#Brett Favre’s foundation

From 2018-2020, Brett Favre’s charitable foundation, Favre 4 Hope, which has a stated mission to support disadvantaged children and cancer patients, donated more than $130,000 to the University of Southern Mississippi Athletic Foundation during the same years that Favre was working to finance a new volleyball center at the school.
Favre, a Southern Mississippi alumnus, is embroiled in a welfare scandal — extensively reported by nonprofit watchdog Mississippi Today — in which millions of dollars earmarked for people in need were misappropriated. Favre received $1.1 million for speeches he did not make, according to a state auditor report and court documents, and was instrumental in moving more than $5 million in welfare dollars toward the building of the volleyball facility while his daughter was a player on the USM volleyball team. He is among dozens of individuals and organizations being sued by the state. Favre paid back the $1.1 million, though the state says he still owes $228,000 in interest. He has not been charged with wrongdoing and posted on social media that he did not know where the funding for the volleyball facility came from.
In the same years Favre was soliciting money to build the volleyball facility, his charitable foundation, which received public donations, significantly increased its contributions to USM’s athletic fundraising arm. Tax records show that Favre 4 Hope gave the USM Athletic Foundation $60,000 in 2018, when no other charity received more than $10,000. The next year, it gave $46,817; the next highest gift, to the Special Olympics of Mississippi, was $11,000. In 2020, Favre 4 Hope sent USM’s Athletic Foundation $26,175; no other organization received more than $10,000.
Tax records also show that in 2015, when Favre’s daughter was a volleyball player at Oak Grove High in Hattiesburg, the Favre 4 Hope foundation donated $60,000 to that school’s booster club, the largest grant made by Favre 4 Hope that year. The Oak Grove Booster Club subsequently granted $60,349 to the high school with the stated purpose being: “assist to build athletic facility.”
While the tax documents don’t disclose any potential conditions Favre 4 Hope may have placed on the grants to the USM Athletic Foundation or the Oak Grove Booster Club, experts were skeptical that those donations aligned with Favre 4 Hope’s stated mission to support “charitable organizations whose focus is to provide support for disadvantaged children” and “nonprofits that provide assistance to breast cancer patients.”
“You can’t say you’re raising money for one purpose and then spend it on something totally different. Charities have an ethical obligation, and in some cases a legal obligation, to fulfill the intentions of its donors in the way funds are spent,” said Laurie Styron, executive director of CharityWatch.
“There’s the letter of the law, there’s the spirit of the law and it’s something where it would probably be tough to make a legal case but it still doesn’t look good,” said Rick Cohen, Chief Operating Officer of the National Council of Nonprofits. “It isn’t unheard of for a nonprofit to expand its mission or change its mission over time if they find they need to redirect. That does not seem to be the case here.”
Favre’s attorney declined to comment as did Favre’s NFL agent, Bus Cook, who is listed as one of Favre 4 Hope’s directors on tax documents. The Athletic attempted to contact six others listed as directors on Favre 4 Hope tax filings. Those individuals either declined to comment or didn’t respond to interview requests.
The Athletic sent emails and left voice messages seeking comment from Christi Holloway, the CFO of the USM Athletic Foundation, and Jeremy McClain, USM’s athletic director, who on 2020 tax filings was listed as the foundation’s CEO. Those requests for comment went unanswered. USM’s communications office also did not respond to interview requests.
Favre and his wife, Deanna, started Favre 4 Hope — initially called the Brett L. Favre Foundation — in 1995, his fourth season as Green Bay’s starting quarterback. The Favres directed the foundation’s money to charities such as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Green Bay and Gulfport, Miss., and Gaits To Success, an equine therapy program in Favre’s hometown of Kiln, Miss.
They raised money by hosting annual events: golf tournaments, dinners and auctions in Green Bay and a celebrity softball game, which drew a crowd of 8,500 fans in Appleton, Wis. in 2005. In the foundation’s first decade, it donated small amounts to a long list of charities. Forty-four organizations received grants in 2007, including 19 for $5,000 or less. Starting in 2009, the list of charities never topped 14 and the size of the donations grew.
Deanna Favre was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. A year later, she launched her own charity, the Deanna Favre Hope Foundation. That year, the Appleton Post-Crescent reported she sold 210,000 pink Packers “G” logo baseball hats to raise over $1 million for breast cancer research.
