not justifying his actions, I am just explaining them )
-Dark Cacao himself is of the same general mindset of equality ( how could he not be, being such close friends with the rest of the ancients ), but grief without proper coping and help takes a toll on someone’s mental state, not to mention running an entire kingdom and knowing there is a very dangerous set of monsters living in the sea. Affogato sees it as apathetic to his citizen’s concerns. After Episode 14, Dark Cacao sets to make a change in the kingdom, including the bias against sugary cookies.
-Again on the king, DCao knew Affogato was lying to him. He’s not stupid. He knew that those outside the citadel were suffering, and that his reputation was crumbling as a result. So, when Affogato accused Caramel Arrow, he saw it as a perfect opportunity to ensure that at least one person he trusted was protecting the outside. Affogato was not aware of this.
-On Affogato’s incenses, actually; most of them simply amplify the negative emotions he wants. It makes DCao just slightly more irritable and stubborn than he usually would be. DCao throws them all out when he gains back his position as king, now realizing what they were- the incenses are only effective at a short range.
-Caramel Arrow was trained at a young age by the king himself. Her family came from a long line of watchers, and she soon would follow them. She became a Watcher at the youngest age ever recorded, and has been in steadfast loyalty to the king ever since. Cookies in the DC kingdom do not care that Carrow is sweet because of her family’s status ( which is, yet again, another reason for Affogato’s unending hatred of her, as just because she was born into a family of watchers meant that no one cared for her flavor- completely ignoring the years of hard work and perseverance she put into even gaining the position of watcher. )
-Were Affogato and Espresso ever to meet they’d probably be vicious enemies at first due to Espresso being incredibly dramatic over sweetening coffee. Latte and Affogato might actually get along quite nicely in comparison. ( Not really DC kingdom related, but just a thought )
Oh wow this is long! I think that’s all I have for right now but if you have any questions do let me know and I’ll do my best to follow up on them

Filling out my cacao storyline bingo card + explanations and stuff
(Spoilers under cut)
Tumblr media
BINGO!!!!! 🥳
Okay I’m going to go through every square and talk about them bc I have too much time on my hands (ones marked in red were ones I marked in my bingo card)
Espressoleine hint/tease
Thank god there was none of that
Dark Choco redemption/hinting at redemption
So, I think this once speaks for itself. It’s less of a redemption and more of the start of the redemption. I’m marking it down.
Affogato is a villain or at least morally grey
Self explanatory
Dark cacao/affogato ship art
Surprisingly, I haven’t seen a ton of it. I really thought a bunch of people would jumping on that wagon haha
Espresso dialogue
UGHHHH I WISH HE AND AFFOGATO INTERACTED!!!! I did like his little thing with the destroyed coffee tribe village in 13 tho
new bonds
That shits so disappointing like cmon
Insufficient Caramel Arrow story involvement
YESSS!!!! THEY DIDNT SHAFT MY GIRL!!!!!!!! I would’ve liked to hear more about her relationship with Choco but that little bit about him teaching her to fight sated my thirst pretty well lol
Dragons
WHYYYYY DEVSIS!!! YOU GIVE US COOL FUCKING LORE AND DESIGNS AND YOU DONT USE IT????? I want to know more about the black and white dragons so fucking badly. I’m assuming they’ll never have story relevance now which makes me SO MAD!!!! They’re everywhere on the cacao kingdom architecture!!!! Please tell us more about them and their significance to cacao culture!!!!! I will never not be pissed about that :/
Dark enchantress involvement
She wasn’t there lol
Cacao in disguise
Very glad they didn’t go the “omg he’s disguised nobody knows who he is” route. I like that it took him a while to get into his armor. I really hope we get the robes as a costume :)
Lack of Dark Enchantress involvement
Like, she wasn’t there in person is what I was going for with that one.
Dark Choco is kicked from the meta since Cacao is meta
Now, I almost didn’t mark this one, but I’m counting it since I hardly see Choco in arena anymore. Personally I still prefer him for stuff like guild battles and bosses, but yeah having used cacao he’s like way better lol
Dark cacao thirst
It’s my free space but still. I’ve seen it. You’ve seen it. God has seen it.
Impossible boss
Yeah uhhhhh that 14-30 kinda…… um…… let’s just say I miss raspberry
F2P players shafted
Yeah lol I did the math on like the first day. Sorry f2p homies 😔
Coffee tribe mention
Well, at least they were mentioned…? Still would’ve liked more. Devsis fucking sucks at worldbuilding :(
No CoD storyline mention
THANK GOD FOR CONTINUITY AND CINEMATIC PARALLELS BABY!!!
Arena saturation
Yeah self explanatory
Dark Choco has no plot relevance
ONCE AGAIN, THANK GOD
Emotionally absent father
Okay I was on the fence about marking this one but tbh this is how I interpreted it. Cacao seemingly only trained his son for battle and never really was a “father” to him, yknow?
No info about golden cheese
Kill me
No trauma resolution
I was also on the fence about this one but I decided that yeah it happened. Cacao realizing where he went wrong in fatherhood was probably as far as it could go anyway since the damage had already been done, and Choco, well, that’s an entire other post
Gingerbrave on his dumb shit
SURPRISINGLY DIDNT HAPPEN!!!!! Really happy about that. Happy about gingergangs entirely separate involvement in the plot this time. I liked seeing the others work it out on their own without fireteam mcguffin butting in with their “you have depression? Just smile :)” bullshit
Flashbacks
Surprised that there were no flashbacks. Well there was one VERY brief one but I’m not counting it. Wish we saw more cacao and young Choco interactions so we could fully understand their relationship :/
Glimpse of milk tribe
Thank you for this crumb of sustenance devsis. It will tide me over until we get some golden cheese info or another ovenbreak legendary :)
