Under the guise of a journalist writing a story about a tight-knit community that makes Christmas special, Campbell (Elliot) has a chance to get to know her biological father Everett (Campbell) for the first time – without him ever knowing who she really is. As she spends time with him and his family, as well as Jackson (Rottman), the town’s record keeper, she realizes that families are messy, wonderful things. In the end, Campbell must decide if she’s going to keep her identity a secret or reveal the truth to her father – a decision that will change their family Christmas forever.

“My Southern Family Christmas” is from Evergreen Films. Daniel Lewis and J.R. “Rick” Carter are executive producers. Lewis and Melissa West serve as producers. Emily Moss Wilson directed from a script by Moss Wilson and Alys Murray.

Opera

Dario Argento’s camera prowls relentlessly through the corridors of Parma’s Teatro Reggio in OPERA (1987, Shudder, Tubi), aka TERROR AT THE OPERA. With cinematographer Ronnie Taylor’s color work accompanied by excerpts from Verdi, Rossini and Puccini operas, it’s the most sumptuous of all his films. When the actual score by Brian Eno, Claudio Simonetti and Bill Wyman cuts in, it’s almost a disappointment. More disappointing is the failure of Argento’s script to measure up to the visuals. It’s not a bad idea. An understudy (Crischristtina Marsillach) becomes an overnight star when she takes over the leading role in Verdi’s MACBETH, only to be stalked by a killer. For all the beautiful camera work, Aregento can’t seem to resist lapsing into strange excesses like shots of a pulsating brain as the killer stalks Marsillach and flashbacks that pop in with no preparation. At times you’re not sure if you’re watching the current action or the traumatic past. And as in many horror films, the plot advances because the characters do inexplicably stupid things. More effective is a callback to his earlier CREEPERS, with vengeful ravens, in place of the earlier film’s love-starved chimp, playing a key role in the climax.

The film holds together better thematically. The killer uses a device to force Marsillach to watch his crimes, a metaphor for the way directors like Argento force audiences to watch unspeakable acts. Like many slashers, the film has lots of shots from the killer’s point of view as he stalks the young woman. There’s a shadowy figure spying on her through the ventilation system in her apartment. And one victim makes the mistake of staring through a peephole for too long.

The one element that matches the visuals best, however, is the acting. Along with Argeto regulars like former partner Daria Nicolodi, who’s very funny as Marsillach’s manager and studly Urbano Barberini as a police detective, he has William McNamara making interesting physical choices in his film debut as the stage manager (though you’d have to wait a year for his voice to catch up; he’s dubbed with a British accent in this one) and Ian Charleson, in his last film, as a horror film director taking on this highly conceptual production of MACBETH (Argento had been fired from a production of RIGOLETTO a few years earlier, which partly inspired this film). Best of all is Marsillach. She’s a total naif off-stage, an inexperienced, self-doubting young singer who moves like a child. But when she steps on-stage to play Lady Macbeth, she’s as fierce as Verdi’s music. When Charleson comes up with a plan to catch the killer during the performance, she manages to combine that commitment to the role with her character’s trepidation at the thought of facing her tormentor. And at the end, she accomplishes something rare in the giallo — character growth. Far from the shell-shocked heroines in so many horror films, including Argento’s, she develops a degree of self-determination that’s rather moving.

What I write, who I write, and what you can request!

Hi! This is where I have info on what I write, who I write, and what I am comfortable writing/what you can request! If you have any questions feel free to ask me!

What Maverick writes…

I write fanfiction, oneshots, and imagines, and headcannons!

These will of course include age regression or pet regression in some way, wether you the reader are a regressor, or a character is.

I will write for the fandoms/characters I have listed below. If you want a different character and don’t see them down there, you may ask if I will write for them but I won’t make any promises.

What Maverick is comfortable writing…

This is a 100% SFW blog, so no NSFW writing at all. I’m not comfortable doing that for age/pet regression.

I am perfectly fine writing relationships like dating or being married, with hand holding, cuddling, kissing, etc etc. But I will not do smut, kinks, or heated make outs.