On Jan.1, 2010, the Favres merged their two charities, creating Favre 4 Hope. Deanna’s foundation, which focused on helping underprivileged or uninsured women get preventative breast cancer screenings, added $632,713 to the collective pot, pushing Favre 4 Hope’s revenue to $1,767,864 in 2010. The mission statement of the joint foundation was amended to add Deanna’s cause, breast cancer patients, and to include Minnesota as an area of focus as Favre played his final two NFL seasons (2009-10) for the Vikings.
From 2001 (the first year that the foundation’s tax forms are publicly available) to 2020, Favre 4 Hope gave $5,492,721 in grants, averaging $274,636 in donations per year.
“One of the things I am most proud of about all the things I have been able to achieve is being able to give away so much money and help so many people with Favre 4 Hope,” Favre told the Associated Press in 2020. “Special Olympics, Cystic Fibrosis, Make-A-Wish Foundation, a big chunk of money to the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, to St. Jude and to Ronald McDonald House.”
In 2014, when his daughter Breleigh was a promising sophomore on the Oak Grove High varsity team, Favre led the charge for a new volleyball facility at the school. At the Oak Grove Booster Club board meeting on Nov. 18, 2014, Favre told the board he had donors lined up to help pay for the facility and that he had spoken to then-USM athletic director Bill McGillis about hosting a college volleyball tournament at the building in 2015. He encouraged board members to seek out additional donors and passed out fundraising brochures.
When the Lamar County School Board passed the $1 million project in 2015, Brett and Deanna Favre were reported to be among the community members sponsoring the facility. Fundraising and donations were funneled through the Oak Grove Boosters Club, designated as the official pass-through vehicle for the project, according to court documents.
The donation of $60,000 to the Oak Grove Booster Club in 2015 was the largest grant Favre 4 Hope made that year. (In 2015, Favre 4 Hope also granted $12,500 to the USM Athletic Foundation). The listed purpose for both grants on Favre 4 Hope tax forms was “education.”
The first phase of the 14,960 square foot volleyball facility at Oak Grove High opened in 2015 and Brett and Deanna’s role in helping make it happen was widely lauded.
“They contacted Mike Rozier, a local builder, and it really grew from there,” Tess Smith, the Lamar County superintendent of education, told the Lamar Times. She added: “I just don’t know if, during my tenure, anyone else will walk in the door and say, ‘We’re going to build a million-dollar building and give it to (the district).’ How often does that happen?”
In 2017, as Breleigh Favre began her college career at USM, Favre began meeting with school officials about building a new volleyball facility there.
According to court filings, Favre eventually connected with Nancy New, a USM alumnus who served on the school’s athletic foundation board from 2014-18, according to tax documents. She also headed up the nonprofit Mississippi Community Education Center, which distributed millions of federal dollars from the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program to local organizations.
Between Nov. 6 and Dec. 5, 2017, New’s nonprofit made two lump-sum payments totaling a combined $5 million to the USM Athletic Foundation, according to the state auditor’s report. That same month, Favre received his first payment – $500,000 – as part of an advertising agreement with the state’s welfare program, Families First, made with the understanding that the funds would go toward the volleyball facility.
“If you were to pay me,” Favre texted New in 2017, according to court documents, “is there anyway (sic) the media can find out where it came from and how much?”
In June 2018, ground broke on the volleyball facility – called “The Wellness Center” – which came with a projected cost of $6 million. That same month, Favre received a second payment from New — $600,000 — as part of the advertising agreement to help fund the project. And after making donations to the USM Athletics Foundation averaging $11,125 the previous four years, Favre’s charity donated $60,000.
Favre was in communication with key officials, according to reporting from Mississippi Today, lobbying New, then-Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant and then-USM President Dr. Rodney Bennett for increased funding and workarounds involving construction costs. Favre even texted Bryant in 2018 suggesting prison labor to help construct lockers for the facility.
By 2019, when Favre 4 Hope donated $46,817 to the USM Athletics Foundation, Favre was also working his contacts at Prevacus, a biotech company in which he was reportedly an early investor, to help advance his construction aim.
