Jake loves resting his head in your lap as you both watch TV, especially since he knows you'll be running your hands through his hair the whole time. Practically makes him purr.

The first time he does it is early on in your relationship, and to be honest it shocks you slightly.

Because while you’ve started to see past all that bravado that is Hangman, being with Jake is like peeling away layers of an onion - there are so many, and they sometimes make you cry (happy tears, sad tears, all)

He had so casually plopped down on the couch and deposited his head in your lap.

You looked down expecting to see green eyes staring up at you with a smirk, but his ear is against your thigh, head turned towards the tv.

You pause a moment, before you let yourself run your hands through his hair. He doesn’t say anything, just focuses in the show.

You keep running your fingers absently through his hair; but you feel your phone buzz on the couch beside you and you drop your hands to pick up your phone.

You get absorbed in the text chain, when you suddenly feel his head shift in your lap, you shift your phone out of the way to find yourself meeting green eyes, a raised brow and a slightly furrowed brow.

“Why did you stop?” He asks and you are confused for a moment.

“Stop what?”

“Hands,” he says simply and it dawns on you. Makes you laugh a bit to be honest, because of the way he is looking at you - so accusatory at not having his head scratched / hair played with.

“Hangman likes having his head scratched?” You tease him and he only turns his head back towards the television.

You don’t continue your ministrations, and he clears his throat super loudly, and again, until you resume.

You hear a rumble from him - that almost sounds like a purr, and it makes you giggle, but you continue anyway, and Jake smiles to himself wordlessly, because he loves it.

Needless to say, it becomes a routine.

Ok so I'm gonna get a lot of shit from everyone but I'm finally now getting to read To Have and to Scold in it's entirety and not just the random snippets. My lovely friend...it's amazing!!! And I know there's still another chapter left to go but holy shit. Like most, I'm not a huge rpf reader but like...your fics are so good at creating a separate Joe/Joey from one another AND from the man himself. I love it. So good. I can't wait to see how this all ends and I can't wait for the next adventure.
