Peter Gerhardsson has selected the squad for the last international match of the year. It is a practice international match against Australia, in Australia which awaits on November 12.

The national team captain has taken out 23 players but chooses to leave the big star Fridolina Rolfö at home.

- If you want to look at other players, you sometimes have to leave someone out and the choice this time fell on Fridolina. I know her as a player that I know where I am. She has been in all three international matches we have had this autumn and I have spoken to her about my decision, he says.

What did she say when you talked to her?

- There is something between her and me, but we have a good dialogue about it all, but it is my decision.

The union captain raises several names that may be relevant for Rolfö's position.

- In that particular left position, we are looking at many players. Johanna Rytting Kaneryd has played on the left at Chelsea, Olivia Schough does it, Lina Hurtig does it, says Peter Gerhardsson.

- I feel quite confident in what I have Fridolina right now. Next year, she will compete again.

Just like during the last collection, goalkeeper Jennifer Falk chooses to stay at home as she and her partner are expecting the couple's first child in a few days.

- We have had a dialogue with Jennifer and it is completely acceptable.

It is notable that Emma Holmgren, who was critical of the national team management during the last gathering , is also missing from the goalkeeper side.

- Both Leffe and I have spoken to her and explained the situation. I want players who want to join and who want to play all the time so it's a normal process in the whole thing.

The explanation for Holmgren being left out is that Peter Gerhardsson and goalkeeper coach Leif Troedsson want to see Linköping's Cajsa Andersson instead.

- Cajsa is a player we wanted to have with us during this autumn and we thought it was a good time now. Linköping has performed very well, says the union captain.

The star in the November squad is Atletico Madrid's Hanna Lundkvist.

- She is a very interesting player. She is useful in many positions. Last U23 international where I think she was very skilled and one of the absolute best in Sweden then she played central midfield. It's a player we talk about before every gathering.

Australia is one of the host nations for next summer's World Cup, but Sweden, who were drawn in Group G , will play their group stage matches in New Zealand.

The match is played in Melbourne at 14.45 local time, which means 4.45 Swedish time.

MANILA – As the whole world continues to battle the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, chess players are now going online to continue to play the game.

This time, it will be the Philippines vs Sweden All-Female Chess Showdown on Sunday (April 26) at Lichess.

The 20-board match is being organized by Sweden-based WIM Cristine Rose Mariano-Wagman of the Philippines and her friend Susanna Berg-Laachiri of Sweden.

Games will be played online starting at 9 p.m. Sunday Manila time.

“It will be just a friendly 20-board match featuring the top female players of the Philippines and Sweden,” said Mariano-Wagman, who still holds the record as the youngest female player to become a national women’s champion at age 14.

“But I expect real good matches during the competition,” added Mariano-Wagman, who is married to Swedish businessman Jorgen Wagman.

Woman Grand Master (WGM) Janelle Mae Frayna will spearhead the Philippines’ campaign in the online dual match.

Joining Mariano-Wagman and Frayna in the Philippine team are Woman International Master (WIM) Catherine Pereña-Secopito, WIM Shania Mendoza, WIM Marie Antoinette San Diego, WIM Bernadette Galas, WIM Kylen Joy Mordido, WIM Vic Glysen Derotas, WFM Cherry Ann Mejia, WFM Allaney Jia Doroy, WFM Samantha Glo Revita, WFM Ella Grace Moulic, WFM Jerlyn Mae San Diego, Woman National Master Francois Marie Magpily, Rowelyn Joy Acedo, Franchell Eds Javier, Daphne Dy, Mary Joy Tan, Florence Faith S. Although she acquired her Swedish citizenship in 2016, Mariano-Wagman said she chose to play for Team Philippines during the friendly match.

“Gusto nga po sana nila na maglaro ako sa Swedish team, pero pinili ko sa Philippines para ma-inspire ko ang mga kababayan natin (They want me to play for Sweden team but I chose to play for the Philippines to inspire countrymen),” said Mariano-Wagman, who also now has a six-year-old son named Logan. A couple of weeks ago two dear girls from Sweden was here visiting me in San Diego. We all grew up in the same hometown but one of them is living in Stockholm now and the other one in San Francisco. It’s always kind of weird when you get visitors from back home, though, it’s also always very appreciated. And we had a great time - In the pictures we were at Torrey pines hiking trails and did the beach trail hike which takes about an hour to finish.