“I’ve asked Brett not to do the things he’s doing to seek funding from state agencies and the legislature for the volleyball facility,” Bennett wrote to Bryant in January 2020, according to court filings. “I will see for the ‘umpteenth time’ if we can get him to stand down.
“The bottom line is he personally guaranteed the project, and on his word and handshake we proceeded. It’s time for him to pay up — it really is just that simple.”
“That’s was my thoughts (sic),” Bryant responded. “Maybe he wants the State to pay off his promises. Like all of us I like Brett. He is a legend but he has to understand what a pledge means. I have tried many time(s) to explain that to him.”
A month later, Mississippi state auditor Shad White arrested New and former Mississippi Department of Human Services executive director John Davis, among others, alleging a conspiracy to steal welfare funds. New has pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud charges and to state charges on fraud, bribery and racketeering. Earlier this month, Davis was sentenced to 32 years in state prison after pleading guilty on 20 federal and state charges of conspiracy and fraud.
Favre has talked several times about his foundation and how proud he is of the benefits it has brought others.
“It would be a shame if people who can help don’t help,” he told the AP in 2020. “By no means are we perfect, but we do try to give back.”

There’s Something About Mary (1998)
👬 🤼‍♂️-ing Over a 💁‍♀️
Directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly (aka the Farrelly Brothers), this romantic comedy stars Cameron Diaz as the titular character who attracts the attention of different men played by Ben Stiller, Matt Dillon, Chris Elliot and Lee Evans.
Ben Stiller plays former high school geek Ted. Matt Dillon plays private investigator Pat Healy. Chris Elliott plays Ted’s best friend Dom. Lee Evans plays Tucker/Norm Phipps. W. Earl Brown plays Mary’s intellectually disabled brother Warren. Special appearances include Keith David as Mary’s stepfather and football quarterback Brett Favre as Mary’s former boyfriend.
Ben Stiller brings a genuine sense of lovesickness to the table. He even delivers some laugh-out-loud moments as his character usually has the worst of luck. Matt Dillon’s performance as a sleazy detective is arguably the greatest of all time. Chris Elliott (aka mayor Roland Schitt on Schitt’s Creek) is ridiculously hilarious in every single way. Lee Evans is unbelievably skillful at playing a shrewd man. As for Cameron Diaz, there really is something about her that seems to mirror the admirable quality of her character.
The movie blends physical comedy with pure heart and a touch of gross-out humor. Each of those elements demonstrate the honesty and deception of falling for the same person. Ted is a meek guy who still longs to get together with his dream girl after losing contact with her in the aftermath of a disastrous prom date involving a zipper incident. Pat Healy is hired to follow Mary around, only to be fixated on her to the point where he resorts to lying to impress her. Dom gradually shows his obsessive tendencies in which his face breaks out in blistering hives. Lee Evans’ character is a normal pizza delivery guy who pretends to be disabled and assumes the identity of a British architect named Tucker to get himself closer to Mary. All those men are vying for Mary because of the way she makes them feel about themselves.
The film smartly changes the political correctness of romance into a slapstick version of love without going completely overboard. Instead of trying to reach a mutual agreement, Mary’s suitors instantly sabotage each other and go to extreme lengths to win her over. The infamous “hair gel” scene is an example of Ted falling hook, line and sinker for a harebrained scheme concocted by one of his opponents.
A particular action scene involves Ted fighting a border terrier named Puffy. It starts when Pat and Tucker/Norm team up to ruin Ted’s chances with Mary by feeding the dog some drugs that cause him to go wild. Rest assured, Ben Stiller fights back against a fake dog. The next thing you see afterwards is a crippled mutt in a body cast (again, a fake).
The soundtrack contains a collection of classic hits ranging from the late ‘60s to the ‘90s. The track list includes: “Mary’s Prayer” by Scottish pop band Danny Wilson, “Every Day Should Be a Holiday” by The Dandy Warhols, “This Is the Day” by Ivy, “Is She Really Going Out with Him” by Joe Jackson, “History Repeating” by The Propellerheads featuring Shirley Bassey and “Build Me Up Buttercup” by The Foundations. Singer/guitarist Jonathan Richman is shown breaking the fourth wall in between since he narrates the story through song.