Basically just cute fluff is what I’ll do!

I will usually write in second person point of view that way I can use ‘you’ instead of y/n.

I write a mixture of genders for

“Y/n”, I write male, female, and gender neutral that way everyone can hopefully enjoy my writing!

If you make a request and do not specify gender for “y/n” then I will just do gender neutral by default.

I will always specify before each writing piece what gender “y/n” is, and give a little summary of what the writing plot is! I will also try to put any warnings there too, so if I miss anything just let me know and I’ll add them!

Halley was born to a mother that simply couldn't take care of her. With a mother addicted to drugs, life was difficult. After finding out she was pregnant, she went to rehab, got her act together, and had Halley happily in the rehab center, but the minute she got out, she went right back to her old ways. In fact, when she was born, her name wasn't even Halley. She couldn't tell you today what it was, and she didn't want to ever know. Before her first birthday, she was put into foster care, a life that no little baby should have to deal with. A young gay couple received their adoption papers signed and approved only a few weeks earlier when they got a call about Halley. At the time, the orphanage wasn't calling her by a name, she was just "Baby X". They hadn't felt the need to keep the mother's choice for the name, as she'd only decided on it after she'd gone back under the wagon.

The two men, Brian and Camden Cooper had been married for three years at this point, and dreamed of having a child of their own. They'd hoped for a kid with red or dark brown hair, to match either one of them. When they heard about Halley, they couldn't pass up the opportunity to meet her. Her bright red hair matched Camden's perfectly and she had Brian's eyes. It was a perfect match. They rushed to the orphanage to meet her and she instantly took to them, not wanting them to leave. After they did, she cried and cried, and cried. After what felt like months, Brian and Camden adopted Halley and brought her into their home. Both of them met and bonded over their mutual love of astronomy and the stars, so they couldn't help themselves and named her Halley, after Halley's comet. She was the absolute apple of their eye.

Halley grew up loving both her dads. She knew nothing else. Even when they told her about her past, she refused to listen. She had no desire to know. During school, she was an excellent student, always wanting to help everyone, feeling really protective almost instantly. But that was a problem in itself. Because of her protective nature, sometimes, her anger and sass would get the best of her. She was always the one to instigate a fight because someone said something rude to one of her friends, or even to a random stranger in the hallway. This very quickly became a problem, resulting in her dads having to come into school often to deal with her behavior. Halley never meant to hurt anyone, and never did. It was always her words that hurt others. She was just trying to take care of people close to her. School from then on became a struggle. She was given accommodations for classes, and tests, because she'd get incredibly frustrated easily, lashing out, at either the test, or herself, causing her to cry and have full blown panic attacks. Halley hated being limited in her abilities and being told she might be just a little bit different.

Despite the stress that school then began to cause her, Halley made it through with grades no one expected her to. She went to medical school, became a nurse, and never looked back. This way, she could help people and if any patients got out of line, she'd been given permission to be the one they send in to help. Halley adored it. Life was good.

Because of her fathers, she has a fondness for space too, and probably knows way too much of it.

Personality: Halley is a good friend, really. She's very kind and protective of you if she likes you. But she's got a bit of a temper, and is known to get very quickly frustrated if things bother her. Her fathers tease her about it and say that it's because of her fire red hair. She's trying to work on it, and constantly has fidget toys in her pockets, in her car, and all around her apartment in case she starts to feel anxious in any way. Because of things like this, she's very big into comfort, and loves any kind of physical touch that she can get. Hugs, hand holding, small little things, people playing with her hair. She can't get enough of it. Her apartment is full of fuzzy, soft things, and anything squishy. Even her bed is full of stuffed animals and squishmallows. Halley just needs comfort and soft kindness, or like her fathers again tease, she'll explode into a meteor.

Wanted Connections:

Ex: One that just couldn't tolerate her attitude

The One That Got Away: This is the ex that could actually keep her calm, and help her out when she was stressed, but for whatever reason, they broke up, and it hurts her, so much. She still probably has feelings for them.

Best Friends: Friends that despite her anger and anxiety, still love the hell out of her and would do anything for her.
