HCM City leader welcomes Cambodian Minister of Cults and Religion

He said that they show efforts of both sides to promote religious cooperation, making contributions to the traditional friendship and comprehensive collaboration between the two nations in general and between the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Cambodian Buddhism in particular.
Him Chhem, for his part, briefed the host of the talks with the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, saying that the two religious management bodies outlined orientations to foster cooperative ties in 2018 as part of efforts to consolidate solidarity and friendship between the two nations.
Expressing his impression when visiting the Cu Chi tunnel relic site, he spoke highly of Vietnamese people’s patriotism during the struggle for the national independence and reunification.
He also took the occasion to thank Vietnamese people and army for supporting Cambodia in escaping the Pol Pot genocide regime so Cambodian people can enjoy a peaceful, stable and prosperous life today.-

The Vietnamese government leaders always appreciate invaluable feedback on directing the macro-economy from experts and scholars, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue has said. 
During a reception in Hanoi on March 13 for Prof. Andreas Hauskrecht, a public finance expert at the Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, Hue said PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc want to listen to feedback from his economic consulting group, experts from the Vietnam Initiative and scientists to continue refining Vietnam’s macro-economic policy. 
He thanked the professor for working closely with Vietnamese agencies to share information, analyse domestic and foreign economic situations, and give policy recommendations to the Vietnamese government. 
The host suggested Prof. Hauskrecht continue assisting Vietnamese agencies in the near future, particularly sharing information and experience in the US’s financial management system, connecting with the US’s prestigious professors and scholars, and the world’s leading think-tanks and experts. 
Hauskrecht, for his part, shared the US’s fiscal and monetary policies in the recent years and impacts on Vietnam, and offered recommendations to the Vietnamese government in directing the macro-economy in 2018 and the following years. 
The guest described the Vietnamese government’s de-dollarization as a proper policy and suggested maintaining a zero-percent interest rate for the US dollar. 
He expressed his impression on Vietnam’s economic growth in 2017 and support for the policy of continuing to maintain macro-economic stability and ensure stable and sustainable growth in the near future.
The professor is on a working visit to Vietnam as asked by the coordinating board of the Vietnam Initiative at the Indiana University.
Communist Parties of Vietnam, Russia seek to bolster economic ties

The Communist Party of Russian Federation always attaches importance to the traditional ties with the Communist Party of Vietnam and wants to play an active role in developing the bilateral ties in investment, trade, banking-finance, and tourism.
The opinion was delivered by Leonid Ivanovich Kalashnikov, member of the Presidium – Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation in Hanoi on March 13 at his meeting with Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Economic Affairs Nguyen Van Binh.
For his part, Binh said the Party and Government of Vietnam prioritize consolidating the long-standing friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Russia, highly speaking of the progress the two nations made in economics and trade.
He welcomed initiatives made by the Communist Party of Russian Federation to bolster the two countries’ cooperation in economics, trade and investment.
On March 12, Kalashnikov met with Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Affairs Hoang Binh Quan during which the two sides discussed ways to boost the two parties’ relations in the coming years.
They agreed that the parties need to further enhance cooperation, and increase information exchange and coordination at multilateral political party forums.
On the same day, the Russian official was hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung, who is also Chairman of the Vietnam-Russia Inter-Governmental Committee for Economic-Commercial and Scientific-Technological Cooperation.
Dung agreed with several proposals by the Communist Party of Russian Federation to effectively implement the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Free Trade Agreement which is expected to bring the two-way trade between the two nations to 10 billion USD in 2020.
During the visit, the Russian officials had a working session with officials from the State Bank of Vietnam, seeking to step up affiliations in finance-banking.-
New Zealand hails Vietnam’s important role in signing of CPTPP
New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters hails Vietnam’s role in the signing of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in Chile on March 8. 
As the host of the APEC Year 2017, Vietnam played an important role in promoting the signing of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in Chile on March 8, said New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters. 
During his meeting with Vietnamese Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh on March 13 as part of PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s official visit to New Zealand, Peters spoke highly of Vietnam’s leading role in the APEC Economic Leaders Week, saying that it brought positive results to the APEC progress as the region and the world are witnessing unfavourable conditions for trade liberalisation and economic connectivity.
He highlighted the significance of PM Phuc’s ongoing visit to New Zealand and expressed his hope that the visit will help expand and elevate bilateral ties to a new height.
For his part, Minh said Vietnam stands ready to share experience and support New Zealand when the country hosts the APEC Year 2021.
The two officials agreed to promote the implementation of the Action Plan for the 2017-2020 period, thus making contributions to deepening the bilateral cooperation in various fields and creating a premise to upgrade Vietnam-New Zealand ties to the level of strategic partnership.
They expressed their pleasure at the close cooperation between the two foreign ministries and affirmed to boost collaboration in strategic issues, both bilaterally and multilaterally. In that spirit, they agreed to hold the 11th foreign ministerial-level political consultation in New Zealand soon.
While discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern, Peters said that he was interested in recent developments on the Korean peninsula and the East Sea, and affirmed his support for ASEAN and China in promoting negotiations on a Code of Conduct (COC) in the East Sea.
On this occasion, Deputy PM and FM Pham Binh Minh invited his New Zealand counterpart Winston Peters to visit Vietnam at a convenient time.

The official made the remarks at his meeting with Phnom Penh’s Governor Khuong Sreng on March 13, noting that HCM City wishes to foster collaboration with Phnom Penh in tourism, industry and transport. 
He congratulated Cambodian people on their great achievements, and the Cambodian People’s Party on its victory at the fourth senate election in February 2018. 
Nhan also praised initiatives raised by Phnom Penh leaders to send young leaders of districts of Phnom Penh to HCM City to exchange experience in management and urban development. 
For his part, Khuong Sreng recalled Vietnam’s great support for Cambodia during its struggle for national liberation. 
He highlighted Cambodian leaders’ responsibility for educating young generations to promote the fruitful neighbourliness and time-honoured cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam, as well as 
between Phnom Penh and HCM City. 
The Governor said the Cambodian delegation comprises young leaders of Phnom Penh’s districts, who understand Vietnam’s support for Cambodia’s fight against the Pol Pot genocidal regime.
Vietnam National Assembly, Fatherland Front enhance coordination

The National Assembly Standing Committee (NASC) and the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) should enhance their close and effective coordination to fulfill their political tasks.
NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan made the request at a conference held in Hanoi to review the 15 years of the implementation of their coordination regulations, on March 14.
The event was co-chaired by the NA Chairwoman and VFF President Tran Thanh Man.
Speaking at the conference, NA Chairwoman Ngan emphasised that, over the past 15 years, the two agencies have coordinated effectively, thereby contributing to promoting the activities of the entire political system.
She asked the two bodies to focus on several important issues in 2018, including building laws related to human rights, fundamental rights and the obligations of citizens, as well as the organisation of State apparatus and the regulations on the NA deputies’ meeting with voters.
The VFFCC’s President Tran Thanh Man also noted that the two agencies should continue to collaborate in order to improve the mechanisms and policies on patriotic emulation movements, build laws and ordinances, and join several monitoring activities under the programme of the NA and NASC.
At the conference, NA Chairwoman Ngan and VFFCC President Man signed a coordination regulation (amendment) between the two bodies.