Finally, even though long-lasting crushes and unrequited love are some of life’s complications, it’s better to get to know someone properly than make hasty decisions that could lead to trouble. All in all, if you’re looking for a good dose of some Farrelly goofiness, this is one I highly recommend.

New Post has been published on https://www.packernet.com/blog/2023/03/04/legacy-decisions/
Legacy decisions
The day Ron Wolf traded for a relative unknown named Brett Favre, he poured the cement foundation for his Green Bay Packers legacy. More than signing Reggie White or hiring Mike Holmgren, trading for Brett Favre is the reason Ron Wolf’s name is spelled out on the Lambeau ring of honor.
When Ted Thompson picked Aaron Rodgers, he too burnished his entire legacy as a Packers GM.
Wolf and Thompson both also made many, many ill-advised draft picks, trades and free agent acquisitions. Yet Favre and Rodgers made them both look like geniuses. Never mind all their many other great or less than great decisions.
Love Gutey’s future
Just the same, the 2020 drafting of Jordan Love will write Brian Gutekunst’s Packers legacy. No, it won’t be how he handles the conclusion of Rodgers time in Green Bay, that clock is already nearing midnight. It won’t be any other draft homeruns or busts or trades. It will be Love. Can he play, or not?
Realistically, Love does not need to win a Super Bowl or be a Hall of Famer like Favre and Rodgers. That’s not a fair expectation for Love or Gutekunst. But the path Love’s selection put the franchise on these last 3-years means he must be a top-15 NFL starting quality QB, or better. If he’s not, it will permanently tarnish Gutey’s legacy. In fact, Love will need to show some promise and hope by the end of his first season starting. If he doesn’t, Gutekunst may be looking for a job.
LaFleur Legacy?
The only comparable legacy decision facing Matt LaFleur, he’s already made. Many NFL analysts and commentators assumed Joe Barry would be let go sometime in January after a, well-below expectations, season by the Green Bay defense. LaFleur’s choice to stick with Barry, when more exciting candidates were available, is going to sink or float his future legacy in Green Bay.
Dec 1, 2019; Glendale, AZ, USA; Los Angeles Rams assistant head coach/linebackers coach Joe Barry against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports
I thought an upgrade from Barry was obvious and inevitable. He’s never had a record of success as a defensive coordinator, not in Detroit, Washington or Green Bay. With the Packers, his defenses have flashed in a handful of games. Overall, they’ve underperformed considering the talent Barry’s had to work with.
I think Brian Gutekunst’s legacy will be on a solid footing by this time next year. I’m not sure Matt LaFleur will be the Packers head coach in 2024. Joe Barry and Jordan Love will be writing their legacy chapters in the next 2-years–or less.

Brett Favre’s Most Memorable Stat May Be $8 Million Meant for the Poor
His role in the misappropriation of welfare money has infuriated people in his native Mississippi and prompted some fans to call for his removal from the Hall of Fame.
Tumblr media
Sign up for the Pro Football Digest.  Our analysis of the biggest games, story lines and athletes in the N.F.L.
The website for Brett Favre’s foundation, Favre 4 Hope, describes a mission of the charitable organization that the Hall of Fame quarterback founded in 1995: providing financial aid to groups “that provide services to underserved and disabled children in Mississippi and Wisconsin.”
This stated aim stands in contrast to what Favre has been accused of in his home state: playing a role in the misappropriation of about $8 million in public funds intended for welfare recipients. The state of Mississippi sued 38 people or organizations, including Favre, earlier this year to recoup money it said was fraudulently diverted from a federal antipoverty program known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.
Favre has not been charged with a crime. But the evidence that links him to this scandal has further compromised the standing earned with his football success across a 20-year N.F.L. career, particularly in the state where he has been a favorite son. Text messages released in a court filing earlier this month showed Favre leveraging that status to secure funds for personal pet projects: a biotechnology start-up in which he had invested and a volleyball facility at his alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi, where his daughter played the sport. The texts were first reported on by Mississippi Today.
Favre’s lawyer, Bud Holmes, did not respond to messages seeking comment. He and Favre have said that Favre was not aware that the funds came from a federal welfare program. Two of the people Favre was in touch with have pleaded guilty to fraud charges related to the welfare money: John Davis, who served as executive director of the Mississippi Department of Human Services under Phil Bryant, the state’s former governor, and Nancy New, who led a community education nonprofit that misappropriated funds to Favre and other prominent figures.
As for Favre’s contention that he didn’t realize the source of the funds, it’s not uncommon for individuals to secure grants without knowing exactly where the money is coming from, said Lisa Delpy Neirotti, a professor of sport philanthropy at George Washington University. But, she added: “You probably should have started getting suspicious if they can fund everything from a volleyball stadium to a biotech company. I don’t know what kind of fund he thought this was.”
Court filings describe Favre pushing local leaders, including Davis and New, to fund the construction of the multimillion-dollar volleyball facility at Southern Miss. New’s nonprofit directed $5 million to the school for the project, according to public records, disguised as a lease to get around restrictions on how welfare funds are used. Favre and New also came up with a plan for Favre to receive $1.1 million from the nonprofit, supposedly for promotional appearances, that he would also funnel to the volleyball facility, their text messages show. (A state auditor previously demanded that Favre repay this amount; he still owes the interest.) “If you were to pay me,” Favre texted to New as they discussed this idea in 2017, “is there anyway the media can find out where it came from and how much?”
Text messages between Favre and Bryant, made public by Bryant’s attorney in a court filing late last week, show Favre unsuccessfully pushing for more public funding for Southern Miss athletic facilities in late 2019, even after the then-governor cautioned him that misuse of the welfare grants New had access to could be illegal. In addition to the volleyball facility — toward which Favre said he personally owed money — one message shows Favre lobbying for the construction of an indoor football facility to help recruit Deion Sanders’s son, Shedeur Sanders, a top quarterback, to Southern Miss.
Favre also worked to secure $2.1 million through New’s nonprofit for the biotech start-up, which purports to be developing a drug to treat concussions. This investment also came from public funds for the welfare program and, the state’s lawsuit said, was for the “financial benefit” of Favre and others.
It’s not yet known if Favre will face legal consequences for his role in the misuse of these public funds. But his connection to it has resulted in significant public scrutiny — a kind of scrutiny that Favre has faced before. More than a decade ago, a game-day host for the Jets, Jenn Sterger, accused Favre of sending her lewd and harassing messages while he was a quarterback for the team. (The N.F.L. said it could not establish that Favre sent the photographs to Sterger but fined him $50,000 for failing to cooperate with the investigation.)
Sage Rosenfels, a former N.F.L. quarterback and Favre’s teammate on the Minnesota Vikings, called him out in a Twitter post, writing, “Since retirement, I have been lucky to avoid stealing millions of dollars from the poorest people in my state.” Rich Desrosiers, the chief communications officer for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, said he has fielded about a dozen phone calls from fans about Favre, all asking for him to be removed from the Hall, into which he was inducted in 2016. “There’s no question this has outraged a number of fans,” he said.
Desrosiers said he has told each caller that Favre has not yet been charged with any crime, and that the Hall of Fame bylaws, as they are currently written, don’t allow for the removal of someone once they have been elected. No one has ever been removed, including George Preston Marshall, the demonstrably racist former owner of Washington’s N.F.L. team; O.J. Simpson, who was found responsible in civil court for the murders of his former wife and her friend; and Lawrence Taylor, who in 2011 pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor sex offenses after soliciting an underage girl.
Regardless of what happens to Favre in the formal settings that chronicle his football achievements, there is a number that is perhaps more striking than his streak of 321 consecutive starts: the $8 million meant for poor people that he is accused by the state of pushing to his personal interests, despite having earned more than $140 million in his N.F.L. playing career.
That he did so while running a foundation that, in part, pledged to aid underserved Mississippians seems too cynical to be true. One of the organizations listed as a charity partner of Favre 4 Hope is Hope Haven, which serves children in Mississippi who are victims of sexual abuse and trauma. Hope Haven’s executive director, John James, said the center usually receives a $10,000 donation from Favre’s foundation late in the year. He said he hopes the donations keep coming despite the recent headlines because the funding helps Hope Haven meet the needs of its community.
For smaller organizations especially, $10,000 can go a long way. That puts into scale the extent of the fraud to which Favre has been linked — and how he has chosen to use his power and influence in his home state.

Brett Favre received $1.1m in welfare money for speeches he never gave
Tumblr media
Mississippi's Community Education Center is funded by the MS Department of Human Services's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. It gave $1.1M to football player Brett Favre in lecture fees...for lectures Favre seems never to have given.
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/mississippi-auditor-finds-brett-favre-paid-from-welfare-funds-for-speeches-he-never-gave
The Mississippi State Auditor says the Community Education Center paid Fevre Enterprises $500k in Dec 2017 and $600k in Jun 2018 for speaking fees for three events that Fevre did not attend. Fevre has not been criminally charged in connection with this.
The audit was triggered by a massive embezzlement scandal around John Davis, Director of Dept of Human Services from 2016-19, whom the auditor claims misspent $94m in public funds earmarked for helping the poorest families in America's poorest state.
Davis is also charged for his role in a conspiracy that stole $4m. The auditor calls it, "Mississippi’s largest public corruption case in decades" and adds, "If there was a way to misspend money, it seems DHS leadership or their grantees thought of it and tried it."
Davis made grants of $98m to Mississippi Community Education Center and Family Resource Center of North Mississippi, then directed them to spend the money in ways that benefitted his cronies. The funds were allocated to the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.
In addition to funneling $1.1m to Favre, the Mississippi Community Education Center misspent welfare money on two vehicles, costing $50k and $28k.
The Center also passed $1.3m to Victory Sports Foundation, which was supposed to provide fitness boot camps for poor families. They did not screen attendees to ensure they qualified, and "state legislators and other elected officials took the fitness classes for free."
Favre did not answer the AP's questions about the $1.1m in welfare funds he received from the disgraced nonprofit. "His manager, Bus Cook, told AP on Wednesday: 'We’ve got nothing to say.'"
John Davis was appointed by the former GOP governor Phil Bryant. Bryant's defining achievement was refusing to remove the confederate battle-flag from the state flag and declaring Confederate Heritage Month, and signing an unconstitutional abortion ban into law.
Bryant also favored a sharp expansion of civil asset forfeiture, the discredited rule that allows cops to seize and keep property from people not charged with a crime, with the owners having to prove the negative - "this is not the proceeds of a crime" - to get it back.

Oh look, another Republican grift. (And this guy's involved in it.)
Tumblr media
October 21, 2021
In an audit of the Mississippi Department of Human Services in May 2020, State Auditor Shad White (himself a Republican) discovered $94 million in questionable spending of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds. Turns out, $77 million of it was funneled to Nancy and Zachary New, a couple of wealthy GOP donors who operate a string of private schools as well as several extremely shady non-profits.
The News have given thousands to the campaigns of current Republican Governor Tate Reeves and former Republican Governor Phil Bryant. And by a happy coincidence, Nancy New's private schools have been among the top recipients of public education funds under a voucher program that Reeves, as lieutenant governor and Senate president, helped create and which then-Governor Bryant signed into law.
In July of this year, federal prosecutors indicted the News on charges of conspiring to “fraudulently” obtain more than $4 million of those education funds. Their accountant has already pleaded to her part in the scheme and will testify against them.
Meanwhile, the News continue to be embroiled in the TANF welfare swindle. And they're not the only ones. Trump-supporting Mississippi resident and former NFL luminary Brett Favre (pictured above as the legendary Minnesota Vikings quarterback we all remember) is also caught up in this embezzlement scheme. Seems Favre received $1.1 million in filched funds from two of the New's non-profits. We'll let ESPN provide the distasteful details.
The audit says Favre Enterprises was paid $500,000 in December 2017 and $600,000 in June 2018, and he was supposed to make speeches for at least three events. The auditor's report says that "upon a cursory review of those dates, auditors were able to determine that the individual contracted did not speak nor was he present for those events."
Others who received tainted TANF money include WWE wrestler Ted "The Million Dollar Man" Dibiase ($723K) along with his wrestler sons, Ted Jr. ($3.9 million) and Brett ($226K), plus the Marcus DuPree Foundation ($790K), owned by the former NFL player of the same name.
To date Favre has returned only a fraction of the money he was paid for those speeches he never gave. And while not being criminally charged, he could yet face a civil lawsuit if he fails to pay back the $828,000 still outstanding. It remains unclear whether he knew the money he received was intended to help Mississippi's needy families. But what is certain is that, since his net worth is an estimated $100 million, Favre’s wasn’t one of them.

Fox news LaFleur 'pumped' about Love but loves Rodgers - NFL.com
Tumblr media
Fox news
His overall supervisor, Brian Gutekunst, had comely made the most momentous transfer of the 2020 NFL Draft -- shopping and selling up to carry conclude Utah Bid's Jordan Luxuriate in with the 26th total fetch -- and Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur used to be half of the virtual welcoming committee, putting a name to his original quarterback.
A cramped bit later Thursday night, as Titletown and the leisure of the football universe processed the franchise's grisly selection of a doable heir-obvious-in-waiting to a future first-pollHall of Famer, LaFleur hopped on the phone with QB1.
The 2d-year coach got here away from that dialog contented extra than ever that Rodgers remains "the consummate official." Sitting in the downstairs-bar-speak-turned-makeshift-draft-room, LaFleur (who, take care of the leisure of his NFL counterparts, used to be homebound for the period of this surreal, pandemic- time) then started making ready for the leisure of the draft -- and for a slew of questions regarding the eventual succession opinion.
"Clearly, Aaron Rodgers is the chief of this football crew, and my expectation is that he's going to be for a protracted time," LaFleur told me Friday. "I sincerely love the man, and I take care of working with him, and it is a hell of tons of enjoyable. I'm the truth is concerned regarding the place we can settle this, and that hasn't changed one bit."
What has changed is that LaFleur, coming off a extremely a hit rookie season as an NFL head coach, will now face constant scrutiny as he navigates an already animated offseason.
Ten months in the past, after I wrote about the prospective stylistic clashes between LaFleur's offensive gadget and Rodgers' long-established consolation zone, 'The Audible Thing' became a source of inaccurate handwringing that did now no longer entirely die down unless January. The Packers, after a 13-3 frequent season, gained a condominium playoff clash in opposition to the Seattle Seahawks sooner than suffering a lopsided defeat to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.
If the Audible Thing used to be the identical of snow flurries, the selection of Luxuriate in ranks as a blizzard. Rodgers, 36, understands the whisper successfully. Fifteen years in the past, after an monstrous draft-day freefall, Rodgers used to be rescued by the Packers, with then-overall supervisor Ted Thompson taking the former Cal important particular person 24th total. At the time, Green Bay's incumbent quarterback -- living legend and future first-pollHall of Famer Brett Favre -- used to be 35.
After three as soon as in a while shaded seasons as Favre's backup, Rodgers in the kill became the crew's starter in 2008. He gained a Mountainous Bowl MVP trophy in his third season as a starter and captured the first of two league MVP awards in his fourth, organising himself as one in every of the glorious avid gamers of his era.
Tumblr media
So what does this imply for Rodgers and the Packers in the arriving years? That is still to be viewed. Admire six-time Mountainous Bowl champion Tom Brady, Rodgers has talked about he wishes to play unless he is 45. And in an interview last month with ESPN Wisconsin's Wilde & Tausch, Rodgers insisted he wasn't concerned with the alternative of the Packers drafting a quarterback, pronouncing, "With out reference to who you declare in, they're now no longer going to be in a space to beat me out anytime soon."
Yet, the next time Rodgers experiences to work -- and there would possibly be hundreds of uncertainty on that entrance, as a consequence of the COVID-19 virus -- he'll cease so while being backed up by a major-spherical draft fetch with animated skills.
"I'm pumped about attending to coach this young quarterback," LaFleur talked about of Luxuriate in. "This cramped one has a big gamble to be the truth is factual, and what a supreme whisper for him: He has a big gamble to return here and soak all of it in and learn from one in every of the glorious quarterbacks -- if now no longer the glorious -- of all time. He's a humble cramped one who will settle accountability and take a look at and improve and better. And he's going to no doubt accept as true with a entrance-row seat to greatness."
On condition that the Packers are the rare franchise that has pulled off a transition from one Hall of Standing quarterback to 1 other -- the San Francisco 49ers, with Steve Young succeeding Joe Montana, did it in the old decade -- it is comprehensible that Gutekunst would accept as true with been enticed by the foundation of shopping and selling up four spots (swapping first-spherical choices with the Miami Dolphins and surrendering a fourth-spherical fetch in the strategy) to nab Luxuriate in. Yet the GM did so on the expense of adding a participant who would possibly perhaps even accept as true with helped the crew immediately, in explicit, somebody who would possibly perhaps even accept as true with added some playmaking punch to the Green Bay offense.
Right here is half of a recurring theme. Amazingly, in the 15 years since Rodgers used to be drafted, Luxuriate in is the first ability-space participant the Packers accept as true with taken in the first spherical.
Final March, in his 2d offseason as the Packers' GM, Gutekunst had a stellar birth to free company, signing four affect avid gamers: edge rushers Za'Darius Smith and Preston Smith, safety Adrian Amos and guard Billy Turner. With two picks heading into Friday (one every in the 2d and third rounds) and 6 extra on Saturday, Gutekunst has a big gamble to bolster Green Bay's 2020 roster, and LaFleur remains upbeat regarding the strategy.
"Gutey has an improbable vision for the place we want to dawdle," LaFleur talked about, "and I'm concerned about what we would also very successfully be in a space to assemble this season and beyond. I do know people are going to compare and overanalyze, but Aaron is a consummate official and terrific teammate, and he is our chief, and I take care of teaching him."
And to any extent extra, he'll be teaching Luxuriate in as successfully.

Mike McCarthy liked Cowboys situation more than Daniel Jones
INDIANAPOLIS — Spoiled by Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, former Packers coach Mike McCarthy was excited to coach Daniel Jones.
Instead, they will face each other — maybe for years to come — in one of the NFL’s most-heated rivalries.
An NFL source told The Post that, though McCarthy always favored the Cowboys above other head-coach vacancies this offseason, he thought the “Giants’ job was very good because of Daniel Jones.” McCarthy interviewed with the Giants on Jan. 4, but he left town without an offer and headed to a 12-hour-long sleepover meeting with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
The Cowboys hired McCarthy on Jan. 6.
“I had a great experience with the Giants,” McCarthy said at the NFL combine. “First-class organization and can’t say enough about [co-owner] John Mara and the time I was able to spend there. It was a lot of fun, thought the interaction was good, but it’s a process and things happen for a reason. I’m very blessed to be a Dallas Cowboy.”
Jones hired McCarthy to replace Jason Garrett, who wound up as Giants offensive coordinator under Joe Judge when the NFC East developed its own mini-coaching carousel. Judge has yet to say a Giants player’s name in three mass interviews as a way of showing a blank slate to all, including Jones.
The Giants tried to arrange a second meeting with McCarthy after the Cowboys’ interest became public, a source said, but it was too late.
Mike McCarthyAP
McCarthy spent 2019 out of the NFL, living in the shadows of Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis., after he was fired by the Packers and the Jets chose Adam Gase in their search.
McCarthy and Matt Rhule, who received a seven-year contract and next-level wooing from the Panthers, were considered the Giants’ top candidates until Judge’s Tom Coughlin-like intensity dazzled in his interview.
Though the Giants have the draft capital and salary-cap space (about $74 million) to improve the defense and be a “quick turnaround” with general manager Dave Gettleman’s willingness to hear personnel input, McCarthy saw the Cowboys as “the one where you could win a Super Bowl.” He previously won a Super Bowl with Rodgers and is said not to have been discouraged by Jones’ NFL-high 18 fumbles as a rookie.
Now McCarthy faces an unsettled quarterback situation: Dak Prescott is a free agent, and an inability to strike a long-term contract extension could force the Cowboys to apply the one-year franchise or transition tag and thus create friction.
Dak PrescottAP
McCarthy said Prescott is “definitely” a franchise quarterback. He had “no comment” for speculation six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady could leave the Patriots for the Cowboys in free agency.
“Defenses get you to the championship,” McCarthy said. “The quarterbacks win championships, and I definitely feel Dak is that quarterback.”
Prescott is 6-2 with 17 touchdowns and three interceptions in eight career games against the Giants. The Cowboys haven’t been to an NFC Championship since the 1995 season.
“Number one, you look at what he’s done in his time in the league,” McCarthy said. “I’ve been impressed with him since the first time I saw him live up in Green Bay. He’s gotten off to a great start and built a really good foundation.”
